THE SHALLOWS WEBSITE PROPOSAL
PROJECT STATEMENT Background: The website will be designed to promote Nicholas Carr’s “The Shallows — What The Internet Is Doing To Our Brains” for the purpose of garnering interest and book sales. Target Audience: Educators, Tech & IT crowd, Physicians Creative Considerations: Built to 1366px by 768px dimensions. Implement HTML5 parallax scrolling for an in-depth user experience.
Concept Statement: Effectively promote Nicholas Carr’s passion for media and values on new technologies shown in his writing “The Shallows — What The Internet Is Doing To Our Brains.” Simplicity and clarity of the site’s layout will retain the power of the publication. Interactive elements will highlight user interest. Navigation will be simple, creating effortless transitions and visual instruction from page to page. Colors should play secondary to content, used to direct navigation of the site, highlight important material, and keep the brand aesthetic of the book. The site should be simple, keeping to the point of promoting Carr’s “The Shallows” but interesting enough to keep the users attention. Deliverables: Animated GIF presenting all aspects of the project. Dimensions and time of GIF may vary due to memory constraints for web presentation.

PROJECT STATEMENT Background: The Turkey Bowl is a football-based event that occurs locally to Bainbridge Island, WA. The Turkey Bowl business identity system will be used annually to promote the Turkey Bowl and awareness toward local charities. Target Audience: Families, Sport Enthusiasts Creative Considerations: Low budget considering non-profit. Create awareness for helpline house and other local charities. Promote a familyfriendly and inviting aesthetic.
Concept Statement: Capably promote Turkey Bowl 2014 and local charities though business identity, business cards, posters, and T-shirts. Fun and playful design will attract a younger demographic while simplicity and cleanliness will attract an older demographic. The use of color will be tasteful and minimal to reduce costs and improve legibility. PROJECT STATEMENT Background: The Fashion League is a business hosted by The Art Institutes around the nation designed to promote the fashion department, students, and their work. Target Audience: Professional Fashion Designers, Employers Creative Considerations: Graphics should be simple and clean to allow the fashion designs to take the stage. Consider current fashion trends like Vogue magazine and Fashion magazine.
Concept Statement: Successfully establish a brand identity for the Fashion League that speaks professionally toward possible employers and the general public. Simple, clean, and tasteful graphics will allow the fashion to take the spotlight, therefore, promoting students and their work. Collateral like posters, postcards, and handbills will use photography to attract quick attention from the viewer. Creative Considerations: Express professionalism and quality using large budget. Respect existing brand and branch off of said brand effectively and efficiently.
PROJECT STATEMENT Background: The mailer will be designed to promote Storyville Coffee and awareness toward non-profits standing against varying forms of violent oppression. The mailer will be sent to local non-existent subscribers and existing subscribers to Storyville. Use of collateral (punch card) will raise money for International Justice Mission. Target Audience: Coffee Connoisseurs, Upper/Middle Class Demographic
Concept Statement: Effectively promote Storyville Coffee and their fight against slavery, trafficking, and other forms of violent oppression. The designs will reflect and retain existing brand elements to create unity. Designed collateral will contain information to educate the target audience about Storyville, their standings, and how they prepare their coffee. The mailer will contain realistic and applicable collateral to ensure participation of the target audience. Deliverables: Mailer containing coffee press instructions, opening letter, punch card, 3 coasters, and Storyville’s premium coffee beans (1 cup).

PROJECT STATEMENT Background: The Adventures of Pete & Mike is a future Van Winkle Studio iPad application expected to launch early 2015. Being under the interactive books and games categories, the app is perfect for kids and parents. Target Audience: Families, Kids Ages 6-12, Parents Creative Considerations: Use YouTube as advertising platform and incorporate brand aesthetics in each clip. Promote a different part of the story for each clip.
Concept Statement: Preemptively establish awareness for the interactive book before the release date to increase sales. Each clip should represent a different aspect of the interactive book including activities, animations, and process. The clips should be short but sweet in order to retain viewer interest. Advertisement for this product will also attract attention toward previous Van Winkle Studio products. Deliverables: 5 published YouTube videos
