Tell us a bit about your background.

I learned in Yeshivas Chaim Berlin for 9 years, including 6.5 years in beis medrash, and received smicha from R’ Yitzchak Hutner zt”l. Meanwhile, I attended college 2 nights a week and summers and got my BS in Electrical Engineering. After working 7 years as an engineer, I became a financial adviser. Currently, I am a Senior VP with Morgan Stanley.

Tell us about your connection with the Baltimore community.

After meeting and marrying my wife Brenda, a Baltimore native, I moved here from New York and have been in Baltimore since 1966! We have ka”h 4 children, 3 of which live in Baltimore, and “quite a few” grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Baruch Hashem. We are longstanding members at Shomrei Emunah, and I have served as the shul’s vice president in the past. In addition, I have given classes and sermons at Shomrei as well.

“G-d Gave Us the Torah: Do We Just Believe It To Be True, Or Do We Know It To Be True”: What’s this lecture all about?

A number of years ago, I developed a talk that dealt with 2 questions: ● G-d gave us the written Torah (Chumash). Do we KNOW it to be true, or do we just BELIEVE it to be true? ● Besides for the written Torah, we also have a mesora of Torah shebal peh that was given to Moshe by G-d, passed down, and eventually recorded in Gemara. Do we KNOW or just BELIEVE that?

This is a 45 minute lecture I have given to many shuls over Pesach and Shavuos and in some schools. Close to 2,000 people have already heard this important lecture. Recently, I condensed the lecture into a 20 minute audio where I prove that Hashem not only gave us the written Torah, but any time a Rabbi in the gemara says something (and nobody disagrees), we know that it was G-d who said it.

I believe that each and every parent and grandparent must make sure that their children and grandchildren listen to this audio, every principal must ensure his or her students hear the lecture, and every shul must share the audio with their members.

Anyone who hears and understands everything in this lecture will come to approach Torah and mitzvos in a new light. Thinking about what our chachamim have written will help us make good decisions before acting. I provide more background on this in the lecture. We can save children from going off the derech.

If you can give across one message to the younger generation, what would that message be?

When making any important decision in life, make sure you daven to Hashem, and talk to Him and ask Him to help you make the right decisions. Keep in mind the Rabbis in the Gemora tell us that G-d writes down everything we do, so if you are about to do an Aveira, we know G-d is writing it down. So – be smart, don’t do it. Be smart.
