HARRY KEWELL
HEAD COACH HARRY KEWELL
Thank you for joining us, Harry. Having had some time to reflect back on Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Solihull Moors, how do you feel it went? “I am looking forward to it and am taking a lot of positives out of the last few games. We have performed at a certain level that has seen us play some very good football and score some very good goals. “We are working on some key areas including our defence, but overall, I am feeling very excited for the game ahead.” Eastleigh are in a similar position in the table to us, so after playing some tough opposition over the last few weeks, does this affect the way that we have prepared going into Saturday? “Not at all. We know that we have played four difficult games, however we are also aware that no game in this division will be easy. “We all know what our standard has to be and it is going to be no different for this weekend. “Eastleigh are going to come here believing that they are going to get something, and we have got to deny them that.” Ahead of a full week of training, how is the squad looking? “We are working very hard in training and over the next coming weeks we will be getting players back. In each week we will be strengthening our squad.”
HARRY KEWELL
We scored three really good goals against Grimsby Town last Saturday but still could not get over the line and secure three points. What do you think needs to happen to get our first win of the season? “We must keep doing our jobs and continue to work hard. We must have the right attitude and understand the work ethic that is needed, but most importantly execute it out on the pitch. “We are getting close and it is going to be tough. I have said from day one that it was going to be a really tough start to the season. “We are still a brand-new squad and the players are working really hard. Their attitude has been great. We are hungry for that first win of the season and we will work for it.” We will be back in front of our home supporters at The Hive London when we host the Spitfires. What impact can they have on the outcome of the result on Saturday? “They have got to be fantastic and be supportive of the team. We understand that there is probably a lot of frustration out there, but we are all working together. “We need that 12th man and they have shown how good they can be during the matches so far this season. I am hoping that we can really combine together and be one.”
WALKING FOOTBALL

BARNET OVER 50’S WE ARE PROUD OF THE WORK THAT THE HIVE FOUNDATION HAS DONE RECENTLY As our players Paul Strom and Herbert Riches played for the England Walking Football Team (EWFC) against Wales in Birmingham. Our over 70’s team also played in its very first ever National UK tournament at Watford FC. We topped our group after beating holders Nottingham 1-0, Exeter 2-0, Cheshunt 2-0 and drawing 0-0 with Birmingham. Our quarterfinal with Bedworth ended 0-0, with a controversial penalty decision seeing us lose in the shoot-out. Overall, it was a very proud day to not concede a goal in open play, thanks to our ‘keeper Bill Charge. Our monthly cycle and walking groups continue to grow and we will start our gardening group soon. We will be working with the Colindale Community Garden helping to grow produce for local food banks. If you would like to join our Walking Football Team, please email Barnetwft@ yahoo.com, when our sessions are every Tuesday 19:30-20:30 and Friday 14:00-15:00. We look forward to seeing you soon! Come on you Bees!

DAVID SESAY
David, you have been here for a few weeks, how have you found it so far?
Looking ahead to the game on Saturday, what are you expecting from Eastleigh FC?
“It has been really good. I have been involved in a few games now and it has been great to play for the Club and to be out there with the other players.
“They are going to be a very good and tough team, but we know what we have got to do.
“Unfortunately we have not got the result we wanted so far, but we are building towards a really good squad. “Hopefully, the results start coming our way because we have played well in the past couple games.” The fans have taken an instant liking to you which must be quite pleasing to see? “Yes, it is. I heard them up in Grimsby singing my name which gave me a boost to go and play better. It gives you confidence whilst you are out there on the pitch. “I have seen people on Twitter that have been messaging me which is nice to see. I have been interacting with them, so they know I am reading the comments and that it is having a positive impact on me.”
“We need to focus on ourselves and how we play. We have got our instructions and it is going to be a good game. Hopefully, we can get three points this time.” What do you think needs to happen for us to get our first three points of the season? “We need to keep doing what we are doing and see out the game. “We were 3-1 up at Blundell Park and although some decisions did not go our way, sometimes you have got to get on with it and try and see out the game. “I do think the results are going to come our way. We have been unlucky recently, but I am feeling positive going forwards.” We are playing back at home at The Hive London this Saturday. What sort of an impact can the fans have on the team’s performance?
