NO ADDRESS... TAKING OUR HOMELAND FOR GRANTED The whole world witnessed the opening ceremony of the World Youth Forum held in Sharm Al Sheikh on the 4th of November, and the short documentary that was aired with the title ‘No Address’. The documentary was so inspiring; it broke the boundaries of sex, religion color or language. It took us in a tour through Yassin El Zoghby (an Egyptian Young man who lost one leg yet become a voice advocate to youth) who introduced us to different refugees from all over the world, some are Syrians, Iraqi, while others are from Africa who flee their present in hope for a better future, however what is common between those people is that they don’t have a Homeland, they were deprived from having an address. Some of them were fortunate to find a better future in Europe, while others were still kept in the camps waiting for their unknown destiny. It was heartbreaking to hear the miseries that those young people encountered in order to be able to escape and run for their life and no matter how fortunate their situation might be, they can’t forget their homeland, their neighborhood and most important their families that they left behind. The Syrian refugee who was settled in Germany
now mentioned that he was fortunate enough that the Germans loved his Syrian food recipes which made him able to start his own business there but he would never forget that day he was able to reach the German boarders and he was only treated as a number, nothing but a number among thousands of refugees who flee to the European shores. Another Iraqi refugee sent a very powerful message through the documentary addressing the viewers and stating that you should never take your homeland for granted, in a blink of an eye it might go away or you have to leave it and run for your life, and then you will always be a man with no address. How many times have we taken our country for granted, curse it and curse the day we were born Egyptians, sometimes for sarcasm or for losing faith in it, but we never thought of walking up one day to find Egypt gone, or not the same country we used to know anymore, and we find immigration not a choice anymore it is the only way to run for your life. Just the idea freaks me out and made me remember how fortunate we are to survive the past 6 years standing on our feet and we still have a country we could proudly call our homeland and that we still have an address.

There is a LOT of love for the Father of the Bride films, the films where Steve Martin played a dad who turned out to be reluctant to let his daughter go (but not in a creepy way) – so we were thrilled to hear that a script for a third film exists! George Newbern, who played the completely delicious groom Bryan McKenzie in the two films and who now stars in Scandal said that most of the cast would be keen to join a sequel. “[Director] Charles Shyer wrote a script. I know there’s a script out there. And there’s talk. I don’t know how far it got but I’m sure most of the cast would be into it if the script was right. So maybe that’s just a question of that happening.” Newbern also gave his thoughts on where he saw Bryan and the family, and said they “need to do a third one”.

On Wednesday, the accessible-luxury group that owns Coach, Stuart Weitzman and Kate Spade announced its intentions to change the name of its parent to Tapestry Inc., the better to express its new shape as a multibrand entity with a variety of unique properties, as opposed to one dominated by a single brand. “It’s a wonderful metaphor for what we believe in, which is individual threads of different colors all working together to create a picture,” said Victor Luis, the chief executive, waxing a little poetic. Such semantic change has become something of a corporate trend.

9 THE FRIEND-ZONE
SIGNS YOU ARE IN
u
sually guys complain about being friend zoned, but ladies aren’t immune to this phenomenon either. May be you and this guy are not dating, yet, in your mind you feel that may be with a little more time you can finally go on your first date. Don’t take this personally, but you may be in the friend zone and just don’t realize it. You might have noticed something different about him that makes you feel like you are going to be stuck in the friend zone forever. In this issue, Nora Abdallah will give you some friend zone signs to keep in mind when trying to get a guy to like you. If none of these signs sound like him, there is a chance that he likes you more than a friend. On the other hand, if any of the following sounds familiar, you may want to start working on getting out of this friend zone, or at least figure out how to just be friends with a guy you like.
1- He doesn’t answer every text
If he liked you as more than a friend, he would always be eager to talk to you. However, if he lets a few days go by without answering you, then he’s treating you the way he treats the rest of his friends, and that’s the last thing you want. Another thing is short responses. If you send a guy a text and he gives very short responses or waits a long time to respond, then you’re definitely friend zoned. Now, some men naturally aren’t good with texting, but short responses during a conversation are also friend zone signs.
2- He talks about other women
If you are not a couple and he talks about other women when you’re together, then you’ve definitely been friend zoned. If that guy you like talks about other girls he is interested in or girls he has dated and he is not trying to make you jealous or see your reaction, it’s a good sign he’s not into you. Also if he asks you about your girl friends and wants to know whether they are single or not and so keen to meet them and asks you to set an outing with them, then for sure you are out of the dating equation for him.
