JADWA INVESTMENT - GLOBAL OIL SECTOR - Q2 2014 By Qadeer Ahmad Siddiqui Dubai UAE: lobal oil demand in Q2 2014 increased by 1 million barrels per day (mbpd) year-onyear supported by economic uplift in the US, whilst falls in OPEC production saw global supply limited to increases of 0.4 mbpd, year-onyearQ3 2014 oil demand will rise due to the summer peak season and a sustained recovery in the US economy plus steady growth in China will help push global oil demand consumption growth to 1.1 mbpd in 2014 Non-OPEC supply will exceed global demand growth in 2014 but this will not translate to lower Brent prices, as geopolitical issues in Ukraine, Libya and Iraq keep a floor on prices. As a result, we have revised our Brent oil forecasts upwards from $105 per barrel previously, to an average of $109 per barrel in 2014. We also revised our Saudi crude production to 9.7 mbpd for 2014, up from 9.4 mbpd previously. The main factors for the revision include, lower than anticipated output from other OPEC members, faster upturn in the US economy, and continued higher year-on-year domestic Saudi consumption.

Oil Demand: According to OPEC data, global demand in Q2 2014 increased by 1 mbpd yearon-year with 1.2 mbpd increase from non-OECD countries and a drop of 0.2 mbpd in OECD countries. Rising consumption during the summer months will push demand upwards in Q3 2014, with a pickup in economic activity, primarily in the US, supporting higher consumption during the third and fourth quarters of 2014 .The US is the main source of demand growth amongst the OECD countries. Further evidence of a full scale recovery in the US economy was provided by higher Q2 2014 manufacturing PMI’s, which will contribute to US oil demand rising to an average of 15.6 mbpd in 2014, up 2.1 percent, yearon-year.EU oil demand growth will continue to be weak due to the stuttering economy; Q2 2014 PMI’s declined slightly, compared to the previous quarter. Although we expect the EU economy to improve marginally over the second half of the year, as the fiscal position of the southern European economies continues to improve and industrial production recovers, structural changes through continuing improvements in fuel economy standards (Figure 2), will mean growth in oil consumption will be limited for the foreseeable future. Japanese oil demand in Q2 2014 was broadly unchanged year-on-year and will remain flat during the remainder of 2014 due to changes in the energy landscape. Although the Japanese economy has been weighed down by a sales tax, which was introduced at the start of June 2014, a mild recovery is expected on the back of central bank money injections and government spending.
improved in Q2 2014, with June’s PMI rising above the 50 mark for the first time in 2014 (Figure 3). However, China’s ability to meet its forecasted annual GDP of 7.5 percent is also contingent on the strength of overseas demand, and with only tepid growth in key export markets of EU and a recent upturn in the US, the risk of slower economic growth and, in turn, oil demand remains. Despite this, we still expect oil demand growth to be above 3 percent for the whole of 2014, as government infrastructure projects, new refineries and oil stockpiling sustain demand. The Crimea standoff between Ukraine and Russia has stabilized with the Russian government sending less hawkish signals around the invasion of eastern Ukraine. Nevertheless, risks of further fall in demand in oil for Russia does remain as existing sanctions and record capital outflow from the private sector, at $50.6 billion in the 1Q 2014, up from $27.5 billion year-ony e a r, h a v e h u r t t h e economy with downside risks through weaker 2014 GDP growth, forecasted at 0.8 percent, down from previous forecasts of 1.3 percent.Indian oil demand will remain at around 2 percent for the next two quarters. Demand will be held up by continued expansion in the construction sector but remains open to downside risks through macroeconomic uncertainty relating to a large fiscal deficit and capital outflows due to a lack of economic reform.Saudi Arabia consumption averaged 1.9 mbpd in the first half of 2014, up 28 percent, yearon-year. This rise was much higher than other GCC countries, which only increased by an average of 1 percent, over the same period. The sharp rise in oil demand from Saudi Arabia is largely a result of the startup of the 0.4 mbpd Satorp refinery in Q4 2013, which has pushed up refinery intake levels since the beginning of the year. Going forward, increased demand for generation in electricity during the summer months will see Saudi Arabian oil consumption rise in Q3 2014 and continuing economic growth will sustain oil demand throughout the remainder of 2014.
western Siberia oil fields, which yield two-thirds of total production, are very mature and require more capital intensive investment to maintain output levels. Total output from OPEC dropped by 4.5 percent in Q2 2014, year-on-year. OPEC continues to be affected by large falls in Libyan output, down 84 percent in Q2 2014, yearon-year. Latest OPEC data shows that Iraqi crude production rose by 2.6 percent, year-on-year, in Q2 2014, to 3.1 mbpd. We believe that the current civil strife in Iraq will not negatively impact oil output going forward. This is because, firstly, the main oil facilities are located in the south of the country where 90 percent of Iraqi crude exports are shipped from, and these areas have been unaffected by the violence. In northern Iraq around 0.2 mbpd of oil supply has gone offline as the main delivery point of this crude, the Baiji refinery, has been captured by insurgents. Secondly, insurgents in the north-west do not enjoy