Dean, first of all, how have the players recovered after a tough test on Tuesday? “I am delighted that we came back with the three points and a positive performance. “We have had light training sessions on Thursday and Friday after having Wednesday off. “It is important that we allow the players to sleep because it helps with the recovery. “We are really looking forward to Saturday’s match.” How have the players been in training as I can imagine there is excitement around the camp following a hard-fought win in midweek? “There is always a buzz around the place and we have tried our best to create that over the last few weeks. “We always look to have fun in training and we have been playing some small-sided games of football this week. “We are looking to take this positivity into the match.” I am sure you will be looking to see the same grit and determination from our players this weekend as they showed at Edgeley Park? “Our players are a good group of lads who are very honest. I thought they expressed themselves really well on Tuesday night.

“We have drawn a line underneath that now though. “Even though Aldershot Town were beaten by Weymouth FC, they are certainly going to come at us and pose a threat on Saturday. “Mark Molesley is a top manager and I know that they have just recruited a new goalkeeper that I used to work with. “It is going to be a difficult game and we have got to have the same mentality and same attitude as we had on Tuesday night.” With the match being shown live on BT Sport, it provides a great opportunity to show what we can do in front of the cameras and everyone watching at home. “Yes, it is a good platform to do that and everyone gets excited when it comes to TV games. “It is great that BT are supporting the Vanarama National League and we are all looking forward to the occasion.” What’s the latest on Joe Widdowson’s injury? “I just want to go back to Tuesday night because I thought that Gary Anderson and Daniel Cluett were both outstanding in dealing with the really tough circumstances. “I want to thank them and the Stockport medical team on behalf of the players and I

How can our fans play a part in what happens out on the pitch? “It is a great initiative to all of our supporters and we need to keep giving them something to sing about. “The support at Stockport on Tuesday was magnificent and we are hoping to send them home happy against Aldershot.”

BARNET OVER 50’S ON THE PITCH CHELSEA FC FOUNDATION VISITED THE HIVE LONDON TO FACE TWO OF OUR WALKING FOOTBALL TEAMS. The Black & Amber won 1-0 and drew 1-1 in the first two matches whilst Barnet FC Blues also enjoyed two competitive matches as they won 1-0 and lost 0-1. We were pleased with these excellent results against a very well organised team. We also realised that our player Dave Marett is a lifelong Blues fan so Mark Blythe of the CFC Foundation gave him a Chelsea FC history book before joining us all for drinks prior to watching the Barnet FC vs Wrexham AFC match. Our Black & Amber team have now beaten Spurs, West Ham and Chelsea at The Hive London in recent weeks, scoring 11 and conceding only one goal! Off the pitch, one of our players Stephen Brown made an amazing and deeply moving gesture as he donated a defibrillator to our group in memory of his friend Michael Glynn. This has been added to the two new first aid kits that were donated by Brian Leapman. As always, our safety is always a top priority at the Barnet Walking Football Team and we will look to continue that through 2022. If you would like to join our group, everyone’s welcome! Wes, after looking back at Tuesday’s win, how big of a result do you feel it was given the togetherness and character shown through difficult conditions? “I felt that Tuesday was massive for us because it is a tough place to go. Stockport County are a big side in the league. “The boys showed a lot of togetherness and resilience to get through the match, especially towards the end when they were piling on a lot of pressure.

Looking ahead to Aldershot Town, the game is being shown live on BT Sport. What sort of an opportunity does a game like that present? “These opportunities do not come that often, so when you play in a televised game, you have to make the most of it. “We secured a win on Tuesday so we will be backing ourselves to do it again. We believe that if we show what we can do, we can get the job done.

“We stayed focused and managed to get the win which we were pleased by.”

“There is more excitement than nerves in the dressing room playing in a televised game.

How are you feeling it on a personal level having been out injured for a long time and now coming back to play in a few games?

“We do it every day in training, we have a game plan and we believe that we can come out of the game with something.”

“I am just so happy to be back.

What are you expecting from the Shots on Saturday?

“It has been a long ten months, and I feel so glad to be playing the game that I love.

“We have done some work on them and know what they are about.

“Playing every game has made me happy, even if I am just coming off the bench and getting minutes.

“It is about stopping what they are a good at and expressing ourselves on the pitch.”

“I was happy to get a start on Tuesday and be able to get out on the pitch.”

Momentum is often talked about in football, and we have a chance here of creating a new unbeaten run?

You have been a regular in the team of late which must be particularly pleasing given the recruitments made in the midfield recently?

