Pensacola’s favorite type of wedding a beach wedding! We wish these two couples, and all of our couples who submitted to the contest, a long and happy married life!
How is it August already?
Congratulations. If you’re reading this first 2021 issue of Pensacola Magazine, it means you have survived 2020, which is no small feat considering the barrage of pain, anxiety, divisiveness, uncertainty, loss and loneliness that 2020 brought to bear on the entire planet. Many have lost their lives, their loved ones, their jobs—one after another, the hits just kept coming. And here we are—on the other side, at least in terms of the Gregorian calendar. What will change in 2021? A lot? A little? We have multiple vaccines that we hope will eventually reign in the coronavirus, put the country back to work and allow for some semblance of social normalcy. When we can freely visit again, how will our lives be different? What has 2020 taught us? How has it changed us? I suspect it will take time to unpack all of the physical, mental and emotional impacts of 2020, but I hope time will heal us and that we are able to grow in positive ways from our individual and collective experiences. In 2021, I’m foregoing the traditional resolutions with specific, measurable outcomes. Instead, I am hoping to turn my energy and focus to a few of the themes that 2020 brought to forefront. No expectations. No stress.
Editor’s Note
How is it still 2020? These two questions may seem contradictory, but I can assure you I am feeling them both equally— and I don’t think I am alone.
This year is just too much. All of it—the politics, the pandemic, the pundits. I’m over it. So, this month we chose to focus on a much more relaxing and playful “P” word: Pets. Who doesn’t go all gooey inside over an adorable kitten or a playful pup? Only the most heartless among us, I suspect.
Relationships
Losing my mom early in 2020 really brought home the idea that time is a limited resource. We have this moment and the future is always uncertain. In 2021, I hope to give more attention to my relationships with family, friends and community.
Health
Good morning, Pensacola! What a strange place we find ourselves in this spring. The novel coronavirus COVID-19 has arrived in our community and, although we have so far been luckier than many, the fight to keep it from spreading continues. We went to print with this issue on March 30. At that time, Escambia County had 42 confirmed cases and Santa Rosa had 30. Those numbers rose quickly once testing was expanded. Too quickly. The fact is, we don’t know who might have the virus or be carrying the virus without symptoms. That is why it is essential that we, as a community, stay home as much as humanly possible--leaving only for absolute essentials. I like the idea, too, of practicing physical distancing rather than social distancing. We can remain social via many avenues in this modern world—phone calls, texts, video calls—and I encourage everyone to stay connected to their tribe. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring and we all need to feel connected to something or someone in order to get through this.
Adoptions are on the rise during the pandemic and it’s easy to see why. Pets alleviate the stress, boredom and loneliness of social distancing and uncertain futures. There may be many things out of our control in 2020, but we can provide a loving home to a sweet pet and get more love than we could have imagined in return.
Once again, spring has sprung and the wedding season has begun! Marked by warm, sunny days, flowers in bloom, and a general sense of optimism and renewal, spring has always been a favorite time of year for saying, “I do.” In Pensacola, the spring wedding season also marks Pensacola Magazine’s annual Weddings Cover Contest. Each year, we give the cover of our wedding magazine away to a local bride or couple as our way of celebrating all of the beautiful couples in our community who decided to take the leap into marital bliss. Although every submission was wonderful and every bride was beautiful, we chose Lindsay and Ben Ishee as our 2024 Cover Contest winners. We loved the radiant joy, playfulness and bright pops of color in this image. To us, it reflects what a wedding should really be about love, joy and laughter with a pop of personality. Lindsay, Ben and their wedding photographer Melissa Wilson really captured that natural sense of joy. Congratulations to the couple! We wish you a lifetime of happiness!
While the Pensacola Humane Society has had great success with adoptions and fostering this year, those who love animals know that the shelters are never empty. There is always a pet in need, so if snuggling up to a sweet kitty or playing fetch with a playful pup sounds like a good way to pass some time, check out our adoptable pet profiles on page 34.
While we have always heard that good health is our most valuable asset, 2020 made sure we knew it.
