We would like to welcome our supporters back to The Hive London for today’s Buildbase FA Trophy Third Round match against Boreham Wood. I remember winning this competition as a player and I would love to win it here. The FA Trophy is important and it would be great to go on a cup run this season. You need to earn your luck in the cup and it is all about the result at the end of the game. We have practiced penalties this week but we are hoping to get the job done in 90 minutes. We are really excited for the game because of the challenge that Boreham Wood provides. They are unbeaten in their last eight games and have only conceded two goals in the process. Luke Garrard has put them in a great position, so it should be a good test for us on Saturday afternoon. We would like to thank everyone for their positive support over the last few months. We understand how challenging it can be financially to come and cheer on the lads, especially around Christmas time. Your support is greatly appreciated. Our players will continue to give their all for us so that we can continue to build the togetherness we have, which is so important in football. Given the current situation, we know how difficult it is for some people and families right now and we would like everyone to stay safe. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Barnet supporters a very merry Christmas and a safe and enjoyable 2022!

BARNET OVER 50’S BARNET WALKING FOOTBALL TEAM RAISES £1,856 FOR CRISIS FOR CHRISTMAS December has been a busy month for the team as we held our Crisis for Christmas sessions where we raised an amazing £1,856! This will provide two weeks of shelter and food as well as advice on how to break the homeless cycle for 60 people! We are incredibly pleased that we raised this much for such a good cause. We then supported Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign and dedicated one of our recent sessions to raise awareness for the LGBTQ+ community and ongoing No Room for Racism campaign. We want to support everyone and encourage people to play football without fear of abuse. We also visited the Colindale Community Garden where we helped repair the poly tunnel to ensure that the food grows properly throughout the winter months. Towards the end of November, we received an invitation to appear on the Age UK Barnet Zoom Sports Show. It was wonderful to see the hard work that they are doing. We would like to give a special mention to the team, who continues to work tirelessly in the community. So as the year comes to an end, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and healthy 2022! Come on you Bees!

TODAY’S LOOK AHEAD
Jordan, how have you found the week in training? “It has been really good this week. “We did not get the result we wanted last weekend at Yeovil Town, but we have had a good solid week in training and we are preparing well for the game against Boreham Wood. “We are all looking forward to the match.” How important is it that we can bounce back with a positive result against Boreham Wood? “Yes, it is very important that we can get another win under our belts. “They are going to be a tough side to beat, and we know that having played them in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round. “I think that we should have won that day though because our performance deserved it. “I am really looking forward to the challenge and we are certainly ready for it.” You were involved in our most recent match against Boreham Wood in the FA Cup earlier this season. What did you learn from that experience and what are you going to take from it into this weekend? “They are a very experienced side who know what they are doing. “Boreham Wood are a very physical and have a lot of technical players, so it might be one of our toughest tests so far. “We put in a good performance against them last time, so we are hoping to do the same, but come out with a better result.” Jamie Turley and Reiss Greenidge are now regulars in the team, having spent the first part of the season out injured. What have they been like to play alongside?
“Both are commanding centre-backs that are good to play with. “Turley is a great skipper and Greenidge leads by example in his performances. “Having them two at the back, alongside myself, is great to learn from and I have got a lot of confidence playing with them, because they talk you through the game. What could an FA Trophy mean to us this season? “I think cup competitions are always important because they are really good for momentum and building confidence. “If we get to the final of this competition, we get to go to Wembley which would be brilliant for the Club.” You have received a lot of praise online since coming back into the team, how does the positive reception feel? “Yes, it makes me feel good. I sometimes read through the comments on Twitter and it does make you feel a lot better. “It gives you confidence going into games and the Bees fans have been great with me.” With it being a local fixture, how much can the fans impact the result? “They can have a massive impact, like they have done throughout the season so far. “Even when results were not going our way at the start of the season, they have always been singing and cheering us on. “In recent months we have been able to give them more to cheer about. “They have come in their numbers to home and away games and we are looking forward to seeing them again this weekend.”
