DSWD names Mago as MIMAROPA’s best child JEMUEL Steven Mago, 13, from San Agustin, Romblon emerged as the regional winner capturing the hearts of the judges and audience with his passionate declamation and answer. Jemuel received Php10,000 and a plaque as the regional winner. On the other hand, Paul Darryl Marco from Pola, Oriental Mindoro; Joyce Ann Sayong from Paluan, Occidental Mindoro; Chednie Marie Portento from Sta. Cruz, Marinduque; and Jenevev Guerero from Quezon, Palawan were the first, second, third and fourth runner-ups who each received Php8,000, Php7,000, Php6,000 and Php5,000 with plaques, respectively. The Regional Search for Exemplary Pantawid Pamilya Children and Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya was held at the Best Western Hotel La Corona Manila last September 5. The annual activity aims to recognize beneficiaries who serve as excellent examples in their households, schools, and communities.

sektor at samahan tulad ng Laz-Toda, Sampaca, fisherfolks, roving market vendors, Hospital of the Holy Cross Staff, Tamaraw Dirt Riders, Lalud barangay officials, Little Angel Staff, Pastors Association, OM – Motorcycle Rider’s Club, SP-Casual Employee, Pamana Homes Owner’s Association, Sto.

“He is a World champion and Asian champion. I really wanted basketball but they declined. Coveta will be a good flag bearer,” wika ni Garcia.

September 15 - 20, 2014

I HAD an animated talk with a friend who felt concerned that at the end of his term, President Noynoy would be facing the same fate as former President Gloria. If you ask me, accountability considerations notwithstanding, former presidents who had served the country deserve something better than being immediately dragged to prison as soon as they stepped down from office. I don’t want this to happen also to P- Noy. Honestly. Or to any other former president for that matter. This is not to say that former presidents should be immune from accountability. No way should we encourage impunity. But the fact of being president alone is already a penalty in itself, for an incumbent who has to give up the comforts of private life and privacy ; to deny himself the luxury of being with family and loved ones and having to carry endlessly while in office the heavy burden of the affairs of the state. This is not to mention the unending calvary and crucifixion of being responsible for almost everything that happens, whether well deserved or not, while in office. I will even venture now to recommend for President Noynoy to start scouting around, this early, for some safe haven abroad to get a much needed break and vacation -- and as a necessary consequence, be temporarily beyond the reach of the law when the end of his term comes. Let those cases be filed against him, if any, but allow the political temperature to settle down so accountability issues are better addressed when the smoke clears. The aura of vindictiveness and political posturing will give way to an honest to goodness search for accountability if such space is allowed. Unfortunately for PGMA, she did not get that space or reprieve that she also deserved. She was made a convenient and hapless "poster girl" of someone's public roadshow against corruption. She was even stopped at the airport on her way to get treatment abroad even while the courts cleared the way for her departure. It was tragic because she was intentionally denied the courtesy, nay the right, by no less than Malacanang itself. Tragically and ironically President Noynoy's own father, Ninoy Aquino had the privilege of getting such space and reprieve when he was allowed to leave the country after being convicted by the military court by a repressive regime under martial law just to get medical treatment in the US. Let me put this straight at the outset. For being my “boss” for all nine years of her administration, I am naturally and obviously sympathetic of former President Gloria. So, take it in this light as I express sadness for what is happening to her -- not so much to elicit sym-pathies from the public as her case will be duly judged by the court and will be based on the facts and evidence and not by any outpouring of sympa-thies or expressions of support -- but just to share some sadness and misgivings on what has befallen of her after nine years of giving her all. I have seen up close somehow how she gave her all. Truth to tell, before 2001 when she assumed as presi-dent to replace resigned former President Erap Estra-da and before she appointed me as head of the Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCO), I barely knew her in person. Yes, she was vice president but I had no occasion whatsoever of meeting her personally. I first met in person her husband Mike Arroyo, then my batchmate at the UP LAW CENTER reviewing for the 1973 bar exams in Manila. I remember we “probinsyanos” merely watched from the sidelines the big-time guys up in the front rows , and Mike Arroyo was one of them . We were taking our positions inside the PICC convention hall to take our lawyers oath when someone said: “Si Gloria Macapagal, si Gloria”. We jostled to get a good peek at a diminutive lady with a towe-ring escort. When I served as Davao congressman during those turbulent , post-martial period with President Cory in Malacañang when military coups were a dime by the dozen, she was a bureaucrat at the Department of Industry? Fast forward to early 2001. I just happened to be in Manila bumming around when my friend, Davaoeno Paul Dominguez ( we both had served former President Ramos taking care of Mindanao for the palace) when I was “recruited” to help in the fast developing events of Edsa 2. When President Erap Estrada took that historic final boat ride across Pasig river leaving Malacanang, I was holed up at the temporary command post in a hotel in Ortigas where Vice President Gloria and her close-in group mulled

... a sense of national responsibility ... a patriotism which is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.

At pumunta nga sila.

