Four night itinerary
Southern Ocean Lodge offers a complete Kangaroo Island experience, blending pristine nature, contemporary surrounds and world-class local dining to create an unforgettable sense of place. Guests are presented with a personalised itinerary upon arrival including the lodge’s signature guided excursions, designed to explore the must-see sights of ‘Australia’s Galapagos’. Signature experiences are included in the tariff and are provided on an intimate shared basis with fellow guests at scheduled times. Private experiences can be arranged at additional cost subject to availability.
Four Night Expedition KI
The following represents an indicative experience over four nights. Many factors influence the delivered itinerary including flight arrival and departure times, pre-booked activities, guide and vehicle availability, weather conditions and seasonality. Any special arrangements made in advance or once at the lodge will be crafted within a custom itinerary ensuring the very best experience of both lodge and island.
Day 1 Welcome
Arrive on Kangaroo Island or ‘KI’ as the locals call it and journey to Southern Ocean Lodge on the remote south coast. Settle into the magnificent surrounds of the Great Room with welcome drinks and lunch in the restaurant.
Day 1 Afternoon
Get your bearings on the Coastal Clifftop Walk and realise Antarctica is next stop on the horizon. Enroute, the guide shares insights into the native ecology and the resilience of the Australian bush.
All-inclusive
A stay at the lodge is generously inclusive of all dining, help-yourself bar stocked with premium beverages, in-suite bar, signature experiences and airport transfers. Guests are invited to enjoy the lodge as their home away from home. Find out more »

Check in / Airport transfers
Check-in time is 2pm. Where possible, flexibility with early check-in will be provided. The lodge operates complimentary airport transfers connecting with scheduled flights to Kangaroo Island Airport shared with fellow guests. Private transfers can be arranged for an additional charge.

Day 1 Evening
Dine for dinner in the restaurant and savour a showcase of local and regional produce paired with South Australian wines to create a real taste of Kangaroo Island.
Day 2 Morning
Enjoy a hearty breakfast in the restaurant, fuel for a day of adventure ahead. The Wonders of Kangaroo Island experience travels deep into Flinders Chase National Park, site of the Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch and Cape du Couedic Lighthouse.
Day 2 Afternoon
Walk the wild isle on the lodge’s Signature Remarkable Hike. The thirteen-kilometre trek commences from the Remarkable Rocks to traverse the ruggedly beautiful coast to Cape Younghusband taking in a spectacular section of the KI Wilderness Trail.
Day 2 Evening
Join fellow guests in the cellar for an optional guided wine tasting session exploring South Australia’s diverse wine regions. Later, enjoy dinner in the lodge restaurant.
Day 3 Morning
After breakfast, journey to Seal Bay Conservation Park to meet the ‘locals’ on the Seal Bay Safari. A guided walk among the sea lion colony is just one of Kangaroo Island’s many privileges.

Day 3 Late Afternoon
Visit Hanson Bay Sanctuary, a mecca for native wildlife, and soak up the history of the early settlers at Grassdale on the Koalas and Kangas experience.
Day 3 Evening
Segue from sunset drinks and snacks in the Great Room to an early dinner in the restaurant. The kitchen team work closely with local producers to source fresh quality ingredients for the daily changing menu. Sit back to enjoy the flavours of Kangaroo Island.

Day 4 Morning
After breakfast, indulge in the Southern Spa. Treatments feature the all-natural alkeme spa care range complemented by island botanicals. Top or tail the visit with a dip in the hot and cold plunge pools.
Day 4 Afternoon
Step back in time and discover a labyrinth of sinkholes and caverns in the subterranean Kelly Hill Caves with guided commentary and dynamic lightshow.

Wine lovers can opt to join A Taste of SA in the cellar. Dinner showcases a bounty of local produce from freshly shucked oysters to free range lamb and just-caught fish.

Day 5 Morning
Stay in bed for a well-earned rest and witness the morning unfold along the sweep of coast. Draw a bath and brew a cuppa to savour the last moments of the stay and maybe begin to plan a return trip.

Dine for breakfast a final time and bags all packed, it’s onto your next port. Safe travels!

Bespoke Experiences
Tailor a special interest itinerary by adding an optional activity including an interactive birds of prey presentation at the Raptor Domain, visiting the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Park to cuddle a koala and meeting producers at the source along the KI Producers Trail.
In addition to the included signature experiences a menu of bespoke experiences offers further exploration. These optional activities may be requested at time of reservation or once at the lodge subject to availability (additional charges apply).