You played well against Grimsby and helped to set up the first goal. That must do a lot for your confidence.
“They can have a massive impact because the fans are the 12th man.
“Yeah, it is massive. Getting an assist early in the match does wonders for your confidence.
“They help build momentum in games, so when we get an attack and the fans start roaring, it gives you a boost to keep attacking.
“Obviously, it was not the result we wanted against Grimsby, but on a personal level I felt it was a good moment for me. “Hopefully, I can bring those same levels of performance into the game on Saturday.”
“We hear them, and we appreciate the support. We hope that we can hear them again on Saturday to give them a positive result.”
THE OPPOSITION
TODAY’S OPPOSITION
Playing home matches firstly on Southampton Common, and then at ‘Westfield’ in Swaythling, the new club were promoted into the Hampshire League in 1950 after two campaigns spent in the Southampton Senior League (West). Within another year, Athletic, (that appellation was dropped in 1973) had topped Division Three (West) and won the Hampshire Intermediate Cup. By 1956, Swaythling were playing in the 1st Division of the County league. They would return to that level in 1970 as champions of Division 2. In keeping with their early progress, the club moved to a new ground at Ten Acres in 1957 – which remains home to this day. The change to their current name was made in 1980, six years before Eastleigh F.C. became founder members of the Wessex League. The club settled at that level, until a distinguished period under the management of present Sutton United boss Paul Doswell which began in 2002/2003. Eastleigh were that season’s Wessex League Champions. Twelve months later, they finished 4th in the Southern Football League Division One East.
The club were beneficiaries of the F.A.’s restructuring of the nonleague pyramid, and were elevated to begin 2004/2005 in the Premier Division of the Isthmian League. On-pitch advancement was being matched off the field. A new stand was constructed in time for the Isthmian campaign, which the team finished with a run of 14 unbeaten matches. That was enough to earn Eastleigh a play-off berth, which they capitalised on fully. Victories over Braintree Town (2-0), and Leyton (1-0) ensured that Doswell had taken his team from Wessex League to Conference South in the space of three heady years. Development of the ground has continued, with improvements made in 2006 both to the stand opposite the main grandstand, and that behind the goal furthest from the clubhouse. Eastleigh’s present owners, Bridle Insurance, whose purchase of a majority shareholding in the club was confirmed in February 2012, have further upgrading of the ‘Silverlake Stadium’ high on their list of priorities.
THE OPPOSITION
Over nine years in the Conference South, Eastleigh have twice flirted with promotion to non-league’s highest tier.
That is a fact to which founder, Director, and Life President, Derik Brooks will undoubtedly testify.
In 2009, under the management of former Leeds United forward Ian Baird, the Spitfires lost a play-off semi-final against Hayes & Yeading United.
Eastleigh’s success didn’t stop there – promotion was gained from the Conference South in 2014, where they won the league title.
A 4-0 extra-time home defeat cancelled out Eastleigh’s 4-2 first-leg victory. In 2012/2013, a campaign which saw Baird replaced by current boss Richard Hill in September, the Spitfires’ second half of the season form took them from 21st to 4th place, and a play-off meeting with Dover Athletic. A 3-1 home reverse was wiped out with a 2-0 win in Kent, but, ultimately, a losing penalty shoot-out ended Eastleigh’s promotion aspirations. The intervening years brought the Spitfires’ only ever appearance in the F.A. Cup first round, and some silverware. The 2009/2010 cup adventure was ended by a last gasp goal which earned then Conference Premier team Barrow a 2-1 home win. Eastleigh’s trophy joy came in the 2011/2012 Hampshire Senior Cup. In a final played at Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium against AFC Totton – on a night which featured the first live testing of goalline technology – the Spitfires were 2-0 winners. Eastleigh can lay claim to their part in football history then, but they hope to make headlines all of their own in the coming years. The high ambition of all involved with the club comes at no cost to the inclusive and fan friendly atmosphere which exists at the Silverlake Stadium.