SUPPORTERS Association
In the Community
BARNET FC Supporters association As a childhood northerner that was brought up on Carlisle United & Manchester United, when I moved down to London as an 8-year-old, I couldn’t bring myself to support Arsenal or Spurs. Then on the August 17th 1991 I found myself playing cricket next to Underhill – a day in Barnet’s history as our opening Football League game saw us lose 4-7 to Crewe. The electric atmosphere led me to visit shortly after and witness part-time landlord Frankie Murphy score two goals against York – which is where the addiction began. Since then, I’ve gone through every Barnet FC emotion with relegations, play-offs and three promotions. I still get the same level of excitement on matchdays, especially as work restricts my visits. However, I’ve always seen it as part of the Supporters unwritten contractual agreement to encourage friends and family to games – to experience live football and escape the televised Premier League overdose. These days I can now be mainly seen bribing my daughters to attend games at The Hive London (mixed success). Joining the BFCSA Executive Committee was a no brainer – it was clear we needed to build a closer relationship between Club, fanbase and community. All the founding members have in place one simple facet – a love of the Club, despite having disparate views and is absolutely no clique. There is immense work being put in behind the scenes for future generations of Bees fans, to create a long-lasting relationship with the Club for the benefit of all. I’ve been impressed with the commitment the Club have shown in us – and for this, I would urge everyone who hasn’t joined to do so – it’s simple, quick – and free. I’ll stand down once
the BFCSA is on firm ground and our first six months have been incredible. What I want to see is for new generations of fans to share the same hopes and aspirations I did when I first saw the Club play – that the future of the Club is secure and there are no limits to the success of what we can achieve. Once again, I hope to see us creating friendly rivalries with the likes of Fulham FC, Cardiff City and beyond!

THE OPPOSITION
TODAY’S OPPOSITION
Club History Boreham Wood Football Club celebrated its 70th Anniversary at the end of the 2017/18 season, having been formed in 1948 following the amalgamation of Boreham Rovers and Royal Retournez. The anniversary was celebrated in spectacular style with an appearance at Wembley and also beating a Football League club for the first time ever in the FA Cup – more later on both! First though, back to our formative years and the club gradually progressed through the Mid-Herts, Parthenon, Spartan and Athenian Leagues. Under the Chairmanship of local man Bill O’Neill and the management of fellow local man Mickey Hunter, the club moved forward by winning back to back promotions at Athenian League level, before being elected to the Isthmian Football League in 1974/75, under the management of another local man Micky Lennon. In 1976/77 the club won the Isthmian League Division Two Championship by sixteen points and then had a five-season spell in the Premier Division during the late seventies and early eighties. It then enjoyed another much more successful spell in the Premier Division during the nineties under the Chairmanship of Phil Wallace and the managerial expertise of Bob Makin. That sadly ended in relegation at the end of the 1999/2000 season under the then new Chairman Danny Hunter who remains our Chairman to this day. However, the club did bounce back immediately from that disappointment and once again gained promotion to the Isthmian League Premier Division, as Isthmian League Division One Champions in 2000/01. Following the Football Association restructuring of non-league football in 2004, Boreham Wood competed for the first time in
the Southern Football League, playing in Division One East for two seasons. Winning the championship in 2005/06 the club was promoted again and returned to the Isthmian League Premier Division for the 2006/07 season. Alongside the championship success in the 2005/06 season the club went on an incredible run in the FA Trophy, reaching the SemiFinals. We are very proud to say that, at present, we are still the lowest ranked team to have reached the last four of that prestigious tournament. The 2013/14 season ended in cup success, with a Herts Senior Cup triumph defeating local rivals Bishops Stortford on penalties in the final. Another poor start in our league campaign, however, meant the club had a long relegation battle on its hands for the majority of the season but a strong finish saw us end up in 13th place. Another cup run saw us again reach the First Round proper of the FA Cup, and that culminated in us holding Football League One side Carlisle United to a 0-0 draw at Meadow Park. The replay ended in heartbreak, though, as we led 1-0, only to miss a penalty before two late goals saw us bow out of the competition 2-1. In 2013, we got the go ahead to build a brand new 870-seater West Stand. The project was finally completed in May 2014 at a cost of around three quarters of a million pounds. The stand was officially opened by Mr Arsene Wenger in front of a bumper crowd of 3,400, in a specially arranged friendly against an Arsenal First Team on Saturday 19th July 2014. The 2014/15 season was, at the time, the most successful in Boreham Wood Football Club’s history. After leading the Conference South for the majority of the season, a controversial defeat at

eventual League Champions Bromley cost us the title and so we took our place in the end of season Play-Offs.
second lifetime ambition of many at the club was to be realised in the same dramatic season as the first.