“We have to take parts of Tuesday into Saturday. Every game is different, but it is key that you bring forward the positives and carry them into the next game.”

“We have a very big squad that has a lot of quality. “Competition for places is always tough. You know you must play well to keep someone else out of the team and maintain your place. “Someone else will be knocking on the door, and everyone believes that they should be playing. “It can be tough, but the competition is healthy.”

Our supporters were fantastic at Stockport County in the week and I am sure they will be there in their numbers on Saturday. How important are they to the team? “The fans are very important because we need them as our twelfth man. We all hope that we can give them a good performance on Saturday.”

BARNET FC Supporters association Hello fellow Bees fans, my name is Mark Whitelegg. A few months ago, I got together with six other fans to form the new Supporters Association and I have the honour of being its Chairperson! My relationship with Barnet FC goes back to September 1982. Two school-friends of mine must take the credit or blame (depending on how you see it) of what has followed. Those two friends being Mark Lee and Paul ‘Lonsdale’ Whiskin (sadly no longer with us) will be familiar to some of you. The match was a Steve Brinkman testimonial against Spurs’ FA Cup winning side of the year before that featured legends such as Villa, Ardiles and Perryman. We won the match 2-1 and I was hooked! From Frickley to Manchester United, carrying Nicky Evans on our shoulders at Trowbridge, promotion at Fisher, playing for the ADB against the Rainbow boys on the hallowed pitch at Underhill and winning 4-3 after being 3-0 down at half-time are just a few of the memories of those 40 years. For most of that time I’ve also had my amazing wife with me with our first ‘date’ being a football match, though not a Barnet FC one. Our second date was at a Bees game though! So why did I volunteer for this role? Like my six colleagues, we could see that the supporters urgently needed a voice and the Club needed us too. We’re too small a Club for the supporters and the Club not to be working together. We’re never going to agree on everything and some things are more difficult to change than others, but we’re sure that there are many things we can agree on which will improve the matchday experience for supporters. We’ve already had positive, open and constructive talks with the Club and already made progress in a number of areas such as the Legends Bar closing time and blocking season ticket seats for cup games. More information will be released soon to

our Supporters Club Members and we’re confident that more progress will be made soon. We know that matchday experience hasn’t been ideal recently, but please also remember that the staff at The Hive London have been going through a tough time during Coronavirus pandemic. If things go wrong please let us and the Club know - don’t take it out on the staff. We all want to make sure that The Hive London is a welcoming, friendly environment which people want to come back to. Formation and the Isthmian League Years On March 25th 1992, Aldershot FC became the first Football League team to fold during the season since Accrington Stanley in 1962. From the ashes came phoenix club Aldershot Town, who were formed on April 22nd 1992 and managed by ex-Aldershot FC centre back Steve Wignall. The “new” Shots began life in Isthmian League Division 3 and opened the 1992-93 season in a carnival atmosphere at the Recreation Ground against Clapton. Braces from Mark Butler and Steve Stairs secured a 4-2 win in front of 1493 fans, which was more than watched their predecessors’ last home game at the same ground. Aldershot Town won their first 10 games and didn’t suffer their first (and only) defeat of the season until losing a league game at Clapton on January 2nd (at Clapton) in what was their 24th outing in all competitions. By then, they had broken attendance records at most grounds at which they had played, buoyed by a superb away following of around 1000. The campaign finished with the Shots as champions by a commanding 18-point margin, whilst strikers Mark Butler and Steve Stairs scored a combined total of 62 goals in all competitions. A second successive promotion (via a third-place finish) followed in 1993-94 together with a run to the FA Vase quarter-finals. From the start of their inaugural season, Aldershot Town went 20 months (35 games) before suffering their first-ever home league defeat – to Banstead Athletic in April 1994.

