DEAN BRENNAN
I N T E R I M
HEAD COACH DEAN BRENNAN
Dean, thank you for joining us. How did the squad come through the Boreham Wood test? “We came through the test well and have had a bright week in training. We have dusted ourselves down following last week’s defeat. “I thought we played well in periods against Boreham Wood, especially in the first-half. When we went 1-0 down, we still continued to create openings and Adam Marriott hit the post. “We had our chances to win the game but did not take them unfortunately. It is important to learn that when we are on top, we need to be ruthless in front of goal. “This is important at any level of football and is something that we have been working on this week. “The lads’ attitude has been spot on and their mentality and focus has been excellent and we are really looking forward to the match.” Wrexham AFC have a long trip down on Saturday, especially coming off the back of a midweek Emirates FA Cup replay but I am sure we still know the fire power that they will bring to the match? “They are a good ambitious side and have invested a lot of money into their team. “I watched them on Tuesday night and I thought they did a very professional job over Marine.
DEAN BRENNAN
“Paul Mullin scored two fantastic goals and he is one of their dangerous players within the team.
“There are a lot of positives for us and we are really looking forward to tomorrow’s match and the week ahead.
“Their players have a lot of experience and a few of them have dropped down from the Football League, including the Manager Phil Parkinson.
“We have three games in seven days which makes it an exciting week for us all.”
“We are looking forward to the game and it is an exciting division to be in.” What are you expecting to see from our players when they take to the pitch, because they put out a good account of themselves against Boreham Wood last weekend? “We have just got to make sure that we finish our chances when we are on top. “We started on the front foot and we showed good character and mentality when we fell behind last week. “We are starting to build on our play and I am sure that we will continue to get stronger as the games go on.”
How important is it that the players continue to show the same fight and determination as they have done in recent weeks, given that we have got three games coming up in quick succession? “We will continue to take one game at a time and I have no doubt that they will continue to work their socks off. “We have got good energy in our team and Sam Woods has been excellent since coming into the squad. “There are plenty of options for the match and Serhat Tasdemir is now available for selection again.” What have you made of our supporters over the last few matches?
We have seen Jamie Turley’s recovery in recent weeks. How is he and the other injured players fairing?
“They have been excellent and they gave us a fantastic standing ovation at the end last week, even though we lost.
“Jamie Turley is progressing well and is ahead of schedule. He deserves a lot of credit for that and he is a big player for us.
“We all want to win football matches and if we continue to work together then we will certainly win more than we lose.”

BARNET OVER 50’S WE HAVE BEEN BUSY ON AND OFF THE PITCH SO FAR THIS MONTH. Our garden group spent a fantastic day in the sunshine planting turnips, kale and chard. The produce will be going to the local Colindale Community Garden food bank, where Eric Lipshaw has already delivered eight boxes of food to them! On the pitch we entertained Harvesters St. Albans, winning 4-0. Simon Swinnerton scored a hat-trick and Holly Small made her debut in defence. We then won 3-2 in the next game, which included an excellent goal from Tony Bartolo. In the recent EWFC England vs Ireland international, Paul Strom and Herby Riches represented England 70s and Tom Moran and Eddie O’Connor played for Ireland 60s, which is an amazing Club achievement! Our sessions are at The Hive London and are open to all! It is all about having a laugh and staying fit, so come and join us Tuesday’s 19:30-20:30 and Friday’s 14:00-15:00. TODAY’S LOOK AHEAD
ROB HALL
TODAY’S LOOK AHEAD
Rob, how have you found the first few weeks since coming in?
“Since I have come in, the training here has been really good and we have been working really hard.
“It has been really good because we have a great group of lads here. Dean Brennan has made it very easy for me to settle in as well.
“I hope this reflects out on the pitch for our supporters to see.”
“We are unbeaten in our last four league games and it is important that we keep our feet on the ground and continue to work hard.” You have been involved heavily in recent weeks which must be pleasing given the lack of game time you had last season? “I have played more league games this season than I did in the whole of last season which is good for me and something that I can only take as a positive.” As we look ahead to Wrexham AFC on Saturday, what are your initial expectations ahead of the match? “They are looking good and are a strong team. My cousin plays for them, so I have been keeping an eye on their results. “We can expect a hard game but we will take this match in our stride, as we would with the other tests that we have already come up against. “We believe that we can cause them problems and are really confident going into the match.” How are you feeling personally having had some time to rest and recover, following a tough test against Boreham Wood last weekend? “I think we are gelling really well as a group. “I was disappointed with the result last Saturday, but I believe that there were still positive aspects to take from the match. “Having a full week of training in the build up to this weekend has been good for us all.
There were positives from last Saturday’s match as you mentioned, but what are we bringing forwards into this next test? “I think we have to be critical of ourselves because we did not take our chances. This left the door open for Boreham Wood to capitalise, which they did. “There are still plenty of areas that we can improve on.” With a quick succession of matches coming up, how important is it that we return to winning ways and continue to build some momentum again? “The season is long and there is always time to build some winning runs and pick up more points. “We have to stand up to the challenge that is put in front of us. “I think it is a good time to start another unbeaten run and we will look forward to Saturday’s fixture.” We will be back in front of our home fans at The Hive London again. What have you made of their support so far? “They have been really good and they gave me a great reception whilst I was playing last weekend. “I can tell that they are a very big part of the Club and when we are in the huddles after the matches, it is nice to see them staying with the team.”

