WRITES

Darren Currie

Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to The Hive! Over the last two games I believe there were 60 or 70 of you that followed us to Hartlepool, and I appreciate that as always. Over the 100 mark to come to Harrogate on a Tuesday night after the Hartlepool result is a massive credit to the fans. At the minute, I appreciate it even more because we’re not giving you guys too much to clap about. I ask that you continue to support myself and the team and help us through this period and just know that as a group - myself as a manager and ex player - we’re trying as hard as we possibly can to turn this situation back into a positive one.

I stress whether it’s on the back of a few bad performances, a couple of defeats or when we were winning games like when we went three back-to-back, my message is still the same.

Stay with us, stick together and we’ll have a much better chance of being successful.

CAPTAIN

SKIPPER’S NOTES

Good afternoon, Bees fans and welcome back to The Hive. Two long journeys in a few days are out of the way now so it will be fantastic to be back on home soil and back on grass! The effort that the fans have made over the past few days have been massive and on behalf of all of the team, we can’t thank you enough. On a personal note, I’ve been so relieved to have overcome my illness and it was great to be back out on the pitch. I felt good during the Harrogate game and I can’t wait to get back out there this afternoon.

going back and ultimately, a lot harder to score against. We can’t take any opposition for granted because not too long ago, we played Ebbsfleet who were rock bottom at the time and got turned over. League positions really don’t matter heading into these games. We know they have players that can hurt us, and they’ll be fighting for their lives.

We’re well aware of the situation we find ourselves in at the moment. The performances haven’t necessarily been bad but we’re conceding far too easily and far too often.

It’s up to us to impose our game on them and come away with the three points.

It makes it very difficult to comeback from when you find yourself behind early, but we’ve been working extremely hard behind the scenes to make sure we’re more resolute

COME ON YOU BEES!

CHORLEY

OPPOSITION

History Chorley FC began life as a rugby club, before switching to association football in 1883. Known as The Magpies since the 1890s because of their distinctive black and white striped shirts, the Club have played in six different leagues during a 135-year existence. After a series of friendly matches against Wigan, Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers in the 1880s, Chorley joined the Lancashire Junior League in 1889. The following year the league became the Lancashire Alliance, where the Club played through 1894 before leaving to join the Lancashire League. They also competed in the Lancashire Combination and Cheshire County League before becoming a founder member of the Northern Premier League in 1968. Promotion as champions of the NPL in ’88 resulted in The Magpies highest finish on the English football pyramid the following year (17th in the Football Conference), before they succumbed to relegation back to the NPL in 1990.

13

BARNETFC.COM

After the brief spell in the fifth tier, Chorley slipped slowly down through the divisions and flirted with relegation to the North West Counties League. Then, with the appointment of Gary Flitcroft as manager in 2010, the Club began a remarkable revival. Two promotions in four seasons saw The Magpies, roared on by an average crowd almost five-times higher than during the Noughties, catapulted into the National League North after a final day victory at Buxton in April 2014 secured a second NPL championship crown. In what was to be Flitcroft’s last season in charge, the Club almost made a triumphant return to the Football Conference. Unfortunately, The Magpies failed to win a secondsuccessive promotion after losing the NLN play-off final 3-2 to Guiseley in May 2015. Assistant manager Matt Jansen took the reins that summer, and although The Magpies missed a play-off berth in 2015/16, they returned the following season only to lose a second play-off final. This time in front of over 8,000 fans at FC Halifax Town. Yet another play-off appearance was booked in April 2018. However,

CHARITY COLLECTION Barnet Hospital Charity is a charity committed to making the hospital a nicer environment for patients, volunteers and staff. There projects include providing free massage therapy to patients and care packs to those who have been admitted through A&E and have brought nothing with them. All money raised will go to Barnet Hospital. This afternoon, Barnet Hospital Charity will be performing a collection at the Hive in order to expand their successful massage therapy service.

The massage therapy was launched at Barnet Hospital in April 2015 and it is about treating the person and not the illness, and for many patients, it is the high point of the day. The service is available to oncology and haematology patients on the Mulberry ward and was expanded in November 2015 to maternity patients. They hope to raise well needed funds to extend it to be more widely available to other patients in the future.