We’ve got some feel-good pet stories for our readers as well. Gina Castro met with some
On the topic of physical distancing, in our COVID-19 resource guide, you will see that Pensacola neighborhoods and community groups have found several clever, unique and safe ways to stay connected and to make a difference while practicing physical distancing. I must say, I am very impressed with the outpouring of love and support I have seen amongst my fellow Pensacolians—yeah, the toilet paper hoarding was weird, but there are more than enough people giving of themselves to make up for it. Can I get a big round of applause for our
Our two runners up submitted really gorgeous photos as well. We loved Rebba and Ezra Merritt’s lush green backdrop and Rebba’s brilliant smile. Caroline and Matthew Ritter’s submission was a soft, ethereal take on
Obesity, diabetes and heart disease became death sentences for too many people battling Covid. While genetics predispose some to these illnesses, many can be managed or eradicated by lifestyle changes. I’d like to focus on making healthy choices while still enjoying the bad-for-you good stuff in moderation.

first responders and hospital workers? Thank you for putting yourselves on the front lines to keep us as safe as possible. We appreciate you!
incredible special-needs pets and owners and she discovered that while these precious babies may take a little more care, the love they give in return is worth every second.
I don’t know about you, but 2020 offered far too little of either of these to me. I was so consumed with my mom’s illness and then with surviving the grief of her loss and the anxiety of the pandemic and the sorrow of so many national news stories that I took little time for myself. This year, I hope to explore creative and personal endeavors that help me rediscover myself and discover new outlets for personal expression.
While our cover contest is usually the star of the show, the rest of the issue is wonderful as well. Inside, you will find great articles and tips on what to wear, what to eat and how to ask your bridesmaids and groomsmen to be a part of your special day. Plus, our annual wedding venue list brings you the best of the best locations for weddings in the Pensacola area. And don’t forget our Ultimate Wedding Directory a listing of all the best wedding vendors in town. It's everything you need to plan the wedding of your dreams.
If exotic animals are more your thing, head on over to the brand spanking new and significantly enlarged Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. The new location features all the hands-on, up close interaction as the previous location plus added attractions, amenities and experiences that will make for a wonderful family day out.
Procrastination
On that note, I encourage you to read our COVID-19 Resource Guide, which provides resources for food, business, community and more. The ever-changing nature of this crisis necessitates that I mention that these resources may or may not be available to you by the time you read this issue. I hope it will provide a place to start, some ideas or some inspiration either way.
If you’re interested in conservation, check out Dakota Parks story on local Panhandle Rooftop Nesting Biologist, Rebekah Snyder. Through her work with Audubon Florida, Snyder helps to ensure local shorebirds have safe nesting spaces in an increasingly overpopulated region.
You may also notice that we have some nonpandemic related stories in this issue. We made the call to include already planned articles that might still be helpful, relevant or enjoyable for our readers. We hope you find them useful.
All of this, plus a few DIY pet treat recipes and some good news from the Florida legislature regarding protection for pets in abusive situations.
While many people made glorious headway on home improvement and personal projects in 2020, I did not. I did not organize anything. I did not fix anything. I did not learn a language or a new skill. Nothing. But that’s ok, too. I’m still here. That’s an accomplishment. However, in 2021, I’d like to lighten my load and empty my house of much of the clutter and unnecessary junk that fills it. It’s time to make room for something new.
Speaking of dream weddings, a group of talented local wedding planners and vendors put together the most gorgeous styled shoot for this issue. Inspired by the Pantone color of the year, Peach Fuzz, and Pensacola’s newest wedding venue, The Sanctuary, Pretty in Peach is a stunning garden-esque, Regencyera concept that radiates warmth and amplifies a sense of connection, closeness and timeless love. We hope you enjoy it and that it gives you plenty of inspiration as you plan your celebration of love!
As for us, Pensacola Magazine has been published under one title or another for more than 40 years. We have no plans on changing that. We will continue to publish and to bring you all the information we can for as long as we can. Please reach out to us with story ideas, inspiration or just a quick hello. We are all working from home and we are missing our water cooler conversations.
So, turn off the news, put down your phone and enjoy these heartwarming tales and adorable of photos of local animals and the folks who care for them. When you’re done, give your kitty a little catnip and throw your dog a bone. It’s these simple pleasures that will keep us all sane.
In this issue, we’ve covered all of these topics and more to help readers shift their own focus in 2021. We hope you enjoy. Here’s to your health!