After playing magnificently to beat Havant & Waterlooville 2-0 away from home, and then drawing 2-2 at home in a two-legged Semi-Final, we faced the then big spending and strongly fancied Whitehawk Football Club at Meadow Park in front of a partisan 2,200 crowd. A Lee Angol set piece put us ahead early in the second half before a late Whitehawk penalty levelled proceedings. However, a Junior Morias goal in the first minute of extra time proved to be the winner and sent the club into raptures and the town into delirium. Who could believe it, little Boreham Wood with the lowest average attendance in the league had deservedly achieved promotion to the top tier of NonLeague football for the very first time in our then 67-year history!
A place in the Football League was at stake but it was not to be, losing 2-1 to Tranmere Rovers. However, the memory of the day, the walk down Wembley Way and the sheer ecstasy of the Wood faithful celebrating Bruno Andrade’s equaliser will live long in the memory. Seeing over 4,000 passionate supporters in the Wembley stands will be a moment to cherish for everyone connected with the club.
The 2015/16 season was undoubtedly a historic season for the Wood with us competing at the top table of non-league football for the very first time in the newly named National League. It was, though, no fairy-tale opening season at that level against much stronger opposition. In fact, it proved a very difficult one just to survive and, apart from our opening day 3-1 win against Halifax, and the odd big win against the likes of Tranmere Rovers, we struggled to compete with the bigger clubs. By the October we had lost our very successful long-standing manager Ian Allinson to his increased work commitments. We had replaced him with Allinson’s experienced, but young, assistant manager Luke Garrard who was just 30-years of age and we continued to struggle and adjust to football at that level and faced a relegation battle that took us to the very last game of the season. The final three league games of the campaign will long live in the memory as it saw us beat Aldershot away 2-1, Guiseley at home 1-0 and then Welling United 3-0 away. That end of season turnaround finally secured our place in the National League Premier and sent our Chairman, Manager, staff, dressing room and supporters into raptures. The following season, 2016/17, saw the club improve further, with an 11th place National League finish but the best was still to come one year later. During that 2017/18 season the club finally realised two ambitions, the first of which was to beat a Football League club in the FA Cup. That happened on Saturday, November 4, 2017 with a 2-1 victory over famous FA Cup winners Blackpool. Going a goal down with under half an hour left did not suggest that history was about to be made but an equaliser from Blair Turgott paved the way for Dan Holman to secure his place in the club’s history books with a very late winner. That would have been the highlight of any normal season, but 2017/18 was anything but that for Boreham Wood FC as a great run of league form ended with an amazing 4th place finish in the National League. That meant yet another appearance in the Play-Offs and this time in the new format where six clubs were involved. In the eliminator round we beat AFC Fylde 2-1 in a hard-fought game but suffered a series of nightmare injuries, losing three key players before and during the game and putting them out of the remaining Play-Off matches. We then faced Sutton United away just three days later, without those three key players. Despite this, a stunning performance led to a 3-2 win against the odds with Angelo Balanta and Michael Folivi writing their names into Wood folklore. When the nerve wracking period of injury time ended, those present celebrated the impossible dream – Boreham Wood were going to play at Wembley Stadium! The
A difficult season was to follow the play-off disappointment with a 20th place finish, however we were on hand to crash the play-off party once again. The 2019/20 campaign was another spectacle for a multitude of reasons, both good and bad. The COVID-19 pandemic kicked off and had a severe impact on the world, forcing football clubs to play their games behind closed doors which proved to be most detrimental to lower leagues clubs. Despite this, it would still prove to be an enjoyable season, as a much improved 5th place finish allowed entry into the play-offs for a second time in three seasons and another attempt at making history. After getting past Halifax in the elimination round we faced Harrogate in the semi-final, with a narrow defeat in an empty stadium to the eventual winners. Similarly to the first play-off disappointment, we were unable to match these heights in the following campaign, although history was still made. A comfortable 3-0 win over Canvey Island saw the Wood go one better than in 2018 and reach the third round of the FA Cup for the first time. Championship outfit Millwall awaited, with the Lions’ league position of 17th making them the Wood’s highest ranked opponent. This was to be the end of the road for the cup run with a 2-0 defeat in an empty Meadow Park, but it was a memorable day nonetheless. Our Chairman Danny Hunter can proudly claim that he has overseen our rise through both the Ryman Leagues, the Conference South and into the National League where, in our fourth season, we are regarded as an established club at that level, the pinnacle of non-league football. During our Chairman’s tenure, he has continued to invest or raise over £14 million, to greatly modernise our current infrastructure, our player recruitment, our ground and facility, which has improved the football club hugely and enhanced every fan’s matchday experience when they visit our Meadow Park home. In 2017 he secured further investment of £1.8 million building a new training facility, laying a new DESSO pitch of Premier League quality, installing new floodlights and dugouts. Our facilities are now 90% utilised on a daily basis, 52 weeks of the year. The club houses the largest sports education programme in the whole country, which has now been established for well over a decade. It is a programme that boasts over 600 scholar/students for the next academic year and 2018/19 season. Optimism in our future has long returned to Meadow Park and we hope it will now lead to greater home support, greater sponsorship and, of course, further investment as we continue to progress. After the incredible infrastructure overhaul and huge facility investment in recent years, the club has never looked in better shape. We now have the excitement of another National League season to enjoy and the future of Boreham Wood Football Club has never looked brighter throughout our 70-year history.

