REDISCOVER THE MEANING AND PURPOSE OF WORSHIP, FAMOUS PREACHER TELLS MUSLIMS AT THE RAMADAN FORUM LECTURE Jeddah-based speaker Wajdi Akkari urges Muslims to make this Ramadan the beginning of their spiritual journey towards ‘Paradise’ By Qadeer Ahmad Siddiqui Dubai UAE: he 13th annual Ramadan Forum hosted an insightful lecture in English, presented by prominent Islamic speaker Wajdi Akkari, who enthralled the audience on Sunday evening with an elaborate depiction of the Islamic conception of eternal ‘Paradise’. He offered an
T
incisive, thought-provoking analysis on the worthlessness of acts of worship that are devoid of a spiritual underpinning or lack a sufficient understanding of the purpose of worship.A wellknown speaker on Islamic subjects, Jeddah-based Akkari presented a talk on the topic, ‘The Permanent Abode’, at Zabeel Hall at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).We often get consumed in the act of worship, to the point where we forget the purpose of worship. An act of worship is essentially a spiritual journey towards ‘Jannah’; it must not be allowed to become a perfunctory or mechanical exercise devoid of meaning or purpose. For, every time you pray, every time you fast, every time you mention Allah - truthfully and from your heart - you are effectively taking a step towards eternal ‘Paradise’,” Akkari said during the course of his lecture. He continued,When was the last time you looked forward to seeing Allah on the Day of Judgment? Today most of us are preoccupied with worldly pursuits, and are constantly influenced by the glamor and the distractions around us. It is time we reprioritized our life; we must reset our objectives and make this Ramadan the beginning of our journey towards Allah. Remember, those who fail to adhere to observe the obligatory duties of ‘Sunnah’, technically relinquish their right to enter ‘Paradise’.” During his hour-long lecture, Akkari gave a fascinating account of ‘Jannah’ or ‘Paradise’ as represented in the Noble Qur’an, emphasizing how the eternal Home is a place devoid of hard feelings such as resentment or anger or
envy, and where people who once enter will live forever and never perish. The vastness of ‘Jannah’ is such that to compare it with the world we now inhabit is like dipping your finger in the ocean. The water on your fingertip is the world we live in, while ‘Jannah’ is the limitless ocean that stretches out there, Akkari said. Before the lecture commenced, 9-year-old

TRIPP LITE: GUIDE TO INTELLIGENT MANAGEMENT OF A DATA CENTRE Data centres are at the heart of the Middle East’s $3.5-billion IT infrastructure spending By Qadeer Ahmad Siddiqui Dubai UAE: ata centres remain an integral part of many industries' success stories in today’s digitally on-demand world. Not only do they help organisations reduce IT infrastructure and operational costs, they also add business value to companies by ensuring that mission critical data is protected and accessible 24/7.In the Middle East and Africa, IT infrastructure spending – comprising storage, server and enterprise networking equipment – is expected to reach $3.5 billion in 2014, largely driven by data centre modernisation efforts and new data centre construction by local and international companies, according to Gartner. In order to run a data centre efficiently and maximise its full potential, an effective infrastructure management policy and ecosystem must be put in place. For companies seeking to set up their own data centre or existing data centres looking to evaluate their operations, a few guidelines must be considered. Each data centre has its own technical requirements and contacting a reliable ICT service provider to analyse the scope of the data centre’s needs would be a good first step. It is also crucial to assess the infrastructure that will be installed in the data centre. Make a detailed list of the equipment and technology that will be acquired and cross reference that against those of the ICT service provider. The following concerns must also be considered when designing a data centre:Cooling Requirements – This will largely depend on the equipment supplied for the data centre. To determine this, check the BTU Ratings (heat emission) on the datasheet of each piece of equipment as this will provide the capacity of cooling needed in the data centre. A small facility, for example, may require a contained cooling system or a wall mounted cooling unit, depending on the dimensions of the data centre or the amount of cooling required. When a contained cooling system is built, blanking panels can assist with the blocking of the air, whether it is cold or hot. Other options may include in-row cooling units, which provide localised, more focused cooling for the rows of server cabinets that fill the data centre. Additionally, premium rack enclosures, advanced cooling, cable management a n d p o w e r
D