Hello, my name is Mike Riddle (aka Mikel) and I am a committee member of the recently reformed Supporters’ Association. I began watching Barnet FC in the late 90’s at the age of eight after passing by Underhill one evening and noticing the floodlights beaming in the sky above the Odeon cinema. Curious to see what was happening in this peculiar looking place, my brother and I peered through the gap in the North Terrace floodgates when a steward noticed us gawping. He may be the reason I’m here today. After disappearing for a moment to make sure the Chairman wasn’t looking up the slope, he snuck us in to watch the final 10 minutes of the game vs Exeter City. The lights, the atmosphere and Lee Harrison’s stunning last-minute save were all it took to have me captivated and lose interest in my Premier League team. From that moment I was hooked. While at University, I created the OnlyBarnet.com fans forum with the help of another committee member Sam Collins, a poster I only know as ‘Shankbee’ and good friend Sam Zokay, who I’m delighted to be seeing getting married to Ammna in Canada this weekend. Congratulations both! Nowadays I work as a Software Engineer, specialising in decentralised
finance and cryptocurrencies. I’m also interested in science and nature and enjoy travelling. I am pleased to be a part of the new BFCSA1926 and having the opportunity to work with other fans I had not met before. We are, after all, a group of individuals who answered a call from Mark Whitelegg to help form a new supporters’ group. That diversity of the committee has helped us keep an open mind on matters and propose some creative ideas. Despite only forming a few months ago, we have already been making good progress. We already have over 350 members, have held a constructive meeting with Tony Kleanthous, negotiated for the Legends bar to remain open until 18:00 for 15:00 kick offs, Season Membership Card seats reserved for cup games and agreed a hub for BFCSA1926 within the stadium. There’s so much more we can do and your contribution and feedback can only help us shape the Club as we want it to be. Be a part of it. If you haven’t already, sign up for free today at www. bfcsa1926.com. COME ON YOU BEES!

THE OPPOSITION
TODAY’S OPPOSITION
The third oldest professional football club in the world and the oldest in Wales, Wrexham AFC boast a proud and storied history. Winners of the Welsh Cup a record 23 times, Wrexham’s history is packed with giant-killing victories, European football – including beating Porto in the European Cup Winners Cup – a rollercoaster ride on and off the pitch. Wrexham were formed in 1864, and spent their formative years between the Combination, briefly the Welsh League and the Birmingham & District League. Exactly 100 years ago, the North Walian club were founder members of Division Three North and spent the next 87 consecutive seasons in the Football League. They peaked in 1978, earning promotion to the second tier – where they stayed for four seasons. After plummeting back down the leagues, they instead honed their reputations in the cups – the win against Porto one of several
giant-killing feats, which most famously included their 1992 FA Cup triumph against Arsenal. Off-the-pitch troubles, including a chairman who tried to turf them out of the Racecourse Ground and took them into administration, took their toll after the Millennium, however. Wrexham were relegated out of the Football League in 2008 and are now the longest-serving members of the National League. Multiple play-off places – including ten seasons ago finishing second despite earning 98 points – have failed to lead to promotion. A new chapter in the Club’s storied history was started in February 2021, when Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds had a bid accepted to takeover the Football Club from the Wrexham Supporters Trust.

