Wonderful Years
Two years older, two years wiser and two years stronger! Fashion is not always the most glamorous of industries it takes an army of talented individuals to accomplish that miracle, although nothing is as amazing as Chanel in the fall. The planning and hard work that goes into each and every issue of Awaken is a testament to the change that is happening in Orlando. We Pride ourselves of pulling the mass majority of editorial work from the neighboring
communities. Providing a platform for the ever evolving talent that resides in Central Florida. We look back upon the past two years with exuberance and pride. The future has never appeared more optimistic than it is right now. The only thing tomorrow guaranties is change. That being said, We thank everyone who has been apart of the journey thus far and wish everyone a Happy and safe Holidays!!!

IMITATION = IRRITATION "good artists copy but great artists steal" - Pablo Picasso
Every Artist has been influenced by what has been done before their time. Weather that be directly or indirectly, exposure to art through people, media or social media is imminent in the society we live in. We are a product of our times and have the benefit to draw upon the past through artists that have walked similar paths. We all borrow, it all has been done before and will be done again. To merely copy is to take an existing interoperation and not run away
with it. To steal is to take something of value and make it yours. To make an artistic element yours, you have to interpret it your way with your own approach and ascetic. This cannot be done by merely copying an idea, then you are simply regurgitating the exact same idea that was previously done. Being inspired by an idea and then working that same idea into your out, is much more beneficial to the creation of art. “good artists copy but great artists steal considered to be one of the most used creative phrases in history. Every artist builds on that which was done before their time. Only the great artists manage to elevate art to new heights.

FATTY TALK Fat talking - the tendency to make negative comments about our bodies -- is a tried-and-true staple of female and fashion culture. Why do we do it? Why the constant conversation about being too “fat”. Maybe it easies our nerves to straight up call ourselves fat to eliminate it out of other people’s mouth! To eliminate the, so called, talking behind our backs. Better yet, maybe all the Fatty Talk helps feed our craving for complements to boost our ego. Either way Fatty Talk is here to stay, in fashion you can never been to skinny.

WHITE WHITE WHITE SPACE
It is no secret we live in a society bombarded with imagery from all sources of media. Fashion more importantly the flashiest and glamorous amongst it all. While being criticized for upholding standards that are “unrealistic” yet time and time again the formula works. Wether you like it or not, fit and thin is in. I mean, can you imagine a Calvin Klien ad without abs? Didn’t think so. How about a Victoria Secret commercial without a sexy long legged strut (clearly the most important aspect of a good bra, the strut). Sex sells and sex just looks better on the thin and fit. And while strides have been made to broaden the standard of what the model image is, truth is, this is fashion. I doubt high end designers even stop to think about, “How will this design look in a size 16?” But then again that probably isn’t their market. while some could say this is the exact issue, designers don’t pay attention to those sizes so then in return that size isn’t shown on the catwalk automatically cutting plus size models out of fashion shows all together. Either way fashion has always been obsessed with the thin and fabulous.
