They’re listed in alphabetical order by subject area and will show you what you need to know, such as career prospects, basic course details, entry requirements, earning potential and next steps after you complete your course.

ACCESS TO HE COURSE

HNC - LEVEL 4 FdA - LEVEL 4 AND 5 UNIVERSITY - YEAR 1

Higher National Diplomas (HND)

Foundation Degrees (FdA)

Access to Higher Education

An HNC typically equates to a Level 4 qualification and is equivalent to the first year of a Bachelor’s degree at university, so makes an ideal progression from Level 3 study. Once successfully completed, you could move into employment or to the next level of study.

Once you have successfully completed a Level 4 qualification – an HNC – a natural progression is an HND. Generally equivalent to the second year of university, they’re also an ideal stepping stone to obtaining a full degree by completing a ‘top-up’ year at university. Alternatively they are excellent stand-alone qualifications that allow entry to employment.

Foundation Degrees are equivalent to the first two years of study for a Bachelor’s degree, which you can choose to ‘top-up’ with a year’s further study at university, allowing you to achieve a full Bachelor’s degree.

Access to Higher Education (or ‘Access’) courses are ideal if you want to go to university but don’t have the right qualifications, or are returning to education after a gap. Access courses develop the academic and vocational skills, confidence and understanding of studying at a higher level that prepare you for degreelevel study.

Save thousands!

Top-up to a degree Supporting you

You could save up to £3,500 per year by beginning your degree at College compared to paying up to £9,500 per year studying for a degree at university.

We maintain strong links with partner universities, giving you the option to top-up to a full Bachelor’s degree with one additional year of study after completing an HND.

HND - LEVEL 5 UNIVERSITY - YEAR 3 UNIVERSITY - YEAR 2

POSTGRADUATE STUDY

You’ll learn in a supportive environment with smaller class sizes and more oneto-one tutor contact. Additionally, you’ll study in our purpose-built Higher Education (HE) centre, complete with lecture theatre, classrooms and social area.

Child & Family Studies FdA This Foundation degree is validated by the University of Bedfordshire.

What do these courses lead to? Once you have successfully completed your FdA, you can then choose to complete a top-up year at a university to achieve a full Bachelor’s degree. You can also pursue an apprenticeship or enter employment.

The course is set within the context of current events, research legislation and policy so you will emerge with relevant skills and experience sought after by employers in this industry. Work experience is also crucial, so you’ll also benefit from our excellent links with local nurseries, playgroups, crèches and schools, as well as a work-based mentor to support you with your studies.

Course code: C000500 Duration: 2 years Campus: New Bedford Road Entry requirements: 32 UCAS points or a Level 3 qualification in a related subject. Other qualifications and experience will be taken into consideration. Adult learners without the relevant qualifications may apply for Accredited Prior Experiential Learning (APEL). Because of the nature of the course you must not have been previously excluded from teaching or working with young people. If you are planning or applying to work with young people under 18 or vulnerable adults you will need to seek enhanced Disclosure and Barring (DBS) clearance. This should be done through your employer but in some cases may be done through the College. You may be required to pay the fee for this.

Didyouknow? We are proud to have an on-site nursery rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, open to students, staff and the public for even more hands-on learning.