the same level of political support in the oil areas of the south and, lastly, any further push south by these groups is likely to draw military action from US, Iraq and Iran. In fact we see the main threat as coming from small scale attacks that add to a negative market perception which, in turn, keep a floor on oil prices. As such we forecast that Iraqi oil production will remain around current levels. According to the South Oil Company, exports from southern Iraq dropped by 7 percent in June, month-onmonth, to an average of 2.4 mbpd. These drops were attributed to upgrades and expansions work related to new export infrastructure which, after completion, will help increase the level of exports during the second half of 2014.The ongoing troubles in Libya continue to depress crude output, with total Libyan production lost since August 2013 now exceeding 350 million barrels. A recent agreement between the government and rebel groups has resulted in the opening of two terminals, with the potential to expand total output to 0.7 mbpd, up from Q2 2014 average of 0.2 mbpd. Although these are welcome positive political developments we still expect limited uptick in oil output from Libya as, firstly, the pattern that has emerged from the country seems to be that any positive development is likely to be reversed very quickly and secondly, even if the current agreement is genuine, export shipments are likely to face technical delays due to damage and neglect. As such we expect limited improvement in sustained Libyan production and exports for the remainder of 2014. Iran’s crude output decreased 14 percent yearon-year in Q2 2014, to 3.2 mbpd, but rising levels of exports are helping to reverse the declines in production. Under a Joint Plan of Action (JPAO) signed in November 2013 between the US and Iran, exports were to be limited to an average of 1 mbpd through to July 2014. In the first half of 2014, Iran has exported an average of 1.2 mbpd, with China being the largest customer. Whereas Japan, India and South Korea have cut back on purchases,
sabotage in 2013. On top of this an insurgency in northern Nigeria is adding to security fears. So far, much of the security problems have been concentrated in the north but any spread of attacks further south could target oil infrastructure which would no doubt contribute to fluctuating and unpredictable output. Saudi Arabian crude production was up by 2 percent in Q2 2 0 1 4 , y e a r - o n - y e a r, bringing the first half 2014 production average to 9.7 mbpd, up from 9.3 mbpd over the same period in 2013. We had previously forecasted full year 2014 average Saudi production at 9.4 mbpd, but we are now revising this upwards to 9.7 mbpd. A number of factors have led us to revise our production forecast, including continued outages and slower growth in output from other OPEC members, faster than expected upturn in the US economy resulting in higher demand for Saudi crude, and higher year-on-year domestic Saudi consumption. In the previous forecast one primary assumption had been that Saudi Arabia’s share of total OPEC production would gradually fall during the year as output from Libya came back online and Iraqi production steadily rose to around 4 mpbd over the course of 2014. As pointed out earlier, we now do not see Libyan supply returning to normal levels until after 2014, whilst security and infrastructure issues in Iraq will prevent production from rising beyond current levels for remainder of the year. We also see some rises in demand for Saudi crude coming from an improving US economy. Although shale oil has allowed the US to reduce its imports of crude oil, these reductions have affected producers of mainly lighter crude types, such as Nigeria, but because a majority of US refineries are still configured towards processing heavier crudes, imports from Saudi have not been be adversely affected. In fact, in the first half of 2014 Saudi crude exports to US averaged 1.4 mbpd, up from 1.2 mbpd in same p e r i o d l a s t year.Furthermore, increased demand for generation in Saudi Arabia electricity during the summer months in Q3 2014 and continuing economic growth throughout the remainder of 2014 will result in Saudi domestic consumption not changing substantially from first half 2014 average consumption of 1.9 mbpd.As a result of the factors outlined above, we now see Saudi Arabia production averaging 9.7 mbpd for 2014 as whole

Aimed at increasing efficiency of FOD (Foreign Object Debris) collection the new FOD*BOSS Sweep Tracker App also supports the upgraded next generation Phase 3 FOD*BOSS sweeper which was introduced earlier in 2014.Operations personnel can now, for the first time, track their entire FOD sweeping programme by logging on to an online database which, using GPS technology, tracks and logs its user ’s sweeping operations. The App calculates the distance swept and areas covered by the FOD*BOSS sweeper; it then records this information together with the weight of debris collected by the operator, enabling comparison of one sweep to the next. In addition the user can watch a FOD sweep live via the App so enabling them to compare and monitor FOD Sweeps to ensure all areas of the airfield are covered. “FOD doesn’t just damage engines and injure personnel, it also damages tyres, both on aircraft and ground support vehicles” said Aerosweep Manager Brook Tozer. We wanted to develop a precision sweeper to prevent Foreign Object Damage to highly vulnerable jet engines, aircraft and vehicles. We anticipate that the supporting iPhone App will become an essential tool for an airport’s FOD management system. The United States FAA (Federal Aviation Administration)

