Then in the afternoon, we have guided tours of both the Mediaeval Museum and Bishop’s Palace by costumed actors. The Mediaeval Museum is in a stunning modern building and the Bishop’s Palace is an authentic 18th century Georgian grand residence.

C | We head into the Wicklow Mountains National Park, known as the Garden of Ireland, and visit Glendalough. For thousands of years people have been drawn here for its spectacular scenery, rich history and abundant wildlife. We return by a different route to complete a circular tour, and we have free time in the afternoon to explore Enniscorthy.

Thursday We have a take away breakfast from the hotel and catch the morning ferry back to Wales. The holiday is not yet over as we make a lunchtime stop in Carmarthen. PLEASE NOTE: We will not be in Ireland for St Patrick’s Day.

Spring on Lake Garda, including Verona!

Riva del Garda

8 Days - Sat 23rd March 2024

+£260 Single Supplement

Lake Garda is one of the most stunning locations in Europe! The lake includes three regions and encompasses colourful and diverse lakeside towns, each offering a new experience and we visit five including Riva del Garda itself. Riva del Garda sits on the lakeshore overshadowed by spectacular mountains. There is a pretty and historic centre, great shops and peaceful lakeside walks. Even the journey there and back is stunning as we pass through the Alps. We are using a new hotel this year, the Hotel Europa. It overlooks the picturesque harbour and is only a few steps from the pretty public gardens, cafes, and shops. There is also a gala dinner on one evening followed by live music.

Saturday To France and on to our overnight hotel.

Sunday We continue through the Alps to Italy and our hotel for five nights, where we are met with a welcome drink.

Tours whilst at resort

A | We do not venture far today but visit two towns on the east bank of Lake Garda. First to Malcesine, a medieval town perched on the edge of Lake Garda under the shadow of Monte Baldo. Then to the town of Garda which gives the lake its name. The promenade boasts great views of the Sirmione peninsula, and the old town has shops, restaurants and numerous villas and palaces showing its rich history.

B | We visit Verona, a city alive with myths and home to a huge Roman arena plus Romeo and Juliet’s balcony.

C | A relaxing tour of the southern end of Lake Garda. We make stops on the pretty peninsula of Sirmione where the town has a mediaeval centre and lovely piazza. Then to Salo, with its long promenade along the lakefront and a small but attractive old town. You can clearly see the original mediaeval layout of the town, based around its cathedral and there are charming streets of colourful tall houses with shops at ground level.

D | A free day to relax and enjoy your surroundings. Maybe visit a lakeside town that we haven’t visited by boat? (not included).

Friday We return to the same hotel.

Saturday To Calais and we return home.

Hotel Europa, Riva del Garda 4-star hotel in the heart of Riva del Garda set overlooking the square and harbour. It also has a rooftop terrace with a plunge pool. SATELLITE TV | LIFT | BAR WIFI hoteleuropariva.it