As always, I hope you enjoy the issue. Happy Spring!
Stay safe, stay healthy and stay strong, Pensacola!

COVER CONTEST WINNER
Lindsay & Ben Ishee
Wedding Date: January 28, 2023
Photography: Melissa Wilson Photography
When/how did you meet?
We met at a crawfish boil at the Ishee’s neighbors house. I apparently ate cake off his plate but I don't recall that detail.
Tell me about your engagement.
It was nine months and my best friends did so much for me! They planned an amazing bachelorette trip to Destin and Ben went camping with his guy friends.
Where did you get married?
Supposey Warehouse and Gardens. They are the best in the biz. The owner (Chloe) and I have been friends since childhood.
What was the theme of your wedding— colors, style, and special details?
It was very colorful. I wanted to get married in January because it's too hot here in the summer, but I wanted it to be full of color, lights, and pink!
Chloe with Supposey made sure I had twinkling lights a beautiful black and white dance floor, colorful glassware and flowers at every table! I loved it.
What was your favorite aspect of your wedding?
Our favorite part was the venue and how much detail Chloe and her team put into making it a perfect day.
What local vendors did you use?
• Kendra Kay hair and makeup
• DJ Chi!
• Sonnys BBQ
• Supposey Venue and Flowers
• Melissa Wilson Photography
They were all incredible vendors. I love them so much, and I am so grateful for everything they did for me. Tell us about your honeymoon.
We went skiing in the Swiss Alps. We took a train to Zermatt, Switzerland and spent a week there, and then we took a train to Paris. It was incredible, and I spent my 30th birthday under the Eiffel tower sipping champagne and eating escargot.
What advice do you have for newly engaged couples to help ensure a spectacular wedding day?
Hire the best vendors and don't sweat the small stuff. Have fun!

RUNNERS UP
Rebba and Ezra Merritt
Wedding Date: October 21, 2023
Photographer: Phocus and Company
Ezra and Rebba met in high school when Ezra transferred to Woodham High School in 2000.
Ezra was two years Rebba’s senior, but they became fast friends when they met through mutual acquaintances. For twenty years, they remained platonic friends—even meeting each other's significant others. Rebba would tell Ezra about the type of woman she thought he needed—and even tried to hook him up with friends of hers—naive to the fact that she was describing herself all along.
As fate would have it, in 2020 Ezra was stationed back home in Pensacola and the two friends quickly made plans to start hanging out. The friendship quickly blossomed into a relationship after Ezra volunteered to bartend at
Rebba’s promotion party. They both profess that this is the day that the veil was lifted and the sparks flew.
After a couple of years of dating, a trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee was planned for Rebba’s birthday where some good friends helped Ezra plan his proposal. The proposal was under the guise of a couple’s photoshoot. While escorted outside to take some pictures, friends worked together to set up the inside of the house. Upon their return to the house, there was a beautiful set up with rose petals and flowers. Their song was playing and there was a sign that read “Rebba, I Want All of You Forever.” Ezra provided one of the most heartfelt proposals one could imagine.
Caroline and Matthew Ritter
Wedding Date: October 14, 2023
Photographer: Aislinn Kate Weddings
When/how did you meet?
Matt and I are high school sweethearts! Matt and I became best friends during sophomore year at Gulf Breeze High School. I believe Matt and I have been so steady over the years because we have been best friends since the beginning. We have similar hobbies and interests with most of them involving time spent on the water. Today, Matt is a nurse anesthetist at Sacred Heart Hospital and I am a ceramic artist and the ceramics instructor/ceramics studio supervisor at the University of West Florida.
Tell me about your engagement.
Matt proposed to me in Sanibel, FL. We had fun collecting seashells and fishing during the
day and later that night before dinner, Matt took me on the beach and proposed to me near the sand dunes. Matt did such a good job; I was completely taken by surprise! Matt designed my engagement ring with a jeweler that happens to be a family friend. He designed the ring to have two matching, delicate light blue Montana sapphires on each side of the center diamond. The small touch of blue on each side represents our shared love for the water.
Where did you get married?
We got married here in our hometown, Pensacola, at Old Christ Church and held our Reception at 5Eleven Palafox on October 14, 2023.