MANAGER
PHIL PARKINSON Parkinson, 53, boasts nearly two decades’ experience as a manager, and has become highly respected in the game during a managerial career that has seen him take charge of six different clubs. During his time in the dug-out, Parkinson – who also played more than 500 league games in an 18-year playing career – has won promotion on three occasions. He arrives at the Racecourse Ground having most recently managed at Sunderland, replacing Dean Keates Parkinson began his career with Southampton before four years with Bury. His third and final
club as a player was Reading with whom he spent 11 years and played over 360 matches. Parkinson’s first managerial appointment came in 2003 as he took the reigns at Colchester before stints at Charlton Athletic and Hull City. He had great success with Bradford City including reaching the League Cup Final – whilst he also earned promotion. Promotion would also follow with Bolton Wanderers before heading to Sunderland. In July 2021 he was appointed Wrexham manager along with assistant Parkin and goalkeeper coach Lee Butler.
Rob Lainton FOLLOWING A STRING OF IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCES Lainton signed a permanent deal at the Cae Ras in November 2018 until the end of the season, having kept 14 clean sheets in the opening three months of the National League campaign. In the summer of 2019, Lainton signed a new deal to keep him in North Wales until 2021. During the 2020/21 campaign, Lainton made his 100th appearance for the club whilst also becoming the 5th highest in Wrexham’s all-time clean sheet records - ending the campaign on a total of 45 clean sheets in 102 games during his first three seasons. In the summer of 2021 upon the end of his contract, Lainton extended his deal signing a two-year contract keeping him at the club until the summer of 2023.
Jamie Reckord THE LEFT-BACK BECOME WREXHAM’S FIRST SIGNING OF THE SUMMER OF 2020. In August 2020 he became Dean Keates’ first signing ahead of the 2020/21 campaign penning a one-year contract. Immediately installed at left back, he started every game until he picked up an injury in mid-December. When he returned the side had shifted to a three-man defence, and Reckord relished hsi new role as a wing-back. He scored on his return to the team at Kings Lynn and notched another two games later against Dagenham. He ended the campaign with 6 assists, behind only Reece Hall-Johnson and Luke Young.

Luke Young YOUNG BEGAN HIS CAREER WHEN HE JOINED PLYMOUTH ARGYLE AS A NINE-YEAROLD. He spent four years with United and in 2018 earned the Player of the Season award, his second season doing so on the trot, before departing to join Wrexham on a 2-year deal. Young’s debut came in a 1-0 win over Dover Athletic on the opening day of the season, whilst he scored his first goal in October 2018, a long-range screamer at Dagenham & Redbridge that was rightfully awarded the goal of the season.
Paul Mullin MULLIN BEGAN HIS ILLUSTRIOUS CAREER IN THE LIVERPOOL ACADEMY 2020/21 saw practically every football match played behind closed doors. Without the influence of the fans as a 12th man, some players’ performances can suffer, but for Mullin it was a life-changing season. He was voted as the League 2 player of the season with Cambridge, as his emphatic 32 goals in the league campaign saw The U’s finish second and achieve promotion to League 1. The news broke on the 23rd July 2021 that Mullin would join Wrexham’s new enticing journey in a bid to rise up the football league system. The striker signed on a three year deal for an undisclosed fee, leaving every Wrexham fan itching to see the League 2 player of the season in action.