The newly created FOD*BOSS Sweep Tracker App will also assist airports with key documentation and reporting tasks. We are continually looking at developing its capabilities and with the new iPhone App operations teams can save time and eradicate as much FOD as possible from an airfield, so ensuring maximum safety.Jon Harper Business Development Manager for Cambridge Airport and Franchise Manager for the FOD*BOSS product for the last six years in the UK and Ireland says, This innovative App will really add value to the sweeping strategy of an airport as keeping the apron, runway, and tarmac areas clear is crucial for safe airport operations. The new App provides a cost effective way of improving efficiency and monitoring. It will certainly be welcomed by existing and new clients. The importance of the FOD*BOSS sweeping equipment is exemplified by the fact that over 60% of the UK civil airports use the product and Harper states that year on year growth is increasing at a rate of 10% annually. STANDARD CHARTERED PRIVATE BANK,CAMPDEN WEALTH RESEARCH LAUNCH FIRST ASIA, AFRICA AND MIDDLE EAST HNW REPORT – ‘BUSINESS BEFORE WEALTH’ Report shows 82 per cent of Middle East business owners surveyed have already internationalised their businesses. By Qadeer Ahmad Siddiqui Dubai UAE: tandard Chartered Private Bank (the Private Bank), in partnership with Campden Wealth Research, has today launched “Business Before wealth”, a report on the wealth management needs and preferences of High Net Worth (HNW) business owners in Asia, Africa and t h e M i d d l e E a s t . The research surveyed stakeholders in family businesses with a 2012 turnover and family net worth in excess of US$100 million, as well as stakeholders in non-family businesses with a 2012 turnover and individual net worth in excess of US$25 million. Our footprint markets coincide with the fastest growing wealth pools in the world and entrepreneurs are a key driver of this economic growth and the creation of jobs in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. These emerging market entrepreneurs are fast becoming an ever-more crucial client segment. This research reveals the dynamics of business and personal wealth of this new segment of wealthy individuals, and hopefully generates thought and
S
discussion on how private banks can adapt to serve them better, said Michael Benz, Global Head, Private Banking Clients, Standard Chartered Private Bank. The report showed that growing their business remains the primary and dominant goal for HNW business owners in the Middle East. The report also showed that 82 per cent of Middle East business owners surveyed have already internationalised their businesses compared to 58 per cent of Asian businesses and 42 per cent of African businesses implying the need for international banking services that support the geographic reach and growth of these b u s i n e s s e s . A n overwhelming majority (85
per cent) of respondents are heavily involved in the daily management and financial affairs of their business. Together with the main focus on growing their business, this leaves less time for personal wealth strategies, including planning for the eventual transfer of wealth, although, in the long-term, the importance of personal wealth preservation triples from 7 per cent to 21 per cent. As a matter of fact, several of the study’s interviewees admitted the need for education when it comes to preserving the family wealth. Commenting on the report’s findings for the region, Stephen Richards Evans, Regional Head of Private Banking for Europe, Middle East, Africa and South Asia, said:Over the past 92 years of presence in the Middle East region, Standard Chartered has accumulated a deep understanding of and strong relationships with the High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs) who drive investment, trade and the accumulation of wealth. This report highlights the preferences and behaviours of HNWIs when it comes to managing their business growth and approach to wealth management. Its
findings underline the value addition that Standard Chartered as a full service bank offering Islamic and Conventional Retail, Corporate, Commercial and Private Banking services, brings to our clients. As a relationship-centric Bank, Standard Chartered strives to build deep and long term relationships with our clients with the aim of being their trusted financial advisor for growth and management of both their business and personal wealth in one continuum. In the Middle East as well as the rest of the surveyed regions, an average of almost half the respondents lack formal plans to transfer their wealth to the next generation. Structures for wealth transfer were more likely to be found among respondents who were not part of the founding generation of the business i.e. next generation – 67 per cent of this group has a structure in place. Standard Chartered provides a comprehensive range of trust and fiduciary services through its dedicated offshore trust centers in Singapore and Guernsey to preserve wealth and facilitate generational change and transfer.