Eight months later, at the Museum of Commerce, the two became one with the help of amazing local vendors including Phocus & Company (photography and videography), Tempest A'sia Knox (MUA), The Salon (Hair), GQ QUEsine (Catering), Nouveau Pastries and Catering (Cake), Jeweler's Trade Shop (jeweler), Okevia Carter (Decorations), Johnny Denis (DJ) and Tap the Coast (bartending).
The night went off without a hitch starting with personalized vows and a heartfelt blessing from all attendees, a nostalgic nacho bar, a finger-licking BBQ feast, three flavors of cake, an open bar, dancing, a photo booth, Garrett’s Popcorn and pictures galore. The couple then retreated to a secluded cabin in the woods (The Pine
House) for their intimate mini honeymoon. The love they share, established on a foundation of friendship and centered around God, has been expressed by both of them to be above and beyond what they could have ever asked or prayed for.
What was the theme of your wedding—colors, style and special details?
Our coastal and classic wedding design consisted of light blue and gold accents, iridescent seashells, handmade ceramic vases and lush white and blue florals. The summer before our wedding, I created around twenty opalescent white vases each adorned with seashells. Each wheel thrown vase had a unique, hand-sculpted seashell on it. The vases were displayed on the guest tables with bouquets consisting of lush greens, whites and hints of blues. The vases were given as heirloom gifts to our family and friends that were in the wedding.
What was your favorite aspect of your wedding?
A few of my favorite aspects of the wedding was the moment that Matt saw me for the first time as a bride during our first look before the ceremony. After some tears were shed, we both shared a laugh reading love notes from high school. Another special moment was the short, sweet moment I had with my father before he walked me down the aisle.

"she gave me my life back!"
Local clinic has a solution to help treat your Peripheral Neuropathy and is seeing incredible results!
“It started out as a normal outing. My wife and I had to run to the grocery store. We were driving down the road casually going over our shopping list when the car ahead of me started to slow down anticipating the yellow light. I started to move my foot from the gas to the brake as any normal person would do when they see brake lights in front of them but I couldn’t feel my foot. The car kept moving forward and I just couldn’t get my foot on the brake. And CRUNCH! I finally came to a stop when I hit the car in front of me.”
"Depending on the severity of their nerve damage, we typically see tremendous progress in 3-4 months of treatment. I like to say we’re in the business of making your golden years golden."
This tragic story was shared with us by John S, a Pensacola area resident who has peripheral neuropathy. While no one was hurt in this accident, John S. had suffered almost everyday of his life with tingling and burning in his feet until numbness set it. Then he could no longer feel the brake pedal beneath his foot
“Typically, the first stage is pain,” shares Dr. Rebecca Gibbons of AWP| Acupuncture & Wellness of Pensacola. “You feel burning, tingling, sharp pains, or you feel like you’re walking on tacks or marbles. This pain eventually subsides and the numbness sets in. Unfortunately the numbness brings with it a whole other host of problems. "
It is terribly common that peripheral neuropathy and its debilitating symptoms interfere with a person’s ability to live their life John was reliant on his wife to drive him around, even the simple pleasure of cruising down HWY 98 or taking her out to dinner was outside his capabilities. Even more common, John's general practitioner and several specialists told him that there was nothing they could do other than prescribe him pills to ease the pain of his neuropathy
That’s where Dr. Gibbons and her staff at AWP come in. “About 75% of our current patients come to us suffering from the same condition as John,” tells Dr. Gibbons. "They’re in constant pain from neuropathy and it prevents them from not only living their lives but more importantly, it prevents them from enjoying it."
"I can't lie," admits John "I was skeptical at first but I had run out of options. Nothing else was helping. But after about four months into treatment, I was confidently able to drive myself to Publix and to my appointments. Dr. Gibbons gave me my life back."
While AWP specializes in acupuncture and it's definitely part of their protocols in treating neuropathy, another secret is a more modern medical solution called ATP Resonance BioTherapy™. This technology was originally developed by NASA to expedite healing and recovery,” shares Dr. Gibbons. “It’s like watering a plant. ATP Resonance BioTherapy™ and acupuncture stimulate the blood vessels to grow back around the peripheral nerves and provide them the proper nutrients to heal and repair.”
