Park District Boundaries When determining the fees for a particular class, you must first determine whether you are “in-district” or “out-of-district.” In-district residents are those who reside within the Barrington Park District boundaries and who pay taxes to the Barrington Park District. All others are out of district. Important: not all Village of Barrington residents are within the Barrington Park District boundaries and therefore require the out-ofdistrict rates. Please see the neighborhood lists to the right and check your tax statement to determine your residency status. For more information on registration, boundaries, policies and more, visit www.barringtonparkdistrict.org.
Class Cancellation Policies A 10% (or a max of $10) administrative fee per program, per participant, will be assessed. Cancellation requests MUST be in writing using the Program Cancellation Request Form. The form must be completely filled out, signed and dated. The request for a cancellation must be received a minimum of five business days prior to the first day of class for a cancellation request to be considered. The Program Cancellation Request Form can be found on our website or at the F&RC Front Desk. Some programs may qualify for a prorated refund, if due to an injury or illness, accompanied by a doctor’s note. Refund amount will be based on the number of classes attended and the date the refund request is received. Medical refunds must be requested by the last class date. You may choose to have the refunded amount credited to your household account to use at a later date, or receive your refund via check. Refund checks are mailed to approximately 2-3 weeks after the cancellation request is approved. All Preschool, K.E.E.P. and Ski Club registration fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. Park District - Preschool
Preschool 2024-2025 School Year About Us For over three decades, the BPD Preschool has been built on the understanding that your child’s happiness and growth are very important. We offer a play-based program with an emphasis on social, emotional, cognitive, physical and language development. Teachers encourage curiosity and strive to develop a love for learning. Each preschool day has a balanced schedule designed to address all developmental domains important to your child’s growth and development. We encourage children to socialize, interact cooperatively and gain independence so they can reach their full potential. With the support of amazing Park District facilities, parks and amenities, there is so much for your child to explore!
Curriculum/Facility The preschool program includes both group and individual activities throughout the day that are play- based. Meaningful play encourages curiosity, discovery and problem solving. In our classrooms, you will find busy, happy children engaged in math, art, science, language, literacy, dramatic play, music and motor activities. Our school uses the Jolly Phonics© program (also used by School District 220) with all classes to help children learn letter sounds. We follow the Illinois Early Learning Standards and the State of Illinois DCFS guidelines. We offer 3 classrooms, a large motor room, gym and a fenced-in playground dedicated to the preschool program. Our rooms remain securely locked during school hours. Each classroom has a bathroom with a child-size toilet and sink.
Staff There are two teachers in each classroom with a maximum of sixteen to twenty children based on the class (less for the Mini’s class). Teachers work as a team. Every preschool teacher is professionally qualified and dedicated to the education and development of each child enrolled in the program. Teachers keep current in teaching methods through training and attendance at educational seminars throughout the year.
Classroom Descriptions Please visit www.barringtoparkdistrict.org/preschool for descriptions of the individual classes listed in the chart on page 17.

Northwest Nature Preschool AGES: 3 - 4 YEARS OLD BY 1/10/24 Education comes alive in the great outdoors! The Northwest Nature Preschool will be located at Citizens Park with daily hikes in the Cuba Marsh Forest Preserve. Facilitated by a certified preschool teacher in partnership with the Barrington Park District, this cooperative preschool provides a developmentally appropriate, Reggio Emilia-inspired early childhood education that promotes respect for people and nature through outdoor learning. The program offers an ALL-OUTDOOR preschool experience that fosters curiosity, compassion, empathy, cultural awareness, creative problem solving and environmental responsibility in young children. Our goal is to instill respect for people, plants, and animals at an early age, setting the foundation for children to become responsible citizens and environmental stewards. As part of our cooperative, parents are welcomed but not obligated to join our parent-teacher advisory committee or volunteer with the class. The preschool is instructed and managed by Oak Leaf Cooperative School. Please note this is an OUTDOOR preschool and parents are responsible for providing all outdoor weather-appropriate clothing. In case of severe weather like dangerously low temperatures or lightning, we will utilize the Lodge at Citizens Park for indoor learning. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Chris Steinmetz’s career in LA took off quickly as he spent his first three sessions working with Paul Simon (Graceland), John Denver, and David Lee Roth. Within a year, Producer Michael Wagener took notice of Steinmetz and hired him to engineer many classic 80s hard rock albums. During his time in LA, Steinmetz also did freelance work for many other bands such as Kiss (with Producer Bob Ezrin) and Alice in Chains as well as many feature films. In 1996, Steinmetz moved back to his native Chicago to be closer to family. He served as Chief Engineer at Chicago Trax before beginning a 10-year run as Senior Music Producer/Engineer at the Chicago Recording Company. Provided with access to Chicago’s growing music scene, Steinmetz’s normal clientele began to integrate hard rock and hip-hop. Between 2004 and 2008 alone, he received credits on albums by Kanye West, Disturbed, Rihanna, Twista, Lil Jon, Usher, E-dub, and Jin with all recordings going platinum or gold. During this time, Steinmetz also helped to pioneer the field of music mixing in 5.1 Surround Sound. Chris Steinmetz created his own label, Stonecutter Records, in 2006 out of the desire to “advance artists to the next level in their careers and get them the exposure they deserve.” The label’s first project, Acoustic Chicago, is a compilation of 13 Chicago artists and features their music in an acoustic format to highlight songwriting ability. Currently, Steinmetz splits his time between working as a freelance Music Producer/Engineer/Mixer, running his label Stonecutter Records and his newest creation, Stonecutter Studios. 33 2024 Winter/Spring Brochure I (847) 381-0687