The following season, the Spitfires made the play-offs, however they couldn’t get past a strong Grimsby Town outfit who went on to gain promotion. The following season saw an impressive FA Cup run, in which Eastleigh took Championship side Bolton Wanderers to a replay. The following season was the same story, with Eastleigh losing away to Championship team Brentford in the Third Round. In the 2018/19 season, under the guidance of Ben Strevens, Eastleigh finished 7th in the Vanarama National League. This meant they would face Wrexham in the Play Off Eliminator. The game finished 0-0 after normal time and it took a Danny Hollands wonder strike to send Eastleigh through to the Play Off semi finals versus Salford. Again the semi final went to extra time after the game finished 1-1. Only for Eastleigh to narrowly avoid a trip to Wembley after being knocked out on penalties.
Andrew Boyce SIGNED FROM GRIMSBY TOWN IN 2017, BOYCE IS A WELL-ROUNDED AND RELIABLE DEFENDER WHO HAS CEMENTED HIMSELF AS A FANS FAVOURITE AT EASTLEIGH. During the 2014/15 season whilst at Scunthorpe United, he gained promotion to League One. As well as plenty of National League experience, Boyce is no stranger to playing in higher divisions with over 50 appearances in League One and League Two combined. The centre-back has played over 150 times for the Spitfires, and has scored seven goals in total ahead of his fifth season at the club.
Ryan Hill RYAN HILL IS ANOTHER NEW ADDITION TO THE SPITFIRES Signing during the start of the 2020/21 season on a permanent deal from Hampton & Richmond Borough. Hill started his career at Beaconsfield, before being scouted by Stoke City and joining their youth academy in 2017. After a season with the Potters, he moved to Hampton & Richmond to gain regular first-team football, and impressed with his pace and trickery on the ball. Ryan’s 2019/20 season saw him score eight goals and get 14 assists in 33 games, before scoring four times and getting three assists in 31 games in his debut year at National League level.

Tom Whelan WHELAN JOINED EASTLEIGH IN THE SUMMER OF 2021 FOLLOWING HIS DEPARTURE FROM NATIONAL LEAGUE RIVALS CHESTERFIELD. The centre-midfielder enjoyed a successful 2020/21 campaign with the Spireites, after joining them in January from Weymouth. He scored eight goals in 34 games across both clubs, with five of those strikes coming in 27 games for Chesterfield as he played a key part in their run to the playoffs.
Ben House BEN HOUSE JOINED THE CLUB AHEAD OF THE 2020/21 SEASON. The 21-year-old striker joined the Spitfires following his release from Championship side, Reading. Despite being born in England, he has represented Scotland at U20 and U21 level. House settled in well at the Silverlake and continued some impressive pre-season form in the league, as his five league goals in the first five games earned him the National League Player of the Month in October 2020. He went on to score nine goals and record five assists in the 2020/21 season despite missing a handful of games through injury.

GRIMSBY AWAY POSTCARD It’s been a few years since our last trip to Grimsby and I was looking forward to the day out because it’s usually an
eventful game! Grimsby is one of the few days where living in Leeds gives us an advantage as we got a lovely lie in and left around midday. Unfortunately, the drive there took a little longer than usual due to a closure on the M62 but we
arrived in Grimsby in enough time to find parking on the busy streets that surround Blundell Park. After finding a spot
we made our way to the ground to pick up our tickets. A big shout out to the Grimsby fan who bought us a programme
because we didn’t have the exact change! I forgot how annoying the walk around to the away end was, but we made our way around and inside the ground to take our seats with the other travelling Barnet fans.