ICC URGES RESPECT FOR JUDICIAL PROCESS By Qadeer Ahmad Siddiqui Dubai UAE: The International Cricket Council (ICC) today urged all relevant parties to respect the judicial process in relation to the alleged incident that took place during the first Test at Trent Bridge which has resulted in charges being brought against England's James Anderson and India's Ravindra Jadeja. In a statement on Sunday, ICC Chief Executive David Richardson said: “England captain Alastair Cook and, more recently, India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni have made public comments relating to the alleged incident that took place during the first Test at Trent Bridge, the latter of which is critical of and undermines the ICC disciplinary process. The ICC would also like to reiterate its full support of the process followed and respect for the decision made by David Boon. ICC Code of Conducthearings of this nature
are, generally speaking, difficult processes to work through, with detailed legal submissions, witness statements and oral witness testimony. We are satisfied that Mr Boon carefully and comprehensively considered the evidence and submissions presented to him at the hearing, which included conflicting evidence from both sides, prior to making his decision. In legal matters such as this, the ICC takes extremely seriously its duty as administrators of the game. Therefore, I request all stakeholders to respect the process which remains ongoing and remind them of their duties to the integrity of the process and the sport so that we can focus on the game of cricket itself. The hearing of England bowler James Anderson will be held on Friday 1 August in Southampton and will be conducted by the Judicial Commissioner, His Honour Gordon Lewis AM.
By Qadeer Ahmad Siddiqui Dubai UAE: ith the holiday season in full swing, Rashid Al Dhaheri has been on a intensive karting adventure in Italy in what rates as the most comprehensive training programme ever embarked on by a young aspiring race driver from the UAE.The Abu Dhabi school boy, fondly referred to as Little Alonso, participated in karting race weekends at Lonato, Siena and Ottobiano venues and also undertook an intensive training course held under the auspices by the Italian federation ACI CSAI in Naples. Here he got his first taste of more powerful 60cc karts. The races and training events were for drivers between 6 and 8 years of age, with Rashid, at six years and three months, invariably the youngest in the groups. But this did little to deter the youngster who impressed with every outing, and it is safe to say that he emerged from the experience a more complete and mature driver, that belies his young age.Although Italy is engulfed in summer the weather played a part in proceedings, with inevitable rainy days adding to the challenges faced by Al Dhaheri.Nevertheless this was all part and parcel of the programme which also included racing in big field of over thirty young up-andcoming drivers, battling with rivals wheel-to-wheel, while learning the finer techniques of racing; such as rolling starts and the

various flag rules that are part of the sport. The recurring theme of Al Dhaheri's participation was his eagerness to learn, his ability to follow instructions and constantly running at the sharp end of the field in all the races he participated in.Perhaps one of the most significant steps taken during the Italian summer campaign was his participation in the highly acclaimed and intensive karting training camp organised by the ACI CSAI Federal School at Napoli Sarno International Circuit, from 7 to 10 July.Training at the highly reputable institute was conducted under the d i r e c t i o n o f R a ff a e l e Giammaria, with supervision by former Formula 1 team owner Gian Carlo Minardi, with guest instructors which included Gimmi Bruni 2013 FIA Endurance World Champion and winner of the 2014 Le Mans 24 hours for Ferrari.Rashid joined 20 promising young drivers, aged between 6 and 10, in what was a four day course, which included practical and theoretical lessons.Again the young Emirati impressed, G i a m m a r i a reported:Rashid is very good boy, he was attentive to the activities. He showed good independence and confidence, in particular at an emotional level, and although he is very young he could easily mix it with the older boys.He has good d r i v i n g s e n s i b i l i t y, considering his very young age and he did not show any problems to understand the

DAVID RICHARDSON REACTION TO JACQUES KALLIS RETIREMENT By Qadeer Ahmad Siddiqui Dubai UAE: CC Chief Executive David Richardson has thanked South Africa's Jacques Kallis for his contribution to the sport, saying he will be remembered for a long time for his consistency with both bat and ball in all formats of the game.In his statement, Mr Richardson, said: Jacques Kallis will go down as one of the greatest all-round cricketers in the history of the game. Since making his international debut at the age of 20, he has been a mainstay of the South African line-up in all forms of the game.During his illustrious career spanning nearly two decades, Jacques played a total of 519 internationals in which he scored 25,534 runs with 62 centuries and took 577 wickets, besides 338 catches. To maintain such a high level of form and fitness in international cricket, is an incredible feat and should be an inspiration for younger generation of cricketers aspiring to be bracketed in the league of legends of the sport.Jacques played the game in a highly competitive manner and he can look back on his career with great pride. We wish Jacques and his family well with the next exciting phase of their lives.

