Our focus is also showing respect for nature and the environment by conducting all our business in a sustainable way. This includes joining the Fair Wear Foundation as part of our activities to promote corporate social responsibility. Our heritage is the cold, dark and snowy winters of northern Sweden, as well as its long bright summers that have plenty of both sun and rain. In the winter, we are concerned with keeping warm and dry, so that we can play in the giant amusement park provided by the natural world. It’s also about staying safe and secure, ensuring that no product fails to provide adequate protection. This is why we make sturdy and reliable products that sometimes offer “both belt and braces”.

In the summer our concerns are much the same as regards safety and security, but when temperatures are high and the sun is beating down, the worry is not about keeping warm but rather staying cool – and for that you don’t need lots of hi-tech clothing. So our summer challenges include rain, mosquitoes, abrasive rocks, wind and sunshine. Demands from our customers vary with where they come from and their activities and adventures. We can’t please everyone, that’s for sure; we don’t have many products that would fit into the category of “Outdoor Leisure”. However, some do – among them are our new shirts Sleipner and Pertra, which also have that special Klättermusen design touch. Another new item is the reincarnation of the Mithril pants, suitable for climbing and which have a special feature in the women’s model that will make life easier and safer for all women climbers. But no matter whether it’s summer or winter, a blizzard is always a blizzard, unreliable and ferocious. And Klättermusen will always be Klättermusen, reliable and outstanding.

The naked truth

This is an extremely advanced pack, but it is very easy to adjust. The floating V-Free Flex™ shoulder harness may feel a little tight and stiff at first, but the system really starts to show its strengths after only a few kilometres on the trail. In the shop, a conventional padded carrying system feels deceptively comfortable, but pain can start building up when carrying a heavy load, due to pressure on the muscles. This is where Mjölner demonstrates its superiority.

Mjölner is Thor’s magic battle hammer that was crafted by dwarves, never misses its target and always returns to its owner. When it’s not in use, Mjölner conveniently shrinks to a size that means it can be worn as a necklace.

However, a single loop can sometimes slide a bit, as they are woven into the webbing. They don’t break and can always be pulled back into shape.

Odin’s magical spear Gungner, like Mjölner, always hits its mark and then returns to the thrower. Not surprisingly, it was made by the same dwarves that created Mjölner.

Granite (granit in Swedish) is one of the Earth’s most common rock types and has a coarse structure. Granit was also one of the first backpacks created by Klättermusen.

To get the maximum benefit from the butterfly bridge® shoulder pads, you must adjust their length so that the bridge is on top of your shoulders. Always tighten the hip belt’s top buckles more than the lower ones. One big compartment means that packing is easy, but that it may take more time to find a special item. Ratatosk was the squirrel that carried messages and gossip between an eagle that lived at the top of Yggrasil (tree of the world) and the dragon Nidhögg who lived at the roots; a kind of messenger between high and low places or people.

Röskva means “the swift one” and is a brave servant of Thor, god of thunder.

Mimer has a showerproof zip, but the seams are not taped so it is not fully waterproof. The outside stretch pocket should not be used for sensitive electronics in the rain. Inside is a simple laptop compartment, but it does not offer the same level of protection as Gnå.

Name story

Mimer was a giant who guarded the spring of wisdom at the root of the world tree, Yggdrasil. Anyone who drank from Mimer’s well would know everything about what had happened and what would happen. Mimer knew most things, because he drank from the spring every day.

The naked truth

Although the fabric has the highest tear strength possible for a lightweight material, it is still very low compared to our other backpacks. You should be prepared to use the enclosed repair kits now and again. If you want to haul your backpack around a lot, choose another Klättermusen pack. It is not waterproof, so please use a drybag for your dry socks and sleeping bag when it is raining outside.

Name story

Hugin was one of Odin’s two ravens. Hugin means “the one who is inclined” or “the thought”. Hugin created truth and order along with the other raven, Munin, “the one who cares” or “memory”.