Just four minutes into the game, it seemed as though it would be another eventful match as the referee gave Grimsby a penalty for a handball. The penalty was put away in front of us to give the hosts an early lead. Despite this, we were
playing well and had chances going forward. On the 33rd minute we were rewarded with an equaliser. Sesay did well down the wing and put in a low ball to Tasdemir who put it away. The goal gave us confidence and about 10 minutes
later we scored again with Bloomfield getting his first goal for the Club! We went into half-time with the advantage and
had 15 minutes to get some drinks ready for the second half. The second period started well with some good football and
things got even better on the 62nd minute when Widdowson added a goal right in front of our fans. We were 3-1 up and loving life. Unfortunately, just two minutes later the referee gave the Mariners another penalty for a handball, but this
time he also sent off Doherty and then Harry Kewell on the touchline! Grimsby scored the penalty, and we were all so
nervous for what was to come. The hosts managed to level the score on 75 minutes and with a one-man disadvantage, I was not looking forward to the final 15 minutes. We carried on the half well considering the circumstances and had chances ourselves but couldn’t score. During the second minute of second-half stoppage time, the referee awarded
Grimsby a free-kick which Hunt hit beautifully into the top corner to secure Grimsby the three points. The boys came over at the end to lots of applause from the fans, which they definitely deserved.
Being so close to the seaside, it seemed a waste of a day to go home straightaway so my parents, my brother and I
headed to Cleethorpes where we enjoyed a game of crazy golf (I lost), some penny machines, VERY cheap, but tasty fish and chips and some doughnuts before heading home. We were back in Leeds around 9:30pm – probably not
dissimilar to those fans who had come from London! It was absolutely gutting to lose the game as we really didn’t deserve to but despite the result, it was a lovely day out and another eventful game at Blundell Park!

Eastleigh
Matches between Barnet FC and Eastleigh FC are relatively new, with the clubs meeting for the first time in October 2014. The sides have met seven times in competitive games (plus one friendly), but there was no game at The Hive London in 2019/20, due to the season being curtailed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Coulson, Bondz N’Gala, Mark Marshall, Sam Muggleton, Hakim Odoffin, Ben Togwell, plus current Bees player, Josh Payne. Martin Allen has managed both teams, while ex-Bees Ben Strevens and Ross Flitney are the current Manager and Goalkeeping Coach of the Spitfires.
Strangely, Barnet FC have won most matches at the Silverlake Stadium and Eastleigh have won most matches at The Hive London. The Bees won the first game at home, but have lost the two games since, including a painful 5-1 defeat on the first game of the 2020/21 season. Barnet FC have won three and lost one of the games played at Eastleigh. The Bees have scored 10 goals against the Spitfires, who themselves have scored 12 times. There have not yet been any draws in games between the sides. All the games between the sides have been at The Hive London or Silverlake Stadium, to which Eastleigh FC moved to in 1957, and all of the games have been in the Vanarama National League. Eastleigh FC did the double over the Bees in 2020/21. Apart from the Eastleigh victory at Barnet, Eastleigh also won, by 3-0, at their home stadium, as recently as May, with goals from Tyrone Barnett, Joe Tomlinson and Sam Smart. Tyrone Barnett had also scored in the Eastleigh victory at Barnet and has now played against Barnet for Macclesfield Town, Crawley Town and Eastleigh on a total of six occasions, scoring three goals. The Barnet side for that game in May was: Adam Parkes, Lee Vaughan, Ben Nugent, Ben RichardsEverton, Sam Beard, Themis Kefalas, Harry Taylor, Sam Skeffington, Alex McQueen (Michael Petrasso), Ephron Mason-Clark, Tomi Adeloye. The highest attendance for a Barnet FC vs Eastleigh FC match was 2,034 at Eastleigh in March 2015. To date, Graham Stack is the only player to have played for both sides in this fixture, but he would be joined by Adam Marriott if he appears today, having played for the Spitfires against the Bees in May. Ross Flitney, Jack Midson, Paul McCallum and Ben Strevens are also former Bees who have played for Eastleigh against Barnet. Others who have played for both clubs, but not in this fixture, include Luke

There is nothing like a winner away in second-half stoppage-time to make the journey home seem shorter. On 31 August 2019, Shaq Coulthirst’s late winner for the Bees against Eastleigh at the Silverlake Stadium saw the Barnet fans and team return home happy. Barnet had some early chances and took the lead in the 16th minute. Jack Taylor, who now plays for Peterborough, hit a shot from the edge of the box into the top corner. Further chances in the first half fell to Simeon Akinola for Barnet and Jack McKnight for Eastleigh, but both went wide.
securing the winner following a Max Stryjek error. A jubilant Darren Currie went over to the travelling Barnet FC fans to celebrate at the final whistle.