THE BEES FELL TO DEFEAT AT THE CMG STADIUM AS THEY WERE PUNISHED BY TWO FIRST HALF GOALS FROM THE HOSTS. DESPITE DAVID TUTONDA HALVING THE DEFICIT FOR THE BEES THEY COULDN’T FIND WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A DESERVED EQUALISER IN THE SECOND HALF.

HOW IT HAPPENED Simeon Akinola created the first opening of the game as he saw a snapshot go just wide of the far post. But it was the Bees who fell behind as Muldoon fired home at the second attempt after the ball fell to him from a corner kick. After the goal Mauro Vilhete had a golden chance to bring the Bees level as he twisted and turned in the area, but his shot was brilliantly saved by Belshaw in the Town goal. Then almost immediately it was two goals for the hosts as the ball went through to George Smith who fired past Loach. Once again a two goal deficit was cruel on Darren Currie’s side. The deficit was almost halved as Cheye Alexander played a great ball into the area but his cross just evaded Akinola in the centre. But nine minutes before the break we did get a well deserved goal as the ball fell for David Tutonda who poked home to bring us back into the game. This saw Barnet get their tails up and they dominated the latter stages of the first half as they took the game to Town. Into the second half and Vilhete’s dangerous cross was headed over by Dan Sweeney as the Bees looked to start the second half as they finished the first.

FC

The Bees continued to press on the Town team but were limited to a handful of openings that were hacked clear by the Harrogate back-line. The game sparked into life after what looked like a nasty challenge from John Stead on Sweeney which resulted in a straight red card for the veteran striker. Johnson then put in a superb cross that Vilhete missed out on by inches, any contact and surely the Bees would have been level. The Bees continued to dominate going into six minutes of added time and could have taken a point right at the end but were denied by a superb double save as Belshaw saved from Vilhete then made a point blank stop from Josh Walker which turned out to be the final change.

TEAM NEWS Darren Currie made two changes from Saturday’s defeat to Hartlepool United as Elliott Johnson and James Dunne came into the side in place of the injured Ricardo Santos and suspended Jack Taylor. London Bees team: Loach, Alexander, Johnson, Reynolds (C), Dunne, Akinola, H Taylor, Vilhete, Elito (Walker ‘80), Tutonda, Sweeney. Unused subs: Matrevics, Syla, Fonguck, Mason-Clark

Chorley won the Northern Premier League title in 1987-88. They failed to win either of their opening two games but a 2-1 victory at Workington started one of the best sequences of results in the club’s history. Ken Wright’s side lost only three times in 33 matches, winning 22 and picking up 74 points. The incredible run included a 17 match unbeaten run. Highlights included a record 9-0 demolition of Workington and 6-1 win at Gainsborough. Injuries and suspensions enabled Hyde United to close the gap at the top but Chorley clinched the title with a 1-1 draw at Matlock in their last game of the season, securing promotion to the Conference for the first time.

Chorley won the Northern Premier League title in 2013-14. Garry Flitcroft’s side were unbeaten in their opening eight games, with Darren Stephenson grabbing a hat-trick in a 6-2 victory at home to Trafford. They overcame a 1-0 defeat at Skelmersdale and seven straight wins included 5-0 triumphs over Trafford and Droylsden. James Dean scored three times in a remarkable 13-1 victory at home to Droylsden as the Magpies finished with an eight match unbeaten run. Leading marksman James Dean, Josh Hine and Darren Stephenson scored over half of Chorley’s 107 goals as they won the title with 97 points, pipping FC United of Manchester by a single point.

Chorley won 25 of their 44 matches as they qualified for the play-offs in third place, boasting the second-best defensive record in a title race dominated by Chester and Skelmersdale United. They beat Curzon Ashton 2-1 in the Northern Premier League First Division (North) play-off semi-finals, then defeated AFC Fylde 2-0 in the final at Victory Park.

Chorley won promotion to the Conference National in 2018-19. The Magpies won their first seven matches and remained unbeaten in their first twelve. They spent most the season at the top of the Conference North but were pipped to the championship by Stockport County right at the end, finishing a point behind in second place. Jamie Vermiglio’s side beat Altrincham 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the play-off semi-final. The score in the final between Chorley and Spennymoor at Victory Park was 1-1 after extra-time and the Magpies triumphed 4-3 in a dramatic penalty shoot out to secure a return to Non-League’s highest tier for the first time in 29 years.

