The AMA – Answering the Call to Love and ServeÂ
To be an AMA volunteer is to respond with a resounding YES! to a year in mission - a year filled with loving and serving some of the poorest communities in the Philippines. Since 1986, the Associate Missionaries of Assumption has been sending young professionals as missionaries to schools, parishes, urban and rural poor communities, NGOs, centers for the disabled, orphanages and street children’s homes. They work as teachers, community organizers, campus ministers, counsellors, health workers to name a few. As volunteers, they commit to one year of living a life of simplicity to be in solidarity with the people they serve, deepening their compassion as they enter more fully into a reality that is different than their own.
They live in community with fellow volunteers and practice a prayer life that is at the center of the volunteer experience. During the year, the volunteers are guided by both lay formators and sisters of the Religious of the Assumption who accompany them in the deepening of their faith and in their journey of self discovery. The AMA volunteers take part in spreading the charism of St. Marie Eugenie, foundress of the Religious of the Assumption whose vision of a transformed society rooted in the love of Jesus and Mary is evident in the simple message that to love is to serve! AMAs are welcomed with joy in these mission areas as they reach out to underserved communities of society. AMA Philippines accepts local as well as foreign volunteers. A short-term volunteer program is also available.
