Justine Buckmire 1st team Captain Women’s Football Sports@warwicksu.com “In my opinion, one of the best things about the Focus Team Programme is the Monday morning fitness sessions, you are surrounded by likeminded athletes who want to improve and this healthy competition means you are forced to push yourself to your physical limits. It is due to these training sessions that we’ve never come across a fitter team.”

Sport: MEN’S RUGBY UNION 1ST TEAM League: BUCS Midlands 1A Finishing Position 2012/13: 2nd Team Captain: Elliot Hodges Email: su144@warwicksu.com Website: www.uwrfc.co.uk/Home.html

Highlights of 2012/13: After being defeated earlier in the season by Coventry 1’s we went out all guns blazing for the Varsity which we won 34-31. This fuelled our determination to win game after game in the Midlands Conference Cup taking us through to the final. We were up against Oxford 1’s who had been undefeated all season but we managed to break their streak to become BUCS Midlands Conference Cup Champions.

Highlights of 2012/13: After finishing 2nd this year behind Loughborough, our season was therefore overall relatively successful but we still did not achieve what we set out. We won 10 games, but lost 3, these were to Loughborough, Worcester and Nottingham. All 3 teams we later went on to beat. We believe that we had the talent this year to finish 1st, but it was our consistency throughout the season which let us down.

Aspirations for 2013/14: To win the Conference Cup for two consecutive seasons and to win the BUCS Midlands 2A league gaining us promotion to the league above. Mission Statement: To train, play and achieve to the best of our abilities.

Aspirations for 2013/14: After missing out on promotion for the last two years it’s our team’s primary focus for the 1st team to get promoted. We aim to become a better conditioned team who excel on the field, and adopt a professional attitude towards our performance and training. Mission Statement: Win the league and get promoted.

Aspirations for 2013/14: The main aim is avoid relegation at any cost. However, considering that we are a focus team for the coming year, and hoping to fill the void left by a few of the students who have graduated, I believe we can achieve as high as 2nd in the table if not major contenders for the title. Mission Statement: Quality squash played week in and week out.

Highlights of 2012/13: We finished 3rd in a very competitive division Midlands 1A; had exemplary attendance at all training sessions and coaching sessions led by Matt Thomas, and completed all of our BUCS matches with some fantastic individual performances and cohesive team spirit.

Aspirations for 2013/14: Aiming to finish top 3 in Midlands 1A. We also strongly believe that at least 3 of our 1st team players can qualify into the last 32 in the BUCS Individuals Tournament 2014. Aspirations for 2013/14: I believe that a top two finish in the Midlands 1A league would be a realistic goal for this squad. I am also confident that we can improve our BUCS Trophy Cup run, I believe that an attainable goal would be for our team to reach the round of 16 next year. We also want to commit fully to the Focus Team Programme and ensure high levels of attendance and the commitment of all of our players. After beating Imperial College London 3-0, the team qualified for the Championship Finals ending in 7th position. The team also got an excellent 5th position in the Volleyball England Student Cup, where the best UK universities play. Aspirations for 2013/14: For next season the minimum goal is to maintain the results; to qualify for the student cup finals and make the final 8 of the BUCS Championship. However, we believe that an achievable target would also be to win the Midlands 1A league and to be top 4 in both the Student Cup and the BUCS Championships.