HOW IT HAPPENED The Bees started the brighter of the two teams and almost took the lead in the opening two minutes as Cheye Alexander’s strike was deflected wide of the post. 30

However, on six minutes they fell behind as Kabamba swept home after the ball broke to him just inside the box, it was harsh on the Bees who had all the running in the opening stages and looked the better of the two.

Darren Currie’s side almost found an equaliser straight away as a quick counter attack fell at the feet of Josh Walker but his effort was blocked away by a Pools defender. The Bees continued to keep possession and had a number of set pieces but couldn’t quite find the opening to trouble ‘Keeper Ben Killip. Andre Boucaud saw an effort blocked when it looked certain to fly into the bottom corner after the ball broke to him from a corner. On 27 minutes it was two for the hosts as we were punished for making the most of our time on the ball, it was Kabamba again who netted past Loach to double his and his sides tally for the afternoon. It was harsh on the Bees who were the better of the two teams in the first half but didn’t have a goal to show for their work at Victoria Park. Into the second half and Loach had to be at his best as he denied Kabamba on two occassions with his legs when the number nine rushed through on goal. It went from bad to worse for the Bees were reduced to 10 men as Jack Taylor was sent off for a second bookable offence. The red card killed off the Bees chances of a comeback and the hosts kept the ball well and alomst went further ahead as Toure curled towards the top corner but Loach denied him brilliantly. The Bees had chances through Mason-Clark and James Dunne but again Killip wasn’t called into action on a frustrating afternoon for Currie’s side.

WHAT’S THE BUZZ

What’s the

Buzz?

On Monday this week saw the Football League’s current longest serving manager resign from his post and join a new club. Jim Bentley left his post at Morecambe after spending a total of 17 years at the Lancashire side, of which eight of them were spent as manager. He had initially joined the side as a player back in 2002, signing from Telford United, and went on to play over 300 times for the club, before hanging up his boots and becoming manager in 2011. He then became the longest serving manager in the top four tiers of English football in June 2018, when the previous holder of the title, Paul Tisdale, left Exeter City. He now joins National League AFC Fylde. “It’s been an emotional couple of days, but it’s for the right reasons - I’m coming to a new venture now which I’m really excited about” said Bentley. “I’m very proud of the job I’ve done there, but I want a CV that shows promotions as much as the survival”. He leaves the Shrimps in bottom place in League 2, having won just two league games all season, and having picking up just ten points.

Former Premier League defender George Elokobi jumped into the stand to confront some fans after a game on Tuesday night. The Cameroonian, who played for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the top flight, was playing in a National League South game for his new side Maidstone United, in an away fixture against Braintree Town. The home side had conceded eight goals in their last two games, and had lost three out of their past four games. Maidstone were 1-0 up, and had just conceded a last minute equaliser when the incident occurred. Elokobi, who also played for Nottingham Forest, Bristol City and Braintree on loan back in 2016, jumped over the wall behind the goal and confronted a fan, with a video recorded by some fans showing some strong language was used. It is still unclear what caused the incident.

What’s the Buzz? will be at home to Canvey Island, Royston will host Haywards Heath Town, and Enfield Town will entertain Thatcham Town. Biggleswade Town will also be travelling to Metropolitan Police, whilst Kings Langley will go to Salisbury. The ties are also set to take place next weekend.

As you are probably already aware, the draw for next weekends’ FA Cup first round has taken place, with the Bees hosting League 1 Fleetwood Town here at the Hive next weekend. There is a guarantee that at least nine non league sides will progress to round two, with there being eight ties involving two non league sides, plus lowest ranked Chichester City being drawn as a bye. Chichester are the first side since the 1949/50 season (70 years ago) to have made it to the second round proper after having started at the very first stage of the competition, the extra preliminary round. Another draw that has taken place this week is that for the FA Trophy second qualifying round, which has several of our local sides taking part in it. Our recent FA Cup opponents Potters Bar Town face a long away trip to the winner of the replay between Cinderford Town (Gloucestershire) and Merthyr Town. Haringey Borough

In a strange and messy turn of events, a club who has qualified for the FA Trophy second qualifying round will now not be playing a game when all the other ties are set to be played next weekend. Hitchin Town were due to play Bedfont Sports in the first qualifying round last weekend, with the winners having been drawn to play at home against the winner of the replay between Paulton Rovers and Larkhall Athletic. However, it was found that Bedfont had fielded an illegible player in their preliminary round win against Grays Athletic. The FA ruled that Bedfont had not reasonably known that the player in question was illegible to play, so that tie now needs to be replayed next weekend (when ties two rounds 37

BARNETFC.COM

ahead are being played). Hitchin will then play the winner of that game the following week, with the winner of that tie then playing the winner of this weeks Paulton / Larkhall replay. Then the following week the eventual winner of the second qualifying round tie will be entered into the third qualifying round, which draw takes place next Monday, which is again expected to have a knocked on affect.

