DAVE ANDERSON
DAVE ANDERSON Dave, we went to Notts County in the week with a slightly depleted squad, how are we looking ahead of this weekend? “We still have a couple of fitness tests to do but a few of the lads look as if they are going to be okay for the game on Saturday. “We will make those decisions on matchday and I am hopeful we will have one or two players back from midweek.” What are you expecting to see from the players that are fit and ready ahead of Saturday’s game? “We are looking to see a reaction from Tuesday night’s disappointing defeat at Notts County. “I thought we were excellent last week at Aldershot Town and need to perform how we did there. “Tuesday was not great for us, but you have to move on quickly in this game. “What we have got is the perfect game because it is a local derby. “Everybody loves them and it is a great game for us to react to.” It is a great opportunity to bounce back and you must feel that it is important to do so after Tuesday evening? “Yes absolutely. We must draw a line under it and move on.
DAVE ANDERSON
“We are focussing more on what we are doing on Saturday than what happened on Tuesday.
“That is why they are so special and that is why I feel it is a good game for us to come back to.”
“We have tried to move on from it but are aware of how people felt let down by it.
Just how much are you looking forward to being on the touchline in an atmosphere like it should be at The Hive London on Saturday afternoon?
“We understand what we have to do and hopefully our supporters will see that we work very hard for the badge.” What are you expecting from the game itself because last time we played them it was quite a tight contest? “It will be the same again and they will come here with confidence after last time. “Every game in this division is a tough one, not just for Barnet. Saturday will be no different. “We are looking forward to it because it is a derby game. “I am a local, I live local, I know all about it and the history of it. “It is a great game for the fans and we are hoping to get a positive result for them.” There are a few familiar faces within their squad. Do you feel that might play into our favour? “You can never predict a derby game. “You can know everything about the opposition, they can be top of the league or bottom of the league, but it is irrelevant in derby games.
“You always look forward and get excited for games like this. “Both sets of supporters should be up for it which will create a great atmosphere for the players and staff. It has been announced that Antonis Vasiliou has had his loan move extended at Wingate & Finchley until the end of the season. How pleased are you that he will be getting some first-team minutes? “Yes, it is and I spoke to him a couple of times about it. I know the level and the club he is at so believe it is a good move for him. “I know he is enjoying it because every player wants to play football.” Have you got a message for our supporters who will be right behind us at the weekend? “Please be as loud as you can and get right behind the lads. “They know what the game is about, so I fully expect them to turn up in numbers and be vocal throughout.”
WALKING FOOTBALL
WALKING football
BARNET OVER 50’S BARNET WALKING FOOTBALL TEAM It was a wonderful day of fun, football and friendship at The Hive London as we welcomed Birmingham champions Coleshill Strollers, Watford and an SE England Select Team to our venue. The standard was very high with some excellent goalkeeping and defensive performances on display. There was a big group watching the matches before going back to the Hive Bar to watch Barnet FC vs Stockport County in the Vanarama National League. We were very proud to have won the round robin with two 1-0 victories. The following week we then travelled to play as guests of Aldershot Town, where we managed two 1-1 draws. After that we were treated to lunch and matchday tickets by our wonderful host Mick Quinn. It was great to see Dean Brennan’s side win 3-1 with a super performance to round off a great day. Our weekly sessions take place at The Hive London on Tuesdays 19:30-20:30 and Fridays 14:00-15:00. To get in touch, please email BarnetWft@yahoo.com
TODAY’S LOOK AHEAD
HARRY TAYLOR
TODAY’S LOOK AHEAD
Harry, you have missed only two league games so far this season, how are you finding it? “Yes, I am feeling good and am pleased to be playing regularly here at Barnet. “I have been lucky to stay fit for so many games and get so many games under my belt this season.” You have played in a variety of positions throughout this campaign. What has that been like for you and what would you say is your favourite?
“No, the preparation stays the same and you have got to be professional. Nothing really changes, no matter who you play. “You cannot underestimate anyone in this league and you have got to try and be as consistent as you can to give yourself the best chance at winning.” What has competition for places been like around the team lately, given the fact Teddy Howe has come into the group?
“I would not say I have a favourite to be honest.
“The togetherness has been good, which it has been all season.
“If I can do a job for the team in that position, then I am happy to do so, wherever the gaffer plays me.
“It was a disappointing night for us at Notts County and we have got to bounce back from it quickly as a team.
“But yes, I have played in quite a lot of positions, but as long as team win, then I do not mind where I play.”