Steve Wignall departed in January 1994 to take charge of Division 3 side Colchester United and was replaced by ex-Nottingham Forest winger Steve Wigley. Despite a strong finish to the 1994-95 season, the Shots missed out on a third successive promotion on goal difference. Following fifth- and seventh-place finishes over the next two seasons, Wigley left to take up a post in (former club) Forest’s youth set up in the summer of 1997. Following a spell under the caretaker management trio of Andy Meyer, Mark Butler and Joe Roach, Enfield boss George Borg was appointed in September 1997 and his first season yielded increased crowds and the Isthmian League Division 1 title. In 1998-99, striker Gary Abbott scored 48 goals in all competitions as the Shots won both the Isthmian League Cup and the Hampshire Senior Cup. In 1999-2000, they retained the latter trophy, won the Isthmian League Charity Shield and ended the campaign as runners-up (to Dagenham and Redbridge) in the Isthmian League Premier Division. A fourth-place finish was claimed in 2000-01, whilst November 2001 saw a club record crowd of 7500 fill the Rec for the 6-2 defeat by Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup first round. Following a run of poor results and pressure from fans, Borg resigned in mid-January 2002. Borg’s assistant Stuart Cash took temporary charge before Terry Brown left his post at Hayes in late March to come to North East Hampshire, thus beginning a five-year love affair with the Shots fans. Following a third-place finish and a third Hampshire Senior Cup win in 2001-02, the squad was overhauled and, having attained top spot in mid-November 2002 (ironically by way of victory over Brown’s former

club Hayes), the Shots remained in top spot to claim the title and, with it, promotion to the Football Conference; they also retained the Hampshire Senior Cup with a victory over Bashley.

The Conference Years Following a home victory over Accrington Stanley, Aldershot Town remained in the play-off positions for the entire 2003-04 season as well as winning the Isthmian League Charity Shield (for a second time) and reaching the FA Trophy semi-finals, where they lost to eventual winners Hednesford Town. Further disappointment followed, when the Shots were beaten on penalties by Shrewsbury Town (after a 1-1 draw) in the play-off final at Stoke City’s Britannia Stadium. That summer, one era ended as another began: record appearancemaker Jason Chewins left the club having worn the red and blue of Aldershot on 489 occasions. Meanwhile, the club went full-time. More play-off heartache was experienced in 2004-05, this time in the shape of a shoot-out defeat at Carlisle United in the semi-finals. The next two seasons were disappointing for the Shots (13th and ninth places respectively being secured), whilst the only silverware came by way of a fifth County Cup in 2006-07. In March 2007, Terry Brown resigned to take care of his wife, who had been ill for some time. Assistant Manager Martin Kuhl took caretaker charge for the remainder of the season.

Promotion to the Football League Gary Waddock was appointed as Aldershot Town manager in May 2007, whilst Martin Kuhl stayed on as his assistant. The Shots played an attacking brand of football, especially at home, where they lost just three times and, having won the Conference Premier title by drawing 1-1 on an emotional night in Exeter, they finished the 200708 season with an 18-match unbeaten run and two divisional records: 31 wins and 101 points. A “double” was achieved as a 3-3 extra time draw against Rushden and Diamonds at the Recreation Ground was followed by a win in the shoot-out to claim the Setanta Shield. Sixteen years after the quest had begun, the town of Aldershot had a Football League side to cheer again. A club record £130,000 was received from Crewe Alexandra for winger Joel Grant in the summer of 2008.

The Football League Years Scott Donnelly (the Shots’ scorer “that night” at Exeter) scored the only goal of the club’s first-ever Football League game, a 1-0 win at Accrington, and the club finished a respectable thirteenth in League 2 in 2008-09. In mid-October 2009, Waddock and Kuhl left the (now named) EBB Stadium to join Wycombe Wanderers. Jason Dodd and Paul Williams took caretaker charge before ex-Reading assistant manager Kevin Dillon was appointed as boss. An unexpected sixth-place finish was attained in 2009-10, but a 3-0 aggregate defeat to Rotherham United haled the Shots at the semi-final stage.

With the 2010-11 season having yielded several poor performances, including a toothless 2-0 loss at Conference South outfit Dover Athletic in the FA Cup second round, Kevin (and assistant Gary Owers) were dismissed in early January having attained just a dozen wins from 39 games in all competitions. When Kevin departed the EBB Stadium, Aldershot were in 20th place in League 2 and just six points above the drop zone. The next occupant of the Shots hot seat was Dean Holdsworth, who resigned from his post at Newport County to come to Aldershot, eventually guiding the club to a mid-table finish that season. Aldershot Town gained nationwide attention in 2011-12, when FA Premier League giants Manchester United visited the EBB Stadium for a League Cup fourth round tie; 7044 fans saw the Red Devils win 3-0 in front of the Sky Sports cameras. The Shots had a good endof-season run-in and eventually finished just six points outside the play-offs in 11th. Unfortunately, despite paying a club record fee to Stevenage for striker Craig Reid, neither the home form nor the style of play from the previous season was evident very much in 2012-13 and Holdsworth was sacked in mid-February with the team in 20th spot. Former Rotherham United boss Andy Scott was brought in, but couldn’t stem the tide and relegation back to the Conference Premier (the club’s first such event) was confirmed at end of the season as the Shots eventually finished rock-bottom of the table.

