Cappadocia has a unique urban texture. t has also a unique essence. Natural formations supported this unique texture and essence. The feelings of the Cappadocia are not easily forgotten. Undoubtedly the most important reason for this unique essence is that the natural character of Cappadocia is a very dominant. Cappadocia is a place between dream and reality. There is also a unique architecture in Cappadocia. It's a strange feeling that caves have been carved by people in the past. The search for the place is again assisted by nature. Exactly the opposite of today.

Today, we are pushing the boundaries of artificiality. This artificiality also crushes nature. I preferred to design a space between natural and artificial in Cappadocia. I think it will be suitable for people. Do we not go between artificial and natural already in the day? The greatest damage to the natural formation has again been given by people. Stone and sand quarries made fertile soils dysfunctional. So I thought about how I could turn a sandblock back to its former nature. Because I believe we should give back to those who belong to nature. Just like us.

Genius loci of Cappadocia Cappadocia is the place where people have left their own traces to the existing topogrophy throught history .
People living here start to recognize and understandthe nature. Cappadocia’s nature showing its in finitely diverse facets , allows people to understand how it influences and manages it.

The stone quarry is located between two mountains in NevĹ&#x;ehir at cappadocia. It built by people to evaluate the stones there , but the place has not use been used and left behind.
A unique topography has been formed due to the excavations. in other words there are huge pits in some places, some places have formed hills.
So the soil has lost its efficiency because it was created by digging and agriculture still continues in the fields around the stone quarry.
Time Layer is a accommodation projet that brings new functions to the stone quarry where in Cappadocia and allows the ratio to be reused.
5_first concept collage
In this project focuses on the temporality of the accommodations and the interrelationships of these different time layers are considered.
The common interaction of people who will stay at different times will be realized through agriculture. Agriculture is already in Cappadocia and is still in a certain part of the stone quarry.

The relationship between these differences has been considered in the project, where they are accommodated at different times. It will consist of units where people living there live for long periods, and indigenous people will deal with agriculture. The agriculture will be continued in the existing fields, and at the same time there will be greenhouses made in the hydrophonic and aquaphonic agriculture.Through the forms of these greenhouses, they will be able to produce their own energy conversions by taking advantage of rain water and solar energy. There will be researchers and students who research and develop these agricultural species, as well as the units they will be able to stay there for a certain period of time. Their common areas of research and development will be found so that they will interact with people who live there all the time.

Cappadocia Top View Quarry Top View
The Cappadocia region is the most beautiful place of nature and history in the world. While geographical events created the Peribacalari, in the historical process, people became the houses and churches of these peribacles and adorned them with frescoes, making the traces of ancient civilizations thousands of years old. This is the area covered by Cappadocia Region Nevşehir, Aksaray, Niğde, Kayseri and Kırşehir. The rocky Cappadocia Region, which is a narrower area, consists of Uçhisar, Ürgüp, Avanos, Goreme, Derinkuyu, Kaymakli, Ihlara and its surroundings.
We started to design a lodging area for a stone quarry in the Cappadocia region. The stone quarry has a very large area and there is nothing around it. The stone quarry still extends between the two hills, still functioning. There are many hills formed by the excavations here and some of the existing nature has been damaged. The area of accommodation that we need to design this alanda is completely unique to this place and it has to be associated with this area. It is forbidden to interfere in the natural areas there. And the subject given to us; the accommodation area was a design that was never seen before.
Site Plan of Quarry 1\1000 Model Collage
The collages and the model here were made for the first ideas. I want to design a project that I want to have a networked structure.
Initial Ideas Collages
Notation of Quarry
The notation here is a drawing to understand the land. The red markings here represent electric trailers. It is not appropriate to build a project around these areas. The gray area in the middle represents the stone quarry and the black and white lines indicate the boundaries of the quarry. The elliptical signs on the land represent artificial hills and the circles in the center represent my work area. The parts where the crossing marks are intensive represent the height of the two hills.
In this respect different living spaces will come together to create a different design. The fact that the land is in the middle of nothing gives another advantage. Here it is possible to design a structure that is quite large and totally related to nature. It will be easy to experience the nature, smell and atmosphere of Cappadocia. It was exciting to design a different accommodation area that was such a historical texture. Cappadocia has been home to many people from past to present. I started to work on this tradition and to make the unused stone quarry productive there. I started to design a different accommodation area here, to design a futuristic project according to the wishes of people and the texture of Cappadocia.
Old Houses Photographes
The first thing I noticed when I started this project was the carved houses in Cappadocia. It is possible to see many different places here from these houses. These houses are very old. These houses, built hundreds of years ago, are a very important feature. People who lived here in ancient times built these houses according to their own desires and needs. I mean, no one built these houses and sold them to these people. People have designed and built these houses according to their needs. Therefore, the houses in these areas are completely different from each other. No house is alike. That's why I decided to work on this. So, maybe in the future people will be able to create living spaces according to their wishes and needs again.

