_One of the biggest issues of the Bosphorus was the padestrian roads. TYhe roads were inundated with cars, ďŹ shermans, vales for the cars... _On the site there were places for car cleaning, a carpet washing area. And near the project area there is a nursery garden. Those are the facts that eected the program.

_solidity

_The main design idea was designing a space that brings multiple functions together. While doing that the unit system that applied to the site happened to be a system for understand which programs can relate to each other and help to understand how to connect those functions.

_1 guided _2 presenting _3 following _4 showing

_Every square defines different functions in the program.

_With this kins of structures we can embrace the diversity at the space. This system gives a flexibility to the design. To see how functions get connected can create diversity for different functions.

_The form of the project also helps to distribute the visitors into areas without boundaries.

It seems to me that performative space has a big energy. It is always alive and organic. However its energy reveal when some across another energy. I wanted to bring together the energy of the space and the user. The performative space energised with people. So more people means more energic space. The project area is Kurucesme Car Park. This area is a busy area by its location so this situation supports my aim. Also this area in the Bosphorus.

I think that the Bosphorus is one of the major performative areas. However when i investigated the Bosphorus, I realized that people were having diďŹƒculty reaching the Bosphorus. So i wanted to design a performative space which has spaces about performing art and its education.

142

This spaces should communicate with the Bosphorus. Also the performative space should enable people to reach the Bosphorus easily. I wanted to design transit areas like a canyon. And the facade should support the focusing the Bopshorus Performance.

143

144

I designed the project based on dance. During the design process I aimed to bring together as many different human profiles as possible. I have aimed to achieve performativeness in the project with circulation tools that allow them to navigate between these different human profiles and the different levels they accompany. The program of the project was shaped and elaborated around the dance museum, performance arts center and dance academy.

The facade is made of mesh. The facade consists of holes in varying sizes. These holes sometimes increase and sometimes reduce the relationship between the inside and outside.

Habitat in Bosphorus Mustafa Mert Korkmaz

Performatif Spaces Performative spaces are structures that provide flexibility in movement twithin a building structure, allowing it visually and structurally to interact with its surroundings. Performative capacity can be given by the movement of people around and around the building. The mechanics of the buildingcreate action, with some parts of the building literally being able to move, such as screens, apertures, and furnishings. Performative space work with people’s action like eating and talking in cafe, performing some people and watch the audience’s him, student come and study alone or with a group. If this places give some order to people who spent in time there the place couldn’t get rid of stabile. The people who spent time in some building that their program related to performativity people interact the areas and use flexibility. If building’s program effecting the people’s act, the actions create places for everyone who need to interact it. This effection provided with opennes, depth, structural design typologies. Different programs in a building or a zone there will be some issues like interacting each other or certain limitations of each other therefore this areas programing very sensitively. Powerful Image

Performativity of Bosphorus In the Bosphorus context, my chosen area is being used as a parking space. The general uses of coastal areas of the Bosphorus are several types. These are private property areas, parking lots or public parks. Many are not the places to be used comfortably for people. My proposal with my program is to increase the public activity. Instrumental workshop, musical education, stage performances and accommodation units. In addition, to ensure that the workplaces and different human species communicate with each other and are involved in new productions. Bosphourus has a lot action that make it performative like boats connect two continents and people travel everyday between two continents so people maybe don’t know but they perform everyday. Also views of the Bosphorus but it’s not to easy reach them without making some effort. Seasides always people’s first desire to spending time sometimes alone sometimes with friends. Sitting and drinking a cup of tea or eating something arent easy because of that price or finding place that working for hours without any worry of payment or transportation. Also carparks and private villages arent serving public uses. Throught the inner sides public areas increasing more than seaside. The scenes taken from our Bosphorus documentary, they help that users movement of Bosphorus when creating zones people’s acts and desires help to architectural concept.

In Bosphorus my project field is located near the Reina, it’s a carpark and next to the side, behind the my field there is a coppice forest and near the coppice’s located some villages, left side of the my field furnishing storages also there is a park that but people couldn’t spend time in it because sitting objects don’t exist right side of my field has a big storage.

I aim to design spaces for everyone which related to my programs or not just the poeple who want to spent time in my public areas therefore left side of my field there is a exist park I aim that continue the park throught to my public spaces.

178

My performative space programme include concert hall, makerlabs, offices, ınsturement workshops and educations of ınsturements and those people who related my programme have living part on my facade. The multiporpuse structure get organized that people who related with those areas or not usings together with balancedly.

Area of Freedom in Hisarüstü Özgür Bulut Gümrükcü”

'The Space of Freedom' is trying to be a space that reacts to the influences from within or around it, sometimes it is trying to create new solutions to these effect also sometimes allowing the user to create their own solutions. Analyzes of Hisarüstü's past and present, the interrogations of the relationships it established with his community, how the sociological structure of the neighborhood changed today, how the residents of neighboorhood lived with the Boğaziçi University students, and what kind of life they had in the neighborhood.Students and residents of the neighboorhood ; these two groups of people actually used their public spaces to meet and share their ideas in Dogatepe park and that had been ; by interacting and sharing of the people , in forums organized at the time of Gezi Park events. On the other hand , the fact that Boğaziçi University has been closed to the public has caused the need for a new public space creation both for the visitors and for the students and semi-temporary users in the district, and also for the need for a space to provide solutions for the people of the city to meet with the Istanbul ‘Bosphorus.’