3- He asks for your advice about dating
If he comes to you for advice on how to wow another woman or how to deal with a certain one in a certain situation and you feel that what he is asking about is a dating advice, then you’ve definitely been friend zoned. Life is not a romantic comedy, so he is not asking for your advice in order to use it on you. Don’t fool yourself and live in the illusion that this might be the case. If he says or acts like he likes another girl, then he likes another girl. LOUNGE 18
4- He tries to set you up with his friends
Does he try to introduce you to his other male friends? Why would he play matchmaker if he wanted to date you? If a guy tells you how perfect you are for one of his friends, then he doesn’t want anything to do with you romantically. If he did, it would kill him to see you dating his friend. If the person you are interested in tries to set you up with people he knows, you are in the friend zone. He is definitely not flirting. Obviously if he is spending energy trying to find you a date then he either think you are an awesome person and genuinely want you to be happy with someone that isn’t him, or he has a feeling about your intentions and is attempting to tell you that you’d be better off with someone else.
5- He tries to give you dating advice
Does that guy ever make comments about how you would make a perfect girlfriend for someone else? Does he frequently mention that he wishes he could find a girl like you or how you are going to make an awesome wife for some lucky guy? When the guy you like gives you advice on dating, you may find yourself in one of those “he is just not that into you situations” or he would rather be friends. So if he mentions or says any of those things, there’s a good chance that he thinks of you only as a friend.
6- He doesn’t get jealous
He doesn’t get jealous when you talk about other guys in front of him, he actually encourages it. Close friends know what kind of people the other person is attracted to, like for example he knows you like athletes or bookworms, most people have a type that their close friends are all too aware of. So when the guy you are interested in calls someone
out as “your type”, it is probably an indicator that you are not his type.
7- You are a seat-filler
When you guys are together you have the best of times, but have you ever thought of the way he asked you to hang out? Do you hang out with him regularly or is it only at his convenience? If it’s mostly last minute invitations or he is using you to fill up the free time before he heads off to meet someone else, then these hang outs are on a strictly unromantic note. It’s another telltale sign that you could be stuck in the friend zone if he only comes around when it’s convenient for him. Honestly, if he is only coming around when he feels like it, he might not be that great of a friend either. If he is interested, he’s definitely going to make time to see you.
8- He’s too comfortable
If you are interested in someone, regardless of whether it’s a friend or not, you’ll want them to see you look good. So if that guy doesn’t make much effort to clean up or smell good, he might only be seeing you as a friend. I’m not saying that he is going to show up at your house in a tuxedo, but he is just going to make an effort to look good. It’s true that you want him for him, but if you are attracted to someone, you can’t help but put some effort into your appearance.
9- He forgets things you say or do
Let’s say that this guy you like has a very good memory, but you have come to the realization that he remembers things you tell him only out of politeness and not genuine interest. There are no thrilling conversations between the two of you, he doesn’t hang on to every word you say, and he is not trying to be a part of your life. He really couldn’t care less. That’s one of the friend zone signs.
When y ou like som point in eone, there com es a that pe time when y guy you rson. When yo ou say it to u try to like him or say tell and on. A ms “thanks”, the he shrugs it oa n to know an who is into it’s time to m ff, o it, he wilthat you like himyou will be thr ve illed l s to a y o . it doubt. The double Oscar nominated actor leads an all star cast that includes Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) as rookie cop Katrine Bratt and Charlotte Gainsbourg (Independence Day: Resurgence) as Harry Hole’s former lover Rakel. Based on Jo Nesbø’s best-selling novel, Hole is taunted by a sociopath who calls himself The Snowman Killer and the hard drinking detective fears that a serial killer long believed to be dead may be active again.