Candlelight Restorative Yoga & Yoga Nidra Meditation Evening
$20/$25 (1 day) Fitness Studio B Actv.#102572 Sec.# 01 You are invited to Reset and Relax with Yoga Instructors Julie and Karen for an evening of gentle stretching and guided meditation. Restorative Yoga is a restful Yoga practice and is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching using blankets, blocks and bolsters. Relaxing the muscles, lowering the heart rate and allowing the nervous system to slow down are all techniques used in Restorative Yoga to help balance fast-paced lifestyles. Finding stillness allows for healing, both physically and mentally, which ultimately supports us in being more focused and effective. After the Restorative portion, the class will transition to Yoga Nidra meditation. An ancient practice, Yoga Nidra is sometimes referred to as “Yogic Sleep”, and is a deep relaxation form of meditation that guides you into conscious awareness of each part of the body for effortless and deep relaxation. Lie comfortably, covered in your favorite cozy blanket from home, while being led through a sequence of cues designed to relax your body and mind. Leave feeling refreshed and enlivened!

Description
Nicole
Life is busy, and we often power through each day without giving much thought to our eating routines. We react to our environment instead of responding with awareness and using our senses. We rush through meals on-the-go, or eat lunch at work in front of computer screens. All of these factors affect the food choices we make and the eating habits we form. Learn what Mindful Eating means and how taking a more thoughtful approach can help you lose weight, increase awareness of hunger and fullness, reduce stress, improve digestion, decrease overeating and binge eating and increase your enjoyment and satisfaction with food. This workshop provides the tools needed to make healthier food choices and habits to last a lifetime.
Nicole
Are you struggling to achieve your goals or even how to set them? Does life get in the way when you do set goals? Maybe you’ve experienced a lapse in progress causing a negative thought spiral that discourages you from staying on track. Learn how to define, decide and achieve your goals based on your vision and values. This workshop will help you define what is most important to you, understand what you want to achieve, overcome the barriers that get in the way, reframe thought distortions when lapses occur and break your goals into bite-sized pieces using the SMART goal methodology. Let us help you pave a simple, attainable path to success.

Small changes to your everyday food choices can make a huge impact on your health! Including more plant foods in your diet increases energy levels, provides satiety and helps prevent disease. It’s easier than you might think! In this hands-on workshop, we will make a popular meal using a few “healthy swaps” to make it more nourishing while tasting delicious!

Are you unsure how to begin your health and fitness journey? Conflicting messages in popular media about food and exercise can leave you feeling confused and discouraged. Losing fat and gaining muscle is an achievable goal, and we can help you start the process. This first of 3 workshops introduces Body Recomposition, a fitness and dietary approach that combines the dual objectives of losing weight and gaining muscle. We will share a science-backed approach to changing body composition and help you understand how to identify fads and misinformation. Learn how Body Recomposition benefits all ages and fitness levels, and walk away with an understanding of macronutrients, energy balance, nutrient density and caloric density vs. nutrient density.
Brooke
Are you ready to take your nutrition to the next level? In this second of three workshops focused on losing fat and gaining muscle, you will learn how to track what’s going in your body! This class will begin with a review of macronutrients and help establish basic percentage goals needed for fat loss. Everyone will learn how to use a food scale to accurately measure food portions and explore some popular apps that are available for food tracking.
Doris
While many people struggle with fat loss and muscle gains, women face unique challenges during perimenopause and menopause, and meeting body composition goals can be extremely difficult. Women in this phase of life often feel like they are constantly hitting walls. This class provides the latest, evidence-based information and tools specifically designed to help you through your menopausal wellness and fitness journey, including topics like hormones, sleep, stress, nutrition and exercise.

