[ Feeds for foals, broodmares and stallions ] A complete line for high-level horse breeding. Acme’s philosophy is to support and strengthen horses during the most critical period of their lives: growth. In this period of intense development, we can lay the foundations for the creation of a potential champion athlete. The perfect expression of the horse’s general characteristics is achieved with a diet that is rich in proteins of high biological value, which are essential to satisfying its needs.

GETWAY

Colostrum-substitute feed supplement for horses

Getway

Getway boosts the immune defences and reduces the risk of neonatal disease, whilst improving the foal’s reactivity to the environment. Getway is the natural alternative to mare colostrum. It is specially formulated to provide the foal with good passive immunity in all those circumstances in which the dam’s colostrum is inadequate: debilitated broodmares, mares with mastitis, primiparas that have inadequate colostrum or are reluctant to feed their foals. Recommended for foals with postnatal respiratory acidosis (a metabolic dysfunction that reduces immunoglobulin absorption) or that have a weak constitution.

450g sachet of soluble powder.

• Guarantees the constant transmission of passive immunity to the new-born foal.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CORRECT USE Reconstitute the product by pouring 500 ml of water with a temperature of 40°C into a clean container. Gradually add all the powder in the sachet, stirring thoroughly. Once a homogeneous suspension has been obtained, add a further 500 mL of hot water and continue stirring until fully homogenised. Administer to the foal at 38/40°C in the first few moments of its life, as antibody absorption is greatest within the first 2 hours from birth and gradually drops to 0 after 20/36 hours. Newborn foals with good vitality can be bottle fed; foals with poor vitality, which may not have a deglutition reflex, should be fed using a nasogastric tube. Start administration as early as possible, splitting it into several feeds until the whole dose has been taken. If the product is refrigerated, it must be warmed before administration.

WARNINGS Do not administer reconstituted milk until the foal has taken the recommended dose of colostrum. Store

Nanut foal

NANUT FOAL Milk supplement for foals

PROPERTIES

Specially formulated to guarantee excellent digestibility and a moderate lactose and protein content, in order to limit the risk of bacterial enteritis, a high essential amino acid content to guarantee correct growth, potent emulsifiers to favour the digestion of fat and rehydrating substances to counter dehydration in foals.

Indicated for use in cases of poor dam milk production, in orphaned foals and cases of neonatal haemolytic anaemia. To supplement or replace the dam’s milk in the diet of new-born foals in cases of: dam agalactia, unwholesome milk production or neonatal isoerythrolysis. To increase the energy intake of feed rations for sick

foals. To facilitate weaning. NANUT can be administered to weaned foals and adult horses by mixing the powder to normal feed in order to improve nutrition. In this case, administer a dose of between 100 and 1000 g per day depending on the weight and state of nutrition of the subjects.

born foal is approximately 20% its own weight. The energy requirements of unwell foals may be up to 100% greater, for example in cases of systemic sepsis, surgical procedures, heat stress and diarrhoea; in such situations, it is essential to intervene with parenteral support in addition to that based on Nanut Foal. The following mean doses refer to foals belonging to normal-sized breeds weighing 50 kg at birth that develop according to physiological growth standards in the absence of disease. Higher nutritional requirements must be satisfied by increasing the frequency of feeds as well as the quantity of milk given at each one.

PRIMOLATTE Pre-cooked feed for weaning foals

Primolatte

PRIMOLATTE is characterised by a very high biological value (Lysine 1.9%) and by its complete digestibility in nursing foals. These characteristics make it the ideal feed for foals from the first month of life. Subjects fed with PRIMOLATTE are protected against the mineral and vitamin deficiencies that cause the most common developmental orthopaedic diseases (DOD). They continue to develop during and after weaning because they are not subject to any stressful changes of diet or dietary deficiencies. Regular development prevents the compensatory growth that causes DOD. It produces sturdy, well-formed subjects with intact joints.

AMINOFEED COMPLETE Aminofeed complete

Feed supplement obtained by combining Aminofeed and All Grains.

Thanks to the original properties of the two complementary feeds, Aminofeed Complete guarantees an excellent essential amino acid, vitamin and mineral intake. Aminofeed Complete’s high digestibility is guaranteed by the pressurised heat treatment the cereals it contains are subject to. Aminofeed Complete must be administered with excellent quality forage and is recommended for all phases of sport horse breeding.