“We have got a lot of games coming up and we are looking to put another unbeaten run together.”
Looking ahead to this weekend we host Wealdstone in the Vanarama National League. What are you expecting ahead of the match?
As you mentioned, this weekend provides a good opportunity for us to bounce back. How can we make this happen?
“I think it will be a tough game like it was earlier on in the season.
“I think we need to play very similarly to how we played against Aldershot Town last weekend.
“When we played them at Grosvenor Vale, we lost to them narrowly.
“We played with a lot of intensity and purpose.
“We have got to put that result right and give it our all for the fans. “I am feeling prepared for the match and hoping that we can get the three points this time.” How much do you feel an early tackle, or an early goal could be for setting the mood on the weekend, as there will be quite an atmosphere? “Yes, it will be a feisty affair with a lot of fans there. These are the types of games that you look forward to playing in. “I think the first goal in any game, no matter who you play, is one of the biggest goals because it sets the tone for the rest of the match. “If you can get momentum behind that, I think you can give yourself a good platform to build on.” It could be a different challenge to the ones we have faced in recent weeks, so does that effect the preparation ahead of the match?
“The players all put in a good shift and we will be looking to do that again this weekend.” The supporters have been singing your praises a lot on social media and you were in the Vanarama Team of the Week for your performance at Aldershot. How does that make you feel? “Yes, it is good to have been named in the team and I am pleased that the fans have been praising my recent performances. “I am hoping to keep it going and that we can pick up some more positive results along the way.” Just how much are you looking forward to being involved in this weekend’s match? “Yes, hopefully it will be a good atmosphere and Wealdstone will bring a few fans down to The Hive London. “It is now down to us to give our supporters something to cheer about come the end of the match.”

THE OPPOSITION
TODAY’S OPPOSITION
Wealdstone Football were founded at the beginning of the 1899/00 season, competing in Division 2 of the Willesden & District League, winning their first title in the 1905/06 season but were defunct a year later, reforming for the 1908/09 season becoming champions again in 1912/13. After the First World War, Wealdstone joined the London Senior League and then the Middlesex Senior League, moving into Lower Mead Stadium situated between Harrow and Wealdstone town centres in 1922 after previously playing at the College Farm Ground and Belmont Road, both in Wealdstone, they joined the Spartan League for their first season at Lower Mead and then joined the Athenian League in 1928/29.
The club won their one and only Athenian League in 1951/52, joining the Isthmian League in 1964. Two years later the Stones enjoyed their second Wembley success, defeating league rivals Hendon 3-1 in the FA Amateur Cup Final at Wembley in front of 45,000 spectators. The Stones turned professional in 1971, joining the Southern League where they won the First Division South in 1974 earning them promotion to the Premier Division which then meant the Stones became one of the founding members of the Alliance Premier League in 1979, what is now the National League.
The Stones won the Middlesex Cup double in 1930, winning the Senior Challenge Cup and Senior Charity Cup for the first time and currently have won each trophy a total of 11 times, sharing the Charity Cup on two other occasions. The Stones played at Wembley Stadium for the first time during the Second World War in 1942, where they beat RAF (Uxbridge) 5-2 after extra time in the Middlesex Senior Red Cross Cup Final.
A year before that though, the Stones enjoyed their best run in the FA Cup, defeating Football League clubs Hereford United and Reading on route to the Third Round where they made the short trip to Loftus Road to play First Division club Queen’s Park Rangers, unfortunately the Stones were beaten 4-0 on the day by the R’s. Later that season the Stones played in Europe, featuring in the annual Anglo-Italian Tournament, they beat Paganese 4-2 before losing 1-0 to eventual winners Udinese, both at Lower Mead, the Stones then travelled to Italy but were beaten 1-0 by Reggiana and 2-0 by Arezzo.
In 1946 the club was involved in the first televised football match, where the BBC showed part of their Athenian League fixture match away to Barnet. The Stones also took part in the first two ‘live’ FA Cup matches to be screened to BBC viewers in their FA Cup victories over Edgware Town and Colchester United in 1949, they met a Football League side for the first time later in that cup run where they were narrowly beaten by Port Vale in the First Round Proper.
The club didn’t suffer a relegation until the 1980/81 season but returned to the Conference a season later, winning all five trophies on offer in the Southern League that season. The 1984/85 was the club’s golden year, becoming the first ever club to win the ‘nonleague double’ winning both the Conference and FA Trophy in the same season, the club completed a treble that season winning the Middlesex Senior Challenge Cup, too.
