TRIP TO THE HISTORICAL TOWN CENTRE

Bem no centro da cidade, na sua parte histórica, é oferecido ao turista um conjunto de edifícios de grande valor histórico e arquitetónico, dispostos ao longo das ruas Bento Carqueja e António Alegria. É obrigatória a visita à igreja matriz de S. Miguel, edificada no século XVII. Bem perto dela está o Marco Miliário representando a milha XII da via romana que ligava Coimbra a Gaia.

Nas imediações, localiza-se o edifício dos Paços do Concelho, datado de meados do século XIX, a estátua de homenagem ao escritor Ferreira de Castro, a Casa dos Corte-Real, do último quartel do século XVII, a Casa de Sequeira Monterroso e a Casa-Museu Regional de Oliveira de Azeméis.

Bem mais modernos são os edifícios projetados pelo arquiteto Álvaro Siza Vieira situados na avenida António José de Almeida.

At the city center, the Bento Carqueja and António Alegria Streets, present/showcase a wide variety of buildings of high historic and architectural interest. A visit to the “S. Miguel” Town Church, which was built in the XVIII century is mandatory. Not too far, is the Milestone meaning the XII mile of the Roman Road, which connected Coimbra to Gaia. Nearby, are located several representative buildings: the “Paços do Concelho” (Town Hall), a building dating back to the mid-19th century; a statue that honours Ferreira de Castro; the house of the “Corte-Real”, dating to the last quarter of the 17th century; the Sequeira Monterroso house and the Local Museum House of Oliveira de Azeméis. At the main street, António José de Almeida Avenue, are situated more modern buildings, designed by the architect Álvaro Siza Vieira.