He was also very respectful of the flags and signals, which is a good sign.Rashid is very young but has great opportunities to improve because he drives a great deal, and with good coaching he will improve even more. I am very pleased with his progress considering he is only six years old, added Bruni.Al Dhaheri's finest moment during a month of many highs, must undoubtedly be his showing in the Nazionale Easy Kart series at the Pista South Milano in Ottobiano, in Italy, on the weekend of 12-13 July 2014.In the first race, With
grid positions determined by lucky draw for Heat 1, Rashid was allocated 30th place on the grid out of 33 drivers. Being way down the grid did not deter the y o u n g s t e r, b u t r a t h e r inspired him to a rousing drive through the field to finish fifth.Later in Heat 2, Little Alonso started from fourth, and early on moved up to second, chased the leader before digging deep into his race craft and pouncing on the last lap of the race to claim victory. Crowning one of his most impressive race weekends. In the aftermath of his busy schedule, Al Dhaheri is enjoying a well deserved and relaxing holiday with his family, recharging for the second half of the season which resumes in September and will include training and racing at Dubai Kartdrome.Proudest of all is his father Ali Al Dhaheri who summed up Rashid's productive Italian summer,We are very proud of Rashid and his great progress in the world of karting. He tackled a challenging programme with enthusiasm and good spirits which impressed everyone he met in Italy. He listened attentively to instructions and adhered to the things he learnt in training, by delivering results on track. His regular training programme is working well and we see constant improvement despite the fact that he is racing with kids who are older than him, added Ali Al Dhaheri.

With all to lose in the final he drove a well calculated and steady race, needing only to finish behind Al Mutawaa to claim the championship - which

Thus from down the grid he battled past some of the toughest SWS karting campaigners to take fifth place, setting the fastest lap in the process, and making claim to the drive of the night.Ali Al Mansoori was a title contender before Round 4, but he was on the wrong side of the track battles in the heat races which compromised his starting

changing rapidly, according to global research consultancy TNS. While our love affair with television endures, TV sets alone are no longer enough to satisfy our appetite for content, driving the growth of online media and ‘screen-stacking’ as a result. In Connected Life, a study of over 55,000 internet users worldwide, TNS found that almost half of people (48%) who watch TV in the evening simultaneously engage in other digital activities, such as using social media, checking their emails or shopping online.According to Steve Hamilton-Clark, CEO TNS MENA similar trends are active in key markets in the Middle East. Report data shows that 64% of TV viewers in Saudi Arabia and 50% in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)
are engaged in other digital activities simultaneously, higher than the global average.Hamilton-Clark said that as digital landscape is shown to differ by country, brands should approach each market specifically in order to increase their market share. The survey also revealed that consumers in both KSA and UAE markets tend to own up to four digital devices, in line with global figures. This, combined with demand for TV and video content on-the-go, is fuelling the rise of multiscreening or ‘screenstacking’ behaviour - the use of multiple digital devices at the same time.Hamilton-Clark noted that demand for live and onthe-go content was amplified during the recent FIFA World Cup. Viewers worldwide accessed this international sporting event via multiple devices at home and on the move, while also engaging in conversations on social media platforms. The desire to access favourite TV shows at all hours of the day is also driving online TV usage, extending user access to them. One quarter (25%) of those surveyed worldwide watch content on a PC, laptop, tablet or mobile daily. This rises to one third (33%) in mainland China and Singapore and 32% in Hong Kong, where 'phablets' are increasingly popular. Meanwhile, closer to home, in Saudi Arabia approximately one-third of those surveyed watch

content o n devices, higher than the global average. T h i s trend is relatively lower amongst viewers in the UAE with only 15% watching the content on multiple devices. In Hong Kong, more people actually choose to watch TV and video online rather than on traditional sets. After dinner, one quarter of people (26%) tune into content on their digital devices, in contrast to 14% who switch on their TVs.Yet despite this surge in online consumption, traditional TV sets still play a huge part in our lives, with three quarters of respondents (75%) sitting in front of the box every day. In Saudi Arabia, this rises to 91%, with the UAE not so far behind at 86%. TV dinners are also alive and well, with three out of four viewers (76%) giving TV their undivided attention while eating in the evening. Many of the big global media companies are already taking advantage of growing online viewing trends, offering on-demand services such as BBC iPlayer, Hulu or HBO GO, which allow people to access premium content wherever they are through their phones or tablets.Commenting on the findings, Matthew Froggatt,
Chief Development Officer at TNS, said:In a world where multi-tasking is the norm, the context in which we watch TV is rapidly changing - it isn’t just on the sofa at home with no other digital distractions around us. Instead, the growth in screen-stacking and online TV viewing is huge, particularly in the Asian markets, driven by a growing demand for content among viewers. While there is no disputing that our love of traditional TV remains, advertisers must continue to adapt to our changing viewing habits. Online devices are offering more ways to access TV and video content, meaning that brands will need to adopt a more integrated online approach in order to engage consumers. However, many people around the world are still wedded to their TV sets, particularly when they are with their families and friends. Our ongoing love affair with TV has been supported by the rise in digital set-top boxes, catchup TV and on-demand services such as Sky+ and Virgin TV Anywhere.