THE OPPOSITION
Within a few short years the club had been relegated from the Conference into the Southern League Premier Division 1987/88 and then the Southern League Southern Division in 1991/92. The season before also saw the Stones sell their traditional home of Lower Mead in order to stay in existence, the company handling the sale of Lower Mead then went into liquidation and after lengthy court proceedings, the club only received a fraction of the sum Tesco’s had paid for the land. A seventeen-year period of groundsharing began at Watford’s Vicarage Road for two seasons, and then at Yeading FC for another two seasons. The 1995/96 season saw a new era for the club as they began a groundshare with Edgware Town at their White Lion Ground and had left the Southern League to rejoin the Isthmian League for the first time since 1971, although at a cost as they had to begin two tiers lower in the Isthmian Third Division, where they finished fourth in their first season. Two successive promotions followed under the guidance of manager Gordon Bartlett who would spend 22 successful years at the club. The Stones almost made it three successive promotions but were denied promotion due to Edgware Town’s stadium not meeting the necessary requirements for the top Isthmian division. The Stones eventually won promotion in the 2003/04 season beating Dulwich Hamlet in a play-off final penalty shootout. During this groundsharing period the club attempted to redevelop the local Prince Edward Playing Fields, owned by the London Borough of Harrow, into a new home ground. Construction of the new stadium started in 2003 but, when over 60% complete, was suddenly halted in April 2004 when the private company who were co-financing the project with the club went into insolvency. Unable to afford the completion of the new stadium on their own, Wealdstone had to leave the site unfinished for two years, until Harrow borough council eventually sold it to Barnet FC who later moved in to what became The Hive Stadium in 2013. The Stones moved to Northwood FC’s Chestnut Avenue ground for the 2005/06 where they would spend three years. The club spent a solitary season back in the Southern League in 2006/07 before returning to the Isthmian League the following season. The club
acquired a lease to the then defunct Ruislip Manor FC’s Grosvenor Vale ground in 2008, with dedicated fans helping to bring the stadium up to the standard required by the Isthmian League and from the start of the 2008/09 season had a stadium and clubhouse of their own. At The Vale the club has prospered, hosting Football League clubs Colchester United and Rotherham United in the FA Cup, reaching the FA Trophy semi-finals twice and earning two promotions. The first success story came in the 2010/11 season, where they lost in the semi-finals of the FA Trophy to eventual winners Newport County, beating National League sides Barrow, Dartford and Cambridge United in that cup run. The 2013/14 season saw Gordon Bartlett’s final promotion as Wealdstone manager where they won the Isthmian Premier League as champions, promoting them into the National League South. The BBC cameras rolled into Grosvenor Vale the following season, as the Stones made it to the First Round Proper for the first time since 1987, eventually losing 6-2 to League One side Colchester United. The first managerial change in 22 years came early in the 2017/18 season where Gordon Bartlett was replaced by Bobby Wilkinson despite narrowly missing the play-offs the season before. Wilkinson spent two seasons with the Stones, with the club reaching the FA Trophy semi-finals again in his first season, again losing to eventual winners Brackley Town and then reaching the National League South play-offs the season after, where final minute heartache saw them lose out to Woking in the semi-final. Wilkinson left the club after the 2018/19 season and was replaced by former Hemel Hempstead Town manager Dean Brennan. With a reduced budget, Brennan delivered the National League South title for the Stones with a breathtaking style of attacking football that saw them dismantle title rivals Havant & Waterlooville (4-2 away) and Bath City (7-0 at home) in emphatic victories to take the Stones back to the pinnacle of the non-league pyramid for the first time in over 30 years. Brennan was replaced by his assistant Stuart Maynard in the Stones return to the National League midway through the 2020/21 season, and he guided them to a 19th place finish.

