LET᾽S BEGIN

OUR TOUR ... IN

SPAIN

07

08

TAPAS

Tasty appetisers "Tapa" literally means "lid", presumably because Spanish publicans used to place a slice of bread on the wine glass or beer mug to protect the beverage underneath. Over time these "lids" became increasingly tasty in their own right – variously "garnished" with olives, anchovies or cheese – and so became popular appetisers. At these Europa-Park restaurants you can try some typical Andalusian tapas specialities, such as king prawns, meat skewers, grilled courgettes and red peppers, goat’s milk cheese and Serrano ham. Such plentiful and exquisitely prepared Spanish tapas can be a whole lot more than just appetisers.

FRY-UPS

All in a single pot Spanish food is lavish and scrumptious, no doubt about it. And the Spanish are particularly partial to their fry-ups: from paella with fresh seafood and potato-and-egg tortilla española to our fiery meat dish with peppers. Once you’ve acquired a taste for it and you’d like to savour a whole assortment of Mediterranean specialities, opt for the family dish at "Don Quichotte". There is something for everyone, and enough food to satiate Mum, Dad and two growing kids: beefsteaks, turkey piccata, chicken skewers and grilled sausages, Andalusian vegetables, chips and noodle paella.

RESTAURANT : SPANISH

CASTILLO ..HOTEL CASTILLO ALCAZAR..

FEAST LIKE THE KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE The ambiance conjures up the sumptuous feasts of knights of medieval legend. With cast-iron frying pans, ladles and tankards suspended from the ceiling, big lit candles in massive candelabra on solid wood tables for just the right atmosphere, and the reddish stone floor and dark wooden ceiling helping to create a most decidedly medieval ambiance. But what, pray tell, do knights actually eat? Their fare should be hearty and wholesome. Meat skewers, salmon steaks or spicy Chorizo salami, for example, plus how about some root veggies, braised tomatoes or potatoes with rosemary. The dinner buffet at the "Castillo" restaurant offers all that and a whole lot more. Feasting here, by the castle moat, is a true delight!

OPENING HOURS:

Open daily during park season from 6 – 10 pm. 11

12

RESTAURANT : SPANISH

DON QUICHOTTE ..HOTEL EL ANDALUZ..

A QUAINT RESTAURANT WITH PLENTY OF ATMOSPHERE AND SPANISH DELICACIES Who was Don Quixote? That’s right, the "sad-faced knight". Attended by his skinny old horse Rosinante and his sidekick squire Sancho Panza, he fought windmills he mistook for ferocious giants, attacked herds of rams, which he took for a mighty army as they were shrouded in clouds of dust, narrowly survived a "bloody" battle with wineskins containing red wine and much more of the same. All these adventures were parodies of then popular tales of chivalry and derring-do. The à la carte restaurant "Don Quichotte" is by no means a parody, however it is a top-notch Spanish eatery with an Iberian menu ranging from classic paella and tortillas to king prawns in oil, generally served with a bottle of tinto at just the right temperature.

Open daily during park season from 11 am – 10 pm. 13

AGLIO E OLIO The aroma of Italy

Garlic and olive oil are probably the most essential ingredients in Italian cuisine. No Italian mamma worth her salt would dream of cooking without them – and the same goes for any Italian chef. These two natural ingredients impart zest, aroma and fragrance to the food – and they’re very healthy to boot. Spaghetti aglio olio, i.e. spaghetti with garlic and olive oil, often seasoned with spicy pepperoncini and fresh herbs, is a classic Italian dish – and is also available at the restaurant "Medici".

ANTIPASTI

A large assortment of starters A traditional Italian meal comprises several courses: a primo piatto, usually pasta or risotto, and a secondo piatto, often fish or meat. The second course is followed by dolci, i.e. dessert. The first course is preceded by antipasti, i.e. all manner of savoury starters. These appetisers customarily include roasted bruschette, prawn cocktail, and a caprese salad (tomatoes with mozzarella and fresh basil) as well as beef carpaccio, vitello tonnato (cold sliced veal in tuna-flavoured mayonnaise-like sauce) or tomatoes, courgette, aubergine, artichokes and mushrooms traditionally marinated in olive oil. What with all those antipasti to whet your appetite, you’re liable to forget that the main courses have yet to be served!

16

POMODORI

The basis of Italian cuisine Hardly a single self-respecting Italian dish can do without tomatoes. Whether it’s a tasty tomato sauce to put on the pasta, beef tomatoes for soup, dried tomatoes for marinated antipasti, or vine-ripened tomatoes with mozzarella, as pizza topping or for crispy bruschette: without their beloved pomodori there’s virtually nothing doing in Italy, these juicy red fruits are the basis of every dish. So you’ll find pomodori a-plenty in loads of dishes, naturalmente, at the restaurants "Medici", "Antica Roma" and "Cesare".