DOVER ATHLETIC AWAY POSTCARD
I had an early start for Dover because I went to the game on the minibus with a few other Barnet FC fans. We met in Barnet for a 9:00 departure and headed to Deal for our pre-match stop, arriving around 11:00. You wouldn’t have known it was October as the sun was out and it looked like a nice day by the sea. A group of us went on a little pub tour of Deal and discovered new places whilst catching up with one another. After a lovely morning, we set off to Dover just after 13:30 which gave us time to have another drink outside the stadium before we went in. We had brought another decent away following and we were ready for kick-off. Once again, we started the game very well and took the lead after 10 minutes in when Bloomfield scored a header from close-range. We continued to play well in the first half, but Dover also settled into the game and had their fair share of chances, which Aston Oxborough dealt with well on his debut. We went into half-time with the advantage and as the teams came back out for the second half, we hoped we would retain it. On 59 minutes, Powell made sure this was the case as he put us two ahead with a calm finish after some nice play from Bloomfield. However, just five minutes later, Dover got themselves back into the game when they scored from the edge of the box. We battled through the rest of the game and Oxborough dealt well their pressure well, leaving the Bees to see out a 2-1 victory. We applauded the players off the pitch and everyone was delighted to have come away with an important three points. We left the Crabble Stadium and got on the minibus for the journey back to Barnet, arriving back in North London at around 19:00. As the night was still young, a few of us decided to stick about in Barnet to watch the England game and have some more drinks in the pub. After a nice evening, I was back home just before midnight and ready for bed! I had a lovely day out with everyone and coming home with three points topped off the day nicely!

HEAD TO HEAD WITH Wrexham AFC
HEAD TO HEAD WITH
Wrexham AFC Barnet FC and Wrexham AFC have played each other on 21 occasions. Of these matches, 12 (up to 2008) were in the Football League (all of the home games being played at Underhill), and nine (from 2013 onwards) have been in the Vanarama National League (all at The Hive London). There have been 11 games at the Racecourse Ground, but only 10 at home, as the home fixture was not played in 2019/20 because of the curtailment of the season due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Barnet FC have won six times, drawn five games and lost on 10 occasions in games against the Red Dragons. The Bees have not won in the past seven meetings and last tasted success in February 2014. The top scorer for Barnet FC in all games against the Red Dragons is Mark Carter with three, while Gary Bull, Liam Hatch and Tresor Kandol have all netted twice. Mark Jones scored three for Wrexham AFC against the Bees.
2014, scoring the only goal. Jake will also have played for both Clubs in this fixture if he appears this afternoon. Winger Keanu Marsh-Brown represented the Bees three times (in 2013 and 2014) in games against the Red Dragons, and also played for Wrexham on four occasions late last season (but not against Barnet). Dominic Vose, who appeared for Barnet as a substitute in two games at the very end of the 2012/13 season, went on to play more or less a full season for Wrexham in 2015/16, but he did not play for either team in this particular fixture.
At home, Barnet’s record is three wins, two draws and five defeats. In these matches, the Bees have scored 14 goals and conceded 15. The highest attendance at Barnet FC in games between the two was 4,079 in January 1993, when the Bees won 3-1, thanks to goals from Mick Bodley, Carter and Derek Payne. The highest attendance for this fixture at the Racecourse Ground was 4,727 in 2018, when Barnet went down 1-0. Barnet last played Wrexham, at The Hive London, in March 2021. The Bees had drawn the game away earlier in the season, but on this occasion lost 2-0. Luke Young and Elliott Durrell scored the Wrexham goals, one in each half. The Barnet team was: Scott Loach, Lee Vaughan, Liam Daly, Ben Richards-Everton, Richard Taylor, Themis Kafalas, James Dunne (Harry Taylor), Alex McQueen, Anthony Wordsworth (Ephron Mason-Clark), Courtney BakerRichardson (Muhammadu Faal), JJ Hooper. JJ Hooper represented both Wrexham and Barnet in this fixture in consecutive seasons and scored for Wrexham in the 1-1 draw with the Bees in 2019. Last season he played for Barnet in both games against the Red Dragons, but without scoring. Jack Hyde, now with Wrexham, played for Barnet against Wrexham once, in the victory in February