distribution/monitoring features can also be used to keep critical servers as well as network and telecom equipment running seamlessly and c o n t i n u o u s l y. P o w e r Backup Requirements – Calculate the total power consumption of all of the equipment to be installed in the data centre by referring to the devices’ datasheets. This will give you an idea of the ideal UPS for your data centre in the event of a power glitch. Ensure, however, that the UPS has at least 20% extra power to accommodate a growing data centre’s future capacity needs. Redundancy or Fail-Safe Mechanism There is a need for redundancy for purposes of backing up power, particularly in the case of mission-critical servers which must not shut down. In larger data centre environments, however, cooling might also need to have redundant systems for heat-sensitive servers. Scalability When planning a data centre, always allow for future growth. This involves flexible allocation for power backups, cooling systems and failover hosting. Power Distribution– Determine how many power outlets are required per server rack and install the PDU most suitable for the application. Ensure that the PDU is manageable and accessible remotely. More advanced PDUs can shut down per port and if you know which server is connected to which port, a remote shutdown can be performed and rebooted off-site. For multi-user data centres, the most advanced PDUs can m o n i t o r p o w e r consumption per port and billing is determined by the power consumption of specific ports. Multiple Servers – Using a KVM (Keyboard Video Mouse) switch will allow data centre managers to control multiple servers with a single console, minimising clutter on server racks. Most of the latest KVM switches have built-in KVM over IP technology which allows for secure, remote access to servers from outside the data centre. Not all data centres are created equally, which is why it is important for data centre managers to assess their facilities’ unique requirements and capabilities so that efficiency and reliability can be guaranteed at all times. the theme, ‘If the Label Shows Your Intent, Wear It’.For the next hour and more, the crowd listened with rapt attention as Dr. Naik addressed some of the fundamental issues facing today’s Muslims, including the critical question of identity and belonging and the persistent labeling of Muslims in the presentday world, before making a compelling case that a true Muslim must not only strive to preserve his religious identity but wear his faith proudly. If you are proud to be a Muslim, you should look like a Muslim. You don’t have to hide your Muslim identity by trying to look or dress in a manner that makes your religious identity indistinguishable only in order to blend into society,” Dr. Naik said. “It is the duty of each Muslim to be recognizable to his fellow brothers and sisters in Islam. At the end of the hard-hitting lecture, the audience which included a sizeable segment of nonMuslims erupted in rapturous applause; the lecture was followed by an engaging question and answer session which went on for more than an hour and a half. 7 non-Muslims embrace Islam:During the question and answer session, 7 non-Muslims among the audience – 3 from India, 3 from the Philippines and 1 from Cameroon expressed their desire to embrace Islam, inspired by Dr. Naik’s convincing, logic-based response to their queries. Moderation’, the two scholars of Islam highlighted that one of the major reasons behind the division of the Muslim community into several different groups is that followers do not quite embrace all the teachings of Islam in entirety. Sheikh Dr. Wasilluah Abbas, Mufti of Masjid Al Haram in Makkah, also pointed out that in the recent times many Muslims are introducing new elements into their monotheistic Islamic practices, which in his opinion is a sinful act. He also called upon the
audience to continue participating in events such as the Ramadan Forum, w h e r e they get t h e opportunit y t o expand a n d strengthe n their understan ding of the religion as a whole. Shedding light on the various social evils that have gripped the Muslim society in a negative way, he requested all the believers to cultivate a deeper understanding of the religion to avoid getting influenced by others.During his lecture, Sheikh Dr. Wasilluah Abbas also explained the different phases of Islam since its advent and also warned the audience of the conspiracies that others have devised to divide Islam. He emphasized that the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) are the only

Sheikh Zafar Ul-Hasan said that practicing Islam on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the only way of real success. “Whatever and whichever we were told by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the only solution to be on the right path. If we start adopting new things in religion than it will cause more harm rather than peace,he said.Noble Quran and Islam are here to teach us the moderation not only in Islam but in our whole life and it is the only thing which will keep Muslim Ummah on the right path, he added. At the ‘Preacher of the Nation’ competition, Yaseen Kahlan from Iraq presented a sermon in Arabic titled, ‘Honoring the Parents’.The 13th edition of the Ramadan Forum is set to host another upcoming lecture in English, which will be presented by Wajdi Akkari on July 13that the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), titled, ‘The Permanent Abode’.During the Ramadan Forum, non-