PASTA

Durum al dente Pasta is made from the unleavened dough of durum wheat semolina, cooking salt and water. It comes in a huge variety of shapes and sizes, including thin spaghetti, wide tagliatelle, smooth or furrowed cylindricallyshaped penne, filled cannelloni, butterflyshaped farfalle and much, much more. But how do you make the perfect pasta? First you boil a pot of water, add salt, then the noodles. Don’t add oil, which prevents the noodles from properly absorbing the sauce later on. Remove the pot while the pasta is still al dente, firm and chewy but not hard. Pour off water – and let the noodles simmer just a little longer. Add sauce and basta, you’re done.

RESTAURANT : ITALIAN

ANTICA ROMA ..HOTEL COLOSSEO..

HOT AND COLD GOURMET BUFFET ALL’ITALIANA ANTICA At the "Antica Roma", you can feast like a denizen of ancient Rome: between the pillars of this elegant vaulted cellar, with drawings of heroic chariot races on the walls and a fire crackling in the stone fireplace adorned with a laurel wreath. On sunny days opt for outdoor seating on the Piazza Roma for Mediterranean ambiance in abundance. You’ll be regaled here with a hot and cold gourmet buffet of Italian cuisine. The assortment ranges from Italian country ham, spicy Milanese salami and market-fresh green salads to seasonal fish and meat specialities. For dessert you can choose between delectable pastries and an assortment of Italian cheeses with fig mustard and grapes. Every bit as authentic and tasty (!) as in old Rome.

FEAST LIKE A ROMAN EMPEROR – ON ONLY THE BEST FARE FROM KITCHEN, CELLAR AND GARDEN "Cesare" wines and dines its patrons in style here in the Roman Via Veneto. Pleased customers are seated on round or long tables decked out in white tablecloths, with cream-coloured curtains on the floor-to-ceiling bow windows, a woodpanelled coffered ceiling, and paintings and busts of Caesar himself on the walls gazing down. The à la carte menu at "Cesare" features only the best fare: fresh herbs, crisp vegetables, Grade A meat, choice fish and homemade pasta. Plus a selection of top-shelf Italian and international wines. So you see: these imperial pleasures of the palate are not reserved for the emperor and his generals – they’re for the likes of you, too!

MEDICI ..HOTEL COLOSSEO..

ROMANTIC DINING IN A LAVISH SETTING The Medici family were one of the wealthiest and most influential dynasties of 15th and 16th-century Florence – and great patrons of the arts and architecture, backing such Renaissance greats as Michelangelo, Sandro Botticelli and Leonardo da Vinci. The sublime old Italian paintings at the à la carte restaurant "Medici " will immediately catch your eye and hold your gaze. The whole décor, with chandeliers suspended from the high ceilings, white cloth napkins, dimmed lighting and twinkling candlelight makes for a very tasteful and romantic dining experience. The upscale gourmet menu features dishes like marinated slices of sirloin on rocket or caprese salad with genuine buffalo mozzarella. Now does that whet your appetite?

DIM SUM Choice morsels

Dim Sum literally means "touch the heart", i.e. food that not only fills the belly, but even makes you happy. Dim sum are generally steamed or deep-fried bite-sized dumplings, a mainstay of Cantonese cuisine. These choice morsels are traditionally served in little bamboo baskets. Fillings range from meat, fish and shellfish to eggs and even sweet desserts. Feel free to season your dim sum with soy sauce or spicier condiments. So you can please your palate, fill your stomach and "touch your heart" all at once at our "Harborside" restaurant.

BACALHAU

Toothsome dried, salted cod The Portuguese are particularly proud of their national dish, bacalhau, which they take pains to cure according to a very special method: the cod is dried for about 150 days – by nothing but the wind and sun – and rubbed down with pure sea salt. The bacalhau is then eaten raw, marinated, grilled or boiled and there are countless ways to prepare the dish; according to a popular saying, in fact, there are 365 different recipes, one for every day of the year – a number of which you can savour at the restaurant "Sala Santa Isabel".

26

SUCCULENT GRILLED SPECIALITIES Meat, fish and vegetables

What’s best: rare, medium or well done? Well, that’s a matter of opinion, of course. Which meat tastes best grilled: beef, pork, turkey, salmon or tuna? Again, that’s a matter of personal taste. So at our "Sala Santa Isabel" and "Harborside" restaurants, you decide what to throw on the Mongolian or lava stone grill – and how long to let it sizzle. You can also choose from among a wide assortment of side dishes. All you need is a partiality for that special smoky flavour of grilled foods.