Dr Gibbons and her staff specialize in treating chronic pain, complicated neurological conditions, digestive disorders and autoimmune diseases.
For more information about Dr. Gibbons and what she treats, visit WWW.AWPENSACOLA.COM or call 850-530-1028 today to schedule your consultation.
Wedding Party Proposals
Fun Ways to Pop the Question to Your “I Do” Crew
by Morgan Cole
You're engaged! Now it's time to plan a proposal of your own. Deciding who you want to include in your wedding party is only half the challenge—you also have to let them know they're officially invited to your big day. A bridesmaid or groomsman proposal is a fun way to ask your friends to be by your side, and an excuse to treat them to special gifts that honor the occasion. Even if they're already anticipating being asked, a wedding party proposal is a thoughtful gesture to show your loved ones just how much you care, especially when asking them to take on this meaningful role.
Whether you’re planning to pop a bottle of bubbly and ask them in person or send them something in the mail, proposing to the members of your wedding party can be an exciting and creative experience—and finding the perfect gift to go along with your proposal is just part of the fun. From curated gift boxes filled with their favorite things and personalized bonus goodies to thoughtful keepsake items, here are some of our favorite wedding party proposal gifts that are sure to have them saying, “I do.”
Bridesmaid Knot Earrings
Both literal and sentimental, these "tie the knot" earrings are subtle enough to work with every bridesmaids’ personal style and taste and are as apt for the office as they are the aisle. The love knot design symbolizes both friendship and commitment and comes in sterling silver or gold-filled to match each member of your squad's accessory style. You can shop for a large assortment of love knot earrings on Etsy that include pre-written bridesmaid proposal messages for around $10 to $30 each, depending on your budget.
Custom M&M'S

Savor the Moment Curating the Perfect Wedding Menu
by Nicole Willis
Food is one of the most important elements of one’s wedding day. As an expression of culture, love and joy, it's no wonder sharing a meal has become a staple part of a wedding day celebration. With so many types of cuisines and meal options out there, deciding on the perfect wedding day menu can sometimes be a daunting task. To bring you some delicious inspiration, we have consulted with local caterers to see what wedding food trends are stealing the hearts of couples along the Gulf Coast in 2024.
Buffets & Food Bars
If you search “wedding food” on Pinterest, you’re bound to come across photos of elaborate table spreads, beautiful grazing boards and customizable self-serve bars. Buffetstyle dining and interactive food bars allow guests to get all of what they like, and nothing that they don’t.
In recent years, buffet-style dining at weddings has become increasingly popular due to its casual and customizable nature. “In my experience, most people lean towards a buffet service here in Pensacola. This option allows your guests to have more selections to choose from,” Events Manager for Great Southern Events Kady Reeves said.
Buffet-style food service is a change from the traditional plated wedding meals of the past. “Buffets and [interactive] stations are very popular, even more so than plated. Really since the end of the pandemic, people seem to crave those opportunities for buffets, which is a shift from the traditional
sit-down plated meal that was the most popular option for a long time,” Owner and Executive Chef of Nancy's Catering & Events and Agapi Bistro + Garden Gus Silvos said.
The self-serve nature of buffet-style dining can be taken up a notch with food bars. Food bars allow guests to customize their plates to exactly their taste. Guests can start with a base and then layer on all the toppings, seasonings and sauces that they desire. With so many options, food bars are sure to satisfy every guest— whether they like their plate plain jane or piled high with fixins. From macaroni and cheese bars with bacon bits, cheese and breadcrumbs, to grits bars with shrimp, grilled veggies and cream sauce, there are a multitude of options for food bar bases and toppings. “Grits bars are always popular, and we're seeing that even more so now. Again, I think it harks back to the comfort food that people have been seeking. Who doesn't love a grits bar with all the toppings?” Silivos added.

Choices & Variety
Wedding menus are becoming more and more unique with fun flavors, different types of cuisine and multiple entrée options. Today, couples are opting for a variety of food choices rather than a small, fixed menu. With so many amazing catering options available today, you can have your cake and eat it, too.