Set the scene for us and tell us about The Snowman… The snow falls and a serial killer awakens. His signature mark that he leaves behind is a snowman. I play Harry Hole who is this brilliant detective and is somewhat obsessed by his work. At the same time he also resents it.He is a loner who only has one friend and is an alcoholic.Harry has this relationship that spans throughout the book series with a woman called Rakel (Charlotte Gainsbourg) and her son Oleg. He is fiercely intelligent and self-destructive with his drinking. He drinks to stop the incessant noise that is always going on in his head. His mind is relentless and he drinks to numb it and try to shut it down. You’re dealing with some dark material here but Rebecca Ferguson says that there were a lot of laughs when you were filming. Is that true? Yes, we had a lot of fun. It helps when you work with that element of levity. We had that when we were doing 12 Years a Slave. You are dealing with serious issues, for sure, because it represents history. It also tends to release the pressure and you have fun with it. I work so much that I like to have fun on set and you have a good time when you love what you do. Did you know Jo Nesbø’s books? I didn’t know them before I got this script. The first thing that attracted me to it was Tomas Alfredson. We had met before and Tomas really made an impression on me and so when this came up I was like ‘great, we get the opportunity to work together…’ Then I realized that there is a whole series of highly successful books and I started to read them. I read them all except this one. Why not this one? I knew that the script we had was different in a lot of plot marks and lines to the book.I wanted to use the script as the bible. I didn’t want to be reading the book and going ‘I really like that. Tomas why isn’t this in there?’ and get preoccupied with the book. I decided to read what happens before this book and what happens after it. Did you meet Jo Nesbø? Yes, he took me climbing. He is big time into
LOUNGE 26
climbing and is really good at it.We went to a climbing wall in Oslo and had something to eat afterwards. It was cool. He’s a nice guy who has a brilliant mind. He has had all these different incarnations in life – started off as a football player, was a musician, a stockbroker and now a highly successful writer. Would you play Harry Hole again? I’d love to. I really love the character. What do you love about him? I just have a lot of affection for him because I find him to be very human. He is not an action hero – he goes into a scenario and always ends up coming out the worse for wear, but will always commit himself to it. I don’t want to give anything away here but there’s something physical that gets left behind in all the different stories. I also like the relationship with Rakel. He is a very unique male hero and that knows himself very well. He’s his own man and I find that attractive to play. Were you nervous about playing such a cherished character? There’s always a little bit of intimidation. If I’m doing Magneto, it’s a huge fan base, or Steve Jobs. There is always that. You have a healthy respect and a healthy disrespect to be free to do what you want with the character. And then you begin to build the character? The input is basically what I have done in terms of homework and the ideas that I have. Then I will come on set to reveal them and they are either accepted or not. There is so much information in the books that I had a lot to work with. Then of course Tomas is the boss, and he’s got his own visions. Therefore, we would sit down and he inspires the actors to go in a certain direction. We would spend mornings where we would discuss a lot, before we even started rolling the cameras. It was a very enjoyable experience working with Tomas. You’re a man of few words in this movie– Which is great (laughs). Do you think you’re a man of few words in real life? That depends who I’m with. It depends on the circumstance. We are very different people, Harry Hole and I.
You’re half-German, half-Irish, living in Lisbon. What do you think about Brexit? I think it’s really sad because in general I’m not a fan of borders. Number one, it’s a pain in the arse to go through them, and I don’t like the concept. I understand why people have voted for it, but I like the idea of Europe being a community – the concept, at least, of what it started out to be. Now, with austerity and how it’s come into play in certain countries, I can understand that people are fed up with that, and the exploitation of that scenario – money being leant, and then interest having to be paid back to the person that’s lending it to you. I get it, but in terms of the concept around it, I’m pro-Europe. Just for the younger generation to have that opportunity to move freely from country to country to work in Europe. Also, to prevent war – I think those two reasons alone make me feel like I’d rather see Europe together. Will it affect you personally? No, I don’t think so. I guess it won’t affect me. It will affect me because it’s the environment that you live in and that affects all of us.

Do you feel you’ve changed as an actor? I don’t know. I feel like I’ve gained more experience for sure. Definitely when I was starting out as a 19 year-old, I had a lot of angst. There was a lot of suffering for your art type style when I was in drama school. As I went through drama school and past that, I started developing more of a relaxed approach in terms of being in the role and then stepping out, and leaving it behind when I go home. I was working so much; I found it was healthier for me to do it that way.

“SHEIKH JACKSON TACKLES IDENTITY CRISIS” a
mira Tharwat went up-close & personal with director of Sheikh Jackson Amr Salama. The Oscar-nominated movie director reveals all about what made him write and direct the movie, why it is special to him and gives us a glimpse on his upcoming project Iraqi Sniper.
