Barmouth Bay Holiday Park presents
Park Life Stacey Taylor
General Manager It’s been a wonderful year so far at Barmouth Bay. Behind the scenes we’ve been beavering away refurbishing our fantastic pool, just in time for a summer swim! The Sands Complex next door has also recently had a revamp, so if you fancy a change of scenery on your break, pop over there for some delicious food and drinks.
Previous ‘Great Weekend’ events this year have been so much fun and there are some truly exciting events planned in the near future, including the Music Weekender in June. It’s a weekend you wont want to miss, promising a fantastic mix of music and pop up food and drink stalls. Be sure to join us for a dance in the sun at our very own festival by the bay.
As well as events we are delighted to share with you some planned park enhancements, but more on those in this newsletter so I won’t spoil it!! I’m looking forward to welcoming the summer with such a lovely community. Please feel free to pop in for a coffee and a chat, my door is always open.
Down by the river ‘The River Ysgethin is on the northern boundary of the park, and in the past, we’ve contributed to dredging the river periodically to allow the river to flow freely and prevent flooding on the park. We were last authorized to undertake this dredging in 2015, we then approached National Resources Wales to dredge the river than in 2017. Unfortunately for whatever reason permission was withheld. Together with other landowners, we made representation to National Resources Wales and the Snowdonia National Park; these meeting took months to organize and unfortunately we weren’t successful. We then involved the local MP Liz Saville Roberts to lobby on our behalf, and after engaging various consultants to assist with our application to dredge the river, we succeed in getting approval for a permit to

w NeDevelopments Here at Barmouth Bay we are constantly looking at ways we can make the park better for owners and guests alike, so we’d like to announce some exciting new changes. We believe first impressions matter, so we’re upgrading our front entrance to give the park a fresh new feel. With this in mind, we will shortly be introducing some beautiful Welsh slate to the entrance as a homage to the mines we have in the area. Continuing the slate theme, we hope you’ll enjoy
the new ‘Gabion style’ slate furniture and a stylish mobile snack bar, which will also feature a gorgeous thatched roof. Latest updates will be available to see on our Facebook page. Very soon, our play park will benefit from a makeover, especially for our smaller guests. With some fantastic weather approaching we’re keen to get the outside areas to the highest standard, so you and your family can relax and truly concentrate on what’s important during your time away.
dredge the river in a very limited way a couple of months ago. The permit we have is very limited in scope and only allows us to carry out very limited works. Working with National Resources Wales and the Snowdonia National Park to work on land we don’t own has proved very difficult. Both bodies have different aims, and both have different departments who are ultimately able to assist with this type of query. The dredging will not resolve the situation; it will reduce the frequency and severity of flooding events. Given this, we have engaged consultants to work on a scheme that will resolve the situation in total. The Flood Risk and Resilience Manager (who knew there was such a job title!) have engaged surveyors and flood risk analysts and flood prevention experts to arrive at a scheme that
we can put forward to the Planning Authority, but only once we have negotiated any proposal with National Resources Wales & The Snowdonia National Park Authority. Working three rather than two regulatory bodies will add another level of complexity, but we are committed to resolving this issue. It is envisaged that we will be able to apply for a plan whatever shape that takes in the late summer.
Once we have the various consents, we will undertake the work as soon as we are permitted to. The processes to get a resolution will to be slow, and if we get any feedback as the process progresses, we will keep our holiday home owners appraised.’ We are thrilled to be able to give the park a much needed upgrade and we hope to see you soon once it’s all complete!

In 1989, Ray Oldenburg published a book about civil society, democracy and civil engagement. Oldenburg suggests that for a healthy existence, citizens must live in a balance of three realms: home life which is the first place, the workplace which is the second, and the inclusively sociable places which are the third. You’re probably wondering what has this got to do with Away Resorts? Well, we have an exciting new brand coming soon for all our lovely owners, The Third Place Social, showcasing never before seen owners events plus much more!
We believe that The Third Place are the anchors of the community and facilitate more creative interaction between each other. A neutral ground where you are free to come and go as you please, no importance of status in society, witty conversation and frivolous banter are not only common, but highly valued but also having the same feelings of warmth, possession and belonging as they would in their own homes. We want to make Away Resorts be the ‘third place’ in your life – A place to relax, a place with familiar faces & a place for new friends.