Like the uniqueness of the special bond between you and your spouse, your wedding menu should reflect your unique tastes and personalities. Make your mealtime memorable with your favorite foods. Whether you want to pay homage to your ethnic heritage and serve up culturally traditional food or get quirky by putting an adult spin on some of your childhood comfort foods, there are so many ways to incorporate your food faves into your big day. “Couples seem to love comfort food and ethnic cuisine, which is definitely another shift from the traditional style I've seen over the years,” Silivos explained.
In addition to variety in the types of cuisine that couples are choosing, many are also opting for variety in the protein options on their menu. Personal preferences and dietary restrictions may be considered when selecting the main courses of the night. “All my brides like to have variety. I would say most lean towards three protein options—steak, chicken and seafood,” Reeves explained. Along the same lines, General Manager of The District, Lisa Benson, said that “most couples that I’ve been meeting with are definitely leaning toward surf and turf.”
As plant-based and health-conscious eating has become more popular, some couples are serving plant-based entrees, as well. “Plant-based options are more and more popular, whether it's exclusively a vegan menu or just making sure those options are on the menu,” Silivos explained. Even if you are not vegan or vegetarian, plantbased options can tend to be on the healthier side, which is perfect for anyone wanting to eat healthy. “In terms of food service, I believe people want to see more healthy choices,” Benson said.

Continue the Culinary Celebration
Who says the celebration has to be confined to one evening? Today, many couples are opting to celebrate their love for longer than the few hours of the ceremony and reception. It is common for couples to host pre- and postnuptial festivities for those closest to them. Some of the ways that couples are extending the celebration include welcome parties on the day before the wedding, day-of pre-ceremony drinks and postnuptial brunches the morning after the big day. An important element of any celebration or event is, of course, food!
To kick off the wedding festivities early, consider hosting a welcome party! Traditionally, rehearsal dinners are the primary festivities held the day before the wedding, however, welcome parties are now playing a part in the day, too. Welcome parties differ from rehearsal dinners in the way that rehearsal dinners are typically reserved for those in the wedding party or close family and friends, but welcome parties usually include everyone invited to the wedding. Welcome parties also tend to be more casual celebrations for socialization and fun.
“The new 'trend' these days is to do a Welcome Party for guests the night before the wedding. Dessert spreads are very popular at these events,” Reeves said.
Pre-wedding libations and finger foods are a popular choice for a treat on the wedding day. Upon arrival at the venue, guests can sip on a beverage and enjoy small bites before the ceremony begins. Silivos has implemented this trend locally. “We had a local artisan, Kasia Szabo, create a beautiful champagne wall for weddings we host in the Agapi Garden, and it's one of our most popular requests! A full wall of champagne flutes filled up to greet guests when they arrive is a great way to start a celebration,” he said.
After a fun day of festivities, celebrating and partying—let’s face it—many are going to be hungover and exhausted! What better remedy than a delicious spread of hearty brunch foods? Consider treating your closest friends and family to a delicious (and sobering) brunch to end your weekend of wedding fun.

Here Comes the Bride! 2024 Wedding Dress Trends
by Jenny Diamond
Warmer weather and longer daylight hours make spring the peak wedding season in Pensacola. The brightness, warmth and flora of springtime creates the perfect backdrop for gorgeous outdoor ceremonies and receptions spent dancing under the stars. Though the culmination of a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception is the result of months of tedious planning on the part of the couple, the wedding party and their families. For many brides, one aspect looms ahead of the others—finding the perfect wedding dress. Whether it be simple and understated, beaded or embellished, flowing or tea-length, lacy or sheer, every bride deserves to find a dress that suits her style and body and helps her feel beautiful on her special day. Luckily, Pensacola boasts several local bridal shops that cater to clients of all styles, sizes and budgets.
One option for local brides is the Bridal Suite located on E. 9 Mile Road. The Bridal Suite operates in conjunction with Gent’s Formal Wear, which is located right next door. Some of the shop’s featured designers include Allure Bridals, Casablanca Bridals, Maggie Sotero, Rebecca Ingram, Sottero and Midgely and Wilderly Bride. Bridal Suite representative Madison Setliss details several trends for 2024 brides. “Anything with bows is trending right now, as are whimsical gowns with floral detailing and appliques,” she said. Stetliss also notes that brides might consider detachable elements that vary both the look and function of the dress between the ceremony and the reception. “Off-the-shoulder sleeves that puff at the forearm are popular now and the sleeves can be detached so a bride is able to move more easily and not get so warm on the dancefloor,” she said.