Barnet: Scott Loach, Cheye Alexander, Callum Reynolds, Ricardo Santos, Harry Taylor (Andre Boucaud), Jack Taylor, Charlee Adams (Shaq Coulthirst), Dan Sparkes, Simeon Akinola, Ephron Mason-Clark, Josh Walker. Attendance: 1,922.
In the second half, the Bees saw efforts from Josh Walker and Simeon Akinola well saved, but Eastleigh pressed for an equaliser. Early on, Tyrone Barnett had a good opportunity blocked on the line and later another shot from the striker sailed just over the bar. Then after 69 minutes, Eastleigh made it 1-1, with McKnight scoring from Joe Partington’s assist. The game was set up for a tense finale. Barnet hearts stopped in the 84th minute when Sam Smart went down in the Barnet box and it looked as though a penalty would see Eastleigh victorious. But the referee gave Smart a second yellow card for diving, and the Bees were suddenly in the driving seat. Coulthirst was brought on with four minutes of normal time remaining and Barnet’s numerical advantage told, with Coulthirst

ON THIS Day
ON THIS day 11 years ago (2010): The Bees lost 0-1 away at Lincoln City in front of 2,884 spectators. At the end of that season, Lincoln finished on 47 points and Barnet on 48. Lincoln were relegated to the Vanarama National League (then the Football Conference) and did not regain their League Two status until 2017. Now the Imps are in League One and missed out on promotion last season after losing the Sky Bet League One Play-Off Final to Blackpool.
17 years ago (2004): Away at Tamworth in the Vanarama National League, Barnet won 2-0, thanks to first-half goals from Dean Sinclair and Giuliano Grazioli. A total of 1,199 spectators were in attendance. Dwane Lee received his marching orders near the end of the match.
20 years ago (2001): Barnet lost 0-1 away to Morecambe in the Vanarama National League. It was the first ever meeting between the sides and was seen by a crowd of 1,462. The Barnet team included current Eastleigh Manager, Ben Strevens.
AND CURRENTLY It is now over nine months (17 games) since Barnet FC last drew at home. The Bees have drawn five games away during the same period. Opponents have now scored from three penalties against Barnet this season, following the two penalties awarded to Grimsby Town last Saturday. Barnet have yet to be awarded a spot kick this season. Last season, Barnet conceded five penalties and scored five. JJ Hooper scored twice from the spot, with Michael Petrasso, Ephron Mason-Clark and Courtney Baker-Richardson bagging one each. Two Bees players have scored on their debut this season: Daniel Powell (v Solihull Moors) and Joe Widdowson (v Grimsby Town). Rather curiously, Barnet FC have not played at home on 11 September since 1993, when they lost to AFC Bournemouth.
22 years ago (1999): Swansea City entertained Barnet in the fourth tier of English football at the Vetch Field, with the Bees ran out 2-1 winners in front of 5,167 fans. Barnet’s goals came from Darren Currie and Ken Charlery.

WHAT’S THE Buzz
WHAT’S THE Buzz With the first qualifying round replays having been completed midweek, the draw for next weekends’ Emirates FA Cup Second Qualifying Round has been completed. Wingate and Finchley will be at home against Baldock Town, Kingstonian, who beat Oxhey Jets 8-1 in their replay on Wednesday, will play Horsham.
National League North side Boston United have released a statement through their Club website saying that former player Andy Butlers’ departure from the club was a breach of contract. The former Scunthorpe United, Huddersfield Town and Walsall defender had signed a contract to play for the Pilgrims over the summer, having left former club Doncaster Rovers (which included a stint as interim manager), but left this week to take up a specialist set piece coaching role at Championship side, Peterborough United.
