1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.3 PROBLEM STATMENT

The main problem lies in the fact that Jeddah has been a meeting place for many cultures from all over the world. This has given us a rich culture. Afterwards, less attention was given to the historic area. Therefore, the solution at the urban level was to revive and develop the Abu Anaba axis. The project is an extension of that development.

New Building

Demolition buildings and expansion space

A new building support the region contains four floors and its should be similar to the old fabric.

Remove several modern buildings of the few floors to increase Nassif space area and to find new areas and services.

Facade treatment

Highs buildings that exceed height than Nassef house treatment does not overwhelm Nassef.

Project Site The views of Jeddah and the historical region in general see the weak presence of its cultural centers, and those cultures that were formed in the historic Jeddah need total care and management from several social, economic and environmental aspects.

A new building supporting the old building that provides modern integrated and technical services Enhances the resilience of the old building without neglecting existing culture

Continuing the main idea of the project, the main points of attraction at t he points of intersection of the boundaries of the historical area with its surroundings create an attraction for the region, providing us w ith a frequency transmission within the histo r ical area. In addition, the project aims to create elements that compete the modern city by providing the missing elements in the historical area.

In addition to the fact that the site is located on the most important axes in the historical area the hub of Abu Anaba and the axis of Al-Ulwi – which is considered the heart of the historical area, Pedestrians must pass through these main streets as well as the project therefore it must be the most sensitive and major area, therefore it must be invested culturally.

Historically, the Nassif family was a house of knowledge and culture. The general plan was to present a museum house for the region. It was necessary to provide supporting buildings for the museum, which included exhibitions and other cultural functions.

2.0 CASE STUDY 2.1 MORGAN LIBRARY Located just one block from the zocalo of the city of Oaxaca, between the streets of Independencia and Hidalgo, is a group of houses / buildings that are part of the first Dominican convent of the city. a series of additions of little historical value that reverberated in the building not only aesthetically but because they affected Directly the structure of the old building by the enormous amount of weight it had to endure. As the first part of the rescue, the original structure was relieved, demolishing the great majority of blows. In this way it was possible to recover practically 90% of the high and low corridors of the convent, part of the church and the total of the Chapel of the Rosary.

2.0 CASE STUDY 2.1 MORGAN LIBRARY This new building creates, together with the east ambulatory, a useful space with an area of almost 700m2 divided into 3 levels. This satisfies the area requirements required for the o p eration of a specialized library and an exhibition area that must be in a stable climate and protected from the elements. For this, this space is divided into two areas: a reading room, w h ich is located inside the intervention, in a d i rect relationship with the courtyard of the cloister and protected from the elements by a g l ass facade that will always be under shade Thanks to a mobile cover. And archiving / storage areas, which will be concentrated in the east ambulatory taking advantage of the massive condition of the convent. It tries to house most of the collection directly on the wall so as not to compromise with unnecessary weight the structure of the building and protect the collection of light.

3.0 SITE ANALYSIS 3.3 NASSEF HOUSE Nasseef house has 106 rooms and the art work some of the rooms contain is admirable. Besides works on wood, others on tiles can be seen as well as Arabic calligraphy. The design style is said to be Ottoman Turkish. This rather describes more the period during which it was built than relationship to designs popular in the Umayyad and Abbasids cultural centers at this time such as Baghdad, Cordoba and Damascus .[3] The style is thought to be more related to stylistic elements found along the Red Sea, Egypt and maybe the Levant at that time. The house has an irregular plan of rectangular rooms arranged around a central hall.[4] The main entrance to the house is from the north, while there is a second entrance from the west, that was used by the women.

5.0 DESIGN CONCEPT 5.1.2 ENVIRONMENTAL CONCEPT One of the characteristics of Jeddah's old identity is the climate component because it benefits from the continuity of air movement (cross ventilation). When placing ventilation openings, you are placing inlets and outlets to optimize the path air follows through the building. Windows or vents placed on opposite sides of the building give natural breezes a pathway through the structure. This is called cross-ventilation. Cross-ventilation is generally the most effective form of wind ventilation. Also, you can increase cross ventilation by having larger openings on the leeward faces of the building that the windward faces and placing inlets at higher pressure zones and outlets at lower pressure zones.

Small Opening Effect To increase cooling effectiveness, a smaller inlet can be paired with a larger outlet opening. With this configuration, inlet air can have a higher velocity. Because the same amount of air must pass through both the bigger and smaller openings in the same period of time, it must pass through the smaller opening more quickly.

6.0 BUILDING DESIGN 6.7 ENERGY

Curtain walls offer architects a multitude of possibilities for the integration of photovoltaic solar energy into buildings in an efficient and ecological manner.Photovoltaic curtain wall provides a multifunctional solution where not only clean and free energy is being generated in-situ, but also natural illumination is being provided implementing solar control by filtering effect, avoiding infrared and UV irradiation to the interior (enhancing thermal comfort and avoiding interior aging). The large variety in form, structure and color of transparent photovoltaic glass, combined with the aluminum frames, provides a free reign of creativity for architects so they can create designs which unite elegance, efficiency and energy saving.Onyx Solar can customize the photovoltaic glass to supply it in different sizes, colors and degrees of transparency. These characteristics mean that it is the ideal material for installation as a photovoltaic curtain wall.