MANAGER
LUKE GARRARD Luke started his career as a YTS at Swindon Town, making his full professional debut at 18-years-old against Oldham Athletic on 26th April 2003. He went on to make 17 appearances for the Robins before brief spells at Bishop’s Stortford, Boreham Wood and Northwood. Luke later joined AFC Wimbledon in March 2006. A cult hero with Wimbledon’s fans, he made over 100 appearances for the club, mainly as a right-back but also occasionally in the centre of midfield. In November 2008, Garrard tore his cruciate ligament during training which kept him out for the rest of that season. From the start of the 2009-10 season, he made only occasional appearances for the Wombles, which saw him re-join the Wood in January 2010. Luke couples his role as First Team Manager at Meadow Park with his role as the Academy Manager. Luke was originally an Academy Coach at the Club in 2008, before being promoted to Academy Director in 2012. Luke was then appointed Ian Allinson’s Assistant Manager in 2013, a position he held for two-and-a-half-years. Upon Ian’s Departure in October 2015, Luke was appointed as the
First Team Manager, becoming the youngest boss in all of England’s top five division’s. His first game in charge was a 1-1 draw away with Guiseley. Luke would steer the Wood away from the relegation zone in the club’s inaugural season in the National League. The side clinched survival on the last game of the season away to already relegated Welling United with a comprehensive 3-0 victory. Luke’s stock has further risen in the following seasons, having taken the Wood to Wembley for the first time in their history back in 2017/18. The side achieved their highest ever National League finish of 4th position, and reached the play-off final against Tranmere Rovers, narrowly losing 2-1. Garrard maintained the Wood’s National League status in the 2018/19 season, finishing 8 points above the relegation zone in 20th, before mounting another play-off push during a very disrupted 2019/20 campaign with the season being curtailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A 5th placed finish on points-pergame set up a play-off eliminator match at home to FC Halifax Town which Wood won 2-1 before losing to eventual play-off promotion winners Harrogate Town in the semi-finals 1-0.
Nathan ashmore ASHMORE JOINED THE WOOD IN OCTOBER 2019 In October 2019, a deal was completed between the Wood and Ebbsfleet that saw Nathan come to Meadow Park for the remainder of the 2019/20 season on a season-long loan. Nathan immediately became an instrumental part of a team that reached the 2019/20 National League play-offs following a 5th placed points per game finish in a curtailed COVID-19 season. Despite victory over FC Halifax Town in the play-off eliminator match, Wood lost to eventual play-off winners Harrogate Town in the semi-finals 1-0.
FEMI ILESANMI ILLESANMI RETURNED TO THE WOOD IN JUNE 2018 Boreham Wood secured the return of Femi Ilesanmi in June 2018 having originally featured for the Wood in the 2016/17 campaign. The attack-minded defender began his career in the academy of AFC Wimbledon, before being snapped up by Queens Park Rangers. He departed Loftus Road without making a senior appearance and went on to sign for Dagenham & Redbridge under John still, via Ashford Town Middlesex. While with the Daggers, Femi featured over 100 times, across a four-year stay at Victoria Road, before departing for League Two outfit York City. Ilesanmi would go on to make a further 70 appearances for York City, before he began the first of his spells at Meadow Park. Just a single season away from Meadow Park with Dover Athletic in 2017/18 saw Femi swiftly return to the Club rejoining the Wood ahead of the 2018/19 season.
