Letter from the rector
«I fear the silence of good people». This statement by Martin Luther King is particularly present in the times in which we live. In a society that increasingly counts on more media, more progress, more technology and more knowledge, we are deafened by the silence of those who, while able, fail to put these resources to the service of Good and man. Our University, determined to make true its motto VInce in bono malum, continues its crusade to ensure, amid all the noise, that the voice of man be heard. To this end, it insists on placing the person at the centre of education in the sciences and professions.
4 | UFV Annual Report 2015-2016
This year, we have seen the first graduates in Pharmacy, Psychology and Medicine - degree courses that enjoy a continued commitment to excellence which are be examples to be followed in the Spanish educational community. Moreover, the UFV has taken yet another innovative step forward with the start of the degree in Video Game Creation, with a unique and innovative approach to an industry that day by day connects with other sectors and requires professionals with clear values and demanding principles. The number of doctors at the UFV increases every year, consolidating the strength of our faculties and the quality of teaching which we offer our students.
The Optimus Award, which recognises those students who have been able to make their voice heard and show real commitment to their studies, has this year been awarded to Fernando Martín, who has studied in the Excellens Programme, and Fernando Alonso, who has graduated in Medicine. Finally, this year has witnessed the first stone being laid of our sports complex, designed by Alberto Campo Baeza. This will serve as another space for encounter and the consolidation of a community of individuals who, convened by principles of Truth, wish to make their voices heard in defence of Goodness and in favour of mankind.
Daniel Sada Castaño.

Le Cordon Bleu Madrid
Fundación Altius Francisco de Vitoria
The UFV’s school of haute cuisine opened its doors on our campus in January 2011 and since then it has grown to be the French culinary institution’s third-largest centre, behind Paris and London. Le Cordon Bleu was founded in the city of Paris in 1895 and now has more than 35 schools in 20 countries.
This is the UFV’s Foundation, carrying out the university’s mission by means of social action, caring for the most vulnerable groups within our society with the aim of ensuring their social, work and cultural integration.
The School finished this last academic year with 922 students enrolled in its haute cuisine courses.
Of the many social actions it carries out, of note is the ongoing ‘1 Kilo of Help’ initiative and the social accompaniment project, ‘I Cook Up Employment’, which is carried out in partnership with the Madrid Food Bank and has as its objective the finding of work for society’s most vulnerable groups.
Higher Vocational Training Centre Francisco de Vitoria - CETYS By means of Higher Vocational Training, CETYS provides the alternative to a University Degree, the options being the two main educational avenues open to those seeking higher education in Spain. After two years’ practical, hands-on training, the Higher Technician certificates awarded in the speciality studied are official, and allow subsequent direct access to university degree study. Moreover, at the UFV, we have a range of dynamic content validation plans, depending on the studies that each student has just completed. Logically, the University Degrees and Vocational Training Certificates link together extremely well. In the academic year 2015-16, 73 students went on to study a Degree course at the UFV after having completed their Higher Vocational Training with CETYS.