nominating its top six senior students from marketing, business administration, travel and tourism, event management and finance streams. Each student was asked to submit an essay on a topic chosen by the DSS Apprenticeship Program team. This year’s topic was: “What would you do differently for DSS 2014, in terms of promoting and positioning this event for your local market, if you were assigned the position of Chief Marketing Officer for DSS?” A special jury comprising key DFRE executives and other marketing professionals evaluated all the final submissions before shortlisting a winner from each country. In her winning essay, Sarah Makki, the winning student from the UAE, said: “As Chief Marketing Officer for DSS, I will mainly focus on promoting the event via social media channels and also reintroduce the weekly surprises through new additions. I would organize a competition where fans are invited to post relevant pictures throughout DSS. Participants will be encouraged to use the hashtags ? #? By Qadeer Ahmad Siddiqui Dubai UAE: udi is reinforcing its leading role in a u t o m o t i v e lightweight construction. The company is introducing new, lightweight suspension springs made of glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) in an upper midsize model before the end of the year. The GFRP spring, which Audi developed in collaboration with an Italian supplier, even looks different than a steel spring. It is light green, the fiber strand is thicker than the wire of a steel spring, and it has a slightly larger overall diameter with a lower number of coils. Most importantly, however, it is some 40 percent lighter. Whereas a steel spring for an upper mid-size model weighs nearly 2.7 kilograms, a GFRP spring with the same properties weighs just approximately 1.6 kilograms. Together the four GFRP springs thus reduce the weight by roughly 4.4 kilograms, half of which pertains to the unsprung mass. The GFRP springs save weight at a crucial location in the chassis system. We are therefore making driving more precise and enhancing vibrational comfort, said Dr. Ulrich
A
Hacke nberg, Memb er of t h e Board o f Manag e m e n t f o r Te c h n i c a l Development at AUDI AG.The core of the springs consists of long glass fibers twisted together and impregnated with epoxy resin. A machine wraps additional fibers around this core which is only a few millimeters in diameter at alternating angles of plus and minus 45 degrees to the longitudinal axis. These tension and compression plies mutually support one another to optimally absorb the stresses acting on the component. In the last production step, the blank is cured in an oven at temperatures of over 100 degrees Celsius. The GFRP springs can be precisely tuned to their respective task, and the material exhibits outstanding properties. It does not corrode, even after stone chipping, and is impervious to chemicals such as wheel cleaners. Last but not least, production requires far less energy than the production of steel springs.

INDIAN INVESTORS EMERGE AS MISPLACED TARGET IN INDIA’S NEW BUDGET STATEMENT By Qadeer Ahmad Siddiqui Dubai UAE: he recent Budget Statement released by the Indian government looks set to bring about a sea change in the tax regime surrounding domestic and international investment. While there may be an initial adjustment period by mutual funds and Foreign Institutional Investors (FII's), the long term impact at an institutional level is still too early to assess, according to leading international real e s t a t e c o n s u l t a n c y, Cluttons.Of greater significance is the proposed eradication of the Capital Gains Tax holiday on overseas residential property investments. While the sudden reintroduction of a 20% Capital Gains Tax rate change will no doubt trigger greater scrutiny of international residential investments by Indian investors, it will result in a recoiling of global investment activity by Indians on a scale that is likely to have a significant impact on many markets. In Dubai for instance, the announcement comes at a time when the market is positively responding to government regulation to cool the rapid pace of capital value growth. Following last year's record 51% rise in home values, capital values climbed by just 3.1% during Q1, which was largely due to the introduction of Federal Mortgage Caps, which limit the size of mortgages extended.Faisal Durrani, Cluttons’ London based International Research and Business Development Manager commented: “Indian nationals were the largest group of buyers in the Dubai residential market last year and remain amongst the largest cohort of investors in the emirate. The ending of the period of tax-free property trading for this group will of course further deter 'property flipping', which could have a knock on effect on the residential market’s growth in the short term, while Indian investors assess their options.Elsewhere in the Gulf, the drivers are slightly different. Gulf-based Indian investors targeting Muscat for example, are in increasing numbers, seeking out retirement homes. These investments are however far more long term as they appear to be driven by the ability to secure residence visas on the back of their property investments. This trend is particularly noticeable amongst non-resident Indians based in Dubai, where regulations surrounding retirement homes remains a grey area. Muscat’s relative proximity to Dubai and excellent road and air-links have helped to heighten the appeal of owning a home in O m a n . D u r r a n i added:Looking further afield to London, which emerged as the top investment target by HNWI's during Cluttons’ 2013/14 International Private Capital Survey, the impact is likely to be less pronounced. Although we are seeing Indian buyers rapidly growing in importance to the London