Project Development Sketches
I have begun to decide on the machines that will do this knitting in the later stages of the project. Would the ready machines do it, or would the design belong to me? At first I decided to have these machines ready. With these knitting machines fitted to different parts of the land, people would come here and dwell in the living areas as they wanted. But later I realized that putting these machines in certain areas limited the design. Filling all the land with these knitting machines would allow me to use less space. So I decided that these machines should move and I started designing myself. If I came to the accommodation area, I decided to design with a 3d printer, not a spider web anymore. Because this decision is helpful when this project is for the future. On this count, we can actually see that the project has come to a different point.
Initial Ideas Sketches
The drawing on the previous page was originally made for the creation of initial ideas about the project. In this project, I wanted to design a different project using biomimicry. The structure formed by the combination of spider webs creates a very chaotic environment. Purpose of this; to design a structure formed by knitting nets. Because the spider web is a very strong material and it is aimed to create different places by knitting. As we saw in the first collages, the net structure provides a transition between the outside environment and the inside environment. We can easily feel the atmosphere. The first sketches here are drawings made entirely of these webs. It was planned to build accommodation sites by connecting structural networks with a certain structure. They will create these living spaces when they come here by knitting them according to their wishes and needs. Because the structure is suitable for this process, this process will become very efficient. As seen on the right-hand side of the ceiling plank, these woven structures combine to form hollow spaces continuously in the structure. At this point, factors such as air, light, heat, etc. from the outside can be easily felt. Nets will be connected from one column to another by the collapse of thin columns. In this way hammocks will be formed in different elevations and in different planes. But it was very difficult to realize this project because it was a difficult and time-consuming job for a person to come here and build a living space for him. This led to a different way of improving the idea. I decided that the machines had to do the knitting process in this place. On this count, people would not spend time build a building here.

These people will come here and experience different vital situations there. They will be able to have a different experience by staying in the walking machine there for a while. In the areas where these machines are knocked out, people will experience a different experience by staying in a different area. They will feel the atmosphere there and this will be an experience for them. On the sketch above the page we can see an example of the living space there. It is quite different to feel the texture of that material and to feel the light coming from the outside. This knitted area is then completed by knitting with small robots (as seen in the sketch). After this step we will be able to see how the project develops the moving machine.

A 3d printer was designed at the end of the project. Thanks to this printer, the accommodation areas will be constructed according to the needs and desires of the people who come here. This printer has the ability to move anywhere you want to walk. The mechanical properties of the Maakinen are appropriate. Also, thanks to the hammocks in the machine, people who come here can stay here and have the opportunity to experience a different environment. If we were to look at the accommodation of this printer, we could understand some of the model photographs there. People who come here can easily feel the thready texture there and experience the atmospheric environment that this stone oven brings. They will have a different place outside of the known accommodation areas on this vantage point and this will be a quite different experience for them.

I did not prefer to make such a comparison. I tried to find all the available data of the quarry. This resulted in a large topographic analysis. What kind of differences might be the case of quarry? What kind of situation is it to be a quarry ? What are advantages and disadvantages? This analysis yielded results such as hills, hollows, flats, slopes overhanging at short distances.