With the draw for the FA Vase second round proper having taking place two weeks ago now, this weekend sees that round of fixtures take place, with there being yet more of our local sides taking part in it. Colney Heath are going to be at home to Stowmarket Town, whilst Walthamstow will entertain AFC Uckfield Town, based in East Sussex, and FC Broxbourne Borough face an away trip to Leighton Town. Other notable ties in the round include Bishop Auckland against West Auckland Town, Northwich Victoria vs Wythenshawe Town, Worcester City’s home game against Dunkirk, and Consett’s visit to Irlam.

What’s the Buzz? furthest a team from the division has ever gone in the cup.

With the fourth round stage having taken place last month, the draw for the Scottish Challenge Cup quarter final has recently been made, and it involved both of the National League sides that entered the competition. This is the second season that English sides have entered Scotland’s third cup competition, with Boreham Wood and Sutton United taking part last season, alongside clubs from Ireland, Northern Ireland and Wales. Wrexham are through to the last eight after a home win against St Mirren U21, having defeated Ayr United at home in the previous round. Having beaten Kelty Hearts away in the last round, Solihull Moors faced Rangers U21 at home in round four, with that tie having taken place some time after the others, and after the draw had been made. The quarter final draw threw out a potentially interesting draw, with Wrexham being made to travel to the winner of the Solihull – Rangers tie, potentially giving an all National League tie. However, Solihull were defeated on penalties by Rangers, leaving no English sides left in the tournament, and Wrexham being the only National League side remaining, marking the

After losing three out of their last four games in all competitions, including being knocked out of the FA Cup at the fourth qualifying round stage by Torquay United, as well as losing at home to a struggling and managerless AFC Fylde in the league, Boreham Wood manager Luke Garrard has criticised his players. “I need a team of players that would run through a brick wall for me – at the minute, they couldn’t run through tracing paper”, he said. “I thought we were flat, I thought we were naïve. Our performance was very lacklustre, and we didn’t deal with them at all” he continued. Fylde finished 5th in the National League last season, and lost to Salford City in the playoffs, but have been struggling in the league so far this season, and currently lie in 19th place, just four points off of the relegation zone. “This league is relentless. No matter who you’re playing against, they will always be a threat. If you feel like you can turn it on and off in the National League, you will get a rude awakening”. The FA have charged National League side Hartlepool United after reports of racist chanting by some of their 38

BARNETFC.COM

fans, which held up their game against Dover Athletic. The game in question took place at Victoria Park on 21st September, and Dover forward Inih Effiong was reported to have been racially targeted after scoring a penalty.

The incident caused the game to be delayed for a while, with the Pools going on to pick up two red cards before losing the game 2-0. The club said that they need to “set the example on how to respond to matters such as this”, after being accused of not ensuring spectators conducted themselves properly. “We will continue to explore all avenues of education and improvement in that regard” the statement continued. “In previous statements, we’ve made clear our condemnation of individuals’ behaviour during the fixture and have continued to underline our position on discrimination or abuse of any kind through our actions rather than words”. Managers of both sides said that they had discussed taking their players off of the pitch due to the incident.