LOUNGE 30
How did the idea of Sheikh Jackson come about? It was actually the idea of Omar Khaled and we talked on the phone and he told me that he has this idea of a “salafi” who loves Michael Jackson. I felt that it resembles a lot of my stages in life when I was young and it could be addressing the identity crisis in a way. So I felt that I would love to write the movie and I asked his permission to write it and after I wrote it we worked on it together. It took you years before the project sees the light, what took you so long? Mainly it was because of writing it, and in the middle of the writing process I worked on something else. The writing took about two and half years as it was a difficult movie to be written. The main idea is not completely clear so it could take us in many directions. So we wrote it in different ways until we finally reached the way that we were satisfied and happy with. Is the movie is more of a biography? It has a lot to do with my own personal life when I was young. I used to love him a lot during my college years. Then after growing up I believe that it addresses the identity crisis of a lot of us especially during the last 6 years. Some people linked between the character Ahmed El Fishawy is playing and the internal conflict he already experienced between being strictly religious and being a free spirit, do you agree? Exactly, this actually didn’t happen to me or Ahmed El Fishawy only, it happened to a whole generation and a lot of people went through these stages at certain points in life. Did you personally experience shifting to the more religious spectrum at an earlier stage of your life? Yes it happened to me, as I told you in the early years of college I went through the more religious spectrum. So it is more of a generation crisis that all the 80s generation witnessed including you and Fishawy? Because the internet entered our lives in the middle of our teen years and adolescence. Our lives before the internet and after it are completely different. We were raised in a certain way, and we used to hear the same things at school, at home and even in the mosques. Then suddenly the internet came and we became more open to the whole world, we realized that all the things we were told and taught are not necessarily right. This made a big change in our characters and made us question a lot of things. You said that one of the most enjoyable things about art is that you get the chance to transform real people into fictional characters in a movie and expose how ugly they are. Which of the movie’s characters that you enjoyed exposing its ugliness the most? What I said was to show people their actions in general, whether good or bad. All the characters in the movie are inspired from real characters that I met in my life. The movie is internationally acclaimed, what is the most touching and effective comment you received about it? The most comment that I love is when people tell me that they actually went through this or when they tell me that it was as if they were watching their own life. This means that they can relate to the story. Especially when they say that for example their parents wanted
them to do a certain thing while they wanted another and things like that. It shows that the movie was able to reflect the conflicts they went through and personal situations in their lives. You always complain that your family doesn’t take you seriously as a director did things change now? This happened right after my first movie. Before that they didn’t think that I could do or achieve something, but after the premiere of my first movie they changed their minds completely and became very proud of me. They are now my biggest fans. How do you feel about having the movie nominated to the Oscars? The movie wasn’t nominated for the Oscars. It was chosen to be sent to the Oscars, but there are still a lot of stages to go through and still too early to confirm the nomination. And what is your response to Egyptian cinema makers who object? Everyone has his own views and intentions, so I can’t really make any comment about this. Tell us more about the project that you, Ramy Imam and Mohamed Diab are working on… We are working on a series “Tayea” starring Amr Youssef, written by Mohamed Diab, produced by Ramy Imam and directed by me. It is my first time to direct a TV series
so it’s a very important step for me. Also Mohamed Diab, who is a friend of mine since 14 years, told me about this idea and I wanted to make a movie out of it but it was postponed for many reasons. So now when we thought about transforming it to a TV series I am very happy and excited about it. It is also the first time to work with Mohamed Diab after all these years of friendship. And Helm institution ad? We made this ad from about 4 months. I am very happy and proud of this ad in particular because the idea of this ad is that after doing it they go to the sponsors and tell them that with every click in a form of like or share you will pay us. So I was very happy because since it was made a lot of achievements took place and we were able to make life easier for a lot of people because of this ad. What else are you working on… I am working on a lot of things at the moment and don’t know which of them will I start with. But most probably the first one would be a movie called “Iraqi Sniper” which is written and directed by me and under EgyptianInternational production. We are not settled on the star yet, but most probably he will be the same actor who played the Iraqi sniper in the movie “American Sniper”.

MARYAM BREAKING THE SALEHNORM IN LEKHFA
w
ith almost one million fans on her facebook page, Maryam Saleh guaranteed herself a distinguished place in the world of independent music with her extraordinary lyrics, voice and personality. This month Lounge talks to the curly haired musician along with Maurice Louca & Tamer Abu Ghazaleh to reveal all about their latest album Lekhfa. LOUNGE 32
What brought you together and what was the common starting point for this album? Maurice: When we decided to work together, we didn’t really have any particular ideas about what we wanted to create, we came together because we liked each other’s work. It was a friend who introduced me to Tamer’s music, she was a big fan of his work and she made me listen to his album Mir’ah. At first I didn’t quite get it, and after a while I listened to it again and I literally became obsessed with that album. I also love Tamer’s latest album, Thulth. And with Maryam, we both worked in Leyla Soliman’s theatre piece Lessons in Revolting (2011), and it was back then that we started talking about wanting to work together. Maryam sometimes speaks about dissonance and singing out of tune, which is what some traditionalists have said about her singing. To me, however, Maryam has the ideal voice, it has such a distinct character, you recognize Maryam’s voice instantly even if it’s a song you’ve never heard before by her. Maryam: I had been a fan of Maurice’s music as well. There is one particular track in his first album Garraya, its called Half Tooth, that track is probably an all time favourite for me. With Tamer, we’ve been around each other’s work for a while, he co-produced my first album, Mesh Baghanny, wrote a couple of my songs and he sometimes plays bass in my band, but we’ve never fully collaborated until this project. Tamer: For me in Maurice’s first album Garrayya, what stood out is that the tools and
instruments he uses are all electronic, yet they really give you the Tarab feeling of Arabic music and I was really intrigued by that. I was possessed by the tracks to the extent where I had this crazy idea to do my own interpretation of every track with vocals. I would say the same about Maryam as well; I think she is a unique interpreter of songs. All the songs in this album feature texts by Mido Zoheir, why did you choose to work with his poems only? Maurice: Whilst with most of the songs the melody came first and then we would find the right text for it, from the onset the one element we all agreed on is that we would be working with Mido Zoheir’s texts. Maryam from the beginning was experimenting vocally using Mido’s texts. Tamer: Maryam has all of Mido’s work, both published and unpublished, and she’s always worked with his texts, perhaps he’s the one poet she’s used texts from the most. Maryam: It’s almost second nature to me, working with Mido’s texts. I think only five of my songs don’t feature his texts. I usually check what Mido is writing or has just written and take it from there, only when he has nothing at all, do I go looking for other texts or write my own. Mido has this knack for articulating what we all feel with such wrenching simplicity, yet his choice of words makes the emotions you feel quite complex and multidimensional. He also has this dark comedy edge running through all of his texts. He is fascinating, quite talented.