Hadley who were victorious over Enfield on Tuesday, will travel to Enfield Town whilst Harrow Borough are on the road at Welling United. Aylesbury United will host Bishop’s Cleeve, Broadfields United will be at home to Hashtag United, Chesham United will travel to Chertsey Town, Cheshunt will be away at Hitchin Town, Welwyn Garden City will be on the road to Bedford, Ware take on Hemel Hempstead Town, Kings Langley host Leiston. Our Fourth Qualifying round opponents last season, St Albans City will go to Concord Rangers, Hornchurch will host Walthamstow, Bishop’s Stortford take on Bowers and Pitsea, and Barking will play AFC Dunstable, if they can beat Aveley in this Monday’s replay.
The 37-year-old, who also featured for Grimsby Town, Blackpool and Sheffield United during his 19-year playing career, was reportedly still contracted to the Lincolnshire side, but has still departed the club.
Abdallah Lemsagam, the Moroccan chairman of Sky Bet League Two side Oldham Athletic, has insisted that he does not want to sell his share in the club. Having taken over the Greater Manchester side in 2018, the same year that the side had been relegated to the fourth tier, Lemsagam has also claimed that he has not received any offers from anyone to buy the Club. As a result of this, several fans have been staging protests, including some halting last weekends’ 3-0 home defeat at Boundary Park by Barrow, invading the pitch and sitting on the field. The side currently sit in 23rd place in the fourth tier, just one point above bottom Sutton United. JOSH Palmer
WHAT’S THE Buzz
MK Dons have been fined £2,500 this week for failing to control the behaviour of some of their players. The incident in question came in the sides’ 2-0 home win against Accrington Stanley on 28th August at Stadium MK. The incident occurred on the 73rd minute, when the hosts were 1-0 up, with their players not acting “in an orderly fashion”, after a foul by an Accrington player. The side sit in 9th place in the third tier, one point off the playoff spots, and three off of the top spot, with six games played so far.
Former Premier League defender Pape Souare has signed for League One side Charlton Athletic on a free transfer. The 31-year-old was without a club, having been released by Ligue 1 side Troyes over the summer. The Senegal international started out his career in his homeland with Diambars, before earning a transfer to France with Lille, spent time equally between their B team and first teams. After a loan spell at Reims, he moved to England with Crystal Palace, for a fee reported to be £3.45 million in January 2015. He would spend the next three-and-a-half years at Selhurst Park, returning to France in August 2019, joining the Ligue 2 side. He also has 22 international caps for Senegal. The defender moves to The Valley on a one-year deal, subject to international clearance.
Championship side Nottingham Forest have signed Brazilian defender Rodrigo Ely on a free transfer. The 27-year-old joins on a one-year contract. Ely started his career in his homeland with Gremio, before moving to Europe in 2012 with AC Milan. He would not make an appearance at San Siro, before enduring loans at Reggina and Varese in Italy’s lower divisions. After a year at U.S. Avellino 1912, he transferred back to AC, this time featuring just four times in his two-year stay, with a loan to Spain with Deportivo Alaves, whom he later signed for on a permanent deal. Forest are bottom of the second tier, having lost four and drawn one of their opening five games.