WILL EVANS EVANS SIGNED A TWO-YEAR DEAL WITH THE WOOD IN 2021 Former Chesterfield captain Will Evans signed a two-year deal with Wood following his exit from the Spireites in the Summer of 2021. A tough tackling centre half, Will has a wealth of experience at National League level with spells at Hereford United, Newport County, Eastleigh, Aldershot Town and Chesterfield. A single season with Aldershot Town saw Evans help the Shots reach the 2017/18 play-offs but they were agonisingly defeated by Ebbsfleet United on penalties at the Recreation Ground, before Will would spend three years in Derbyshire at Chesterfield as Club captain.
DAVID STEPHENS STEPHENS JOINED THE WOOD IN OCTOBER 2015 Stephens signed for Scottish Premier League team Hibernian on a three-year deal in July 2010 and made his debut for Hibs as a substitute in the opening day 3–2 win at Motherwell. Stephens left Hibs in August 2012 and signed for League Two side Barnet. David signed for Boreham Wood in October 2015 making his debut in a 2–1 victory against AFC Hornchurch in the FA Cup.

CLASSIC ENCOUNTER WITH
THE WOOD
The Bees took the lead in the 68th minute thanks to a brilliant strike from Ephron Mason-Clark. The 19-year-old cut inside to shoot with his left foot from the edge of the box and fired it high into the top left corner of the net. It was his first league goal.
On New Year’s Day 2019, the Bees and Boreham Wood met at The Hive London for the first time. The Bees went ahead through an Ephron Mason-Clark wonder goal, but the Wood managed to take a share of the spoils when they converted a controversial penalty late on. It was Darren Currie’s first home game as manager.
Jack Taylor then nearly doubled Barnet’s lead, Huddart producing a great save to deny the Bees. However, on 85 minutes, Boreham Wood were given the chance to level when Akinola was adjudged to have fouled in the box. Bradley Ash calmly slotted home the spot-kick, sending Mark Cousins the wrong way.
The Bees had the first effort on goal, but Ryan Huddart in the Wood goal claimed Shaq Coulthirst’s shot. Wood responded through Justin Shaibu, whose cross was cleared for a corner. Ex-Bee Tom Champion then headed over from the resulting dead-ball kick.
Teams
Darren Currie’s side were able to sustain a series of attacks, notably through Mason-Clark out wide, which caused problems for the Boreham Wood defence. Jack Taylor, Shaq Coulthirst and Charlee Adams all fired over the bar for Barnet during the first half. However, Mark Cousins, in the Bees goal, had to thwart a powerful effort from Boreham Wood’s Ricky Shakes.
Bees: Mark Cousins, Cheye Alexander, Callum Reynolds (Simeon Akinola), Craig Robson, Elliot Johnson, Charlee Adams, Jack Taylor, Medy Elito, Dan Sweeney, Ephron Mason-Clark (Byron Harrison), Shaq Coulthirst. Boreham Wood: Ryan Huddart, Danny Woodards (Sorba Thomas), David Stephens, Femi Ilesanmi, Jamal Fyfield, Tom Champion, Mark Ricketts, Ricky Shakes, Keiran Murtagh, Gozie Ugwu (Bradley Ash), Justin Shaibu. Attendance: 2,087.
Barnet’s skipper Callum Reynolds had to be replaced shortly after the interval, coming off worse for wear following a clash of heads. His replacement Simeon Akinola almost gave Barnet the lead, but he just failed to poke home Mason-Clark’s through ball. Mason-Clark himself then had an effort palmed away by Huddart before appeals for a Barnet penalty were waved away after a shot from Akinola appeared to strike the arm of Champion. Boreham Wood were riding their luck and just moments later Kieran Murtagh escaped with a yellow card CLASSIC ENCOUNTER WITH the WOOD

22 years ago (1999): Barnet and Mansfield Town played out a goalless draw at Underhill, in a Football League, fourth-tier game. The attendance was 1,997. The Bees made the play-offs at the end of the season but lost out to Peterborough United at the two-legged semi-final stage.
28 years ago (1993): The Bees held Hull City to a 4-4 draw away. It was Barnet’s one season in the third tier of the Football League. Tony Lynch (two), Carl Hoddle and Peter Scott scored Barnet’s goals. The crowd was 4,115.
39 years ago (1982): Barnet beat Metropolitan Police 2-1 in the FA Trophy at home. The Police were then in Division One of the Isthmian League, two levels below the Bees. A total of 528 spectators saw Stewart Atkins and Colin Barnes score for the Underhill side. The team went on to beat Woking in the next round and eventually go out to Ilkeston Town.