When you look closer into his texts, he uses everyday language, says things the way we would say them in casual conversations, yet he pens them as poetry, he’s a genius! Tamer: For us, Mido is the best poet of his generation. With him, it’s such a spontaneous outpouring of poems, he doesn’t think about them or structure them, they just come to him, with abundance. Maurice: Mido is of his time and place. I think what gives the album such an Egyptian sound is Mido’s work more than any other component in the music. His humour and the way he juxtaposes the words are so very Egyptian - take “te’ban ‘ala kol sellem, ‘aqrab fe kol sa’a (a snake on every ladder and a hand on every clock)” as an example - he embodies a certain state of being, and he’s not actually depressing. On the surface, you might think it’s about the dire reality and all, but somehow his texts don’t bring you down. I don’t know how he does that. There are quite a few songs in the album that really get to me, but in a beautifully inspiring way somehow. It’s in most of his work, this sensibility, in the songs that Maryam sang from him. He’s not nihilistic. Maryam: He’s not nihilistic at all, there is a living part of him that wants to be happy, so letting it all out in poetry is a way of coping. Tamer: So although the starting point for every song was a melody, then we would settle on the text that works with it, the texts from then on had huge influence on the songs. We had to flesh out the rhythms in quite a few songs to
maintain the effect in each verse for example. Maurice: In other songs, decisions on whether Maryam & Tamer would sing as one voice or two voices, those were based on the words. So a lot of the dramatic and musical decisions were based on the words. Tamer: When we listen back to the foundational ideas in a song like Teskar Tebky (Drunk, you weep), the major contrast between the words and the music. There is sadness in the words yet the music is not sad. Maurice: Essentially Mido is the fourth member in this collaboration. Maryam: yes he is for sure, he’s the speaker of the band in some way, we sing his words. This independent movement in music across the region, how do you see it? Do you think in the future we will look back on this movement, musically, as a moment when Arabic music took new turns? Maurice: It depends from which viewpoint you see it. If you’re a traditionalist, you would think that all these attempts are shallow. In my view though, it is definitely a period of experimentation in Arabic music more than any other period since the 30s and as Tamer mentions, it has been almost two decades now since these attempts have been emerging. But I am not necessarily consumed by or interested in how we talk about this period, I am more interested in inhabiting somewhere where there is a certain energy and momentum and that has been the case in Cairo and that is why I live here, and I feel it and hear it in the work
of those around me in the region. You also see it in the reactions of those who visit Cairo and come across the pockets of alternative music. Maryam: But it’s hard to really know whether this movement does not have its roots much earlier than 20 years ago, because we didn’t live that period so it’s hard to know how it felt back then. Tamer: It’s true, but the attempts have definitely multiplied in the last 20 years and the internet has played a key part in accelerating and intensifying this movement. Never before did you have such mobility in non-commercial music across the region, having huge fan bases for Jordanian alternative music right here in Egypt for example. How do you explain all the influences heard in your work in Lekhfa and in your solo projects? Maurice: The most intriguing music for me nowadays is not music coming from the places we’re used - Europe or the US for example. There are more interesting inspirations coming from regions that we can call third or developing world. I think this is because of the accumulation of worldwide influences within musicians in the latter regions that gives birth to music that is different from the fusion we’ve been hearing in world music for example. So for my generation, we were naturally immersed in the music of our region and we also listened to rock, jazz and other international genres, so it’s only natural that you would hear all of this
LOUNGE 33
