RAY PALMER NAMED CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF SPORTS ETA
Ray Palmer, President and CEO of Pensacola Sports, has been appointed Chairman of the board of directors of Sports ETA, the only trade association for the sports events and tourism industry in the U.S. Over the years, Palmer has served in many leadership roles with Sports ETA, most recently as vice chair.
Palmer has led Pensacola Sports since 2002 and is a certified Sports Tourism Strategist. A 20-year member of Sports ETA, he has been active in the Sports ETA Annual Symposium as a presenter and awards committee member, and he has served on the membership committee.
Focusing on event development and management, Palmer has led the growth of Pensacola Sports by adding local and nationally recognized sports events that drive tourism for the Pensacola region.
Palmer is a past president and Paul Harris Fellow of Five Flags Rotary, a recent recipient of the Florida Sports Leadership Award, serves on numerous committees for Visit Pensacola and recently completed terms on the board of directors for the Florida Sports Foundation. In 2016, he was honored by the Pensacola Sports executive board as their Sportsman of the Year.

DISTRICT 4 COMMISSIONER BENDER RECEIVES FAC PRESIDENTIAL ADVOCACY AWARD
At the 2023 Florida Association of Counties Annual Conference, held in Orange County, Fla., June 27-30, District 4 Commissioner Robert Bender received the Florida Association of Counties Presidential Advocacy Award.
“I am extremely honored to receive the Presidential Advocacy Award” said Commissioner Bender. “I appreciate being recognized for advancing Escambia County’s legislative agenda at the state level and fighting for home rule.”
During the conference, Commissioner Bender was also appointed Chairman of the FAC Health, Safety, and Justice Committee, and was re-appointed to the FAC Board
of Directors. From 2022-2023, he served as the Chairman of the FAC Finance, Tax, and Administration Committee.
Commissioner Bender currently serves as secretary and treasurer for the Institute for County Government and is involved in developing the coursework for the County Commissioner Certification and the Advance Commissioner Certification I and II classes.
Commissioner Bender has completed his Florida Association of Counties County Commissioner Certification (2019) as well as the Advanced County Commissioner I (2020) and Advanced County Commissioner II (2022) certifications.

BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, is excited to announce it will team up with MetLife Pet Insurance for the foundation’s upcoming “Empty the Shelters” reduced-fee adoption event. With the shared goal of helping pets find and stay in loving homes, this collaboration will save lives by expanding the foundation’s reach to include more shelters across the country. From July 6 to July 31, BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Summer National “Empty the Shelters” will occur at more than 335 shelters in 44 states with pets available for adoption for just $50 or less, including SRCAS.
SRCAS has participated in several BISSELL Pet Foundation “Empty the Shelters” events throughout the last few years. These events have helped find homes for many of Santa Rosa County’s most vulnerable animals.
“We’re excited to once again partner with BISSELL Pet Foundation to provide reduced adoption fees for the Summer “Empty the Shelters” event,” said Randy Lambert, SRCAS Chief. “Many pets have found their forever families thanks to these events making adoptions more affordable for our community members.”
Since the 2016 inception of BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters,” nearly 158,000 pets at 669 animal welfare organizations in 49 states and Canada have received second chances. An average of 1,200 shelter pets are adopted each day during each quarterly national event. Through this partnership and continued support, the foundation is looking forward to reaching more pets in more shelters and communities during this upcoming event.

KICKSTART SOCCER FREE CLINICS JULY 18 - 20
The annual Pensacola Sports Kick Start Soccer are free clinics offered in Pensacola from July 18 - 20. The clinics are designed to kickstart interest in soccer in kids who have never been exposed to the sport or have not had a chance to gain formal instruction in the sport, all while providing a healthy and safe outlet for free time during the summer.
The clinic is open to children of all skill levels between the ages of 5 and 12. These clinics provide the children with a great opportunity to make new friends, enjoy the outdoors, and learn a new sport!
Participants are required to bring cleats or tennis shoes to play (NO OPEN-TOED SHOES) and are encouraged to put on sunscreen before coming to the clinics.
