The „Berg Fidel“ skate park was built in 1989 , the same year of the first skateboard world championships in Münster, and was the first concrete skatepark in this city. Ever since the park has developed into an important youth and subcultural spot which is affectionately called a „skateboard heritage site“. After being through a lot over 20 years the idea to extend the park started to come together in 2008. The specifications for the extension and rebuild had to fit the current requirements and the „Monster Bowl“ still had to keep it‘s spot as the „skateboard heritage site“ in Germany‘s skateboarding landscape. At the end of the summer 2010 it finally got started: the construction company „Minus Ramps“ with Matt Grabowski took over and the ground-breaking began. Three months later the Berg Fidel skatepark reopened with a brand new look: a „skateboard heritage site“ which more than fulfilled it‘s name. Skateboarding can not be compared with traditonal sports. Subcultural structures and references to a diverse range of art forms like for example photography or music have left an impression and fundamentally form the scene. Photographer and skater Gerd Rieger accompanied daily the reconstruction of the Berg Fidel skatepark and documented the work with photographs. The exhibition „Shooting Concrete“ and the exhibition portfolio show impressive photographs of the Berg Fidel skatepark metamorphose.