JADWA SEES STRONG INVESTMENT PROSPECTS FOR KSA’S EMERGING HEALTHCARE SECTOR • KSA witnessed one of the highest population growth in the MENA historically and is expected to continue to grow at around 3% annually • Although the number of private healthcare providers has increased significantly, they still represent just a third of total hospitals in KSA • 12x oversubscription of Al Hammadi IPO demonstrates investors’ confidence and high appetite for healthcare investments By Qadeer Ahmad Siddiqui Dubai UAE: Jadwa Investment (“Jadwa”), a leading Saudi private equity firm and investment bank with headquarters in Riyadh, said that it expects significant growth in the emerging Saudi healthcare sector; driven by a rapidly increasing population of approximately 3% annually with beds capacity of only 21 beds per 10,000 population.Head of Private Equity and Investment Banking at Jadwa Investment, Saad Al-Saif, noted that there were strong signs of investor confidence in the growth potential of the Saudi healthcare sector. The oversubscription of 12x for the IPO of Al Hammadi Company for Development and Investment (“Al Hammadi ” or the “Company”),
which owns and operates Al Hammadi Hospital in Riyadh and was successfully listed on the Saudi Stock Exchange (“Tadawul”) on Tuesday , is evidence of investors’ healthy appetite for well-positioned businesses,he said.Commenting on the healthcare sector in Saudi Arabia, Al-Saif highlighted a significant hospital bed capacity shortfall in the years ahead despite increased investment in hospitals in the Kingdom. He said “With continued government support, the role of private healthcare services providers in Saudi Arabia has significantly increased. Over the last five years the growth in bed capacity for private sector was 7% which is considerably higher compared to the growth in public sector bed
capacity addition s of 3%. Howeve r , private hospital s form only a third of the total hospital s and less than a quarter of the number of beds. This shows that there is a significant opportunity to invest in expanding the capacity of the sector and recruiting competent medical professionals, in order to support the increasing demand for healthcare services alongside the country’s population growth. In December 2012, Jadwa Healthcare Opportunities Fund

JADEJA FOUND GUILTY OF LEVEL 1 BREACH OF ICC CODE OF CONDUCT By Qadeer Ahmad Siddiqui Dubai UAE: ndia’s Ravindra Jadeja has been found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Code for Players and Player Support Personnel for his involvement in an incident with James Anderson during the second day of the first cricket Test against England at Trent Bridge on 10 July.Jadeja was fined 50 per cent of his match fee by David Boon of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees, who found him not guilty of the offence which he was originally charged with, but found him guilty under Article 2.1.8, that relates to ‘conduct contrary to the spirit of the game’.Jadeja was reported for a breach of Article 2.2.11 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel by England team manager Phil Neale on 16 July for his alleged altercation with Anderson after they had left

the field for lunch.Under the Code, Mr Boon held a hearing in Southampton on Thursdayevening, which was attended by both the players, their legal counsels, witnesses as well as BCCI’s MV Sridhar, Phil Neale and Paul Downton of the ECB, and the ICC’s Ethics & Regulatory Lawyer. The hearing lasted nearly 150 minutes before Mr Boon and included oral statements by the players, video footage and crossexamination of the witnesses by Kendrah Potts, counsel representing the ECB, and Jonathan Ellis, who represented Jadeja.Under article 7.6.5 of the Code, Mr Boon was empowered to find Jadeja guilty of an offence of a lower level than that with which he was charged if he found him not guilty of the o r i g i n a l offence.Commenting on his decision, Mr Boon said: “Under Article 6.1 of the Code, I had to be
comfortably satisfied that the offence had occurred in order to find Mr Jadeja guilty of an offence under Article 2.2.11.While I was in no doubt that confrontation did occur, and that such conduct was not in the spirit of the game and should not have taken place, I was not comfortably satisfied that this was a level 2 offence. Therefore, in exercising my discretion under Article 7.6.5 of the Code and having heard all the evidence, I was comfortably satisfied that Mr Jadeja had committed a level 1 offence under Article 2.1.8 of the Code.Mr Boon will provide his detailed judgement within the next 48 hours. All Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee.In accordance with Article 8.1 of the Code, a decision in respect of a first Level 1 offence is nonappealable and shall
remain the full and final decision in relation to the matter.Meanwhile, the hearing of Anderson will be held on Friday 1 August and will be conducted by the Judicial Commissioner, His Honour Gordon Lewis AM.Anderson has been charged by India manager Sunil Dev under Level 3, Article 2.3.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which states: “Where the facts of the alleged incident are not adequately or clearly covered by any of the above offences, conduct that either: (a) is contrary to the spirit of the game; or (b) brings the game into disrepute. All Level 3 breaches carry a penalty of between four and eight Suspension Points. Two suspension points equates to a ban of one Test, or two ODIs, depending on which type of match is scheduled next for the suspended player.