Shadows of very low descending surfaces at short distances. As a result I decided that I could organize every corner of this topography for an extreme sport.
So there are a lot of surfaces with a lot of potential. As I reading in Christian Norberg-Schulz's Genius Loci: Towards a Phenomenology of Architecture book, I tried to construct the project on the nature of the quarry. I looked for a concept that was suitable.I am interested in contour lines of the quarry. Because it is the factor that makes the most difference.

PROGRAM The program consists of three main sections. Accommodation, dance workshops and concerts. When the place where the project is made is considered, a question mark appears for the concert area. Both the outdoor area and the programs must be intertwined. The question of how the indoor and outdoor areas will be blended is questioned. Programs around an open concert area will be edited. The mechanism of the concert area will be kinetic. it will be a space that can be changed and planned. Concert items, all accommodation and event units are part of these events. and the concert period. The area where the concert area will be built will be united. I want visitors and participants to be in the stone quarry and experience the land.Dance schools and the plan is a place that can be used by schools, groups or individuals who come here for camping in certain periods. Apart from the places where the closed dance venues are built, more spread and free suggestions are available for the dancers to work individually.
Participants and athletes can also give short trainings and transparency so that these areas can be seen while the events are taking place. For accommodation, the areas where dancers, trainers and workers can stay, will be designed, and apart from these areas, the festival participants will be able to offer tent functional units so that they can stay in the festival area in the same way. As a spatial necessity, it is recommended to close the places that are in contact with the stone quarry. Only the stone quarry and the sky can be perceived. and the influence of the atmosphere will be increased. The effect of the sky is strongly a part of the project. Even though the interior sections are planned, a space with many openings is designed. And I feel reduced and closed as circulation.
Cappadocia has a calm and stable structure. It usually repeated with the same colour tones and sequential mountains. It is not on the shore because of the fact that it is inland, and it enhances the feeling of calmness, While understanding cappadocia, factors such as wind, season, poopulation, culture are important to understand soul of the landscape. The stone quarry has it own language. But it is true to

For understanding our project area. There is a situation, that has been dug in its own place. Cappadocia is a region formed by the effects of natural events for millions of years. The fact that the region has been processed both naturally and artificially through this long history is quite striking in terms of context.
For this reasons, the purest goal in the project, is to restore the organic life to this region. As l have mentioned above, the stone quarry has a very dramatic view due to this reasons.
Organic and inorganic layers superposed with each other between over time. The situation is similar on the stone quarry that we are working on. Our project site in Cappadocia where the project is located, is a stone quarry for the purpose of obtaining precious stones. In fact the site, which has an organic life before in this area, it acts like a wound an organism's body after the creation of the stone quarry, the organic life has been destroyed. The situation has given a dramatic appearance to the project area.
Well, how could l bring this dramatic, inspiring and fairytale space more dramatic?
3_plans of the different levels
The project appeals in general to artisans, artists and travelers who ore inspired by the dramoticity of the context.
Cappadocia and stone quarry itself are very inspirational and open areas for production. For these reasons, besides the accommodation factor, education, production, art and design subjects hold very important place in the project.
The accommodation function acts a sort of camping ritual and the guests of the place use it to train and participate in crafts and designs. Thus, education and produdion functions accompanied by an unknown type of accommodation, in the project.

Cappadocia is a historical place. Therefore they give particular importance to historical structures like caves, churcs, chappels‌ etc. They exhibit them when they build new structure. Cappadocia has new, piggy in the middle and old so the genius loci of cappadocia is patchy. They ty unify. They adapted new structures without touching old.
3_notation of fragtal
In the area the most important thing was distinction between quarry and green area. The genius of loci. All area was efficient for something apart from quarry so the genius of loci like wound so I use the wound metaphor. I tried top erk wound. Then a pattern was formed. Pattern create some voids and the voids create the spaces for accommodation. As Martin Heidegger said; As people experience it becomes a dwelling so I design a program and spaces on people experiencing the space.
Exponential lines were used fort he notation of this topography in different elevations. Fort the spread of the project, the degrade painting technique was used. The stone quarry is a region with low productivity and no life, thus the regions that regain the efficiency by settlement of the project, plus the icon symbolizes.

