Where Do your Avocados Come From?
Avocados, which thrive in warm, dry climates around the world, grow in many nations on six of the planet’s seven continents: North, Central and South America, from the USA down through Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, the Caribbean and the Dominican Republic; in Europe, from prolific Spain to smaller producers in Portugal, Greece, and Italy; in Africa from Morocco to Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, and South Africa; and in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, China, the Philippines, and other Pacific islands.
Although they grow best where there is no frost and little wind, avocados are quite adaptable. With so many producers worldwide, avocados are always ready for harvest somewhere so you can enjoy them every day! Top-producing countries include Mexico, the United States, Peru, South Africa, Chile, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic.