A-Z OF FORMER Barnet players
JASON Puncheon Born in Croydon, Greater London, Puncheon began his career with Wimbledon, and moved with the team to Milton Keynes, where the club became Milton Keynes Dons in 2004. In 2006 he moved on after he was released. The midfielder moved to Barnet FC in June of the same year, after brief spells with Fisher Athletic and Lewes. He was named Emirates FA Cup Player of the Third Round in 2007 and the following season, after scoring a succession of brilliant goals (including a last minute 35-yard free kick versus Bradford City) was named in the PFA Team of the Season. Puncheon seemed to be hitting a very good run of form and turning his career around. Plymouth Argyle signed Puncheon from Barnet FC for £250,000 in 2008. It was not a successful spell after moving away from the Bees as he was loaned to former club MK Dons three times in two years, where he scored 12 goals in 61 appearances. On 30th January 2010, Puncheon joined Southampton which then led to his loan deal at MK Dons to be cut short. He scored his first goal in a 5–1 victory over Walsall which was a very bright start for him at the Club. At the start of the 2010/11 season, he found himself on the team sheet on a regular basis and everything was going well. However, when Alan Pardew was sacked, Southampton hired Nigel Adkins as manager. Under Adkins, he stayed in the first team, but found himself under increasing pressure from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for his place. The up-and-coming young star was looking promising and eventually Adkins lost patience with Puncheon’s erratic performances and dropped him to the bench in favour of 17-year-old Chamberlain, who was then sold to the Gunners for a fee of £15 million. In early January 2011, Puncheon joined Blackpool on-loan until the end of the season where he made his debut, scoring a goal, at Everton on February 5th. He scored his second goal against Chelsea on March 7th at Bloomfield Road. After Blackpool failed to come out on top in the relegation battle,

he decided that his future was not with the Seasiders. He then publicly criticised Executive Chairman Nicola Cortese. However just days later, it was revealed that Puncheon had apologised to Cortese and would be available for selection in the first team. He then started the next two matches after everything was sorted out. Although Puncheon, after a bright start, failed to find his feet in the Premier League with the Saints. On 21 August 2013, Puncheon signed a one-year loan-deal with London side Crystal Palace. Then in January 2014, Puncheon made his loan spell into a permanent move, for a fee of around £1.75m. Puncheon proceeded to play a major role in helping keep Palace up and gained interest from various clubs. During Palace’s first match of the new season away to Arsenal in August 2014, Puncheon took a corner which was headed in by Brede Hangeland for the first goal of the game. He was sent off in the 89th minute for a second booking but after another good season, Pardew wanted to keep Puncheon at the Club. On 6th April 2015, Puncheon scored the winning goal for Crystal Palace against Manchester City with a free kick which went past Manchester City’s goalkeeper Joe Hart. He opened the scoring in the 2016 FA Cup Final against Manchester United with a goal in the 78th minute, but Palace went on to lose the match 2–1 after extra time. Puncheon replaced Scott Dann as Club Captain in the Summer of 2017. In January 2018, manager Roy Hodgson announced that Puncheon would play no further part in the 2017/18 season following a cruciate ligament injury sustained while playing against Manchester City. In May 2019, Crystal Palace issued a statement that Puncheon would leave the club at the end of the 2018/19 season after having played a substantial role for the Club, making 169 appearances and scoring 16 goals. On 4 January 2019, Puncheon signed for Premier League club Huddersfield Town on-loan until the end of the season. In August 2019, Puncheon completed a move to the Cypriot leagues with First Division side Pafos where he remains to this day.

MATCH Report left corner to get off the mark for the season.
THE BEES FELL TO A NARROW DEFEAT AT BLUNDELL PARK – LOSING 4-3 TO GRIMSBY TOWN IN SECOND-HALF STOPPAGE TIME. The afternoon began in good spirits but Harry Kewell’s side were pegged back after four minutes when the referee Daniel Middleton awarded a penalty for handball, following a corner into the box. Jon McAtee stepped up for the resulting spot-kick and converted into the bottom right corner to take the lead. Harry Kewell’s side weathered the storm over the next 10 minutes and almost got level shortly after when Kian Flanagan brought the ball into the final third before spreading it to David Sesay on the edge of the box. The 22-year-old defender found space just inside of the box to get a shot away and fire the ball just over the crossbar to worry James McKeown in the Grimsby goal. The Bees continued the pressure and went close again when Mason Bloomfield received the ball from Josh Doherty’s corner. The ball bounced around the inside of the box before falling to 24-year-old on the edge who struck a powerful half-volley into the bottom left corner and forced a diving save from McKeown. Harry Kewell’s side found a leveller just after the half hour mark when David Sesay skipped past Adam Crookes on the right-side before darting forwards into the box to pick out Serhat Tasdemir, who stroked the ball home from closerange. Kian Flanagan was next to try his luck when he was given the ball from 25-yards out and curled a powerful effort towards the far corner that whistled just past the upright. The Bees deservedly took the lead just before half-time when Sesay picked up the ball on the edge of the 18-yardarea before passing it to Harry Taylor by the corner flag who picked out Bloomfield in the centre of the penalty area. The 6ft 3ins striker had his back to goal as he took the ball under control where he fired his turning shot into the bottom