42 years ago (1979): The Bees beat Nuneaton Borough in a replay in the Bob Lord Trophy (a cup competition for members of what was then the Alliance Premier League, now the Vanarama National League). The teams had drawn at Nuneaton a week earlier. Steve Oliver and Steve Turner scored the goals for the Bees and the attendance was 339. Barnet went on to lose heavily to Altrincham in the two-legged semi-final.
This is the 32nd season that the Bees have participated in the FA Trophy, having been ineligible while in the Football League. They reached the semi-final in 1969/70, the competition’s inaugural year, losing at Stoke City’s Victoria Road 1-0 to Macclesfield Town in front of 7,855 fans. Two seasons later, the Bees made it to the final at Wembley, losing to Stafford Rangers 3-0. Since then, Barnet have reached the quarter-finals on three occasions (going out to Fareham Town 1-0 in 1986/87, AFC Fylde in 2018/19 on penalties after a goalless draw, and Halesowen 2-1 in 2019/20). The Bees have won 40 games in the Trophy, drawn 23 and lost 30 (including two on penalties). In 2003/04, the Bees were expelled from the competition after fielding an ineligible player. Over those 93 matches, Barnet have scored 163 goals and conceded 124. Last season, the Bees lost to Dorking Wanderers in the First Round in which they were involved. Boreham Wood were awarded a win over Yeovil Town when the Somerset side forfeited the game due to Covid in their first tie in 2020/21, but then lost 4-0 at home to Torquay United in the next round. The previous season the Wood had lost in their first game to Royston Town. Boreham Wood go into today’s game unbeaten in eight games in all competitions. They have scored 16 goals in those games and conceded just two. The Bees have managed five wins in their last seven. Mitch Brundle, who has played every minute of every competitive game for the Bees this season, scored on his birthday in the latest home game, against Maidenhead United. He is the first Bees player to do that at The Hive London. In fact, Mitch is the first player to score on his birthday, home or away, since 10 March 2012, when Ben May, who had been loaned to the Bees for a couple of months by Stevenage, scored on his 28th birthday. 59 Years A Bee

WHAT’S THE Buzz
WHAT’S THE Buzz
NATIONAL LEAGUE Our Vanarama National League rivals Southend United, who we take on next week, have been placed under an embargo. This is being enforced upon them by the National League over the debts to HMRC, which have been worsened by the Coronavirus pandemic. This comes after the Shrimpers said that they were working in terms to finalise the agreement to pay HMRC, and do not expect the embargo to prevent any new signings. The side were relegated out of the Football League last season where they’ve found themselves as a non-league side for the first time in 101 years.
The draw for the FA Vase Fourth Round proper has been made this week. Local sides involved include London Lions, just one of four step ten sides out of the 32 remaining sides in the competition, will travel away to Coventry Spinx. Athletic Newham will host Littlehampton Town, and Southall hosting Clevedon Town. Other notable ties include Abbey Hey vs AFC Liverpool, Consett vs Wythenshawe Town, Rugby Town vs Lakenheath, Newport Pagnell Town vs Fakenham Town, and Buckland Athletic vs Egham Town. The ties are due to be played on 15th January, with winners receiving £1,875 and losers £625. The winning teams will continue to the Fifth Round - with the final taking place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 22nd May.
Christopher Missilou has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent by his former club Newport County. The 29-year-old former Republic of Congo international had only joined the Welsh side in July, initially on a one-year deal, but has now departed the Club after making six appearances. His career started at Auxerre before enjoying short spells at Evry, Stade Brest, Montceau Bourgogne, L’Entente SSG and Le Puy Foot all in France followed. He first arrived in England in July 2018, when he signed for Oldham Athletic. He played in the sides’ 2-1 Emirates FA Cup win over Premier League side Fulham, before scoring in Paul Scholes’ first game in charge of the Club. He then featured for Northampton Town and Swindon Town earlier this year.
WHAT’S THE Buzz
A long-standing takeover bid of Carlisle United involving Edinburgh Woollen Mill has collapsed this week, meaning the deal will not be going ahead. The deal was initially proposed in 2019, but had its support withdrawn by the Carlisle United Official Supporters’ Club in May of this year. The Club could not find a compromise between all the parties, so called off the deal. The side are currently in 21st place in League Two, just three points off the relegation zone, and fourteen off of the bottom play-off spot. Edinburgh Woollen Mill went into administration during the Coronavirus pandemic, although it was saved itself in January 2021.