Administration and Return to the Conference Premier On May 2nd 2013, just five days after their relegation from League 2, Aldershot Town officially entered administration with reported debts of £1.4 million. Following a period of uncertainty over the club’s survival, which led to the departure of the majority of the playing staff and numerous redundancies behind-the-scenes, the club exited administration under the auspices of a CVA on July 30th, with a consortium led by former chairman Shahid Azeem taking ownership of the club on August 1st. The Shots began the 2013-14 season with a 10-point deduction as a punishment for the aforementioned entry into administration. With a hastily-assembled squad (some of whom were signed in the hotel the night before the season’s opener at Grimsby Town) that hadn’t trained together, even the most ardent Shots fan wasn’t expecting the draw and three wins in the opening seven games that saw the deficit wiped out by the first week of September. However, within two months of that achievement, Andy Scott’s men were knocked out the FA Cup by Gloucestershire side Shortwood United, who were three divisions and 65 places below them in the football pyramid; what made the 2-1 replay defeat (following a 1-1 draw) more embarrassing was that it occurred in North East Hampshire! An eight-game winless run across January, February and March saw the Shots eliminated at the quarter-finals stage of the FA Trophy (by Havant and Waterlooville) and plunged into a relegation fight. However, Brett Williams’ 24 x league goals coupled with the return of Brentford loanee midfielder Manny Oyeleke and the arrival of centre

half Mark Phillips (on loan from Southend United) resulted in the club’s Conference Premier place being retained. The team attained four wins out of seven at the end of the season, with safety being assured by a 2-1 win on Easter Monday at local rivals Woking in the penultimate game – Mission Accomplished!

Exiting CVA and Starting From Zero in 2014-15 On July 31st 2014, Aldershot Town announced that they had paid off all of their debts, which enables them to exit the auspices of the CVA after just 12 months – a massive two years ahead of the required date! The icing on the cake came with the additional news that the club had made “a modest profit” in the first year of trading under the new owners. Even though the fans’ expectation levels were low, the 2014-15 campaign still yielded very little joy. The only real highlight was the 1-0 victory over League 2 side Portsmouth at home in an FA Cup first round replay following a well-deserved 2-2 draw at Fratton Park. Another strong home display saw a goalless draw claimed against League 1 Rochdale in round 2, although many criticised the fact that the Shots’ dominance didn’t materialise into a victory. A season-defining four days was endured in mid-December – they were surprisingly dumped out of the FA Trophy at home in a first round tie by Isthmian League Division 1 South side Burgess Hill Town (who were 55 places below the Shots in the football pyramid) before being brushed aside by Rochdale in their FA Cup second round replay (4-1). Following constant criticism of his playing style, a run of just one win in 12 games in all competitions (including five successive home league defeats and just two wins in 11 league games that had seen the Shots drop to 18th in the table) led to Andy Scott being sacked in mid-January 2015. Defender Chris Barker took picked up the reins for the season’s remaining 15 games on a player-caretaker basis and led the Shots to Conference safety before stepping aside in the summer to become player-assistant to newly-appointed ex-Dundee boss Barry Smith.

2015-16 onwards The 2015-16 season was another one of disappointing performances, epitomised by a club record 8-2 defeat by Chester in early March. The Shots finished the campaign having scored just 23 home league goals, equalled the club record for fewest home league wins (7)

and most home league losses (12) as well as setting new club records for most league losses in a season (22) and lowest average home league attendance (1607); the season was also the fourth in succession in which the aforementioned crowd figure had dropped. Conversely, the nine away league victories was the club’s best tally since they won the Conference Premier in 2007-08. Another lasting memory will be the dearth of attempts on goal that the Shots had over the course of the season. With boss Barry Smith having decided to return to his native Scotland, May 2016 saw Gary Waddock become the first-ever Shots boss to return, which ultimately led to the Shots starting a campaign with a higher level of hope than had been seen for many a season. That optimism proved well-founded, as Waddock’s new-look side lost just three of their first 16 National League games and, after a sticky period in October and November saw them win just twice in ten games, then embarked upon a superb run from the start of December. The Shots lost just two games in the second-half of the season to secure fifth place in the table and a Play-Off semi-final against Tranmere Rovers. Unfortunately, The Shots lost the home leg 3-0 but at least restored a great deal of pride with a battling 2-2 draw in the Prenton Park return. Having retained the vast majority of his squad, Waddock entered 2017-18 with optimism. The squad picked up where they left off and spent the majority of the season challenging for the title. They lost 2-1 at home to eventual champions Macclesfield Town in February where a win would’ve put the Shots top of the league. Form dipped afterwards but the Shots still managed to finish 5th in the table and faced Ebbsfleet United in the new play-off eliminator format, with penalties and play-offs again proving to be the Shots ‘Achilles heel’, a fiercely contested 1-1 draw was played out at the EBB Stadium with former-Shots player Dave Winfield equalising in the final minute of extra time for Ebbsfleet, the Shots had two chances two win on penalties but failed to convert either and the Fleet progressed through. With key players from the play-off squad departing in the summer and replaced with a young squad, the Shots struggled to reach the heights of the previous two seasons, that, coupled with an injury crisis mid-season that saw a youth team sent to an FA Trophy game against Bedford Town culminated in the Shots relegation from the National League and Gary Waddock departing the club by mutual consent once the season had finished. The Shots enter the 2019/20 season in a new league, with a completely new squad and a new manager…

