Around the Community Kesser Torah Graduates Inaugural Shiur
Advertisement
With much Siyata d’Shamaya, Mesivta Kesser Torah graduated its first 12th-grade class of eighteen bochurim on June 7th. Families gathered together for a scrumptious seudah and meaningful speeches to mark the completion of four years of growth for the mesaymim.
Students listened to speeches from Rabbi Avrohom Feldheim (Menahel), Rabbi Tzvi Mordechai Feldheim (Rosh Mesivta), Rabbi Moshe Dovid Robinson (Principal), and Rabbi Mordechai Weissmann (Curriculum Coordinator). The speakers highlighted how the talmidim should see themselves as the “bechor” of the yeshiva and how they should never forget that the kol Torah emanating from the mesivta is a legacy they helped create.
In addition to receiving their diplomas, each bochur was presented with a sefer and personalized messages from their rebbeim from throughout their four years in mesivta. Additionally, two students- Rafi Rose and Moshe Shmuel Leder, addressed their classmates and expressed their appreciation for their rebbeim and hanhala.
The evening concluded with a message from Rabbi Chaim Schwartz, proud father of a graduate and member of the Board of Directors, regarding the history of Kesser Torah and a charge to the talmidim to be representatives of their mesivta for years to come.
About a third of the bochurim will be part of an inaugural shiur of roughly twenty talmidim in Kesser Torah’s new Bais Medrash, under the leadership of Rav Nosson Newman, next year. The remaining two-thirds will be in yeshivos throughout Eretz Yisroel, Lakewood, and Monsey.

3 Alerts Issued Due To Water Quality In Baltimore County
By: Staff Reporter
BaltimoreJewishLife.com/Jeff Cohn
Recreational water users should exercise caution at three areas in Baltimore County due to potential contamination, officials say.
Baltimore County officials have issued three alerts Monday around water quality in the area.
Sanitary sewer overflows prompted water contact alerts at two locations:
Parks Run and lower Beaver Dam Run in Cockeysville
Big Gunpowder River downstream from the Loch Raven Dam
The Baltimore County Environmental Health Services issues water contact alerts to let people know they should not drink stream water; they should avoid contact if they have cuts or wounds; and they should minimize hand-to-mouth contact if they are in the water. People should wash their hands thoroughly before eating if in the area.
A water quality advisory is also in effect for the freshwater portion of the Patapsco River. Officials say they issue this type of advisory when sewage contamination is not a factor but stormwater may produce contaminated conditions.
The two water contact alerts and the water quality advisory are in effect until further notice
Around the Community The Jewish Community Softball League (JCSL) by “Shimz Cars” Returns for 3rd Season
JCSL by Shimz Cars kicked off their third annual season at the Northwest Regional – by Stutman Chiropractic fields.
Prior to opening week, the league’s 108 players were divided between nine different teams via a draft system, ensuring parity in competition. The nine teams are each named for their individual team sponsors: Columbia Group, Donny Ankri Architects, Fired Up Promotions, Gastro Center of MD, Joseph
Greenfield & Laake, Kaylah Diamonds,
Levin & Gann, Seven Seas Sushi, and Wig-
Works.
Following the draft, teams were provided with their team jerseys, sponsored by Raskin Built. All nine teams will compete for eight regular season games, with the top four teams facing off in a round of playoffs. The playoffs winners will then battle each other in the AMF Creative championship.
Continue below for some of the excitement from the first few weeks of the season.
Week 1
Levin and Gann 20 Kaylah Diamonds 14
Levin & Gann showed resiliency and perseverance in their season opening win, ultimately “chipping away” at the Kaylah Diamonds team.
L&G jumped out to a 4-0 lead but after some early inning jitters, Kaylah settled in, scoring 12 straight, with some clutch hitting from Yaakov “The Effervescent Tapeworm” Lichter, to take a commanding lead.
L&G responded with a defensive adjustment that moved all three Rappaport brothers into the infield. This strategy proved fruitful as Kaylah scored only 2 more runs the rest of the way. L&G’s runs came from all spots in the lineup, including OF Shmuel Luxenburg, whose consistency at the plate proved to be taxing on Kaylah’s pitching. With a 1-2-3 inning from P Yaakov Rappaport in the 9th, L&G emerged victorious.
Donny Ankri Architects 9 Seven Seas Sushi 4
Missing multiple starters, Seven Seas Sushi fought valiantly against Donny Ankri Architects in a game that remained close until the Architects pulled away in the 8th inning.
Down 5-1 in the 5th, Seven Seas scored a run in each of the next 3 innings to make it 5-4. But in the 8th, the heart of Architects batting order got on base and scored to extend the lead.
Defensive gems were made by Architects’ outfielder Josh Zaslow (who made an incredible diving catch) and SS Donny Ankri (who orchestrated a pair of double plays).

