EXHIBITION | VISUAL ARTS | IRELAND | Ages All Baboró welcomes back Morgan O’Brien as the artist for the 2010 brochure that features the delightful antics of our Baboró Bird. Notes from the Artist The Illustrations I create are for the child within us all. I am greatly inspired by the works of Charles Schultz, Bill Watterson, Beatrix Potter and Theodor Seuss Geisel. Not to mention Edgar Degas, Vincent Van Gogh and photographer Frans Lanting. In fact I find inspiration everywhere, movies, magazines, people, life, and of course nature. Children’s art however is the core inspiration for all of my work. I am simply fascinated and in awe of the wonderfully perfect and concentrated view of the world a young child manages to transfer to paper. I find early children’s artwork concise, honest, and overflowing with imagination and creativity. Morgan has exhibited his paintings throughout Ireland. After years of formal training as a traditional animator he decided to specialize in the areas of children's illustration and design. Since then he's been working on his own children's books as well as a multitude of freelance art and design projects. “...Morgan lives in Galway with his beautiful wife, two cats and two turtles in a creaky old bungalow, on the top of a hill, in the very centre of a spooky machinery graveyard!” Pg 19

Baboró salutes Eugene Lambert “Where did the day go?” I don’t know how many times I sat in Eugene and Mai Lambert’s warm, welcoming kitchen at the end of a long day and heard Eugene utter those words. There were never enough hours in the day for him – he had so many plans, ideas and visitors. I first met Eugene properly through his daughter Miriam, who performs at Baboró this year, when I went in to do “a bit of work in the office” in 1990. 20 years later, in early February, came the sad news that Eugene had passed away. He was a puppeteer, a director, a maker, a visionary, a father, grandfather and greatgrandfather, a husband and a friend and mentor to countless people who passed through his extraordinary theatre in Monkstown since it opened in 1972. He inspired many people, and I number myself among them – Eugene Lambert lives on in my heart as a friend and the inspiration for my work in the area of the arts for children and families. Baboró applauds Eugene, his wife Mai, and their family, for their extraordinary contribution to the artistic and cultural landscape of Ireland in the 21st century.