MARK MOLESLEY Mark Molesley rejoins the club in a managerial role, having previously become something of a cult hero for The Shots during his playing days, scoring important goals against local rivals Woking FC back in 2014 and the infamous goals that earned Aldershot Town an FA Cup replay back in the same year, before scoring the winner in the replay at The EBB Stadium just 10 days later. After beginning his managerial career with stints within Bournemouth’s youth systems, Molesley enjoyed great success in charge of now-Vanarama National League side Weymouth FC. In his first season at the helm,

he guided them to the Southern League title, with the side amassing 86 points. Molesley’s impressive record with The Terras continued, as he guided Weymouth to back-to-back promotions after reaching the Vanarama National League for the first time since the 2008-2009 season, with a 3-0 penalty shootout victory over Dartford FC. The former Shots midfielder’s managerial performances earned him a job in the League with Southend United but now returns to Aldershot Town to take over as First-Team Manager.

Mitch WALKER WALKER BECAME SHOTS BOSS DANNY SEARLE’S FOURTH SIGNING OF THE SUMMER When joined from Dover Athletic in June 2019. He spent seven years with the Whites, amassing a total of 279 appearances and helped guide the Kent side to promotion from the National League South. He started his career at Brighton & Hove Albion, making one solitary first team appearance, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 League One victory over Yeovil Town in 2010, he also spent time out on loan at Eastbourne Borough and Welling United whilst at the Seagulls before joining Dover in 2012.

Kevin LOKKO LOKKO, WHO IS A CENTRAL DEFENDER BY TRADE He is a product of the academy system at Norwich City and was part of the FA Youth Cup winning team during the 2012–13 season. Since then, the 25 year-old has had spells with a number of National League clubs including: Welling United, Maidstone United, Dagenham & Redbridge (loan) and Dover Athletic (loan before made permanent). The central defender joins the Shots with plenty of experience in the National League too, playing over 180 games in the division with an impressive return of 17 goals during this time as well. Lokko has also had spells in the Football League with both Stevenage and Colchester United during his career, before most recently moving to his most recent former club Harrogate Town. This was after a successful spell with Dover Athletic in the National League which also saw the defender captain of the Whites and earn him an England ‘C’ cap, which saw him play against Panjab FA at Damson Park in May 2017.

Jose FAWOLE FAWOLE, WHO IS A FORWARD BY TRADE He will be looking to gain some valuable experience by taking the temporary move to local side Farnborough FC, starting with their next game of the Southern League Premier South season against Wimborne Town away. The 23 year-old joins the Shots having previously played for US College side Loyola University Maryland between 2016 and 2019, during which time he made 68 appearances and scored 20 goals and 10 assists. While playing at college, Fawole also appeared in the USL PDL with Baltimore Bohemians in 2016, NPSL side FC Baltimore in 2018, and the-now rebranded USL League Two in 2019 with The Villages SC. On January 9, 2020, Fawole was selected 42nd overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft by MLS side D.C. United. Following this, the forward later signed with D.C. United’s USL Championship affiliate, Loudoun United, making his professional debut on March 7, 2020, appearing as a 57th-minute substitute in a 0–0 draw with Philadelphia Union II. Shots fans will recognise Fawole better from his performance against last season’s Vanarama National League champions Sutton United, where he was better known as ‘Trialist D’ and was heavily involved in the winning goal of the game. During his 20-minute cameo, he impressed with his trickery and skill that ultimately won Aldershot Town the penalty which Alfy Whittingham scored and gave the Shots the 2-1 victory on the day back in July.