EVER CONSISTENT Y.D KIM WINS THE 5TH CENTRO SHARJAH RAMADAN OPEN By Qadeer Ahmad Siddiqui Dubai UAE: orean Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club member Mr. Young Duk Kim once again outlined his gritty and determined character as he became the 5th ever Centro Sharjah Ramadan Open Golf Champion on Friday 11th July. Mr. Y.D
K
Kim who always seems to hold his nerve during the larger open events produced nines of 16 & 20 for a level par round of 36 points, managing to just pip Dubai Creek youngster Dhruv Nair via a scorecard count back, the pivotal point in his round coming over Kim’s final 6 holes with a very solid 4 pars, 1 birdie and 1 bogey jotted down to finish extremely calmly.Nair was disappointed to lose out but had once again played incredibly well at his favored SGSC course, after also performing superbly in his previous outing being the Junior Open at the start of the year. Nair still managed to pick up the prize for the Division 1 golfers on the day, and will surely be a name to watch out for in the future as he matures from his tender age of 14.Winning the Division 2 for the golfers who had a handicap index of 9.0 and above was Emirates Golf Federation member Mr. Simon Sinclair who posted a finishing score of 35 points. Sinclair sat patiently as the scores started slowly
drifting in and in the end managed to win the division by a clear 2 points from Noel Connolly of the Al Badia Golf Club. With 10 golfers in the field all playing from Course Handicaps of 5 and below the Gross Division was going to be extremely competitive and very close. In the end SGSC English
member John Gould took home the bragging rights over his scratch team counterparts as he edged home with 32 gross stableford points. C o n n e e l y, R o b s o n , Sephton and Liu were all left to ponder over bad decisions out on the course as they all fell within two points of Gould’s winning total. The day’s final award went to Mrs. Jiwon Bae of The Montgomery Dubai as she picked up the winning prize in the Ladies Division with a 32 points tally, winning by just 3 points from her playing partner and SGSC Lady Captain Mrs. Susie Cottam.Head Golf Professional Ben Derbyshire was delighted to be joined by Business Development Executive Miss. Natalia Pogoza from Centro Sharjah for the presentation as she also distributed fantastic night’s stays for the top 3 golfers inclusive of breakfast and lunch at the ever popular Centro Sharjah Hotel ideally located next to Sharjah International Airport.

D a n u b e ’s v i c t o r y margin was 32 runs and, in truth, it was a match the defending champion had in the bag from early on thanks to a superb effort with the ball and in the field. The victory ensured Danube went through the entire tournament unbeaten – a total of 10 matches and the side collected the winning prize of AED7000 from ICC Academy Head Coach M u d a s s a r N a z a r, the former Pakistan allrounder. For DBMSC Steel it was a case of what might have been. The steel men had run Danube close in the Super Six stage of the competition, losing by just one run, but the ruthlessness of Danube on Grand Final night meant there was never a possibility of a repeat of that thrilling contest. It left DBMSC with the consolation of the runnerup prize of AED2000 and the knowledge that its players had lost out to a worthy champion.Danube restricted its opponents to such an extent that at the halfway stage of the first innings of the match, DBMSC had a total of minus two runs. Each match is 12 overs per side and sees eight players batting in pairs for three overs each, with five runs deducted every time a wicket falls. In the face of that sort of start, it was always going to be a massive uphill task for
Danube.Sure enough, the Lions eased to victory, totaling 45, with a final flourish from Mendis and Isuru yielding 20 runs in the last three overs of the match. All Danube’s players were at the top of their game on the night and each of the eight men on duty took at least one wicket with the ball, but the player of the match award went to Kamal, who took two wickets at a miserly cost of minus one run.Kamal was also player of the tournament for his outstanding all-round contribution to his side’s success, with runs, wickets and high-quality fielding.Reflecting on both the Grand Final and the Ramadan Indoor Cricket Tournament as a whole, Mudassar Nazar said: “Congratulations to Danube Lions, whose players are worthy champions. To go through a tournament as intense as this, against some excellent sides, and remain unbeaten, is an exceptional achievement and the Lions are once again deserving champions. The Danube players have set the bar high for the other sides in indoor cricket here at the ICC Academy and it is up to those other sides to lift their s t a n d a r d s accordingly. There were signs that is happening and DBMSC Steel were unlucky to once again run into an opponent at the top of its game.Overall, the quality of this year ’s Ramadan Indoor Cricket Tournament marks it down as one of the best we have ever staged here at the ICC Academy and on that basis we look forward to doing it all again soon.ICC Academy Manager Will Kitchen said: “There is no doubt the Ramadan Indoor Cricket Tournament has been an outstanding success this year and for that we have to thank everyone, not least the teams and their supporters for making it such a special occasion. Thanks too, to our partners, who help make this happen – our media partners Sport360 and Radio 4, and Crystal G a l l e r y, o u r t r o p h y partner. Also, enormous credit must go to the staff at the ICC Academy and the officials – the umpires and scorers without whom there would be no tournament in the first place. It has been an outstanding three weeks of cricket action here at the ICC Academy and the tournament as a whole really has been a terrific
