Naturally beautiful hair is hard to achieve, especially in the unpredictable British climate. So our in-house research queen Hollie Race has done a little research into finding out how you can boost your follicles from within. Feed your hair with nutrients which are healthy and yummy too.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C helps in the production of collagen which strengthens the capillaries that supply the hair shafts. Foods high in this are Blueberries, Oranges, Kiwis, Broccoli and Sweet Potato.
Zinc & Selenium
Scalp protection involves other important minerals, notably Zinc and Selenium. A lack of Zinc can lead to hair loss and a dry, flaky scalp. Fortified cereals and whole grains are a good source of zinc along with Oysters, Beef and Eggs.
Protein
Hair is made up of protein so ensuring you have plenty of this will keep your hair strong. If you are not consuming enough protein, your hair is likely to become dry, brittle and weak. Chicken, Eggs, Turkey and Dairy are all great sources of protein.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a great way to protect our hair from sun damage. Nuts are nutritional powerhouses, providing Zinc and Selenium as well as vitamin E so try to include them as part of a balanced diet.
Omega 3
Omega-3s are found in the cells that line the scalp and also provide the oils that keep your scalp and hair hydrated. Fish such as Salmon, Mackerel and trout, or for vegans - avocado, pumpkins seeds and nuts are all excellent food sources.
Biotin
Biotin is a water-soluble B vitamin. Too little biotin can cause brittle hair and may lead to hair loss. Include biotin rich foods such as whole grains, Liver, egg yolk, soy flour and yeast.
Iron
Iron is essential for healthy hair follicles, not enough iron can result in severe hair loss. Cabbage, red meat, lentils, broccoli and other green vegetables hold a high source of Iron.

ON THE COVER Our cover star of Issue #7 is Elea AKA ‘Applejack’ from our ‘My little pony’ inspired collection for SS14 (featiured on pages 18-23). This fantastical creation was a real feat of engineering... Two giant panels of coloured hair wefts were weaved together in a ‘basket weave’ technique then attached to Elea’s natural auburn hair. Her fringe was crimped and styled into a high quiff for maximum impact.