HEAD-TO-HEAD WITH WEALDSTONE
HEAD-TO-HEAD WITH
WEALDSTONE The Bees have played Wealdstone an astonishing 117 times in first-team competitive fixtures, with the first meeting over 100 years ago. The Bees have won 55 games, drawn 20 and lost 42. The teams were first due to meet in 1914/15 in the preliminary round of the FA Cup, but Wealdstone withdrew due to the commencement of the First World War and Barnet received a bye. The first game actually played between the clubs was a Middlesex FA Senior Cup game on 19 February 1921, which Barnet won 2-0. From 1928/29 on, the teams met every season, including throughout the Second World War, up to 1963/64 (a total of 36 consecutive seasons). The sides met often during the 1970s and 1980s, until Wealdstone were relegated from what is now the Vanarama National League at the end of the 1987/88 season. Since then, there have been only three competitive meetings, two last season and one this season, after Wealdstone regained their National League status. (These statistics are based mainly on Rob Cavallini’s five-volume A history of Barnet FC and include County Cup matches when they were considered first-team games and games during the war in a temporary league, but not Capital League games or friendlies.) Of the 59 Barnet home games, the Bees have run out winners on 38 occasions, with 11 games being drawn and Wealdstone winning 10. Barnet have not lost in the most recent six games at home. The Stones last won at Barnet in 1983. Today is only the second game at The Hive London, with the first game ending goalless. The Athenian League match between Barnet and Wealdstone on Saturday 19 October 1946 made television history: it was the first live televised post-war game. However, other games had been shown before the war. In the games since 1965, when Barnet became semiprofessional, Kevin Millett has played most often against Wealdstone (16 times), followed by Eddie Stein and Steve Oliver (both 12 appearances). Over the same period, Nicky Evans has scored 10 goals against the Stones, more than any other Bees player, followed by Steve Mahoney on five.
The highest attendance in games between the sides in the past 50 years (2,622) was the game at Grosvenor Vale earlier this season. The largest crowd at home was 2,167 in November 1987. The most recent match between the sides was won 1-0 by Wealdstone in November 2021. Rhys Browne scored the only goal in the 78th minute. The Bees’ team that day was: Aston Oxborough, Jamie Turley, Reiss Greenidge, Sam Beard, Sam Woods, Mitch Brundle, Harry Taylor, Kian Flanagan (Mason Bloomfield), Rob Hall (Wes Fonguck), Ephron Mason-Clark, Adam Marriott. Some true Barnet legends have played for both clubs. Johnny Barr, Barnet’s goalkeeper from 1964/65 to 1969/70, who played for the Bees against Preston North End in the Third Round of the FA Cup in 1965, went on to play for Wealdstone. Scott McGleish, who made 160 appearances for the Bees, spent four seasons at Wealdstone before leaving in 2017. Tony Lynch who was with Barnet from 1990 to 1994 had three seasons with Wealdstone before joining the Bees and John Margerrison, who made 174 appearances for the Bees, moved to Wealdstone in 1989. Steve Brinkman played over 100 games for the Stones before moving to Barnet where he turned out 115 times. Dean Parrett played for both sides last season. He played four times for Wealdstone, including against the Bees on 5 December 2020. Just a week later he appeared in one of his two games for Barnet. Tom Champion had a short loan spell with the Stones in 2005, while in his first stint with Barnet. Others to play for both include Elliott Charles (with Barnet 2008-10), Sam Cox (2010-12), Medy Elito (2018-20), David Gipp (1989-90) and Shane Gore (2003-2005). Elito is currently with the Stones. Of course, Dean Brennan, the current Bees Interim Head Coach was previously manager at Wealdstone, and Paul Fairclough, who guided Barnet back to the Football League in 2004 as manager, played over a hundred games for Wealdstone between 1975 and 1984.

CLASSIC ENCOUNTER WITH
THE STONES
On 6 May 1985, the last day of the season, the Bees beat Wealdstone 7-0. Nicky Evans scored four and Steve Mahoney grabbed a hat-trick in this Gola League game (now the National League). The Stones may not have had their minds on the task that day as they were already league champions and were preparing for the FA Trophy final against Boston United. Wealdstone were also missing six first teamers. Barnet got off to a cracking start and could have taken the lead before Mahoney got the first after 15 minutes. John Margerrison and David Pearce created the chance and Mahoney found the top corner from the edge of the box. Mahoney himself provided the assist for the second goal in the 37th minute, crossing to provide a straightforward finish for Evans.
Unfortunately for them, there was no automatic promotion to the Football League at that time. Just five days later, the Stones lifted the FA Trophy and achieved an incredible double. Barnet ended the season on a positive note, moving up to 15th in the table. Teams: Bees: Steve Humphries, Eddie Stein, Don McAllister, Peter Brown, Bill Baldry, Glyn Creaser, Nicky Evans, John Margerrison, Dave Pearce, Duncan Hardy (Trevor Parker), Steve Mahoney. Wealdstone: Paul Cotter, Steve Perkins, Hughy Dowe, Dennis Byatt, Paul Bowgett, Vince Jones, Brian Greenaway, Lee Holmes, Gary Donnellan (Roy Davies), Mark Graves, Nigel Johnson. Attendance: 1,291.