in our music. I’ve heard a band recently from South Africa (The Brother Moves On), and it was the same thing, their music was very much of its time and place, as well hearing rock and other influences within it and the outcome is something totally new that I had never heard before. Mahraganat music is a great example with how it became very popular in Europe and there was no fetishism involved, there is a novelty element of course, but Western audiences related to it as totally new dance music. I also noticed this shift throughout my years touring in Europe. At first, we would only get booked within Arab culture related events and festivals, and now it’s changing and we’re being programmed within festivals that are not for world music or for Arabic music, instead we’re being programmed for musical reasons and the feedback from audiences makes it clear that they relate to our music because they hear something familiar yet new. This makes me believe that the present and future of new music is no longer in the confines of the dominant cultures. Maryam: I am slightly uncomfortable when I am asked to elaborate on the influences within my music, because first and foremost, I enjoy making music and when audiences hear my music and they enjoy it, I feel I’ve succeeded at transmitting my thoughts and ideas regardless of where I come from or where the audience
LOUNGE 34
comes from or what I’ve been listening to. Maurice: I think what Maryam says is exactly the point, it is so natural the process of making music and whatever ends up in our music is not the doing of a conscious process, so when you’re asked how come you have such Western influences in your work, at first it’s a surprise. What is also important to note is that growing up in somewhere like Egypt, even though in the 80s and 90s you had singular attempts from Arab artists such as Sabreen in Palestine, there was no way of getting hold of any alternative music from within your region, so at the point when I started looking for anything alternative (other than the mainstream you hear on TV and Radio), it was easier to find alternative Western music than alternative Arabic. So you would have makeshift kiosks in the street that would sell bootlegged cassettes of Pink Floyd or Guns n’ Roses, or you could write a playlist for them and come back after a week and they would have it for you on tape. So that was the reality for anyone growing up in Egypt curious for anything alternative. You realise later on when you grow up that there were alternative attempts within your own country and region that you didn’t hear about because you didn’t have access to them. Tamer: Even Sheikh Imam right here at home in Egypt, very few people knew about him because there was a blackout on his music and
you wouldn’t know about him unless you grew up in a musical or alternative household. There is something twisted about this album, what can you tell us about that? Maryam: Song structure wise, Lekhfa is not so unconventional actually. Maurice: Lekhfa is deceptive in some way, it invites you in as if it’s on your side but really it isn’t! Tamer: If we say that in mainstream music, you find conventions in song writing or in how songs progress and in their structure, this is not necessarily a natural way of making music and in alternative there are no conventions. So we don’t go into a song consciously thinking that we want to twist it in this or that way, in fact with all the songs in this album, and our work individually, the compositions lead us somewhere and we go with them, so in the end some songs are not radio friendly, or they don’t contain rhythms as they’re usually heard or sometimes we even end up with various rhythms in the same song. Maurice: And in that process we do notice sometimes that a particular song starts sounding a little bit 90s for example, and we were OK with that. I guess it’s only natural that the outcome is in some way twisted, because each of us is twisted in his or her own head, so it’s hard for our music to come out straight!

Egypt should conquer Medical Tourism Field We are living in a new era of economy that every country is trying to find more innovating ideas to evolve. And as an Egyptian, I find it really irritating that we’re not part of that! Egypt’s got such great unique not only historical or geographical sites, but also medical and psychological environment. As I myself has witnessed some patients who come to my clinic from all over the world as I’m proud to say that the medical field in Egypt is witnessing its peak value these days and we should take advantage of that to help our economy grow. As people crave coming here already, they look up to us and being here is like a dream to them. So we should help them by building suitable hospitals, easing their entrance to the country and preparing special guides to make their healthy vacation in Egypt as profitable and enjoyable as possible.