League Two side Newport County have warned their fans that bad behaviour will not be tolerated, following some recent incidents. This includes some fans going onto the pitch at Rodney Parade in their 3-2 win against Sutton United last week, having won thanks to a 93rd minute penalty. The Club subsequently released a statement saying that actions would be taken against those involved, deploring the actions of those involved and highlighting the potential penalties, financial or others, onto the club shall they get punished for their actions. The result saw them jump up to 4th place in the table - one point off the automatic promotion spots.

MATCH Report
MATCH Report DEAN BRENNAN’S SIDE MADE IT FOUR WINS IN THEIR LAST FIVE AS THEY BEAT ALAN DEVONSHIRE’S MAIDENHEAD UNITED 3-0 IN THE VANARAMA NATIONAL LEAGUE AT THE HIVE LONDON. After a tense start to proceedings, in which the play was balanced between the two sides, the Bees had a penalty appeal waved away. Rob Hall went down just inside the area under pressure from a Magpies defender, but the referee dismissed all the appeals. In the 23rd minute, the visitors came close after Jamie Sendles-White’s low effort went narrowly past the far post after the ball fell to him from a corner. Just nine minutes later, the Bees broke the deadlock. Rob Hall’s free-kick was headed back to him before he took a touch and rifled the ball through the bodies and into the bottom right corner from 25-yards out. Shortly after, Dean Brennan’s side came close to a second when Ephron Mason-Clark shrugged off multiple challenges from the Maidenhead defenders and unleashed a striker towards the bottom left corner. The Magpies’ goalie Rhys Lovett got down well and pushed his effort around the post for a corner. Five minutes before the break, the Bees once again came close to adding another as Jamie Turley headed the ball onto Reiss Greenidge from a free-kick. The 25-year-old got on the end of it and headed just past the bottom right post from close-range. Straight after half-time, the Bees had a second through a well-worked corner. Mitch Brundle rose highest to glance the ball into the net from close-range after a curling free-kick from Wes Fonguck was whipped in towards the back post. In the 56th minute the Bees extended their advantage with a well-worked goal.
Adam Marriott smartly took the ball under control and slotted through Ephron Mason-Clark who opened his body up and curled the ball past Lovett into the bottom right corner. As the Magpies pushed on in search of their first goal, Reece Smith volleyed over the bar after he was found from a long ball forward over the top of the Bees’ defence. With the final whistle looming, Dean Brennan’s side almost added a fourth when Turley got on the end of Ephron MasonClark’s teasing ball across the face of goal, however the captain couldn’t find the target from close-range. The Bees stood firm to any further threats and saw out the game to secure their second clean sheet of the season in a dominant display.

A-Z OF FORMER BARNET PLAYERS
RUBEN bover Bover was born in the Balearics and came through Real Mallorca’s academy when the club were knocking on the door of the UEFA Cup places in La Liga. Despite this, he was drawn to the English game and drawn by the prospect of playing abroad when he was a teenager. Bover’s first destination was a little unlikely but joining Kidderminster Harriers meant he was able to go to school while also playing youth football for the club. Although the rough and tumble of the non-league circuit wasn’t suited to Bover, he did enough to earn a contract at Charlton Athletic after a season at Halesowen Town. There were hopes around The Valley that Bover could develop into Charlton’s own Cesc Fabregas. After building a good relationship with Shaun Wright Phillips in 2013, he was able to get a trial with the new up and coming American team, New York Red Bulls. After an impressive week with the club, Reuben was given a contract. At the time they were the only team in New York, so they were able to attract some big football names. He got the chance to train and play with Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill. After an enjoyable second season at Red Bulls, in which he scored the goal that qualified them for the play-offs, Bover found himself out of the team as a new coach was appointed - which left him looking for a fresh start. Suddenly he found himself in the same side as Spanish icons Raul and Marcos Senna, as the Cosmos targeted the league title. Having grown up as a Real Madrid supporter, Bover couldn’t believe his luck when he joined the New York Cosmos close by. Bover won two league Championships at the Cosmos but faced a difficult decision amid the Club’s financial uncertainty at the end of 2016. In the end he moved to London, accepting an offer from Barnet. After making 27 appearances for the Bees, he went back home to Spain on the 8th December 2018 and joined FC Andorra where he now captains the side. The 29-year-old has been quite the journeyman in his career but now seems to have found his football home.