CORIE ANDREWS ANDREWS, WHO IS A FORWARD BY TRADE He is a product of the academy system at Premier League side Crystal Palace, spending 10 years there and earning the Academy Player of the Year in 2014, before being rewarded with a professional contract at the age of 17. Since then, the 23 year-old has had spells in non-league with a number of clubs including: Margate, Whyteleafe and most recently Kingstonian before moving to League One side AFC Wimbledon. The forward joins The Shots (initially on loan until January 2022) off the back of a campaign where he played a part in AFC Wimbledon’s survival in the third division of English football, (alongside former Aldershot Town player Ethan Chislett), as Andrews looks to reignite his non-league scoring form with us here at The EBB Stadium.

DOVER ATHLETIC AWAY POSTCARD

I had an early start for Dover because I went to the game on the minibus with a few other Barnet FC fans. We met in Barnet for a 9:00 departure and headed to Deal for our pre-match stop, arriving around 11:00. You wouldn’t have known it was October as the sun was out and it looked like a nice day by the sea. A group of us went on a little pub tour of Deal and discovered new places whilst catching up with one another. After a lovely morning, we set off to Dover just after 13:30 which gave us time to have another drink outside the stadium before we went in. We had brought another decent away following and we were ready for kick-off. Once again, we started the game very well and took the lead after 10 minutes in when Bloomfield scored a header from close-range. We continued to play well in the first half, but Dover also settled into the game and had their fair share of chances, which Aston Oxborough dealt with well on his debut. We went into half-time with the advantage and as the teams came back out for the second half, we hoped we would retain it. On 59 minutes, Powell made sure this was the case as he put us two ahead with a calm finish after some nice play from Bloomfield. However, just five minutes later, Dover got themselves back into the game when they scored from the edge of the box. We battled through the rest of the game and Oxborough dealt well their pressure well, leaving the Bees to see out a 2-1 victory. We applauded the players off the pitch and everyone was delighted to have come away with an important three points. We left the Crabble Stadium and got on the minibus for the journey back to Barnet, arriving back in North London at around 19:00. As the night was still young, a few of us decided to stick about in Barnet to watch the England game and have some more drinks in the pub. After a nice evening, I was back home just before midnight and ready for bed! I had a lovely day out with everyone and coming home with three points topped off the day nicely!

Aldershot Town Barnet FC’s recent record against Aldershot Town has been very good with only one defeat in the most recent eight games between the sides. The Bees have recorded four straight wins at home. Barnet have played the Shots on 24 occasions, 12 at home and 12 away. In total, 14 games have been in the Vanarama National League, including in each of the past three seasons and 10 in the Football League. There have been no cup games. Of the 12 home games, five have been at The Hive London, all in the Vanarama National League. In total, the Bees have won 10, Aldershot nine and there have been five draws. The full record at home has seen Barnet come out on top on eight occasions and Aldershot four times. There has yet to be a draw at home. In those home games, the Bees have hit the net 19 times while the Shots have scored 13. Looking at all the games (home and away), Giuliano Grazioli, Ephron Mason-Clark and John Akinde have all scored three times. John Akinde’s three goals were a hat-trick on Boxing Day in 2014. Danny Hylton has scored four times for Aldershot. Ismail Yakubu has made most appearances (seven) for the Bees against Aldershot.

Several players have represented both sides. Mo Bettamer moved from Barnet FC to Aldershot Town in October 2019 and has played for the Shots three times against the Bees, scoring once in February 2021. Similarly, Anthony Charles moved from the Bees to the Shots, playing five times for Aldershot against Barnet and scoring once. Louie Soares also joined the Shots from Barnet and played four times against his former Club but without scoring (though he did later score for Southend United against the Bees). None of the three played for the Bees against the Shots. Cheye Alexander and Callum Reynolds were both signed by John Still from Aldershot Town in the summer of 2018. Cheye played for the Bees four times against his former Club, including on his debut, while Callum played three times, all in 2019. Neither played for the Shots against Barnet. Former Bees boss Simon Bassey, played for Aldershot Town between 1999 and 2002. In addition, Gary Waddock managed Aldershot Town to the Vanarama National League title and promotion to the Football League in 2008. He also coached for a short time at The Hive London in 2014 under Martin Allen.