Fired Up Promotions 15 Gastro Center of MD 14
Fired Up Promotions got things rolling quickly when slugger Mordy Schiermeyer drove in multiple runs with a clutch double in the 1st , helping the team take an early 5-0 lead. Fired Up maintained the lead for a bit but some costly mistakes allowed Gastro Center to draw even, eventually tying the game at 13-13 after 7 innings.
In the bottom of the 8th, Fired Up’s Richard Buck led off with a sharp single to right and Noam Shiman followed by hitting a triple to right, scoring Buck. Fired Up scored an insurance run when “Fountains of” Wayne Chesner (who collected 3 RBIs on the day), knocked in Shiman with a sac fly to right, putting Fired Up up 15-13. Gastro mounted a rally in the 9th to score 1 run but Fired Up, with some solid defense, held on for a 15-14 victory. RUBY LASKER DESIGNSRUBY LASKER DESIGNS
Week 2
WigWorks 17 Gastro Center of MD 5
After a tumultuous off season which saw changes in ownership, management, and the loss of the “Finkelstein Bash brothers of Baltimore” to free agency, the Columbians were struggling to find their new identity as a team. Opening the season with a lopsided loss against said Bash brothers certainly did not help the cause.
With the highly anticipated rematch of the JCSL 2020 championship game’s first pitch ceremony nearly complete, long time team co-captain Mendy Rauh gathered the team for what would turn out to be the motivational speech of the decade.
“I was just trying to get the young guys riled-up and involved. I can’t even get them to batting practice!” said a gushing Rauh in a postgame interview. Come out to batting practice they certainly did!! The “young guys” went a combined 18 for 22 with 3 homers & 16 RBIs in a game that lasted 5 innings before the mercy rule was enforced.
Week 3
Columbia Group 5 Joseph, Greenwald, & Laake 4
After a lengthy but friendly discussion regarding any and all nuances of the Pinch Running rules, the Columbians jumped out to an early 3-0 league. Still basking in the glory and daydreaming of the previous game’s victories, both teams didn’t seem to want to do much else until the 7th inning.
Down 2 runs with one out in the 7th, JG&L’s star shortstop, David Pensak, single-handedly shocked both teams back to reality with a bases clearing triple. Father-of-the-year Tali Strum followed with the go-ahead sac drive to put the J.G. Laakers ahead 4-3 for what seemed to be another dramatic come-from behind victory. But the Columbians regrouped, scoring two in the bottom of the 7th, and reluctantly accepted victory in the bottom of the inning.
Week 4

Timely hitting by Asher Sondhelm and Nosson Berman helped break the game open early, allowing WigWorks to go up 6-0 after the first inning. Outfielder Aryeh Wolf made multiple highlight worthy plays in the outfield while the rest of the team played solid, consistent defense. All around, the team is looking almost as pristine as a wash and set from Chana at Wig Works.
Columbia Group 21 Levin and Gann 5
With multiple lead changes during the game, it was only expected that Levin & Gann would not let a 3 run deficit get to them in the bottom of the ninth. But that’s all L&G would get, as the game ended in a 11-11 tie.
After some tightening up on the defensive end, L&G is beginning to get back to championship form. Donny Ankri Architects provided some timely hitting (and hard to track fly balls) but ultimately, they couldn’t hold on to their 3 run lead.

Bachurei Mercaz Celebrate Their Grand Banquet
Earlier this year, Mercaz Torah U’Tefillah, under the auspices of Rabbi Eichenstein shlit’a, launched Bachurei Mercaz. This programs goal was to provide for 7th and 8th grade boys who have a desire to be part of a chevra of growing bachurim who will spend their shabbos together in a more productive way.

More than 40 boys from a variety of schools are members of this special group and they have proven themselves to be capable of organizing and carrying out the many responsibilities that come along with such an undertaking. Bachurei Mercaz celebrated their grand banquet at the Royal Restaurant togther with Rabbi Eichenstein. They heard divrei chizuk from R’ Binyamin Blackman, a parent of one of the bachurim, R’ Shmuel Kranz, the programs director, and special guest speaker, Rabbi Tzvi Mordechai Feldheim.