“WHEREFORE, on ground of reasonable doubt accused CHRISTEN ALVAREZ INAGAKI a.k.a. JENNYLYN CONTRERAS is hereby ACQUITTED. ” Ito ang dispositive portion ng desisyong ibinaba ng Kagalang-galang na Hukom, Eleuterio Larisma Bathan, Acting Presiding Judge ng Regional Trial Court Branch 5, Lemery, Batangas, kaugnay ng kasong Murder na isinampa laban kay Inagaki at kina Ralph Sarmien-to y Delos Reyes at April Rose Maderazo-Celemin, a.k.a. Avril Maderzo-Celemin.

Tosoc, Angelica Ferrer Wychoco, Atty. Luwie Allan Jimenez and Special Investigator Mario Garcia bilang mga testigo.

Kapwa convicted sina Sarmiento at Maderazo-Celemin. Ganito ang sabi ng korte: “WHEREFORE, premises considered, accused April Rose Celemin Maderazo and Ralph Delos Reyes Sarmiento are hereby found GUILTY beyond reasonable doubt for the crime of Murder punishable under Art. 248 of the Revised Penal Code as amended and is sentenced to suffer the penalty of reclusion perpetua and to pay Fifty Thousand Pesos as civil indemnity and Twenty Five Thousand Pesos as exemplary damages.”

Of sending former Presidents to jail her next moves. I was not part of that “in group”. I just happened to be there courtesy of Paul, although I somehow helped craft some statements and brief messages that speakers in the EDSA Shrine (like Gen. Rene de Villa ) had to dish out from time to time to whip up the already frenzied crowd bent on shooing away the Palace occupant. When President Gloria started looking around to fill in the Mindanao-based MEDCO office, she barely knew me. It was Paul who was her mainstay for everything about Mindanao and I happened to be around with my brief credentials as FVR's pointman for Mindanao for 8 months towards his final months in office. She shook my hand and appointed me MEDCO chair with a rank of undersecretary and concurrent new chair of the government panel negotiating with the MILF. At that time, the peace negotiations were in tatters. Mindanao was still smarting from President

Erap’s massive military offensive and the almost 1 million displaced Mindanaoans were still in evacuation centers. Clearly drawing from her DSWD days, President Gloria rolled up her sleeves and got everyone focused on relief, rehabilitation and eventual return of the evacuees to their homes. And she knew this could not be possible unless the peace process be put back on track again. Barely 3 months after she assumed office, our team was already in Tripoli, Libya signing with the MILF the historic Agreement of Peace which served as a framework agreement for the peace engagements for the next 9 years of her stay in Malacanang.  [Atty. UB got 100% rating in Electrical Engineers Board Exam B

ATANGAS’ learning institutions have once again proved that studying in the province should not be considered as an alternative or a second choice behind the colleges and universities of Metro Manila. This after the University of Batangas and the Batangas State University both proved its worth as universities of choice for its graduates.

Fernando Air Base, communities to host Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia in Lipa PAG-IRIBANG Bikolnon-Devotees of Our Lady of Peñafrancia Association in Lipa City is inviting all Peñafrancia devotees to participate in the activities to welcome and celebrate the 14th visit to Fernando Air Base of the Pilgrim Image of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, a two-day event on September 27-28, 2014 that will allow devotees to relish the same devotion by millions of Filipinos every September in Naga City. Colonel Gerry Zamudio Jr. of the organizing FAB-Lipa Peñafrancia Association revealed that AETC Commander, Major General Raul G. Dimatatac will lead all devotees in welcoming to Lipa City the Pilgrim Image of Our Lady of Peñafrancia in the afternoon of September 27. The annual visit was initiated 14 years ago by Col. Guillermo Molina, President of Pag-iribang Bikolnon to gather all Bicolanos and fellow devotees in supporting the spiritual growth of PAF personnel in Fernando Air Base as well as in communities around Lipa City. It was authorized by the Basilica Minore de Peñafrancia de Naga and has evolved since then to become part of the religious traditions of the FAB community. Molina is now the deputy commander of AETC. The annual visit of the Our Lady of Peñafrancia to Fernando Air Base has made FAB as the only Philippine air base that has become a part of the September visits of the

Pilgrim Image of Our Lady. It is also the focal point of devotion of millions of Marian devotees in Bicolandia. A welcome ceremony or salubong at the main gate of Fernando Air Base will mark the arrival of Our Lady of Peñafrancia in the afternoon of September 27 and will be followed by a procession around the base communities. A fluvial ceremony will kick off the day’s spiritual celebration, to be followed by a mass to be officiated by Fr. Jo Cepe, FAB Chaplain that will also be an anticipated mass for Sunday, novenas, prayers and vigil up to midnight. A pot luck Peñafrancia Fiesta dinner will be held by the devotees at Bulwagang Makulot within the base. It will be an opportunity for the community to renew its faith and to celebrate Ina’s visit, Zamudio said. The recital of the Holy Rosary kicks off the activities at 7:00 o’clock in the morning of Ina’s second day at Fernando Air base, to be followed by a concelebrated AETC Command mass before the 1:00 PM departure honors. Masses and other spiritual celebration, such as novenas, prayers and the vigil will be held at FAB’s Miraculous Medal Chapel. The theme of this year’s visit, Stronger Faith and Safer Flight Through Ina, reflects the Philippine Air Force’s constant call for divine guidance as it guards the Philippine skies, Zamudio said.