Miss Arab World – Egypt Experience That’s why I was really honored to help in Presenting Egypt in the “Miss Arab World – Egypt” as a member of the judgment committee, among a great variety of Egypt and Arab world’s celebrities, artists and media. It was such an amazing experience, especially being a part of a group that shares the same values and thoughts about “the real definition of Beauty”. Those amazing people love being special, having a lean delicate soul and natural looks. That’s what beauty is really about. Definition of beauty The screaming look that says “Hi, I’ve just got a plastic surgery” is not the look any woman seeks. Because every single one of them has got her own harmony that makes her unique. You don’t need to change Just to look like someone else, if you want to change something, make sure you’re doing it because you believe that this is what you want & need plus you have to lean on a good honest doctor to tell you if it’s a wise decision. The final result you should expect is an artistic naturally balanced face and body, and that’s the real beauty. Body Sculpturing Giving you the harmonic body you’ve always dreamed of is really simple. Notice that I didn’t say easy because it’s not. It takes a really artistic doctor to figure out what’s best for your body .But the available techniques and technologies are what make it really simple. Remember when all you needed to have your dream body was to hit the gym
every day, eat healthy food all the time, be on a really strict diet and systematical life? Well now forget that all, cause you deserve the luxury of Body Sculpturing. Now the areas of your body that got extra fat can be really slim and fit in just a matter of hours. Even the areas that need enlargement can get that with many methods. Even the extra saggy skin can honorably say goodbye to you now! Excited? Then let’s dig into details. Liposuction Body Liposuction is really the best solution for that fat belly you can’t get rid of or those really big thighs that hurt your moves. As you can lose all that fat in just one session within hours. And you can just get back to your daily routine in 4 – 8 days. With no scars, no side effects and of course no fat cells as before. The technique I’m using is “Vaser” which is an FDA approved device that sends ultrasonic waves which vibrates the fat cells in any targeted area, affecting only these cells and driving them to melt so we can get them out of your body. Those fats can then be treated and re-injected into another area that needs enlargement; this is called “Fat Injection”. Fat injection Fat injection is simply the process of transferring fat from an area to another in your body in order to give your body the desired shape. It’s a safe procedure that shows amazing results, the only downer in it is the need to have liposuction first to get the needed fats for the injection and start getting them ready to be injected in the desired area. In some cases, the body might not have the required amount of fat for the injection, and that’s when we suggest “Silicone implants” for enlargement.
Silicone Implants Silicone is a terrifying word for some people as the fuzz was all around its side effects and how it can cause breast cancer. So till now every time I suggest it for a patient, they get really scared and ask for any other possible solution. But I’d like to assure you, silicone implants are really safe, they don’t have any side effects and they don’t even interact or react to any body tissue. So they’d never cause cancer. Plus, the silicone implant gives you a perfect stable shape for your breast, with a result that lasts for almost 10 years. And it’s not only used for breast enlargement, it’s also used for butt-lifting or enlargement. Speaking about “lift”,let’s talk about skin lifting. Saggy skin lifting Skin lifting is an essential plastic surgery. As saggy skin doesn’t only look bad, it also affects your movability and it never fits with any clothes. It makes you always in need of wearing corsets and as painful as it sounds, we’d have to remove all that skin and maybe we’ll need to dig a little under it to tighten up your muscles too. But don’t worry this surgery is totally safe, and all the scars has proven to decay fast. And this skin lifting isn’t only for your body … it’s also great for your face. Face lift Face lift is the procedure of removing saggy skin look and Wrinkles; it could be performed by many methods such as: facial skin lift, golden threads, Botox and fillers. So let’s first talk about “facial skin lift “the most famous plastic surgery that everyone can’t help but notice. How young and charming it makes you look! And how natural the new method’s results are! Facial skin lift depends on removing extra skin and tightening the face in a specific coordination, causing all the
wrinkles to disappear. Other method: Golden Threads (French Threads) is a new developed technique that’s artistically applied under your skin in a specific pattern that pulls up skin and removes all the wrinkles to give you a smooth tight face within just few minutes. Botox & Filler We can’t talk about removing wrinkles without mentioning the best technique to remove and prevent them (Botox and filler). Unlike the other anti-aging facial beauty procedures, Botox and filler are just formulas that could be injected to the area that suffers from wrinkling. As Botox is applied to the muscle to make it more relaxing so your facial expressions won’t leave lines. Filler on the Other hand is a filling material that enlarges the area. It’s injected in causing the existing lines to really fade; it can also be used to enlarge: cheeks &lips. But if you’re looking for the procedure that really transforms your facial look, it’s Rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty Rhinoplasty (AKA Nose Job) is a very tricky surgery, it needs a really skilled plastic surgeon to perform this transformation, making the result not only beautiful but natural. As the real tricky part is to sculpt the nose to fit the face and body then make sure it looks really normal. This surgery as tricky and artistic as it sounds, is really safe and simple, as it’s done with a tiny scar in your nose from the inside , so it doesn’t leave any noticeable marks , plus it could be done with local anesthetic for some cases. So we could say that, everything you need to boost your beauty is available now with real safe and simple methods. You just need to shine bright.

The winter months are notorious for bringing on weight gain, and most of us acknowledge that we tend to eat more during these months. Our metabolism does not slow down during the winter. In fact, it may actually speed up in order to help us keep our bodies warm. It’s likely winter weight gain is caused by our eating behavior and decreased exercise during the colder months. The good news is that by acknowledging these things and making changes to your habits, you can prevent winter weight gain. Nuts Make the swap and choose nuts over chips for a crunchy alternative. Nuts are rich in heart-healthy fats but are calorically dense (about 170 calories per ounce) so measure out an ounce (about 24 almonds) and stick to that amount instead of feasting on the entire bag. Almonds and other nuts are a naturally high source of vitamin E, calcium, magnesium, and potassium and are rich in protein and fiber.