The highest attendance in a Barnet home game against the Shots was 2,839 at Underhill in 2005 (the best at The Hive London was 2,088 on New Year’s Day 2015). The largest number of Shots’ fans at Barnet was 728 in 2008. Barnet have also played the predecessor club, Aldershot, just once, in 1991/92, the final season of the original Club’s existence. That game was in the Football League Associate Members’ Cup (now the Football League Trophy). Aldershot Town began life in the 1992/93 season. Last season, the Bees lost 2-1 at the EBB Stadium at the Recreation Ground but, in the return, Barnet FC chalked up a 3-1 win, with the Bees’ goals coming from Ephron MasonClark, JJ Hooper and Tomi Adeloye. The Shots’ goal was scored by Harry Panayiotou. Barnet FC comprehensively defeated Aldershot Town 3-0 in a League Two fixture 6th February 2010. The Bees’ opener came from Micah Hyde before John O’Flynn scored a brace. Ian Hendon’s side came into the game off the back of a poor run (no wins in 13 league games), in contrast to Aldershot who had only lost twice in their previous 12 league games. The Shots had also beaten the Bees 4-0 on their own patch just six weeks prior. There were few chances in the first-half, but Albert Adomah had one good effort, picking up a long ball forward on the right flank and turning his full-back inside out, before cutting inside and firing just over the left-hand corner of the goal. It was Aldershot who had the best chances before the break - ex-Bee Louie Soares fired wide while Marvin Morgan headed over. The second-half proved to be more productive for the Bees, although it was Morgan who had the first chance, being denied by Barnet ‘keeper Jake Cole. On 55 minutes, Adomah received the ball just inside his own half and once again drove at the full-back Andy Sandell down the slope, almost reaching the byline. The winger put in a lofted cross to the near post where Micah Hyde was waiting to nod home. It was the former Watford man’s first league goal since scoring for Championship Burnley nearly five years earlier. It was also his only goal for Barnet in his one season with the Club and his last ever in the Football League.

Aldershot defender who dithered in possession. The ball ran kindly for O’Flynn, who was on the edge of the box, ahead of his marker and just onside. He managed to poke the ball home past Bristol City loanee Stephen Henderson in the Shots’ goal. O’Flynn’s second and Barnet’s third goal came in the 85th minute. A cross from substitute David Livermore from the left wing to the far post saw O’Flynn loop a header over the goalie and into the net, despite the attention of two defenders.

ON THIS day 3 years ago (2018): In their only ever home game against Salford City, Barnet FC lost 3-1 in a Vanarama National League encounter. Wes Fonguck scored what remains the Bees’ only goal against the Ammies in front of 1,243 spectators. At the end of the season, Salford were promoted through the play-offs, while Barnet finished 12th.

11 years ago (2010): Barnet lost 2-1 away to Shrewsbury Town in League Two. Jordan Parkes scored for the Bees, his only goal for the Club. The attendance was 5,331 and the Shrews made the play-offs that season, but were not promoted.

17 years ago (2004): The Bees beat Farnborough Town 2-1 in the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Cup at Underhill. Ismail Yakubu scored for the second game running, on this occasion in injury time, and Ritchie Graham got the first. The crowd was 1,822.

20 years ago (2001): A game in the Second Round of the Football League Trophy ended in a victory for the Bees away at Northampton Town. The attendance was 2,143 and Lee Flynn scored the only goal. Barnet had already beaten AFC Bournemouth in the competition and went on to defeat Reading FC before exiting against Cambridge United.

39 years ago (1982): Old rivals Enfield beat the Bees 3-1 at Underhill in a Vanarama National League game. Eddie Stein scored the goal and there were 1,702 fans present. Enfield finished the season as champions by a point, but were not promoted to the Football League, as automatic promotion was not introduced until 1987.

45 years ago (1976): Barnet beat Hampton 5-2 in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy. Gary Williams and Dennis Brown both scored twice and John Fairbrother grabbed the other. A meagre crowd of 347 witnessed the win. Dennis Brown was

67 years ago (1954): The Bees drew 3-3 with Southall in an Athenian League game. Two of the Barnet goals came from Dennis D’Arcy and his younger brother Alf scored the other. Both were amateur internationals.

CURRENTLY Barnet FC come into today’s game having won three, drawn two and lost one of the latest six league games. The Shots most recent six games have seen them pick up one win and one draw whilst losing on four occasions. Mitch Brundle has still started every competitive game for the Bees this season and has played every minute. Mason Bloomfield and Ephron Mason-Clark have played a part in every game. Kian Flanagan, Ben Richards-Everton, Harry Taylor and Jordan Thomas have played a part in all the games, bar one. More players have scored for the Bees this season than for most clubs in the Vanarama National League. After Reiss Greenidge’s first goal for the club at Stockport County on Tuesday evening, Barnet’s competitive goals have been scored by nine different players. Only three teams have seen goals being scored by more players in league games: Grimsby Town (12 players), Altrincham (11) and Dagenham and Redbridge (10). Eight different players have scored for today’s opponents Aldershot in the league this season. Only four players have scored for Southend United and just two for Dover Athletic.