The Red Dragons CLASSIC ENCOUNTER WITH
THE RED DRAGONS
On 29 March 2008, Barnet FC beat bottom club Wrexham AFC by the odd goal in a five-goal League Two thriller. Goals from Ismail Yakubu, Anthony Thomas and Nicky Nicolau clinched the points for the Bees.
Desperate for at least a draw, given their perilous league position, the Red Dragons threw caution to the wind, allowing Barnet more space. The Bees did not score again, but they did hit the framework three times, through Josh Wright and Keiron St Aimie twice before finally gaining all three points. At the end of the season, Barnet FC finished in the top half of League Two, a position not bettered since, while Wrexham AFC finished bottom and were relegated to the Vanarama National League.
TEAMS
Barnet came out of the traps fastest, with Thomas having a shot within seconds of the start. Wrexham had an effort of their own early on, which was blocked by Joe Devera, before Thomas and then Albert Adomah had further chances that came to nothing.
Barnet:
After a Matt Done effort was saved by Lee Harrison in the Bees goal and Yakubu failed to put away another Bees chance, it looked like the sides would go in at half-time all square. However, Yakubu, captaining the side, broke the deadlock in injury time when he got his head onto a Nicolau free-kick to put the Bees ahead and both managers subsequently agreed it was the turning point.
Wrexham:
Lee Harrison, Joe Devera, Ismail Yakubu, Sagi Burton, Kenny Gillet (Max Porter), Albert Adomah, Neal Bishop, Josh Wright, Nicky Nicolau, Anthony Thomas (Keiron St Aimie), Adam Birchall.
Gavin Ward, Simon Spender, Richard Hope (Mike Williams), Matt Done, Phil Bolland, Gareth Evans, Sam Aiston (Jeff Whitley), Paul Hall, Drewe Broughton, Michael Proctor, Chris Llewellyn. Attendance: 2,286.
Thomas put Barnet two up in the 51st minute. Collecting the ball from Adomah on the corner of the penalty area and finding the net, despite facing away from goal. The Bees may have thought they had the game secured the points, but four minutes later much-travelled loanee Drewe Broughton headed Wrexham back into contention. The game was end-to-end and it was only seven minutes later that Nicolau put Barnet two ahead once more, with a rare goal. Simon Spender reduced the arrears once more in the 66th minute. The rest of the game was tense, from both a Barnet and a Wrexham perspective.

ON THIS Day
ON THIS day 9 years ago (2012): Barnet’s League Two game away to Wycombe Wanderers ended goalless. It was Edgar Davids’ second game for the Club and the attendance was 3,244. The Bees finished the season on 51 points, but were relegated on goal difference.
11 years ago (2010): The Bees were at home to Macclesfield Town in League Two as Barnet FC won 1-0. Mark Byrne scored in the 9th minute, his second in consecutive games. The crowd was 1,594.
17 years ago (2004): The Bees beat York City 4-0 in a Vanarama National League game in front of 2,501 fans. The goals came through Nicky Bailey and Dwane Lee in the first half, and from Ismail Yakubu and Dean Sinclair in the second. Barnet finished the season as Champions and were promoted back to the Football League.
28 years ago (1993): Barnet FC lost 3-2 to Cambridge United in a third-tier game at Underhill. Geoff Cooper bagged a brace and the attendance was 2,997.
45 years ago (1976): The Bees, then playing in the Southern League, Division One South, lost 1-0 to Slough in the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup. There were 1,386 fans at Underhill for the game. In the league, Barnet finished that season top by seven points and were promoted back to the Southern League Premier Division.
50 years ago (1971): In a Southern League Premier Division game at home, Barnet drew with Telford United 1-1. The Bees’ goal came from Colin Flatt and 1,856 spectators were in attendance. Barnet finished the season in fourth, but made the final of the FA Trophy, losing to Stafford Rangers at Wembley.
&
CURRENTLY Barnet FC have now gone five consecutive games without conceding more than one goal in a match. This good defensive run is their best since they went 15 games without letting in more than a single goal in a game between 7 December 2019 and 22 February 2020, which was a run that got them into the Vanarama National League play-offs. The Bees come into today’s game on the back of two wins and two draws in their last four outings in the league. Wrexham AFC sit three points and five places above Barnet in the table but have managed just one win and one draw in their last four league games. The Red Dragons beat Marine in an FA Cup replay at home on Tuesday, having drawn with them last Saturday. Mitch Brundle has still started every competitive game for the Bees this season and has played every minute. Mason Bloomfield, Kian Flanagan and Ephron Mason-Clark have played a part in every game. Harry Taylor, Jordan Thomas and Ben Richards-Everton have played a part in all the games, apart from one. The size of the squad varies a good deal throughout the Vanarama National League. Boreham Wood have used 16 players to date, which is the least by any Club in the league, followed by Woking who have used 17 and Eastleigh FC and Weymouth FC who have both used 18. Dover Athletic have utilised the most players to date (25), followed by Stockport County who have used 24. Barnet FC and Southend United have both used 23 players. Today’s opponents Wrexham AFC have used 21 players so far this season.