The Bees went in two up at the break after a strong showing, but the Bank Holiday crowd were set to see a devastating performance in the second half. Mahoney made it 3-0 in the 47th minute and completed his own hat-trick after 56 minutes with a superb strike. Evans then took over, scoring three more in four minutes. Substitute Trevor Parker set up the Bees’ fifth, which was Evans’ second. Then a poor clearance by the Stones’ defence allowed Evans to fire home past Paul Cotter in the Wealdstone goal. The seventh goal was provided by Dave Pearce and headed home by Evans. Wealdstone were presented with the league trophy at the end of the game, jubilant despite the heavy defeat. CURRENTLY The Bees’ 3-1 win over Aldershot Town was their first victory away from home by a margin of two goals or more since their win at Weymouth on 3 May 2021. Sam Beard’s goal at Aldershot, his first for Barnet, saw him become the 14th Barnet player to score this season. Barnet’s victory over Aldershot completed the double over their Vanarama National League opponents, having beaten them 2-1 at home in October. It is the Bees’ first double of the season. Last season’s only double was against Weymouth. The Bees’ game at Aldershot was their first Vanarama National League match, since the defeat at Dover Athletic on 26 January 2021, that saw no yellow or red cards for either team. The Dover game was subsequently expunged from the records when the Whites decided not to complete their fixtures last season. So, the most recent Bees’ league game that still stands and where there were no cards was more than two years ago, on 25 January 2020, away to Bromley. Barnet’s last home game against Stockport County attracted the second largest attendance of the season at The Hive London (2,183), and the third largest away crowd (769). The best attendance at home and the largest away support was for the game against Wrexham.

ALDERSHOT TOWN AWAY POSTCARD Last Saturday we had a short trip for the game against Aldershot Town. Due to it being quite far from Leeds, my parents came to stay with me in London the night before. We set off around 11:00 on Saturday morning with the intention of getting lunch before the game. We arrived in Aldershot around 12:30 and found parking up by the away end. As we were heading into the town, we bumped into fellow Bees Mark and Adam who joined us in Wetherspoons for a few drinks and lunch. We headed back to the ground around 14:00 and as we arrived, we were told the usual away end was shut so we had parked all the way up the hill for nothing! We went inside and joined other fans on the away terrace ready for kick-off. We got off to a great start as just five minutes into the game, Adam Marriott gave us the lead when he got on the end of a lovely cross from Rob Hall. 11 minutes later, we doubled our advantage with a super strike from Sam Beard into the roof of the net. We carried on the half strongly with some brilliant chances and went into half-time 2-0 up. At the interval I went for the usual hot chocolate but shout-out to Aldershot who gave me cream and a flake on the top too! The second-half started very well too with Adam Marriott getting his second of the afternoon eight minutes in. Aldershot had a few more chances but Harry Taylor made some excellent tackles to stop any danger. We carried on attacking and were unlucky not to add to our tally. Four minutes were added at the end of the game and unfortunately Aldershot got one back in the 93rd minute, but the whistle blew soon after and we had our three points. The boys came over to a lot of well-deserved praise from the fans who were in good voice all afternoon. My parents and I walked back up the massive hill where we had parked and set off back to London where we arrived around 18:00. It made a nice change as every time we’ve been to Aldershot before, it’s been a trip back up to Leeds! We had a takeaway and got to enjoy a Saturday night in London to top off a brilliant day in Aldershot.

WHAT’S THE Buzz
WHAT’S THE Buzz 14 fans have been banned by Bolton Wanderers following several incidents involving disorder and antisocial behaviour. These incidents were reported to have taken place during recent matches, including against Sunderland, Cambridge United and Morecambe - with the perpetrators ages ranging from 15 to 57.
Wrexham have this week announced their plans to regain the control of their Racecourse Stadium.
This takes the total of fans banned by the club this season alone up to 30, with the Trotters saying that they expect that figure to rise as investigations continue. The side currently sit in 10th place in the League One, 11 points from the lowest play-off spot and 13 off the relegation zone, following their promotion from League Two last season.