residential market, the appeal and prestige associated with a London investment is not expected to be dented by the change to the Indian tax regime. When asked about their thoughts on a potential UK ‘Mansion Tax', or change to the UK Stamp Duty Rates for international buyers during Cluttons’ survey last year, HNWI's were more concerned with the speed at which they could grasp these amendments and make the necessary provisions, rather than the actual cost implications; a sentiment that is likely to be echoed by Indians contemplating Londonbased residential investments.Overall, London's appeal is expected to remain virtually unaffected by the proposed tax changes, with further large scale institutional deals such as India Bulls recent US$ 264 million acquisition in Mayfair, or the Lodha Group’s US$ 680 million Grosvenor Square purchase expected in the short-medium term.Durrani concluded: "It is however important to note that at this early stage it remains unclear as to how the Indian government intends to implement this proposed change and perhaps more significantly, how they plan to monitor global property transactions by Indian nationals.Furthermore, the inadvertent targeting of overseas investments seems misplaced. Current regulations mean that international investors are locked in to India-based real estate investments for a period of three-years, after which they are faced with a 20% Capital Gains Tax, should they liquidate their investment. Creating capital gains tax bands that are linked to the length of real estate investments would not only reward longer periods of investment, but also dramatically boost the appeal of India to the international investment community. What we would really like to see is a move by the new Government to tackle the ubiquitous, untaxed cash component that plays a major part in real estate transactions within India's borders. These undermine the wider economy and such a move would enable greater transparency ahead of the mooted Real Estate Investment Trust regulations, further enhancing this sector's profile for institutional investors.

“SEA VIEWS EVERY DAY AND A FANTASTIC LIFESTYLE” - TURKEY’S CHARM WINS OVER ANOTHER BRITISH EXPAT By Qadeer Ahmad Siddiqui Dubai UAE: aking up to sunshine and sparkling sea views is now a daily treat for Sara Chandler from Essex, who has recently relocated to her apartment on a 5-star complex in Turkey, after successfully purchasing it through property agency Spot Blue International P r o p e r t y. M s C h a n d l e r bought her two-bedroom apartment, located in Tuzla and 30 minutes from the hot spot of Bodrum town, in May 2013, after finding it on the Internet and arranging a viewing with Spot Blue International Property. She paid around £75,000 for the property, including furniture, using the proceeds from the sale of her UK property to fund it. After monthly visits to Turkey, she has now decided to base herself there, returning to the UK to work for a few months of the year.Being a self-employed marketing consultant gives me the flexibility to live in Turkey and return to the UK for work purposes it’s ideal, said Ms Chandler. So I have just applied for residency. The lifestyle here is fantastic and I have already made new friends on my complex, both British and Turkish, and I’ve also started learning Turkish. When Ms Chandler began her search for an overseas home, Turkey wasn’t her first choice, but
W
she was won over by how far her money would go there, as well as the lifestyle on offer. She revealed: “I went to see a friend in the Algarve who recommended buying there. I knew I had to have sea views and wanted to be somewhere not too built up, but with amenities close by. However, you pay a premium to get all that in the Algarve, so I looked at Turkey, where I hadn’t been for around 20 years, and it ticked all the boxes I can see the sea from my balcony!Extensive facilities, including pools, golf, restaurants, shops and a gym, spa and beauty centre, mean Ms Chandler needn’t leave the complex unless she wants to, but she enjoys a daily stroll to the local fishing village, Bogazici.Ms Chandler is grateful to Spot Blue International Property for the smooth purchase of her Turkish apartment. “I fell in love with my property from the photo of the sea view that I saw on the internet. I came out to see it two weeks later and was ready to buy from the British vendor, however I spent two days with Spot Blue who wisely made me view other properties, around eight in total, just to check there wasn’t something else I’d prefer. They were very helpful, and assisted me with finding a lawyer and ensured the handover went smoothly and I received my TAPU.