The Bees added a third in the 62nd minute when Brundle launched his throw-in deep inside the box to Bloomfield who flicked his header behind him. Joe Widdowson was first to react to the ball that looped towards the back post and chested it into an empty net from very close-range. A frantic series of events followed just minutes later as the Mariners were awarded another penalty for handball off the line. The referee judged Josh Doherty to stop the goal bound effort from going in with his arm and showed the defender a red card. McAtee took the penalty and slotted it down the middle to reduce the arrears to one goal. Just seconds after McAtee netted his second penalty of the afternoon, the referee Middleton raced over to the Bees’ Head Coach Harry Kewell and sent him off for what seemed to be dissent in the aftermath of the goal. The Bees continued to withstand large spells of the hosts’ pressure but found themselves level in the 75th minute when Ryan Taylor headed in Sousa’s cross from a wide angle. The 33-year-old forward leapt across the front post to meet the cross and nod into the bottom corner past Sargeant. Paul Hurst’s side looked to find a winner during the last 20 minutes of the game as Sargeant pulled off a number of impressive diving saves to deny the hosts and keep the score at 3-3. However in the second minute of stoppage time the Mariners were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box after Josh Payne fouled a Grimsby attacker. The on-loan Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Alex Hunt stepped up and bent his free-kick around the wall and into the top right corner to give his side the lead late on and secure the three points for the hosts.

MATCH Report
MATCH Report THE BEES FINISHED THE BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND WITH A TOUGH TEST AGAINST TOP OF THE LEAGUE DAGENHAM AND REDBRIDGE.
Harry Kewell’s team looked to find a way back into the match 10 minutes later after Kian Flanagan and Harry Taylor composed a short corner together before floating the ball into Bloomfield. The 6ft 3ins striker found some space and leapt up to meet the cross, but he failed to find the target as his effort dropped wide of the post. A relatively even few minutes followed as the two teams tried to gain possession of the ball.
After a competitive start, Harry Kewell’s side began to control the opening stages in the first-half as Elliot Justham was called into action on a number of occasions. Serhat Tasdemir was the first to test the Dagenham stopper after collecting the ball on the edge of the box before finding space to let fly from 20-yards out and force Justham into a smart diving save across to the bottom corner. A series of corner’s followed for the Bees as Harry Taylor’s ball into the box found Mason Bloomfield. The 24-year-old rose highest to head back into the centre of the goal from six-yards out and make Justham tip the ball over for another corner. Despite the Bees enjoying large spells of pressure throughout the first 20 minutes, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock after 22 minutes. Will Wright took aim from 20-yards out to test Sargeant who got down well but parried into the path of Paul McCallum, where he converted into an empty-net. The visitors looked to further extend their lead on the halfhour mark as Josh Walker drove into the final third and beat his man to get a shot across goal and make Sargeant work. The Bees’ stopper saved brilliantly and palmed the ball away to safety. Daryl McMahon’s side doubled their lead on the 38th minute when the ball was lofted forward to McCallum inside the box who flicked his header towards goal. The ball ricocheted off a Bees player leaving Walker to pounce on the loose ball and convert from close-range. Dagenham came out for the second period with a high-level of intensity and came very close to adding a third when Will Wright picked up the ball in a wide position. The Daggers captain launched it across the pitch to Mauro Vilhete who watched his header bounce back across the goal and just wide of the upright.
McMahon’s side eventually worked themselves another opening when McCallum’s long throw over the top allowed Walker through on goal, but the Bees’ ‘keeper came rapidly off his line to narrow the angle and smother the ball. Ephron Mason-Clark made a big impact coming off the bench as he looked to help the side back into the match. The first of his chances came in the 70th minute when he found space on the edge of the box and let fly to force Justham into a diving save. The tricky winger had the visitors worried, once again, when Josh Doherty won the ball brilliantly high up the pitch and fed through Mason-Clark down the left sid The 22-year-old danced his way into the box and unleashed a powerful effort that landed just inches wide of the far post, leaving the visitors to claim all three points and remain at the top of the table.