class facilities with matches taking place in the largest and best permanent indoor cricket facility in the country, a facility that is used regularly by many of the world’s top players. This tournament is a highlight of our indoor calendar and with every team guaranteed a minimum of three matches, the Super Six sides getting at least eight matches and the Grand Final teams 10 each, there is no question the players got full value from the action. When the lights are on and the spectators are cheering and shouting here at the ICC Academy, the atmosphere really is fantastic and there can be few better places to be if you love the game of cricket. This tournament really has been indoor cricket at its very best. The action in the Ramadan Indoor Cricket Tournament began on 30 June with 24 teams divided into six pools of four and with every team guaranteed a minimum of three matches. The winners of each pool went forward to a Super Six stage, followed by the two semifinal matches and then the Grand Final. All 54 matches took place at Dubai Sports C i t y, i n t h e l a r g e s t permanent indoor cricket facility in the country. The six pools were made up as follows (with the sides that qualified for the Super Six stage in bold): A – Danube Lions, Sport360, Mumbai Kars, Warriors B – DBMSC Steel, Carfare, Park 11, Satwa Prince C – Oxford Marine, Darjeeling, Petrofac, SGS D – SFS, Khyber Oil, IMG Group, NBF E – Radio 4, Crystal Gallery, Trisl Properties, OMD F – Charterhouse, DSC, HSBC, NBQ In the semi-finals Danube Lions beat Oxford Marine and DBMSC Steel overcame SFS. Dubai Sports City General Manager – Sports Business Mr Maqbul Dudhia added: “Dubai Sports City is proud to have once again hosted the Ramadan Indoor Cricket Tournament at the ICC Academy and it has once again delivered outstanding and top-class action. It brought together many of the best indoor cricketers in this country and with the air-conditioned comfort of the arena things never got too hot for comfort, whatever the temperatures outside. The tournament
took place in an arena used frequently by some of the world’s top players. As some examples, in the recent past we have seen the national squads of Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka, as well as teams from the Pepsi Indian Premier League, all take advantage of what it has to offer. But the beauty of the ICC Academy is that those same world-class facilities are also available to anyone and everyone that wishes to use them, and this tournament has been the perfect illustration of that fact. And the fact the tournament has taken place in the height of summer is another illustration that, at Dubai Sports City, we offer the best in sport all the year round. We have not only the ICC Academy but also the Indoor Dome, which is the home of football at Dubai Sports City, featuring our excellent Socatots and Spanish Soccer Schools programmes overseen by former Real Madrid and Spain legend Michel Salgado and Head Coach Inaki Beni. And with our swimming academy and fitness suite set to open at the end of the summer, with The Els Club and the Butch Harmon School of Golf proving hugely popular, and with transport links including the Hessa Street extension and a regular bus service, the F29 from the Mall of the Emirates, meaning we are more accessible than ever, things just keep getting better and better at Dubai S p o r t s C i t y. T h e I C C Academy can be followed via Facebook and Twitter at www.facebook.com/ICCAc a d e m y a n d a t @ICCAcademy. Mr Kitchen added the tournament really is the tip of the iceberg in terms of what the ICC Academy offers. We have junior coaching from Cricket Cubs, which starts for children of walking age, right through to under-18 level, and we have our summer camps too,” he said.We have expanded our coaching programmes this year to include off-site activities with GEMS schools across Dubai, something that has proved hugely successful, and our junior squads have toured Kenya and Nepal over the past year. We have just hosted a massive season of outdoor action including matches in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers, the ICC Under19 Cricket World Cup and the Asian Cricket Council Under-19 Cup, plus practice for Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka’s senior men’s teams and squads taking part in the Pepsi Indian Premier League. We also hosted a pre-tournament camp for five of the six Associate sides that took part in the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh as well as the series between Pakistan and England’s physical disability teams, the second time we have had them as our guests in what were ground-breaking matches. It may be hot outside but thanks to our superb indoor and outdoor facilities we can offer action to all agegroups 365 days a year,” he added.
