PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD OPENS FOR REBUILD FLORIDA VOLUNTARY HOME BUYOUT PROGRAM
The public comment period has opened for the Rebuild Florida Voluntary Home Buyout Program. The Rebuild Florida Voluntary Home Buyout Program is designed to encourage risk reduction through the purchase of residential property in high flood risk areas to help reduce the impact of future disasters.

Escambia County values citizen and stakeholder engagement and will provide a reasonable opportunity of at least 30 days for citizen comment and ongoing citizen access to information about the use of these
grant funds. During the development of the grant applications, the county will consult with disaster-affected citizens, stakeholders, local government, public housing authorities and other affected parties in the surrounding geographic area.
The public comment period for these projects is open from Wednesday, March 1 until Friday, March 31. All public comments can be emailed to sallyrecoverygrant@myescambia.com.

The City of Pensacola is pursuing state grant funding for three infrastructure projects, with plans to apply for funding to complete projects at Hollice T. Williams Stormwater Park, the Port of Pensacola and Fricker Resource Center.
The funding is available through the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity’s Hurricane Sally Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery funding, which is part of the Rebuild Florida Infrastructure Repair Program.
The City of Pensacola intends to submit applications for the following activities:
• Hollice T. Williams Stormwater Park Project: This project will include stormwater, flood mitigation, and other green infrastructure improvements to linear park to reduce area flooding and boost community resiliency. Estimated CDBG-DR request: $31 million
• Port of Pensacola Infrastructure Restoration Project: This project will restore infrastructure damaged by Hurricane Sally to include rail, road, water, and
stormwater drainage as well as mitigation improvements. Estimated CDBGDR request: $10 million
• Fricker Resource Center Demolition and Rebuild Project: This public facility project will include the demolition and rebuilding of the Fricker Resource Center to serve various community needs, including shelter assisting with emergency preparations and response. Estimated CDBG-DR request: $5 million
In developing a CDBG-DR application, the city must plan to minimize displacement of persons as a result of these activities. It is not anticipated that any proposed activities will result in displacement.
A 14-day public comment period to obtain citizen comments concerning the city’s intent to apply for these specific projects will be open starting Monday, March 6 through Monday, March 20. The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) today released the following statement attributed to its President & CEO Brewster Bevis regarding House Bill 837 relating to Civil Remedies by Representatives Tommy Gregory and Tom Fabricio. HB 837 today passed the House Civil Justice Subcommittee, its first committee of reference.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY MARINE RESOURCES WATERWAYS MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP
Escambia County Marine Resources will hold a Waterways Management Workshop
Monday, March 13, at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Office Complex, 3363 W. Park Place, room 104. Members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend.
Held in conjunction with the Marine Advisory Committee, the workshop is designed to identify opportunities to improve Escambia County’s waterways to allow for better access, usage and environmental resources.
The Waterways Management Workshop will focus on solutions to boating safety, boat
ramp capacity, vessels with expired and/or out-of-state registration, and sunken, abandoned, at-risk, grounded and derelict vessels.
The first Waterways Management Workshop took place on Nov. 14, 2022, and focused on identifying items and issues of greatest concern to assist in the prioritization for planning potential solutions.
The Marine Resources division works to provide access to safe, healthy and productive waterways. The division works with federal, state and local agencies, Escambia County residents, visitors, and other stakeholders to fulfill its mission.
