WHAT AM I LIKE?
I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER...
During the summer break, I interned for Lewis and Leigh PR, a young boutique based PR agency in Brick Lane; helping to promote new, young and upcoming designers. I worked alongside the managing director, senior press officer and showroom manager and as a team we delegated tasks between each other and got things done a lot quicker whilst enjoying ourselves. I chose to apply for this internship as I am fascinated by the PR and events industry and this is where my career aspirations fundamentally lie. Over the summer I learnt a variety of different skills to do with the PR industry as I was able to learn about every different aspect involved. I assisted with meetings for new clients, helped with call ins and returns, organised events, communicated with stylists and magazines, and learnt how to write press releases. One of my favourite experiences was helping with the OFF STRAND event and pop up store. The event was put on my Pitchouguina, a designer that was a client of Lewis and Leigh. The pop up store was a great success and I was also able to go to the press preview event. Another event that I was able to help out with was the showrooms for London Fashion Week, with one of my favourite designers being Christian Cowan-Sanluis.
BUSINESS CARD INSPIRATION I spent quite a few seminars and sessions in the library and at home trying to get inspiration for my business card idea. As quite a minimalist person, I already knew that I wanted to stick to a colour scheme of black and white and that if any shapes were going to be used they would have to be simplistic. I decided to compile a selection of some of my favourite Pinterest finds that helped me to get inspired for this project.

I am currently studying an undergraduate course in Fashion Communication and Promotion at Nottingham Trent University. I am extremely interested in the social media intern position at Lewis and Leigh as I have a strong social media presence and believe that in this role I could work well within the company. I would love the opportunity to be able to spend valuable time gaining further insight into the fashion industry in this way, whilst gaining more hands on experience. The degree that I am studying covers a variety of different roles within fashion from styling, journalism and visual merchandising to PR and events – which is the area I am extremely interested in. Lewis and Leigh would be a good platform for me to gain work experience as it is the area where my careers aspirations are fundamentally based. I would relish the opportunity to represent the company, to be part of a dedicated, hardworking fashion forward team and to be able to work with and represent the best emerging talents in fashion. Living in London and moving up to Nottingham, I have been exposed to a variety of fashion tribes and styles and if I were able to obtain work experience at Lewis and Leigh I believe that it would open my eyes to a great deal more and that is what excites me about this company. I believe that I am most appropriate for this role as I can bring a very strong work ethic as well as a friendly, enthusiastic attitude to the workplace. I enjoy mastering new skills as well as interacting with new people and put all my skills and effort in place when working within a team. I am able to follow a brief yet also use my own initiative and individuality where permitted when working on different projects which is an area that I excel in. I am extremely familiar with a wide range of different social media and have been for a long time which is why I believe I would be very suitable in this role. I bring passion and enthusiasm to everything I do which I why I think this position would be right for me. I look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Aysen Miller

VISUAL MERCHANDISING
For this brief we had to work in groups to come up with a new creative concept for a brsnd that needed a visual merchandising solution. The brand that we ended up with was All Saints. Using our research from London and our creative knowledge we had to curate design outcomes that would be relevant to the brand. One of our main inspirations for these moodboards was Surrealism, as it was a topic we had been researching as a team for quite a while. We found that it fit in quite well with the brief as we were pushing the boundaries of the design challenges, and whilst still keeping All Saints’ brand essence, we were able to provide a fresh and innovative visual merchandising solution.

The concept of beauty and the perfect body image is something that we challenge in our society everyday. Normal body ideals are often scrutinised by the media leading to a miscommunication and breakdown in what ‘beauty’ actually is. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” but due to certain social and cultural contexts, these ideas are often distorted. The human form may be seen one way, yet interpreted in another. Often people are always trying to be what they are not to fit in with modern day society’s perception of beauty and this is what I have tried to capture through this image. There is no need to change. Everyone is beautiful.

“Inspiration doesn’t have to come from artists and designers, it begins when you’re a child.” Lord Whitney is an art direction company started by Amy Lord and Rebecca Whitney, who graduated from a Graphic Design course in 2006. During their workshop our brief required us to take inspiration from a household object and create a short film that conveys the sense of the object but has a completely different visual output.