The first time I saw the stone quarry, I felt a sense of space. I was surprised that it was so close to the neighborhood and created such a remote place feeling. It was an endless stone quarry. We could not see the end. I felt tiny there myself. There were giant pits, huge steep inclines. Sometimes the sand goes under our feet. It was a stone quarry that never resembled anything.
The numbers surprised us as we measured the land. We started to use each other as a measurement tool. I was looking for the most suitable land for this project. I wanted to integrate the top of the project, sometimes at the top and sometimes at the top. It was effective when I selected the pit place in the field.

What is the kitchen? Definitely more than a place. It's actually a place that brings us together and lets us spend time. Everyone's a common point. What's a dining table? Conversation? Meet? Or more. This is where everyone can meet, and I wanted to develop accommodation around this idea.
The kitchen and accommodation is a powerful communication tool that connects everybody. How would these accommodation be? How did he not look alike? Perhaps the steel structure would help in this case of non-similarity.

Agriculture is the cultivation and breeding of animals and plants to provide food, fiber, medicinal plants and other products to sustain and enhance life. As we understand from the mean, agriculture actually includes production, processing, storage and marketing in a wide range of fans. Wheat is in the areas of expertise in agriculture such as flour, bread, soda yoghurt, cheese, grapes, pekmez, and wine processing.I would also like to create an accommodation that houses a lot of different things about agriculture and cuisine in the building. One of the starting points of the design is that it is a place that brings different feelings in different elevations, offers many possibilities for accommodation and brings together the incoming buyer.

2_Sketches from various locations of Cappadocia
The genius loci of Cappadocia as a place where does not only contains different layers of history onto each other, but also causes its visitors to subconsciously realize that they are “taking a part” in a certain historic interval as they also spectating one. The reason for that might be is the character of the landscape where the visitors spend their daily routine is almost the same with the places they see as “historical artifacts”. As the history line between today and past becomes blurry in most of the places, it makes a continuous perception of space and time for its visitors.
3_Notationof the Quarry: Axial analysis, spacial inflate and deflations
Analysis of the Quarry When the general characteristic of the site is being evaluated, the most dominant feature of the place is the timeless and lost-in-scale identity of the region. Just like the way that the quarry is being engraved from the old topography of the area, it was defining a whole new spacial perception of the new artifact that needs to be tracked with a notation that provides the site to be recorded under some sort of a mathematical and coordinative order.
Paralel to this idea of rationalising the physical state of the quarry, the linear locations of the electrical towers are chosen as the main axis to show the spacial inflate and deflations throughout the planometric view and to show the sequences in topography -the hills and pitsa grasshopper software parametric code is being used in a way that size and frequency of the circular shapes demonstrates to the motion in the sectional plane of the quarry.
The spacial occupation of the system in larger scale is planned to be done by the gathering of one individual unit in horizontal and vertical directions in a way that generates clusters. The public and semi-public spaces are decided to be formed by the open areas in between those accommodation units.
4_Initial Idea Sketch: Individual accommodation units composes clusters in vertical direction
The design process of the accommodation units started with deďŹ ning one individual accommodation unit. The units are designed in a way that contains multiple chimneys that variably work for three main functions which are ventilation, daylight access and visual contact of the enclosed space with the quarry.

