OUR STORY

MOMSEN - FORGED IN THE UNTAMED At its inception in 2009, Momsen Bikes set out to create a homegrown bike brand to be proud of locally and admired & soughtafter internationally. We’ve achieved this…and then some. Our bikes are developed in South Africa with the local terrain in mind. Our core R&D team is based here in SA, where we research, design, create and form our models. They are tested hard on local, varied terrain – on the same trails and mountains, beaches and forests that you ride. And in the most severe conditions. They are forged in our beautiful, untamed country making Momsen Bikes tougher than the rest. After defeating the demanding trails in our own country, no other landscape could ever be too tough. And we’ve developed every bike bearing in mind our challenging landscape and how that impacts you. We know what it’s like to be you out there: hot, tired, in the middle-of-nowhere-bush with one last sip of hydration, so we designed a way to fit a 2nd water bottle cage into our VIPA full suspension front triangles . Our popular hardtail alloy 29ers feature an integrated top tube bag allowing you to carry your essential “on-bike” needs up top of your frame and within reach during riding. It is this unique understanding of the demands during a ride in the untamed South Africa that sets us apart and inspires confidence in all conditions on all different types of terrain.

While we’re infinitely proud of our South African roots, we don’t just stick to SA. Our guys compete on existing and prototype Momsen bikes whilst racing in events worldwide, from The Cape Epic to the UCI XCO World Cups. What this means for you is that year by year we are improving our bikes and making yours a better, faster, smoother, more enjoyable ride and giving you more confidence in the saddle. We love the competitive side of cycling and put a lot of research and energy into it, but we also understand that cycling is about more than competition—it’s about the conquest. It’s about the thrill. It’s about the challenge. And it’s about the fun. So we’ve created bikes that are suitable for everyone from the beginner and casual enthusiast, to the professional cyclist alike. At the end of the day, we do all this because it’s our passion. It’s our lifestyle – not our job. We live, eat, sleep and breathe bicycles. VIPA THE STORY Vipa: A winning formula. The Race-tried, Win-proven bike. Arguably the most successful high-end bicycle from any South African bicycle brand in the history of the local MTB market. The now legendary VIPA was the first true full carbon, full suspension bike to be designed and developed on South African trails. Dubbed “ SA’s first Superbike”, the bike has racked up numerous podiums and victories on the race circuit and continues to win the hearts and legs of avid marathon and XCO racers alike. A collaboration of a team of designers and engineers, the project took over 2 years of intensive development to bring the now legendary design to market. The results came shortly after its first release in 2014. One Category & Four Stage Wins - The first South African bicycle brand to win a category at the ABSA Cape Epic - The first South African designed & developed full carbon / full suspension MTB to win a stage in the ABSA Cape Epic. - Winner of the inaugural Redbull Run at the Joberg2C Hallmarks of this great design include: • Short Travel Design – 80mm wheel travel • Low Leverage Ratio for “bottomless” feel • Carbon Construction ensures light weight For 2016 we have once again pushed the envelope and are proud to offer the addition of a 2nd water bottle mount within the front triangle. This feature is something that not many brands can claim on such a lightweight suspension bike. Not only do we offer 2x water bottles, but we also allow a conventional positioning of the bottle cage on the seat tube whilst still maintaining both a low center of gravity (for the added weight of the water bottle), as well as reduced stand over of the frame with our regular top tube layout. SPUR SCHOOLS MOUNTAIN BIKE LEAGUE Momsen Bikes has been involved with this initiative since 2009, the league aims to provide a national platform to promote mountain biking amongst the younger generation, and places an emphasis on a schoolâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s team participation by means of a special points-based structure. Care is taken to make the races as fair and accessible as possible in terms of difficulty and distance. JUNIOR RACEBIKE. 26ER. We wrote the rules on this style of small frame with big wheels for kids. The 2016 JR100 represents the evolution of our unique frame geometry for kids who want the benefits of a 26” wheel but the frame size of a 24” bike.

EVENT INVOLVEMENT South Africa is the hotpot of stage races, marathons and worldclass mountain bike events. Our passion is not only designing and developing great bikes we also support and sponsor various events around the country. Trans Baviaans – The longest single-stage team MTB event in the world. As the official bike of this legendary event we cannot think of a better testing ground for our bikes and equipment. Gauteng / North West Province High School MTB League – Originally started in 2009 this series is now the biggest XCO series in South Africa. The breeding ground for SA’s youngest and brightest MTB talent. PE Plett – our “ local stage race “ – this event is now in its third year and takes place literally on our doorstep. We look forward to seeing this event grow from strength to strength here in the Eastern Cape.
