ABOUT THE COMPOSER S. W. Oliphant Chuckerbutty, Mus B (London), FRCO, born 6 October 1884, died 5 September 1960. Oliphant Chickerbutty was Organist and Choirmaster of Holy Trinity, Paddington, from 1909 until 1948. Then he completed eight yers at St. mary Oatlands, Weybridge, finally retiring, owing to ill health, in 1956. We was well known as a composer, particularly of the better sort of light music for orchestra. He was also one of the earliest theatre organists, and in the days when he played the Aeolian Organ in the CafĂŠ Royal made numerous recordings. In the early 1930s he made Holy Trinity a musical centre, with frequent performances of oratorios and modern works for choir and orchestra. He, and famous organists, gave regular recitals on the fine Norman & Beard organ that contained in interesting novelty designed by Chuckerbutty himself: the blaqck notes on the pedals had the raised part both forward and backward: one could thus heel as well as toe these notes. --The Musical Times Vol. 101, No. 1413 (Nov. 1960, p. 715)