6_Composition of organic units with common architectural elements columns, beams and stairs
7_Ventricular seperation of the spaces in the accommodation units
Organic Formation One of the main concerns in the design of the accommodation units is the relation that the user creates with the bulges and recesses of the units’ interior layer. As there has to be a spacial transition with the voids along the same level in horizontal direction, similar transition wanted to be maintained also in the vertical axis. Due to that, motion in z direction is tried to be solved in the natural form of the accommodation units without needing any extra architectural element. This challenge led the voids in the system to become more condensed and the circulation to be maintained with referencing human body based activities such as climbing and crawling.
Consequently, the concept of the unfamiliar accommodation project is started to shape as creating interior spaces for the visitors to not dominated by the heavy use of the architectural elements but for them to experience the desolated characteristic of the vista itself. The form of every accommodation unit is determined to be in a porous character that has a lack of architectonic complexity of the oor wall and ceiling parts of the units and have an integrity of one pure form and material. As a result of all these, the organic form of the structure is started to resemble with some kind of an organ with its valve and ventricle-like onthologic composition.
8_Conceptual Section Analysis: Adaptation of the organic interior to human body postures
Body and Space As the interior spaces of the initial design idea become more and more dependent on human body and motions, the potentials of the design ideology is needed to be experimented. Parallel to this idea, a solid box is carved out in a way
that oers a continuous change in sectional plane that suits for dierent needs of dierent activities. Eventually, the distribution of programs is made by this physical potentials of the size and proportions of the organic form.
8_Interior Sketches for Communal Areas
Interior Spaces As the programs are diversified and the expected functions from the specialized spaces are got more complex, the volumes started to be required to serve for larger number of people in a way that contradicts with the idea of condensed formation of voids and the transition through slits in between those spaces. So the design process had diverged to a point that the organic layer is being used in a way that encloses a larger space by the integration with other architectural elements such as stairs and inclined floor slabs resulting with more hybrid spaces that works partially as very rational solutons and partially flexes according to the characteristic of the material.
New Functions, New Spaces After the intervention on the structure’s form to manipulate the uses in a way that serves more as public spaces but not just as individual units, the volumes had to be specialized with certain functions. Taking the old desolated state of quarry into account, the use of those public and semi-public spaces should gain programs that provide people to have a reason to visit the structure, and the programs to successfully work. Parallel to this idea, main concern was to find a linkage between the geographical potential of the quarry and certain communal activities.
The design methodology while planning the interior spaces was developed as follows: Firstly, with making a physical model out of polystyrene material by drilling tool for every individual unit, the rough form of the outer membrane of each structure had been determined. After that, the physical models had been 3d scanned and converted into digital platform. All three pieces are rescaled and positioned along the site. Eventually, the rough digital model is divided into rectangular pieces in a way that identiďŹ es the grid framework that the outer translucent membrane will be attached on. When the outer shell is been ďŹ nalized, the work continued with the interior masses. For the form decisions of the interior volumes, tSplines plugin had been used to make a 3d digital model. Function diagrams of the structures had turned into physical responses and the form of the interior spaces had been determined. Finally, for keeping the similar design language with the outer shell, same method of dividing the mass into rectangular pieces had been used and the grid system which the polycarbonate panels will be assembled on, is determined. The interior volumes are positioned inside the previous outer shell.

9_Atmospheric collage: Life on the quarry
The ďŹ nal main function of the structure had been determined as an observatory building that gathers side functions such as research and analysis center, co-working spaces, planetarium, library and places for accommodation. As accommodation function was gaining more like a secondary role of space in the hierarchy of programs in the structure, the main audience that the system refers started becoming as the researchers and the observors visiting the complex.
Fluidity of the Spaces The main idea while connecting the interior volumes was to overthrow the traditional, level by level rising oor slab perception and create new organic volumes that interconnects with each other in a more random way. Due to this aim, the specialized spaces in the structures are not distinguished from each other by common architectural elements of walls and separators,
rather considered as larger volumes which gets joined more in an irregular way. The interconnection parts between the volumes act as bridges which turn into stairs, passages or in-between spaces throughout the circulation results each unit of function to avoid from becoming introverted spaces and rather be a part of the larger uninterrupted circulation system between three structures.

The physical necessities of the unusual form of the structure required the technologic approach on the structure to be like a living organism that serves for a particular function layer by layer. Firstly, the outer membrane: the tensile material for the out covering of the structure is determined to be a translucent membrane that allows the access of the daylight during the day. Secondly, the grid work beneath the membrane that gives that a stable state and a clear form.