SEAFOOD

Fresh from the ocean Seafood enriches culinary cultures of the world. Whether it’s spaghetti vongole or pizza frutti di mare, clam chowder, bouillabaisse or fish paella. But what does seafood include besides fish, of course? Well, mussels, squid and octopus, crab, prawns and crayfish, lobster and oysters – to name just a few of the delicacies to be had fresh from the sea and onto your plate at our restaurants. What delectable dishes do we cook up with that fresh seafood? Take your pick at our multicultural restaurants at Europa-Park, you’ll be delighted.

BEER CELLAR : MULTICULTURAL

BEER CELL AR ..HOTEL SANTA ISABEL .

ENJOY BEER AND FONDUE IN THE COSY MONASTIC VAULTS To make the Lenten season, during which they had to fast from dawn to dusk, a little more bearable, some ingenious abbots concocted a brand of strong, filling beer to keep their hungry stomachs from rumbling too much during the day. You, too, can try out this coping strategy for "Lent fasting" down in the cosy monastic vaults of the "Beer Cellar" at Hotel "Santa Isabel". The cellar even has its very own special house brew, which the "serving monks" will be glad to bring you in an old-fashioned earthenware mug. And if you’re still peckish after this liquid food, we recommend our meat or fish fondue. If this be fasting fare, then may Lent last a good deal longer!

HAUTE CUISINE First-class dining

The term "haute cuisine" was coined in 19thcentury France. Indeed, for centuries French cooking has been regarded as the paragon of Western cuisine. And it still enjoys an excellent reputation in gourmet gastronomy today. Haute cuisine doesn’t necessarily mean French food, but it does have to meet certain culinary standards. The golden rule is always to use choice produce fresh from the market. Haute cuisine is about inspired, highly professional and creative cooking, with painstaking devotion to detail in the perfect preparation, arrangement and serving of food – and of course the right wines to go with it

THE ART OF COOKERY Pleasure – Done to a turn

Cookery is the art of turning produce into tasty and attractive dishes. So much for the bare-bones definition. But the real art of cooking actually involves a whole lot more. Peter Hagen, head chef at the "Ammolite", cultivates an eclecticallyinspired classic-style cuisine that combines and interprets familiar and unfamiliar foods alike in a distinctive way. He always accords the utmost respect to his main ingredients, bringing out their quintessential character by selecting appropriate accompaniment. His watchwords are freshness and lightness, harmony and finesse, and his culinary productions are sheer gustatory delights.

Since November 2013 it also holds a Michelin star as the first theme park restaurant worldwide and a top rating from Gault Millau with 16 out of 20 points! Chef Peter Hagen captures every gourmet’s heart with his international cuisine that doesn’t lose touch with the regional fare. Restaurant manager Marco Gerlach will make sure to suggest the best suitable wine to go with it. We are excited to have created a special place with a gourmet cuisine and unique interior which makes the perfect setting for special events and extraordinary guests.

CONFECTIONERY Sweets, cakes and pastries

Quality confectionery ranges from elaborately handmade cakes and pies to chocolates and petit fours, patisserie and ice cream. The Italians are particularly partial to confectionery, as are the British, too. Italians enjoy gelati and pastries with a cappuccino, while the British are steadfastly attached to their scones with afternoon tea. Our café "Commedia dell’Arte" and bar "Spirit of St. Louis" will make both nationals happy – along with everyone else who appreciates sweet baked delicacies from our house pâtisserie.

BARISTA Coffee artist

The barista originated in bella Italia – where else than in the land of espresso, cappuccino and hot lattes? As a coffee artist by trade, the barista’s job is to prepare the coveted caffeinated beverage professionally. What does he need to know? A great deal: coffee varieties, roasts, how to operate and maintain espresso machines, how to foam up milk correctly and a whole lot more. A perfect barista has also mastered the art of making a good latte, i.e. creating swirling brown and white paintings as he pours the frothed milk into an espresso or cappuccino.

50

DRINKS

Cocktails, whisky, rum and wine Mixing toothsome cocktails is an art, as is recommending the right whisky or wine to suit each guest’s taste. The bartenders and waiting staff at Europa-Park’s bars look forward to regaling you with a demonstration of their well-honed skills, whether you opt for a perfectly mixed rum cocktail, a Flying Kangaroo, a well-cooled gin & tonic, our daily specials or a tasty non-alcoholic mixed drink. Or go in for a whisky-tasting session with an expert to discover the fascination of this legendary spirit. Then it’s bottoms up and down the hatch!

CIGARS

Cohibas & Co. The global spread of the cigar goes back to the Colonial era. In the 18th century, British seamen brought this Cuban export to the East Coast of North America, where the pilgrim fathers took a shine to its pungent aroma. To this day, smoking a cigar is still something of a private ceremony that’s usually done in style. Premium brands like Cohiba, Montecristo and Romeo y Julieta still come from Cuba. But you don’t need to fly to the Caribbean or the East Coast of the US to smoke them, now that the bar "Spirit of St. Louis" brings the amenities of life in New England to Germany’s very own Europa-Park.