20

[ Feeds for foals, broodmares and stallions ]

PROPERTIES

Stallions It favours fertility and keeps subjects in an excellent state of health and nutrition throughout the mating season.

Foals When administered from weaning, AMINOFEED COMPLETE allows excellent growth that translates into strong bone diameters, perfect limb conformation and intact joints. It favours skeletal mineralisation by increasing bone density, to the advantage of structural solidity and competition longevity. It prevents common deficiencies (Copper, Zinc and Manganese) and common mineral trace element imbalances that cause the most common joint injuries in foals (osteochondrosis).

COMPOSITION CHEMICAL ANALYSIS Digestible energy Crude protein Crude oils and fats Crude cellulose Crude ash Sodium Lysine

Mares The product satisfies higher-than-normal protein, essential amino acid and mineral requirements during pregnancy and lactation. It prevents common deficiencies (Copper, Zinc and Manganese) and common mineral trace element imbalances. It favours the correct growth of the foal, associated with good skeletal mineralisation. Aminofeed Complete stimulates a rapid recovery of the oestrous cycle even in critical conditions, such as mares that have been impoverished by competitions and that promptly need to be “put in foal. Aminofeed Complete also improves gestation success and stimulates a plentiful onset of lactation after birth.

ALL GRAINS Feed supplement containing extruded cereal grains that are microbiologically safe for horses

All grains

Allgrains is an energetic feed supplement, with low protein content. Digestible protein does not exceed 70 g per kg. It is obtained from yellow varieties of corn that are rich in xanthophylls. The cereal grains are subject to a pressurised heat treatment that cooks the starch, transforming it into maltodextrin. This results in better digestibility that is well above 80% of the entire amount available. Cooking also reduces the microbial load. ALL GRAINS is suitable for all horses, particularly genetically-important fillies and colts that are therefore destined to undergo considerable physical development and for adult horses under intensive training that require particularly concentrated and readily-digestible diets. It is also recommended for stressed and elderly subjects and those with digestive and absorption alterations. In riding centre horses fed with legume hay or mixed hay containing at least 1/3 legume hay, it can be used as the only concentrate. Combined administration with Aminosport is recommended for competing adult subjects and with Aminofeed for breeding. Acme also provides a version of Aminofeed Complete and Aminosport Complete, in which Allgrain is already mixed with the feed supplement in ideal proportions.

I-GO Feed supplement that helps prevent muscle disorders caused by inadequate carbohydrate metabolism (rhabdomyolysis, myoglobinuria, tying up)

I-Go

The efficient metabolism resulting from regular administration of I-GO, combined with constant physical exercise, keeps lactic acid within values that are compatible with muscle integrity and the horse’s fitness condition. I-GO provides haematopoietic factors (Vitamin B), antioxidants and protectors of the striated muscle (vitamin E-Selenium) and metabolism (thiamine), amino acids and electrolytes. Its sodium, potassium and calcium content complies with Equine Internal Medicine recommendations for the prevention of rhabdomyolysis in horses. The significant intake of amino acids and good protein content help maintain the body’s protein content and strengthen the muscle. Thanks to the limited calorie intake (starch less than 10%) and the high encumbrance coefficient, I-GO stimulates satiety, which restricts the energy intake and excessive storage of muscle glycogen.

FUTURITY SONG Feed supplement for Western riding horses.

Futurity Song

Futurity Song is a feed supplement prepared with nutrients that do not require any digestive commitment, such as branched-chain amino acids and other essential amino acids. In this form, free amino acids are absorbed in the upper gastrointestinal tract, even when digestive processes are altered or inhibited. Contains maltodextrin, carbohydrates, proteins and easilyabsorbed short-chain fats. The increased digestibility and absorbability of this feed compensate the negative alterations caused by stress and consequent gastric hypochylia. Futurity Song is especially useful for feeding fillies, colts and adult horses used for Western riding that undergo intense training periods and in all those cases in which they are exposed to stressful and physically demanding exercise.

[ Probiotic feed supplements ] Highly digestible feed supplement that helps re-balance the gut flora and re-establish correct intestinal peristalsis following prolonged antibiotic therapy or after surgery.

43

RECOVERY

Feed supplement for convalescent colts, fillies and adult horses.