WHAT’S THE Buzz
WHAT’S THE Buzz Following Coby Rowe reporting an incident to the match officials, Crawley Town were forced to issue a racism warning over the public address system during last Saturday’s fixture with Sutton United. Rowe, the Sutton United defender, told the officials that he was racially abused by the Crawley fans at the Broadfield Stadium on Saturday, which United would ultimately win 1-0. In a statement after the match, the club continued by posting a statement online, asking for anyone with information to report it to either the club or Sussex Police.
Last week saw the draw for FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round, which is set to take place next weekend. Local sides in action include Hitchin Town, who are at home to Leiston, Royston Town at home to Stratford Town, Bishop’s Stortford, who play Lewes, and Kings Langley, who are away at Cray Wanderers. Enfield Town are at home to Metropolitan Police, Hanwell Town go to Witham Town, Cheshunt are away at Corinthian Casuals, Welwyn Garden City face an away trip to Merstham, whilst Hayes and Yeading United go to Heybridge Swifts. Potters Bar Town entertain Haringey Borough, Hendon are in Kent at Folkestone Invicta, Wingate and Finchley have a London derby against Hornchurch, Harlow Town got to Bedfont Sports, Northwood are at home to Berkhamsted, Waltham Abbey are on the road at Bognor Regis Town, Chesham United host Bracknell Town and Uxbridge play Basildon United.

WHAT’S THE Buzz
With a majority of the first-round ties now complete, the draw for the second round of the London Senior Cup is now taking place. Dartford vs Cockfosters and Dulwich Hamlet vs Welling United are the only two confirmed ties so far. Tooting and Mitcham United will be at home to the winner of the Haringey Borough vs AFC Wimbledon (first round tie), Hendon will be at home to Balham or Wingate and Finchley, and Erith and Belvedere will travel to Glebe or Phoenix Sports. Barking or New Salamis will be at home to Metropolitan Police or Leyton Orient, Corinthian Causals or Harrow Borough will host Fisher or Brentford B and Tower Hamlets or Cray Valley Paper Mills will host Clapton or Erith Town.
League One side Ipswich Town confirmed they have banned a supporter indefinitely from Portman Road having recently racially abused one of their players online.
The Middlesex Senior Cup is also at the second-round stage, with only a few first round fixtures remaining. Spelthorne Sports host Harefield United, Hendon FC play Hanwell Town, Hampton and Richmond Borough are at home to Harrow Borough and Enfield Town entertain Bedfont Sports.
The message was posted on social media in the aftermath of the sides’ 2-2 draw away at Cambridge United last Saturday, despite having been 2-0 up after 35 minutes. The post was subsequently deleted, although the Suffolk-based side have identified the poster of the “racial slur” and have reported that they have informed the relevant authorities, including the police.
Ashford Town are at home to Hanworth Villa and Wingate and Finchley, Broadfields United go to St. Panteleimon or Brentford B, and Wembley FC will be away at the winner of the first-round tie between Northwood and Uxbridge. Meanwhile, the second round sees Barnet FC travel to Hayes and Yeading United, which has been scheduled for 9th November.
A separate incident in the fixture involved a sticker with homophobic messages on being stuck to a lamp post is also being investigated by the Club.