ATELIERS LOUIS MOINET RECEIVES AN IIPP AWARD AT UNESCO By Qadeer Ahmad Siddiqui Dubai UAE: hat better reward could there be to celebrate its tenth anniversary? Founded in 2004, Ateliers Louis Moinet has just received a Merit for Development award from the International Institute for Promotion and Prestige (IIPP) in cooperation with UNESCO. The highly sought-after prize is awarded to companies responsible for
W
extraordinary achievements and this is the first ever Merit for Development of Watchmaking Arts and Technologies. In its fifty years of existence, the IIPP has awarded only two other distinctions in the field of watchmaking. The renowned prize offers further fulfilment of the vocation of Ateliers Louis Moinet: reinstating Louis Moinet (who was born in Bourges in 1758 and died in Paris in 1853) in the pantheon of great w a tc h m a k e r s . A m a j o r milestone on the road to realising this ambition came in March 2013, when the firm unveiled the first chronograph in history – dating back to 1816 and signed by Louis Moinet’s own hand. The timepiece marked the beginnings of high-frequency chronometry a whole century ahead of its time. From the outset, Ateliers Louis Moinet has been committed to making watches that reflect Louis Moinet’s genius and forerunner vision, in a blend of art and technology. Pioneering the use of out-ofthis-world materials such as meteorite fragments from the Moon and Mars, Ateliers Louis Moinet has also distinguished itself by producing limited-edition pieces that skilfully match design with innovative technology a combination which has already won five Red Dot Awards, as well as an International Chronometry Competition
prize. The IIPP award offers independent recognition of the overall work of Ateliers Louis Moinet, conferred by an international body that rewards excellence and the significant contributions of an individual or company to their specific art. The firm joins previous award-winners including NASA, the Russian Academy of Sciences, Porsche, IBM, Microsoft and Jacques Cousteau. This distinction confirms the legitimacy of our mission achieving due recognition for the merit of a visionary genius who successfully encapsulated the art of watchmaking and nurtured it towards unprecedented new developments. In the early 2000s, the name of Louis Moinet was all but forgotten; now, he has found his rightful place as one of the greatest watchmakers of all time, says Jean-Marie Schaller, CEO and founder of Ateliers Louis Moinet. His Traité d’Horlogerie encyclopaedia of 1848 is nothing less than a philosopher ’s stone for contemporary watchmaking and is probably only the tip of the iceberg as far as his work is concerned, with much m o r e y e t t o b e discovered. This is one of the rarest and most prestigious distinctions in the world, rewarding companies that have achieved the most remarkable feats at an international level,” said Mrs Gisèle Rutman, Executive Chair of IIPP. “Today we are pleased to award the Merit for Development of Watchmaking Arts and Technologies to Ateliers Louis Moinet, by unanimous decision of the panel. The distinction was presented at a ceremony held on July 8, 2014 at the UNESCO Palace, Paris.Luis Moinet is available in the UAE exclusively through Damas in stores in Burj Al Arab, Mall of Emirates, Dubai Mall, Zabeel Saray and Mina Al Salam.
Matterhorn, Switzerland’s most famous landmark. FIVE COOL CAR APPS THAT MAKE CRUISING MUCH EASIER Don’t go another day owning a car without the coolest applications! By Qadeer Ahmad Siddiqui Dubai UAE: Did you know that we spent nearly 45 days every year on our mobile devices? Yes that’s right. And since we are at it, we might as well get the best of apps that can help us cruise through life in an easier fashion. Let’s start with owning a car and then move on to navigating, parking and so on. Take a look at these 5 cool apps that may not do the actual driving for you, but would certainly help you avoid the daily annoyances that you may encounter: Carmudi:There is no point downloading a driving app without actually owning a car. So whether you’re looking to buy your first ride or update your old one, look no further than the Carmudi. Carmudi app gives you a choice of 200,000 cars with detailed search filters and a ‘car park’ function that allows you to save your favourite machines. And the option of sharing your choice on social networks can help you get a second opinion from friends and family. Google Maps:Once you are in your car getting to where you need to be can sometimes be problematic. With this in mind, Google Maps is the answer. If you are lost and need to find your way then Android’s (Google’s) very own maps system will help you get out of trouble. Operational across the globe, it is a cool navigation system one can have. Trapster:Traffic jams are nothing but a nuisance and they can be the reason for missing important meetings and events. The Trapster app is a clever map-based alert system which informs drivers of what they fear most in advance before they encounter the annoyance of
a road build-up. Entitled ‘Trapster’ because it allows users to add information to a desktop version warning other drivers of the ‘traps’ of particular roads. AA Parking:Finding a place to park is always a hassle, let alone trying to find somewhere that is cheap too. With the ‘AA Parking’ app a driver is given the most convenient options to them, based on location and price. Never wander the streets again for long periods of time trying to find the best parking spot, only to walk 15 minutes to get to where you need to be. With this app on your mobile, you needn’t worry about aching legs. What Gas Petrol Prices:We all have a gas station that we visit on a regular basis, usually with agreeable prices. However, the situation where you need to fill up unexpectedly is always a risk. With this in mind it is essential that you download ‘WhatGas’. This app allows you to locate the nearest gas stations to you with the most affordable prices. Don’t pay over the odds for something you can get cheaper. If you would like to find the perfect ride to enjoy the benefits of all the apps, take a pit stop at w w w. c a r m u d i . c o m o r simply download the Carmudi app that lets you find your wheels on the go.