Recovery

Recovery is a highly digestible and very palatable feed supplement to be spontaneously consumed also by distressed subjects or those with a poor appetite. The natural prebiotics (highly digestible fibre, oligofructosaccharides, inulin), probiotics (live yeasts, saccharomyces cerevisiae) and electrolytes reactivate gastrointestinal functions. Recovery’s enterophilic bacteria occupy the colon and compete with pathogenic bacteria (clostrides, salmonellas, colibacilli) thus restricting their harmfulness. Recovery is useful for preventing the main intestinal dysmicrobism disorders, it favours a return to normal eating habits surgical procedures, intestinal illnesses and antibiotic treatments. It also reactivates peristalsis and regularises gastrointestinal transit in cases of intestinal hypotonia and enterites. Recovery helps restore reserves of macro and microelements, minerals, electrolytes and vitamins. The high fibre content and excellent digestibility reduce the risks of laminitis caused by an excess calorie intake or incomplete cereal grain digestion. Its absorbability, biological value and encumbrance coefficient make Recovery an efficacious and safe food for reactivating digestive processes after surgical procedures (enterotomy, laparotomy, osteosynthesis) and to reduce the stress and distress that cause gastroduodenal ulcers, malabsorption syndromes, intestinal pH alterations, weight loss and digestive difficulties in elderly subjects or those with impaired masticatory function.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CORRECT USE Recovery can be administered without limitation according to the nutritional requirements of convalescent subjects with clear benefits in terms of a recovery of nutritional status and good clinical conditions. After surgical procedures, reintroduce eating with digestible forage and a calibrated intake of Recovery (100g a day per 100 kg of weight). The following week gradually increase to 500-600 g per day per 100 kg of weight. If the colts, fillies or adult horses suffer from severe infections with hyperthermia or are in pain, the amount of Recovery administered can be increased up to 1000 g per day per 100 kg of weight. Split the amount to be administered into at least three meals during the day, providing ad libitum hay and water. In horses with a history of laminitis do not exceed 1000 g per 100 kg of weight per day, the recommended dose is 500 g per 100 kg of weight per day. Administer for 3 - 4 consecutive weeks or, under a veterinarian’s advice, until the subject has made a full recovery.

47

AC-D

AC-D Digestion and absorption

ACD is a feed supplement with an acid pH that fights diarrhoea and gastric secretion disorders such as achylia. Reductions in secretion by the glandular mucosa of the stomach cause acute and chronic gastritis. These mucosal inflammations are common in horses and lead to pernicious anaemia. The main predisposing factors for gastritis are: stress, concomitant conditions and the administration of medication such as NSAIDs and steroidal anti-

inflammatories. By buffering the gastric pH, ACD favours a better digestion of dietary proteins and reduces the incidence of gut putrefaction in the bowel. Recommended combinations: Primolatte, a pre-cooked feed or, alternatively, concentrates rich in or enriched with essential amino acids, electrolytes and probiotics such as Aminofeed and Aminosport.

Anemic

ANEMIC Anti-anaemia factors cyanocobalamin. It stimulates the production of erythropoietin, which in turn improves the absorption of iron by the bone marrow cells. Its deficiency causes a reduction in erythropoiesis. VITAMIN B12 is essential for the synthesis of haemoglobin and nucleic acids. Its deficiency causes megaloblastic anaemia. FOLIC ACID: An anti-anaemia factor whose deficiency causes megaloblastic anaemia. VITAMIN C reduces iron and iron ions (Fe+++) , which improves intestinal absorption.

ANEMIC provides the main red blood cell and haemoglobin production factors. IRON constitutes an essential part of haemoglobin and its deficiency causes hypochromic anaemia. Large amounts of COPPER are present in the red blood cells in the form of erythrocuprein, which belongs to the cytochrome oxidase family of enzymes responsible for cellular respiration. Its deficiency causes hypochromic anaemia. COBALT improves haematocrit and haemoglobin values and favours the gut flora’s synthesis of

Bull power

BULL POWER Training Taurine is a vitamin-like substance that plays a key role in cerebral and cardiovascular functions. It increases the heart’s contractile strength and cardiac output. It boasts potent antioxidant activity and stimulates the immune system. As a bile acid ingredient, it is essential for the use of lipids. Dietary supplementation with Taurine increases the secretion of taurocholate, which in turn increases the secretion of cholesterol in the bile, thereby improving

hepatic lipid metabolism and the metabolism of sugars. Taurine coadjuvates the hormonal activity of insulin. As a potent organic solubiliser, it favours renal clearance of various toxic substances and has a considerable non-specific detoxifying action. In this case, it also acts by means of a second pathway in which its amine group reacts directly with the carboxy acids of toxins to neutralise them. Like the GABA neurotransmitter, 56