MATCH Report
MATCH Report The game’s opener came just minutes later when Will Evans rose highest from a corner and headed towards goal.
THE BEES WERE KNOCKED OUT OF THE EMIRATES FA CUP AFTER A 1-0 DEFEAT TO BOREHAM WOOD AT THE HIVE LONDON. After an intense start to proceedings, the visitors looked to open the scoring with a long-range strike from Tyrone Marsh which sailed over the crossbar. After a sustained spell of possession for Dean Brennan’s side, the Wood broke away on the counter-attack but was stopped by more reluctant defending which proved to be a common theme during the game. A few moments later, Flanagan got an opportunity to send an inviting ball into the box to the head of Mason Bloomfield, but the substitute’s header didn’t trouble the Boreham Wood’ ‘keeper. The Bees really started to grow into the game and went close through Ephron Mason-Clark when he picked the ball up from 25-yards out, and launched a vicious strike onto the Boreham Wood net to force Nathan Ashmore into a save. Shortly after, another chance came the home side’s way. Oxborough set away Mason-Clark, who plucked the ball out of the air and followed that with a tricky piece of skill to spin his defender, but his shot was deflected away for a corner. Just before half-time, the best chance of the first-half came the Bees’ way. A great show of skill by Rob Hall resulted in a driven cross into the box. Brundle got on the end of it, but his goal-bound shot was blocked to prevent the Bees from going into the break with a lead. The Wood’s first chance of the second period came after a cross from Kane Smith was headed away to Jacob Mendy Mendy, who struck over. Luke Garrard’s side almost broke the deadlock soon after when a neat passage of play resulted in Scott Boden’s header being saved from close-range.
His initial shot was saved onto the post, but deflected off Oxborough and into the net. Evans had a chance to bag his second goal moments later but his header from a free-kick went straight into the hands of Oxborough. The Bees’ stopper was called into action once again when a ball was played over the top of the defence but Oxborough’s positioning allowed him to beat Marsh to the ball and stop a potential second. Just 10 minutes from the end, a clear-cut opportunity came the Bees’ way when Jordan Thomas took the ball down the right and managed to get a low cross into Adam Marriott. The 30-year-old shot wide first time from close-range and watched his effort fizz past the wrong side of the post, leaving the visitors to progress in the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round.

BEN Tomlinson Ben Tomlinson was born in Dinnington, South Yorkshire and came through the youth setup at Nottinghamshirebased club Worksop Town, before going onto play for the first team after impressing in the academy. Tomlinson, after three good years at Worksop Town, caught the eye of League Two side Macclesfield Town and signed on 29th June 2011 for an undisclosed five figure sum. It was a risky yet a bold move. He made his professional debut on 6th August 2011, in an opening day defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge at Moss Rose. Tomlinson scored his first league goals after securing a brace away at Hereford, after coming on as a substitute. On 13th September, he scored one of the fastest goals in Football League history when he netted in just 6.4 seconds straight from kick-off against then League Two leaders, Morecambe FC. In the Summer of 2012 Macclesfield Town decided to let go of Tomlinson and let him search for a new club. On 8th August 2012, Tomlinson joined National League side Alfreton Town on a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee. After less than a year with the Reds he joined fellow National League side Lincoln City on a twoyear contract for an undisclosed four-figure fee. The forward spent two years at Lincoln and joined Barnet FC in May 2015, on a two-year deal. He didn’t manage to secure himself a permanent place in the starting line-up for the Bees but became an influential figure coming off the bench. On 17th September 2015, Tomlinson joined National League side Grimsby Town on a one-month loan. After seven appearances, he returned to The Hive London and then joined Tranmere Rovers on-loan in October 2015. Tomlinson left Barnet FC by mutual consent in January 2017, having made only 12 appearances in one-and-ahalf seasons at the Club. After struggling in his trials at Carlisle United, he then signed for F.C. Halifax Town on a one-year deal in July 2017 where he enjoyed an impressive season which led to him signing a new one-year contract with the Shaymen. He went onto play 56 games in all competitions for the Yorkshire-side, scoring four goals. In October 2020 after not getting a look in in the Alfreton front line, Tomlinson joined Frickley Athletic on-loan to cover for injuries to their forwards. Finally, after he completed his loan spell, Tomlinson re-joined Worksop Town nine years after his departure, in November 2020.