199

WHAT IS THE PROPRSAL OF PROJECT? The Area Of Freedom aims to create new solutions by opening new public spaces, workshops, exhibition areas, sports areas, user-oriented areas, cafes, study areas, animal shelter , a garden for vegitable and plant growing and public dining rooms.

Discoverings from the boshprous seaside through walk which has effected on the idea of the design

needs and functions gathered in the project in the design process to find ‘freedom’ for site

THERE CAN BE A TITLE The area is located in HisarĂźstĂź , next to metro station and BOUN north and south campuses. The place of the project effected on the design concept and facilities placed in the project. The concept is creating spaces for every creature. For people , children , students and animals.

Wood & Loop Zeynep Akyol

Performatif Spaces My definiton of performative space is, working with actions, like chef uses food, writer uses words, architect works with performance and actions, that happening in the space. If a regular building gives instructuions about how to act ; in performative space those instructions are twisted and changed. Some things might be there, sometimes not. 1_Powerful image

The visitors are there to interact with the space. It is like having an experience with a building. Sometimes building can tell one thing and other time it can tell another thing. Sometimes structure does not even have to have a shape or definable limits, scale surface, attribution, depth.Performance of the building can be measured by the interaction between the building and all people who are interacting with it. It has very dangerous and powerfull effect on people, we exist through our experiences and memories, that gives the structure big responsibilities.

3_plan of section slice

2_info section

How we felt in that space, effects our experience and that willl record to the memories. So performative space means kind of effecting the subject, people. Sometimes a bridge can be performative and art showing center can not be performative

4_Fragments of Bosphorus Documentary

Performativity of Bosphorus

Bosphorus also has quite good and wide history. Bosphorus also good place to work and production, the view and the silence of the area made me choose Beylerbeyi. I aim to create a working space and a restaurant which provides organic food that grow ups in my side.

We walk through the seaside from Beylerberi to KanlÄąca and I realized that sea sides are mostly serve as housing and cafes, cars ect.. Only a small part of the way is belong to the public.

5_typographic site plan

Performative space in the context of Bosphorus; There is a lot of action that makes Bosphorus a performative space. Even the water that connects two big continent is alive and has a lot of s pecies inside. It has its own movements and habitat like fish, birds, plants, ect..On the water there are water vehicles which is perform as transformation between two continent. They are steambots, boats, yachtes. There is also another way on the ground that we can count like bridges between continents. So transformation and connection of two continents is in itselft a performative action. The other side of performativity is about view. People go seasides, parks, restaurants, hills to see the Bosphorus view. View causes actions like having a cup of the accompanied the view like going for a walk or run by the see, taking photographs and eating and paying much more than it cost because of the money ect.. And there is swimming side of it, it is not so populer now but water itself was more accessible before to swim. There is also diving into water which is another experience and performative action in addition to swimming.

231

6 site plan

My site is on Beylerbeyi, near to Beylerbeyi Palace. It is a car park, there is a nursery one side, other side is car park and go card area and there is an Primary school in front of it. My site is not on seaside but very close. I am to design a wood studio which will use the dead trees on the nursery for making furniture etc.. There will be also workshop area, for providing courses to the local area such as, wood painting, wood carving. I also aim for designing landscape appropriate to sports like skating, running, cycling.

10_Viewing platform by StĂŠphane Meyrant

9_grace farms by sanaa

8_ landscape formation 1 by Zaha Hadid

This three structure is fluid and curvey, they are inspired from nature, river, landscape etc..Viewing platform is creating a route for viewing the nature and having different experiences at different points. Grace farm creates fluidity on a big empty space.

232

11_Site photographs

My site is right nex to the a connection road (between ĂźskĂźdar and beylerbeyi) and that road is make the landscape like a splay but it is very flat. There are important old trees on the area like date-palm.

233

12_exterior collage

Design I aim to create an inside area by courtyard and atrium that everyone on that facility can meet at that public yard (workes, designers, visitors ect..)

13_interior collage

First I decided to make to different place for working area and public workshop areas. I thought slopy walkable roofs and offices thats sizes can be changed by the user.

234

I aim to create routes for different activities like wandering around or cycling ect. The landscape is flat but I want to change this flatness by making a structure like a sneak, fluid. It will get higher and get lower at some parts, will expand and will shrink according to facility.

235

15_story board

14_program diagram

16_plan

I’ve tried to connect private and semi private places with courtyards and routes.

I made routes which takes people to plant gardens or skate areas, or just stroll around the structure.

236

17_sections

The routes will have other purposes than just taking people that points, they will break the planarity of the landscape. Each one will lead the people, they will offer different experience with the structure.