[ Feed supplements for healthy horses ]

PROPERTIES

Taurine regulates intra- and extracellular ion transportation and stabilises the cell membrane. It modulates cyclic AMP activity, which in turn influences muscle contractility and hormone metabolism. Its plasma levels increase after intense physical exertion, despite the reduction in the amino acids consumed by gluconeogenesis. This phenomenon can be explained by the fact that Taurine is not oxidised for energy production and does not take part in protein synthesis as it must remain available for the essential metabolic functions of the brain, heart, liver and muscle tissue.

Thanks to Taurine’s specific antioxidant properties, Bull Power taken at any time of the day favours recovery after intense physical exertion. When taken by mouth, Taurine, which is present in animal tissues only, becomes readily bioavailable in the bloodstream, improves athletic performance and reduces muscle damage and oxidative stress.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CORRECT USE Adult horses, colts, fillies and dams: 2-8 g per kg of feed, equal to 10-50 g per day (1-2 x 25 g sachets), depending on the animal’s weight and, in any case, at the discretion of the veterinarian or nutrition specialist. Carniton B12

CARNITON B12 High performance L-CARNITINE: Transports long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria where they are oxidised to produce large quantities of energy (Ă&#x; oxidation) without accumulating lactic acid. The energy that is released, which is stored in the form of ATP, is available for skeletal and heart muscle contraction. By favouring the energetic use of fats, it reduces the production of lactic acid and the risk of myoglobinuria. VITAMIN B12: is essential for the synthesis of nucleic acids, purines, choline, lipids and

carbohydrates. It has a lipotropic action in the liver. It promotes haemoglobin synthesis and has a potent anti-anaemia activity. Stimulates reproductive processes, muscle tone, the appetite and the growth of foals, fillies and colts. L-LYSINE: an essential amino acid that is not synthesised by the body. It is required in high doses during all phases of considerable growth.

Defender

DEFENDER

Gastric mucosal protection

COMPOSITION

Defender forms a barrier over the gastroduodenal mucosa to protect it from acid secretion; it has a buffer effect that reduces gastric acidity and minimises the effects of the reactions to stress. It also adsorbs pepsin and bile acids, to reduce their inflammatory and cell histolesive action.

Magnesium, Aluminium and Pectin.

PROPERTIES Defender è coadiuvante nella gestione di: • Stressful events (intensive training, competitions, transport, hospitalisation).

64

[ Feed supplements for healthy horses ]

Adult horses (weighing 400-500 kg): 9 doses. As a coadjuvant in restoring gastric mucosal integrity: Foals: 4 doses. Colts and fillies: 9 doses. Adult horses (weighing 400-500 kg): 15 doses.

• Organic reactions to stress with negative repercussions on the integrity of the gastric and duodenal mucosa. • Biological reactions to stress with negative implications for the horse’s fitness.

Duration of use: 20 - 30 days.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CORRECT USE GRANULES Reduction in stress reactions and protection of the gastroduodenal mucosa during events that are critical for its integrity: Foals: 25 g every twelve hours (50 g per animal per day). Colts and fillies: 50 g every twelve hours (100 g per animal per day). Administer daily during stressful events for a maximum of 4 weeks. Adult horses (400-500 kg): 100 g every twelve hours (200 g per animal per day). As a coadjuvant in restoring gastric mucosal integrity: Foals: 25-30 g every 12 hours (50-60 g per animal per day). Colts and fillies: 50-100 g every 12 hours (100-200 g per animal per day). Continue administration for 4 weeks. Adult horses (400-500 kg): 100-120 g every twelve hours (200-240 g per animal per day). Mix well to feed. Can be administered to nursing foals dissolved in milk, taken with or without a feeding bottle.

Administer using an appropriate gun 30 minutes before stressful events. Introduce the tube deep into the mouth. Dispense the product by pressing the dispensing lever all the way down. One press dispenses 10 g of oral paste. DEFENDER temporarily reduces the gastric mucosa’s absorption capacity and it is therefore recommended to allow at least two hours before oral administration of drugs with a systemic action. In horses, gastric secretion is continuous, which causes a considerable increase in gastric acidity when fasting. It is therefore recommended to leave the horse or foal readily digestible hay in order to avoid even the shortest period of fasting. Reduce the stressful or painful events and debilitating factors.