Brides looking for something a little less traditional might prefer a two-piece suit. Custom bridal suits have become a popular trend for 2024. For the perfect style and fit, brides can work with various local suit companies such as Gent’s. Mac Miller, a tuxedo and suiting specialist for

Gent’s, explained that the current trends in men’s suit styles are largely influenced by the trends of women’s styles. For instance, one of the season’s most popular colors for men’s accessories like bowties and pocket squares is Barbie pink, largely due to the popularity of Greta Gerwig’s titular film. Miller also noted that some grooms are moving away from the classic black tuxedo and opting for more colorful suits in shades of blue, tan or cream, often with copper accents or ties boasting wildflowers and vibrant colors. As for the fit, Mac notes the recent popularity of slim-fit suits for all body types. “You don’t have to necessarily be a slim person to look great in a slim-fit suit. Grooms of all sizes are really happy with that fit,” he said. There is a second Gent’s Formal Wear located in downtown Pensacola. Though each branch of the franchise is separately owned, the two locations often work with one another to supplement sizes and options.
Another local shop brides might consider is The Bridal Loft located on Bayou Boulevard in Pensacola. The shop has been in business for more than twenty years, and was purchased by new owner Alyssa Gryb in late 2022. Two of the top wedding fashion trends that Gryb has been seeing a lot of in 2024 are somewhat opposite of each other. One popular trend is a very simple and minimalist dress with accents or details that showcase the bride’s individuality: a bow, a brightly colored shoe or a sequence of pearls. The other trend is regality, or modern adaptations of a pre-Victorian aesthetic. The Bridal Loft is the only local store to carry the official Bridgerton wedding dress line, which features styles ranging from the debutant look you see worn by the Bridgerton daughters, all the way to the glam and opulence of Queen Charlotte’s attire. The Bridgerton line embraces squared necklines, puffed sleeves, tiaras, large ballgowns and more. Modern brides are also embracing veils, which Gryb notes can be a really fun, individualized accessory. She often sees brides who want to incorporate a swatch of lace or trim from their mother’s or grandmother’s wedding dress, so veils are a great way to incorporate a bit of generational sentiment.
Out of all the many different styles and options offered at The Bridal Loft, none are more special to Gryb than the shop’s Dare line. Dare is Bridal Loft’s signature branded

line and each of the designs are exclusive to shop. Every detail, including the name of the dress line itself, was chosen with daring women in mind. “As we were getting ready to launch the brand, I started reflecting personally. I came up with the name Dare because it’s so encompassing and can be related to all women,” Gryb explained. “The name derives from my abuelita, who came to this country as a single mother and wanted to provide the best opportunities for her children. It also relates to my own endeavor of jumping in and pursuing my passion by purchasing the bridal shop. It’s also for the brides; falling in love and committing to their person can be a very daring experience, and we ask our brides to take a leap of faith with us as well.” The Dare line features ethically made, European-style couture gowns. A portion of the proceeds from each dress that is sold is donated directly to Favor House, which provides services for victims of domestic violence throughout Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. “I wanted to align our shop with a local nonprofit, and as a bridal store, we celebrate love and healthy relationships. The women who are able to flee abusive situations are certainly daring and taking a bold bet on themselves,” Gryb said.
Each wedding, each woman and each bride is different–and all are special and worthy of celebrating. To all of you currently planning a wedding and searching for that special dress, sincere congratulations. May you feel beautiful, confident and surrounded by love on your wedding day!

Wedding Website 101
Keep Your Guests Well Informed
by Macky Vellon
When faced with questions regarding an upcoming wedding, more often than not, guests are now looking to wedding websites for answers. Instead of calling the couple directly for more information, many people now have the initial thought to look online, which is great! Endless calls and questions regarding basic wedding information can become overwhelming. So, if you haven’t already thought about this helpful detail, consider creating a website where your family and friends can go to find all relevant information in a one-stop shop.
Your choices online for wedding website options are endless; these include Zola, Minted, Wix, The Knot and Wedding Wire, to name a few. While some are available for a small fee, others allow you to create a basic website for no charge. However, the pros and cons for each option vary. Regardless of which site you select, be sure to include the following information to keep your guests well-informed and ready to party.
