Welcome to ACTIVE! Our programme is designed to cater for all students and staff. Whether you are a complete beginner, returning to sport or just want to have fun we have the perfect course for you. This extensive programme offers lessons and short courses in Badminton, Bhangra (Indian Dance), Bootcamp, Climbing, Golf, Sailing, Squash & Racketball, Self Defence, Swimming, Tennis and Windsurfing. These sessions are a great way to socialise, increase your confidence, meet new people and just try something new! They are designed to cater for all levels of ability and run in line with the University term over 2, 4, 5, 8 or 9 week blocks. Badminton £30 - 9 sessions Beginners - Learn To Play An 8 week course teaching basic shots and rules. Ideal for people new to the sport or have been playing casually before now. Improvers - Improve Your Play An 8 week course that covers the main shots and simple tactics. Ideal for developing those with a good standard (i.e. able to hold a rally for several strokes). Bhangra (Indian Dance) £30 - 8 sessions Learn to Dance An introduction to Bhangra for all ability levels. These sessions will teach you the basic moves and simple choreography to help you get fit in a fun environment.
Boot Camp £33 - 8 sessions (2 per week) Get fit with our friendly instructors to improve your lifestyle. These sessions are great for those who want to shape up and will help you: - Look and feel good - Lose weight - Learn about healthy living and nutrition - Increase strength, stamina and endurance Golf £33 - 8 sessions Whether you want to work on your technique or just give golf a try, join our lessons in the beautiful surroundings of the Warwickshire Golf Club! Beginners Golf - Learn To Play An 8 week introductory course for those new to golf. This will give you everything you need to get around the golf course without embarrassing yourself. Improvers & Intermediate Golf Improve Your Play An 8 week course for those that want to progress their skills from beginners, play more often and want to improve their technique. Instruction will take place at the Warwickshire Golf Club and Driving Range. Price includes instruction, equipment, use of the Driving Range and Par 3 Course. Learn to Climb £33 - 4 sessions A 4 week course to enable the beginner to climb indoors without instruction. You will learn the basic skills, knots and techniques enabling you to safely belay and climb indoors.
Self Defence (Women’s) £33 - 9 sessions These are fun and social groupwork sessions which will teach you the basic skills of Self Defence and give you the confidence of knowing how to protect yourself in any environment. Squash & Racketball £30 - 9 sessions Beginners - Learn To Play Interested in racket sports but don’t know where to start? This is a 9 week introductory course teaching the basic rules, techniques and tactics of both sports. Racketball is a slightly slower paced sport than squash; currently the ‘Fastest Growing Racket Sport in the UK’ Advanced & Improver Squash – Improve Your Play A 9 week course covering technique, tactics and strategy for more experienced players. Swimming £30 8 sessions Beginners - Learn To Swim Afraid of the water? Really unable to swim? Very limited experience? Learn how to swim using aids – lessons take place in the shallow end only and are ideal for becoming water confident. Improvers – Improve Your Swimming For the quite confident swimmers that can ideally swim a length in more than one stroke. All 3 major strokes broken down and improved, including an introduction to butterfly. Advanced Swimming – Perfect your technique
For the confident swimmer who will swim lengths and work in the deep end. Dives, turns and all four stroke techniques developed. Tennis We have a great programme of tennis activities for all levels and abilities in our top class facility. All courses are hosted on our indoor courts. Tennis Xpress – Learn To Play This is for players new to the game. Tennis Xpress + For players returning to the game or players who have been at starter level for a while. Cardio Tennis A fun tennis fitness workout to music for all standards. £21.25 4/5 sessions - Student £26.25 4/5 sessions - Staff Improver – Improve Your Play For players who are fairly consistent with a normal ball. Introducing shot control, spin and tactics. Intermediate – Perfect your technique Competent players looking to improve tactically and technically. £25.50 4/5 sessions - Student £30.50 4/5 sessions - Staff Windsurfing & Sailing £50 - 6 sessions Beginners - Learn To Sail This course is a great introduction to sailing, you will learn how to rig a boat, launch and sail it in all directions in moderate wind conditions. By the end of the course, you will also be able to recover from a capsize and manage your speed.
Beginners - Learn To Windsurf This course is a great introduction to Windsurfing and will give you the skills to access equipment from watersports centres worldwide. You will learn how to rig the kit, learn the theory and become confident in windsurfing and turning in moderate wind conditions. Due to Sport England funds, these courses have been subsidised for Warwick Sport members aged 18-25 (normal cost £300+). *Both Windsurfing & Sailing will take place across two full Saturdays and two Wednesday afternoons – you will need to attend all sessions in order to receive the course qualification. Transport is provided to and from the Sports Centre. Booking Information Enrolment for all courses (excluding Climbing and Tennis Lessons) can be completed online. Please note that you will need to sign up for Warwick Sport Membership before booking either by an annual payment of £55 or through pay as you play at £3.50, payable in advance for the duration of the course. This can be done online at warwicksport. com by visiting the Sports Centre Reception. courses for Term 1 are being subsidised through Sportivate for 18-25 year olds.