HARTLEPOOL AWAY POSTCARD In preparation for our long trip to the North East for Hartlepool away, I came home to Leeds on Friday night to make the journey a bit easier. My parents and I left Leeds around 11:30 on Saturday morning to head up north, stopping off in Redcar for some food on my request. The classic north eastern delicacy of a pineapple ring and chips was on the cards as well as an ice cream on the sea front (despite the freezing wind!) We left to head to Hartlepool and due to traffic en route, we were starting to worry that we could miss kick off. We found parking near the ground and hurried towards it, picking up a programme on our way. Luckily, I was in my seat just as the ref blew for the game to kick off – talk about good timing! Just 6 minutes in, Hartlepool took the lead with Kabamba managing to score after a mix up at the back. However, as the game settled down we started to play some decent football with Jack Taylor going forward and captain for the day, Harry Taylor, controlling the game well in the middle. On 27 minutes, Kabamba managed to double the hosts lead. It was a slightly weird goal as I thought the ref was stopping play to give a free kick but the advantage was given instead and he was able to score. Towards the end of the half, we were doing well to get the ball into the final third but weren’t able to convert it into anything. This meant we went into half time with all the work to do. Of course I had to get a hot chocolate at half time to get over how cold it was! We started the second half well with attacking play and the introduction of Mason Clark in search of a goal. Things got harder for us when Santos was forced off through injury. But, on 60 minutes, Loach did so well making a brilliant save to deny Kabamba his hattrick. On 64 minutes, things got worse when Jack Taylor received a second yellow card for a heavy challenge, leaving us with 10 men for the remainder of the game. Both teams had chances going forward in the rest of the game but there were no more goals and we lost 2-0. We walked back to the car hearing some nice comments about our performance from the Hartlepool fans on our way. We headed back to Leeds taking a detour via Seaton Carew for the seaside view on our way. We were home by 7pm so we could have a night of takeaway and Strictly after another nice away day in Hartlepool.

WHAT’S THE BUZZ

Alex Jones Digresses Chorley

Colne but Not Forgotten

5th May 1990, Barnet last travelled to Chorley in hope rather than anticipation of promotion. Despite a 4-1 victory, a brace of goals for both Andrew Clarke, and Gary Bull, other results did not go our way, so it was to be another year before Fisher and elevation to the Promised Land of the Football League. Not a good day for Chorley either as their brief spell in the Conference ended after just two years, but now they are back. At present they are struggling, but there are any number of teams of which that could be said, so will not be underestimated this afternoon.

Watched the Red button coverage of the tie at Potters Bar, then a couple of days later , relived their equalising goal, once again on the BBC Sports football website. My eyes chanced to alight on the story of Colne Dynamos, who briefly rose to challenge for a Football League place a few years after triumphing in the FA Vase. The investment behind their success was provided by Graham White, yet after ground grading denied them promotion to the Conference, he dissolved them in 1990, for a while. Eventually, some six years later, there was a phoenix club, Colne FC. Alan Kennedy, the former Liverpool star declared that “wherever you are in Colne you were on a hill”. Hence the article, as like Potters Bar they were aiming for their first appearance in the First Round proper. Unlike the Scholars however, there was to be no glory on this occasion, as Gateshead triumphed 5-0. Returning to Mr Kennedy however, his current well-earned retirement, includes Walking Football, so he was interviewed for the Times, and I was able to take a picture of the article for Shaun Ashley Sherrick and his band of brothers.

Celebrating Non League Day We were home to Woking when this happened but I draw your attention to the BBC News website in the days leading up to the event. They had a fascinating montage of pictures, some in conjunction with When Saturday Comes. The photos were from all over the British Isles, and included Glossop North End and Vale of Leven. There is no one alive who can remember when either of these sides competed in the Football Leagues of their respective countries. Indeed the former has the peculiar honour of being the smallest town ever to compete in the English top flight. In the 1900 season, they must have been happy when things came to an end with just four victories, and, unsurprisingly, relegation. Of the eleven photos, I only recognised Matlock Town, where a couple of Barnet fans on the official coach, descended at the turn of the decade, when the midweek fixture was called off, inevitably at Rochdale.

FSF The last round of International matches once again highlighted the unacceptable face of football, but I heard a story a few days before the Sofia scandal, which shows they are still good people out there. The son of a good friend of mine from both University and secondary school was mugged out in Slovakia. Ed was not hurt but understandably shocked as money was swiped from his hand, no sooner than it left the cashpoint machine. I was able to put his in touch with Paul Corky, a Cardiff fan

who has links with the FAW and was out in Eastern Europe also.

World cup You wait for one World Cup Final, then just like 251 buses, two come along at once. Good luck England this morning, who triumphed despite Rhiannon performing the Haka most convincingly at my local bar.

Social Media Every so often a new Barnet related site pops up, and such a venture is the Facebook 1888 site, which consists largely of pictures ranging from players, to pictures and Programmes. Jamie Loveday is the curator, and it is refreshing to see positive thoughts, and memories evoked for people of all ages. Check it out, and I’m sure they would welcome contributions.