WHAT’S THE Buzz Southend United have said that they are hoping that former player Stan Collymore will remain at the Club longer. The former England international, who also played for the likes of Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Aston Villa, has been working for the Club free of charge for the past few weeks in aid of trying to help their fortunes. This comes after the Shrimpers recently sacked manager Phil Brown. Part of his roles at the Club was being a member of a four person interview panel who appointed Kevin Maher and former Bee Darren Currie as manager and coach respectively. Canadian international Charlie Trafford has signed for Wrexham AFC this following a successful trial spell at the Club. Trafford, who signed on a short-term deal, was available as a free agent, having been released by Hamilton Academical in May. This came following their relegation from the Scottish Premiership last season. The 29-year-old midfielder has three made three appearances for Canada to date and has featured in five countries at club level: Canada, with York Lions and SC Toronto, Finland with IFK Mariehamn, TPS, KuPS and RoPS, Poland with Korona Kielce and Sandecja Nowy Sacz then Scotland, with Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Hamilton, and now Wales.

With the FA Vase First Round having taken place last weekend, the draw for the Second Round has now been made. In the regionalised draw, some of our local sides in action include Hadley away at Baldock Town, Cockfosters who are at home to Tring Athletic, New Salami hosting Ipswich Wanderers, and London Lions who travel to Mulbarton Wanderers. Also in the draw is Southall at home to Chatham Town, Athletic Newham at home to Pagham, Harefield United who host Berks County, and North Greenford United, who travel to Wallingford Town. The ties are set to be played on 20th November 2021. The most ironic pairing in the round is Crawley Down Gatwick, who play a short distance from the airport named after the town, hosting British Airways FC.

THE BEES FELL TO DEFEAT AT THE HIVE LONDON – LOSING 3-0 TO WREXHAM AFC IN THE VANARAMA NATIONAL LEAGUE. After an intense first few minutes that included a few ferocious tackles from both sides, the Bees had the first chance of the game. A lofted free-kick from Josh Payne fell to Mitch Brundle but his volley went over the bar and wide. Shortly after, Bryce Hosannah, of Wrexham, weaved through the Bees’ defence and laid the ball off to Jordan Davies but he could only strike low and wide past the right post. Just minutes later the Bees went close through Joe Widdowson. Ephron Mason-Clark was taken down after a mazy run, but Mason Bloomfield picked up the ball and played it out to the Bees’ No. 21 whose cross was beaten away by the Red Dragon’s goalkeeper, Christian Dibble. 22 minutes in, Phil Parkinson’s side broke the deadlock. Paul Mullin caught Harry Taylor in possession just outside his own penalty area before cutting inside and finishing into the bottom left corner. Just five minutes later, the visitors added a second. A long throw-in from near the corner flag by Ben Tozer found its way onto Aaron Hayden’s head. Using the power of the throw, the 24-year-old glanced the ball across goal and into the top left corner. Wrexham went close just before half-time when Davies’ corner connected with Mullin’s head, but his effort hit the post. Aston Oxborough was called into action for the re-bound who got down well to prevent the Red Dragons from adding a third. Towards the start of the second-half, another long throw from Tozer caused problems as it ended up falling to McAlinden on the edge of the box whose dipping shot just missed the bottom corner.

The 30-year-old drove his shot from the penalty spot goalwards, with only a last-minute block from the Wrexham defence preventing Dean Brennan’s side from pulling one back. The visitors scored a third in the 55th minute when Davies crossed into the centre of the box to Shaun Brisley from a corner, who rose highest and headed down into the net from close-range. 68 minutes in, Mullin played a cross-field ball to Dior Angus. Wrexham’s No. 20 beared down on goal as Oxborough came out and claimed the ball from under his feet. Wrexham went close in the 79th minute as Mullin broke away from the Bees defence and after some tricky play whilst under pressure from Thomas, the ball fell to Hosannah six-yards out who blasted his shot high over the bar. Deep into second-half stoppage-time Taylor picked up the ball on the halfway line and burst forwards before letting fly just past the post to leave the Bees empty-handed at The Hive London.