PACK TYPES 5 kg bucket with measure. Syringe prefilled with 300 g oral paste to be administered using a special dispensing gun not provided in the pack.

ORAL PASTE Gastric mucosal protection: For 3 - 6 days during stressful events. Foals: 3 doses. Colts and fillies: 6 doses.

Keraskin

KERASKIN

Hoof growth

KERASKIN stimulates rapid hoof growth by producing stratum corneum with excellent mechanical properties. BIOTIN promotes keratin formation processes and boosts stratum corneum production. It favours hoof and skin injury repair. The zinc content makes hooves sturdy and improves their mechanical resistance, whereas a deficiency of the same element causes fragility. METHIONINE is a keratin precursor sulfur-

containing amino acid that is involved in skin and hoof formation processes. The high concentration of BIOTIN, METHIONINE and ZINC accelerates hoof growth and lesion repair. It improves the condition and mechanical resistance of the stratum corneum.

Kilotone

KILOTONE Concentrated energy

B-GROUP VITAMINS favour fat metabolism and the oxidative deterioration of fatty acids. As a lipotropic factor, CHOLINE favours lecithin synthesis in the liver. Its deficiency causes fat metabolism disorders. SOY LECITHIN emulsifies fatty acids in the intestine, thereby favouring their digestion and absorption.

Provides concentrated energy (9000 Kcal/Kg) by means of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. During exertion, their oxidative deterioration in the muscle releases large amounts of energy, without producing lactic acid. It is ideal in long-distance sports (endurance, complete), where it helps to prevent an excessive production of lactic acid in the muscles. VITAMIN E has an antioxidant action that protects the muscles. 78

LACTABOLASE Proenergetic, detoxifying antacid

Lactabolase Knock-out

Lactabolase favours the metabolism of lactic acid and the removal of toxins from the body. It corrects the metabolic acidosis caused by strenuous exercise in conditions of inadequate muscle tissue oxygenation. Regular administration of Lactabolase protects the integrity of the muscles and gastrointestinal system from the damage caused by work and stress. Lactabolase stabilises the horse’s athletic condition during intense and prolonged schedules. Lactabolase acts in the muscles and liver to restore intracellular potassium reserves and substances with enzymatic and co-enzymatic actions required for the correct performance of the exasperated metabolic cycles that are typical of racehorses.

Push up

PUSH UP Athletic exertion and recovery

CREATINE is an intermediate by-product of energy metabolism that is synthesised by the liver and it is the only high-energy compound able to increase the concentration of Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in muscle. All tissues use ATP as an energy source for basic metabolism (respiration, blood circulation, digestion, etc.). The mechanism used to produce all the ATP required from the very first few seconds of exertion requires the use of CREATINE (in the form of CREATINE PHOSPHATE). Its use involves the transformation of ADP into ATP through the transfer of the CREATINE PHOSPHATE’s phosphate group to the ADP: CREATINE PHOSPHATE + ADP

Dietary supplementation with CREATINE increases its blood concentration and provides the metabolism with a new ready-to-use energy reserve. TAURINE (BULL-POWER): Vitamin-like substance present in nature that is synthesised in the liver and is present in high concentrations in muscle. In sport medicine, the loss of taurine during exertion is associated with a reduction in athletic performance. TAURINE has a direct influence on muscle contractility, it protects muscle fibres by preventing the occurrence of microlesions and consequently accelerates the recovery phase. Lastly, it boosts the oxidation of fats during submaximal exertion.

BRANCHED-CHAIN AMINO ACIDS BCAA (ISOLEUCINE, LEUCINE, VALINE) The branched-chain amino acids are three amino acids that have to be introduced through the diet as the body is not able to synthesise them autonomously. In addition to the well-known plastic function, branched-chain amino acids can be used to produce energy through gluconeogenesis. Amino acids can, indeed, be used as a source of energy from the very first stages of exertion and their use intensifies in subsequent stages. Amino acid supplementation is therefore recommended in sport horses that practice prolonged exercise such as endurance, because it is precisely this type of exertion that causes deficiency. An amino acid supplement is fundamental both in the stages during which it provides energy and in the recovery stage, during which it repairs damaged muscle fibres (anticatabolic function), thereby favouring the growth of the fibres (anabolic stage). Supplementation with branched-chain amino acids is therefore fundamental in horses requiring great muscular mass for more powerful exertion over a shorter time.