Details, Details, Details
Although you’ve already sent out the basic information in the form of a save-the-date and/or invitation, don’t omit these important details from your site. The basics are called “the basics” for a reason—they’re the minimal bits of information that people absolutely need to know to attend. This includes the wedding date and time, as well as the ceremony and reception locations (including specific addresses). Also, be sure to include you and your fiancé’s full names. If giving a personalized or monogrammed gift, guests may look here first for your name and correct spelling. From there, be sure to include any additional scheduled activities that are open to ALL guests, such as welcome parties, next-day brunches, after-parties, etc.
Where to Stay + How to Get There
When traveling to attend your wedding, remember that many guests will be unfamiliar with the local area. Be sure to include hotel recommendations, as well as any hotel block booking information (such as a website link, discount information and/ or booking deadline). If you plan to provide transportation to or from your wedding, be sure to include this information as well. Guests will often need to adjust their plans to include extra time for travel or rental cars. Guests may even need to plan on bringing different items along to the wedding (a change of clothes or medications).
If you are not including transportation for your guests, be sure to provide them with the wedding venue address and any navigational tips if the location is hard to find.
Local Suggestions
Those who are not immediate family or a member of the wedding party, might have a good bit of downtime between and around the wedding festivities. For those planning to extend their trip beyond the wedding or for those who have a bit of time to kill, be sure to include some suggestions regarding nearby sites of interest, restaurant recommendations and a bit of local flavor. Don’t worry about doing too much; however, a quick suggestion with a great anecdote will always be a hit. For example, consider recommending a restaurant that you both love, the park where you got engaged, the bar where you met, etc.
Registry Information
Since including registry details on your wedding invitation is taboo, the wedding website is the appropriate place to include this information. Most of the wedding website hosts now allow you to actually embed registry information from other stores’ websites directly onto your personal site. Guests will be able to shop for you without ever having to leave your website!
31 WEDDINGS 2024
RSVP Options
Thinking of giving guests the option to RSVP online? Most wedding websites now allow you to add this feature to your site for guests’ ease of access. However, there are pros and cons to online vs. paper RSVPs. Be sure to think through which option will work best for you and your guests. If deciding to go the traditional route, be sure to at least include the RSVP deadline on your website in an obvious spot.
“Other” Information
Have additional important details that may be specific to your wedding that guests need to know? Definitely include those on your site! Examples of relevant information may include parking details, information regarding wheelchair or handicap accessibility, specific attire recommendations, kid-friendly vs. adult-only info, cash bar details if relevant, a request for an unplugged ceremony (a.k.a. no cell phones), hashtags, beach ceremony details (for shoe-choosing purposes), etc. Think through what you’d want to know if you were attending the wedding as a guest. Be sure to keep your guests informed!
Optional Items
Have a little extra time and want to get creative? Additional items that guests may enjoy on wedding websites include overviews of your wedding party, pictures of your time together as a couple, and the story of how you met or got engaged, where you’ll honeymoon, etc. While not necessary, these items can give a little personality to your site.
Contact Info
Whether you create a new email address or have a form for guests to fill out on the site, include information on how guests can get in contact if they should have any questions. While you’ll most likely get a few questions regarding silly requests for information readily available on your site, you’ll also probably get a few important inquiries regarding items you didn’t think to include. By having some form of contact included—in whatever form that may be—you’ll be sure to keep everyone comfortable and ready for the big day!
While it may seem like a lot of information to include, be sure to keep it short and sweet! By providing all of the necessary details, you’ll save yourself from an overwhelming influx of texts, emails and calls while making sure that everyone feels ready to celebrate with you!

Soft peach, asymmetrical draping is expertly hung from the cathedral ceiling, creating a stunning focal point and setting the mood for a lovely, spring affair. Gold Chiavari chairs add natural elegance to the scene. A crisp white tablecloth gives way to a colorful collection of vintage plates and flatware. Mix-and-match is the name of this elegant game, with intricate tablescapes that include vintage Haviland China, Westmoreland milk glass and depression-era dinner and salad plates, Wexford and Kings Crown glassware and silver plated flatware.