Joint chairmen Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have confirmed that the club are in talks with Wrexham Glyndwr University to purchase the freehold of the ground and are at an advanced stage which is expected to be completed before April. The ground has not been owned by the club since 2011, with the Hollywood pair stating shortly after their arrival last year that they intended to regain the control of the stadium. The ground is also famous for being the oldest one in the world to still be hosting international matches.
It has been revealed that the cat that ran onto the pitch during Sheffield Wednesday’s game against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night had been missing for many months and had been presumed as dead. Topsey the cat had escaped from Alison Jubb, her owner, during a trip to a cattery in the north of the city last June. After the cat was caught on the pitch, she was taken to a vet to be examined, before eventually being identified and reunited with her owner. The vet identified that the cat had some bite marks on her neck, assumed to be from a dog.
WHAT’S THE Buzz
WHAT’S THE Buzz
Former Bee Ricardo Santos has had his red card overturned after an appeal. The current Bolton Wanderers captain was sent off during the Trotters’ 1-1 draw away at Morecambe last weekend for a supposed deliberate handball in the penalty area. An independent regulatory commission upheld the suspension due to a wrongful dismissal. The hosts missed the subsequent penalty through Cole Stockton, with the player redeeming himself by scoring from open play three minutes later. Bolton levelled in the 14th minute of added time with a shot from Amadou Bakayoko. This came after the game was stopped due to a barrage of abuse from the supporters in the stands, which included racism, with the players even having to be removed from the pitch on the 88th minute.
Wayne Rooney has this week been contacted by the FA in relation to some comments that he made in a recent interview. The 36-year-old Derby County manager said in the interview that when playing for Manchester United in 2006, he changed the studs on his boots to long metal ones in a match against Chelsea in an attempt to “try and hurt someone”. The FA are now seeking observations from England’s all-time record goalscorer because of this comment. This incident came just several years after his former United teammate Roy Keane was fined and banned by the FA for a claim in his autobiography that he had deliberately tried to hurt Manchester City player Alf-Inge Haaland in 2001.
Anwar Uddin, who used to play for the Bees, has been appointed to the coaching staff of the England C national team by another former Bee, Paul Fairclough - who is manager of the side. England’s non-league side will take on their Welsh counterparts – Wales C – on 30th March at Caernarfon Town, with their side being made up of players from the Cymru Premier League - the top tier of football in Wales. Uddin was Barnet captain under Fairclough and also played for Dagenham & Redbridge as they got promoted up to League One. During his playing career, he also donned the shirt of Bristol Rovers and a host of non-league sides. Uddin was also assistant manager at Barnet and Maldon & Tiptree for short spells, as well as managing Sporting Bengal United, Ware and Glebe, before returning to being an assistant with Aldershot Town.

MATCH Report
MATCH Report THE BEES SUFFERED A HEAVY DEFEAT AT HOME TO LEAGUE LEADERS STOCKPORT COUNTY – LOSING 5-0 IN THE VANARAMA NATIONAL LEAGUE. Stockport created the first chance of the afternoon in the 21st minute as Liam Hogan got on the end of Antoni Sarcevic’s free-kick and headed narrowly wide of the post from close-range. Just minutes later, the visitors went close again as Scott Quigley’s cross from the left flank found Paddy Madden inside the box who glanced his header just past the far post. In the 31st minute Dave Challinor’s side were awarded a freekick on the edge of the box after Reiss Greenidge brought down Will Collar. Ryan Rydel stood over the set-piece and struck the ball over the wall and against the top of the crossbar. Following a Bees free-kick, Stockport broke away quickly as they searched for the opening goal in the 39th minute. Ryan Croasdale was played in behind the defence and looked to have broken the deadlock only for Aston Oxborough to pull out a reactional fingertip save onto the frame of the goal. On the stroke of half-time, the Hatters took the lead as Macauley Southam-Hales drove into the box and lofted the ball towards Will Collar who headed home from two-yards out. Eight minutes into the second period, the visitors doubled their advantage in front of their supporters. Ryan Rydel whipped in a corner towards Ryan Johnson at the near-post who got in front of his defender to nod the ball in. Stockport then added a third in the 68th minute after a Southam-Hales cross was deflected behind by Sam Woods. From the resulting corner, Rydel once again sent in an inviting ball and Hogan rose highest and headed downwards into the net.
The league leaders hit the net for the fourth time late on as John Rooney’s quick free-kick found the run of Connor Jennings who shot across goal and into the far corner. In the final moments the Hatters scored a fifth after Johnson was first to a loose ball in the box and prodded home from close-range to ensure his side extended their winning run to nine games.