How often do you read the nutrition labels on the back of your favorite food products? Do you feel confident in choosing the best options when comparing labels? This class will dive into how to read food labels so you know exactly what you are putting in your body. We will then start to compare the nutrition labels of some popular snacks and make the best choice based on using that nutrition label knowledge.
Doris
Supplementation is a huge industry and can be daunting. This class will shed light on which supplements may help your fitness levels, fat loss and general wellness. You will learn which supplements, including protein, are not worth your money and which supplements are worth every penny.
Brooke
You’re doing all the right things: you’re working out, eating healthy and still not seeing the results you want. We get it! In this class, we will dive into areas that could be holding you back, including sleep, managing stress and more. We will connect all of the pieces to help you achieve the results you are seeking.

Reality-Based Self-Defense for Teens & Adults AGES: 16 YEARS AND UP Have you ever worried what you would do if you were the target of criminal violence? Could you protect yourself or the ones you love? If the above questions have ever been a concern, you will find both the skills and understanding with this training! This program is tailored to busy individuals that do not have time to commit to formal marital arts training. It is a reality-based self-defense system blended with the sciences of anatomy and sports physiology. All training is done with the following assumptions: • Your attacker(s) are bigger, stronger, or have weapons. • You are already being attacked (and your options to get away are gone). It is a simple, safe, and devastatingly effective program using intuitive movements that anyone can do regardless of physical ability. It is slow paced with minimal stress. Students will learn to accurately target vulnerable structures and areas of the human body, build mental sight pictures and muscle memory – all with the goal to recall and use when it’s most needed. No prior martial arts training is required.

The Barrington Park District and South Barrington Park District have joined together to offer the children in the Barrington area a fun, recreational basketball league. Players of all skill levels are encouraged to participate in this high-energy league for budding hoops players. Whether your child is new to the game, or looking to improve basketball skills, this program is the perfect way to have fun playing hoops! GENERAL INFORMATION • Participants are grouped by age: grades 3 and 4, grades 5 and 6 and grades 7 and 8 are combined to create age-appropriate teams. • Players are evaluated before the start of the season to ensure proper team placement. No friendship requests allowed. • All games are officiated by certified referees. • Those interested in coaching a team should submit a coaching application form to Kent Hengels via email at khengels@barringtonparkdistrict.org. • Tournament is a two-game guarantee, not a double elimination. • Coaches for each team will determine practice times for that team. All players must attend one practice per week to be eligible for equal playing time during Sunday games.
PRACTICE INFORMATION • All practices are held during the week at various District 220 schools. • Coaches for each team determine the location (school), time and day of the week your child will practice. • Players will be required to attend one practice per week in order to qualify for equal playing time on Sundays. • Practices will be canceled whenever there is a school closing or school function, including winter break. * No refunds will be given due to conflicts with practice and/or game times. ** If enrollment is too low for the Girls Basketball League, we join an intervillage league (see bottom of page for information).

DO I HAVE TO BE ANY GOOD? - All skill levels welcome, but players must know how to keep score. Park District - Challenge Programs
The Barrington Park District offers a variety of Challenge Programs designed to meet the needs of a wide diversity of groups. All of our programs are designed to bring together or strengthen your group, and are tailored to meet your specific needs and goals. We believe that participants absorb more when they are physically, socially, intellectually and emotionally involved in the learning process. Our trained facilitators engage groups in activities that allow the participants to take ownership of their learning. Each program allows time for the participants to discuss the experience and relate the learning outcomes back to “real world” situations. Teams Challenge Course: A variety of problem-based initiatives awaits the team as they are given challenges that might use ropes, cables, platforms, boards or a 12-foot wall. All challenges require teamwork from every member in order to accomplish the goal. Individual strengths are highlighted and the small group size allows for participation by everyone. These challenges take place on or near the ground and require focus, cooperation and trust. Over 20 stations are spread throughout the wooded trails. Cooperative Games: Learn team-building skills while playing fun, active games. Cooperation, communication, strategy and good sportsmanship are stressed. Great for younger-aged groups!

PROUD TO SPONSOR
BARRINGTON PARK DISTRICT
Our community is one of a kind. When the air gets crisp here and the snow starts to fall, it’s truly unlike anywhere else. That’s why we’re happy to give back to the area we call home. From event sponsorships to free financial courses, we’re committed to supporting everyone who plays a part in making our hometown great. After all, this isn’t just home to us; it’s home to all of us.
This season we are highlighting some of the beautiful locations throughout Citizens Park. This painting, done by one of the many talented Kaleidoscope School of Fine Art’s artists, features one of several serene waterfalls located in the Park. We hope you will take the time to visit this beautiful location and take in the sights and sounds of nature while relaxing one of the nearby park benches. Kaleidoscope School of Fine Art is a 501c3 not-for-profit art school and community art resource located in downtown Barrington.