Ran was the goddess of the ocean depths and was married to a giant, Ägir. Ran caught drowned people in her giant net and held them prisoner in her halls at the bottom of the ocean.

From old fishing nets to brand new backpacks one way of reducing our environmental impact is to use recycled material in new products.

Mipan Regen® recycled polyamide fibre, which is made from waste materials like used fishing nets and old carpet flooring, is the raw material for most of our backpacks and bags. These products use 28% less oil than a product made solely from new materials, as well as considerably reducing carbon emissions. Our partner – Hyosung – is GRS certified.

GRS stands for Global Recycling Standard and

guarantees that the entire chain, from raw material to finished fabric, only includes recycled polyamide. The fabric is just as durable as new fabric and has a beautiful structure. The recycling method removes all impurities which mean that it has the same vivid colours as virgin material. It is coated with TPU, thermo polyurethane, to make it tear, scratch and weatherproof.

And this way we help to keep the oceans clean.

Name story

Myser was a sea king (also known as Mysing), who brought his host to Frode’s farm. There, he freed the giantesses Fenja and Menja, who worked at the magic mill, Grotte, which produced whatever was desired. First, they ground wealth and prosperity for the country. But Frode was greedy and wouldn’t let them rest, so they started to grind out trouble and war instead. That was why Myser arrived.

Have you ever done a strenuous walk in the mountains in a waterproof shell garment? If so, then you probably sweating a great deal and then, when you stopped, suffered from damp and chilly clothes. No waterproof shell garment will manage to transport all the moisture away from your body during strenuous activity.

MFR 2 – A garment that has good wind resistance for intense activities, but in cold winds you will need reinforcement with a higher MFR factor.

This is why we make garments with MFR – Mass Flow Resistance. It may sound complicated, but it’s actually pretty simple to understand. Mass flow is the physicists’ way of describing wind. In other words, Mass Flow Resistance is a measure of how much wind a garment lets through when you’re out in the elements. The higher the value, the better the windproofing.

For example: Gere pants in recycled polyamide.

For example: Mithril jacket in Windstretch™ fabric. MFR 5 – This won’t keep you dry if it rains, but it is suitable if you are going to be working hard and sweating a lot. It has a relatively high wind resistance.

Allgrön is a slim jacket with great fit. If you are on the large side, you should perhaps try a different jacket, or one size larger than normal. The jacket does not have a rigid wind funnel on the hood, so is not suitable for an expedition to somewhere really cold. Recycled polyester is not as durable as polyamide, but you do get a product with high ECO-index points.

Allgrön is an island that is owned by the giant, Fjölvar. It is very beautiful and it is said that the god Oden like to visit and seduce girls who are dazzled by his appearance.

The process is strictly controlled to eliminate harmful by-products, and results in a dramatic reduction of energy consumption and carbon emissions. Recycling polyester can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 77% and energy consumption by up to 84%. Furthermore, the polyester produced in the recycling process has the same high quality as polyester from a virgin source (i.e. from crude oil). This is why Klättermusen are pleased to have Teijin as one of our material suppliers. With the help of ECO-circle™, we can give new life to old fibres. Over and over again. Klättermusen uses ECO-circle™ in the Allgrön jacket and Eitre pants.

The front pocket allows you to make full use of the area between the hip belt and shoulder harness when carrying a backpack. The lightweight, two-and-a-half layer material is not as strong as the material in the heavier Brede and Froste, thus life expectancy is shorter for the Ask jacket.

The shops have a key role in getting the recycling programme to work. The consumer takes a worn-out Klättermusen product to the shop and has the deposit returned in the shape of a credit voucher – money that can be used to buy new Klättermusen equipment.

The salesperson cuts off the centre of the deposit label that is sewn into the old product and places it in an envelope. The shop sends the labels it has collected to Klättermusen and receives a credit on the next invoice. Klättermusen’s representative collects the recycling products when they visit the shop and takes it back to our facilities.