Nice one Cyril My final BBC inspired feature forecast on Mascots. My top five favourites of all time countdown….. 5. Gunnersaurus representing the Arsenal- a big cuddly green dinosaur- what is there not to love? 4. Mr Bumble who last year won the coveted Lester Finch Award 3. Swagger the Bull Mastiff, who, Charlie Webster writes was a real dog and represented the Cleveland Browns in American Football, and is now enjoying a well earned retirement 2. Hangus the Monkey, who I was lucky enough to meet, and is the only mascot to become a town mayor, up in Hartlepool’ our opponents of last week. 1. Cyril the Swan. - For obvious reasons my favourite and even more mischievous than Hangus. His crimes included beheading the Milwall Lion, Zamba, and, along with a few other animal mascots, playing Dai Bach Y Knocker on the door of Robbie Williams. Let Me Entertain You, indeed.

doubt that Grishma is a worthy winner of this award. Everyone at London Bees would like to congratulate Grishma on this magnificent achievement – keep up the good work!

Everyone at London Bees was thrilled to present the Jack Petchey award for outstanding achievement to Grishma Patel at half time during yesterday’s game against Crystal Palace.

For more information on the PL Kicks campaign visit the community section of the Barnet FC website!

Head of Bees in the community and group marketing manager Daniel Martin presented Grishma with her award and as a token to celebrate her superb achievement she was also presented with a signed Bees shirt on The Hive London pitch (See picture above)

Grishma’s story We first met Grishma, she had met our coaching team when she attended some our PL Kicks sessions on an ad hoc basis and then later trailed out for the London Youth Games team, we were running for Harrow council. She was an avid sports fan loved to participate in football and desperate to become part of the team. She, unfortunately, she didn’t make the team that year but she didn’t let that stop her. Grishma quickly became a session regular and worked closely with our coaching team learning the ropes of coaching, Grishma had so much enthusiasm and grew in confidence and ability as she continued to work with us. Grishma has been with us for almost a year, she has now taken real ownership during sessions, with assistance from our coaches showing her how to most effectively structure sessions, Grishma now leads small group activities and referees’ games by herself. She has even now started to progress into coaching within her school environment and takes lead on football and cricket session for younger students. Grishma has even inspired her siblings to come and get involved in the Premier League Kicks project too! As a result of her selfless and inspiring work – there is no

Rutherford netted the opening goal of the game 10 minutes before half time, before Bianca Baptiste doubled the advantage just after the break. However, the Bees fought back as what looked to be an own goal and a Merrick Will strike brought Lee Burch’s side, only for Palace to create a rare late attack to snatch what would have been a wellearned point. The opening 25 minutes was a cagey affair as both sides looked to seize an early advantage, the Eagles came the closest as Leeta Rutherford stung the palms of Quantrill in the Bees goal. Up the other end, Lauren Pickett looped a strike onto the roof of the net after it looked like she had beaten Palace ‘keeper Lucy Gillett. The visitors took the lead on 36 minutes as Rutheford let fly from distance and it went straight into the back on the net leaving Quantrill with no chance. It could have been two before the break but Georgia Robert put in a goal-saving tackle to keep the score at 1-0. After the break, it was two for the visitors as Baptiste cut inside to fire into the bottom corner and extend the Eagles advantage on a chilly afternoon in North London. But five minutes later the deficit was halved as a defensive error saw a backpass trickle over the line, Whinnett looked like she got a faint touch but on second viewing it was an own goal that brought the Bees back into it.

PALACE

On 58 minutes the Bees were level as Megan Alexander’s cross broke to Merrick Will on the edge of the box who fired into the goal, to score two in as many matches. It was no less than Burch’s side deserved as they dominated large spells of the second half. It then looked like the Bees would be the only team to go on and win it as they created numerous openings, but were denied by quick goalkeeping and a few last-ditch clearances to keep the scores level. For all their openings Burch’s side couldn’t quite create the clear cut opportunity they needed to take the lead. As the game looked to be heading for a draw the visitors snatched all three points as a defensive mix up eventually found Rutherford who slotted home to the devastation of everyone from a London Bees persuasion. It was cruel on the Bees as they had done enough in the second half to at the very least settle for a point. Burch will look to bounce back when we face yet another London derby as we host Charlton Athletic in the Conti Cup back at The Hive next Sunday (14:00 KO).