Snack Bars If you’re having a sweet attack and are looking for a healthy “bar” that isn’t loaded with sugar, reach for one that is all natural. They contain no added sugar, and are made from whole, natural ingredients like dates, almonds, cashews, and cranberries. These bars are rich in fiber, low in sodium, loaded with vitamins and minerals, and run around 200 calories per serving. Pack these convenient bars in a purse or pocket for an instantly sweet and filling snack.
Dates stuffed with almonds Large in both size and flavour, Medjool dates are a great natural sugar hit. Grown on date palm trees, these sweet fruits originate in the Middle East and make for the ultimate delectable snack. Replace the fruit stone with an almond for texture and crunch to compliment the soft and gooey date. Due to their naturally sweet taste, three or four dates does perfectly.
Veggies with Ranch Beat the high-fat, highsodium snacks featured at the convenience store and pack a container of fresh veggies like carrots, celery, and grape tomatoes. Raw veggies fill you up because of their high water and fiber content. If you struggle eating veggies in the buff, try dipping them in 2 tablespoons of low-fat Ranch dressing (80 calories), hummus (70 calories), or salsa (10 calories).
Cucumber-Feta Bites Cucumbers are a wonderful alternative to crackers during snack time. Top them off with a little cream cheese, nonfat Greek yogurt, feta cheese, and walnuts for a protein-packed crunch. Cute, portable, and easy, these are great party starters that guests will love snacking on. Tangy feta cheese steals the show and brightens up the vegetable base.
Dark Chocolate Aim for a 85% Cacao solid dark chocolate for a rich and satisfying taste that will keep the sweet cravings at bay. Dark chocolate is a great substitute for the afternoon digestive biscuit, with a high level of antioxidants and proven health benefits for lowering heart disease. Take two to three squares into work to eliminate the temptation for more!

MONTENEGRO AFFORDABLE FUTURE IN EUROPE
o
wning a second home is no foreign concept to many spending their summer over at the North Coast and other spots throughout the year whether in Ain El Sokhna or Ras Sidr or Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh. Maintenance, expenses and even renting prices were up this last season 2017 which makes spending a summer locally amount to a budget that leaves us to start considering new choices. This month, Nayera Fadel reveals all about how to invest in Europe yet with an affordable rate, free residence and much more benefits through owning an apartment in Montenegro. I started doing my research over two years ago, prior to the currency devaluation. And a year ago I started putting my resources together and making the necessary connections to create a good opportunity for myself and in the process for others. I got further confirmation when I went to the embassy to pick up my passport learning that more Egyptians in summer 2017 have traveled to Montenegro than any other year. These are the few who know an opportunity is brewing and go there early on to make sure they are a part of it in some form or the other before it changes and it’s harder to get in. People go for different reasons and most of them said that it’s known to be a beautiful country with amazing nature and activities

for the summer season like no other country. It’s also got so much potential and it’s going to boom sooner than later so they’re trying to see what we can do to be a part of that. My reasons are similar as I found out that the real estate market in Montenegro is one of the more affordable in Europe, even to Egypt believe it or not. And owning a property in Montenegro now has benefits to it that in the long run could prove very smart to take advantage of with no delay. Given how circumstances have changed in Egypt in a drastic way in a matter of months, we have learned the lesson that we need to act fast in some instances or we will be left to struggle with the changes. The price of owning a studio or apartment in Montenegro is almost
half of what many of the North Coast projects in Egypt are now offering. And let’s not forget that we actually get a yearly renewable residency for being a property owner which after a few years becomes permanent. Montenegro adopted the Euro as its currency back in 2002 and its citizens were given in 2009 free travel within the EU Schengen zone, in 2010 it was recommended as a formal candidate to join the EU and in 2017 it joined the NATO as the first new member in a decade. Once it becomes part of the EU, owning a property then might not come at the competitive pricing available today and also getting a residency is not a sure thing since it will fall under the EU rules and regulations. I also personally find it a good investment in one’s future, giving yourself and family another option and many possibilities that might arise by owning a property in Europe that with our rapidly changing circumstances in Egypt could mean a lot of things. It could be a second income, or a new business opportunity or just anything we need it to be for us. Yet it starts by owning a property and opening a window of possibility that we need now more than ever. We can’t just go along with the program with prices going up and more projects making the best of the situation and us literally buying into it and staying in that cycle. I keep thinking of this analogy that might
not be a direct comparison, yet I find it so in terms of the changes happening in a country. It’s how the Syrians who came to Egypt due to the dire circumstances in their country and how they have been able to create businesses, competing and providing quality products with good customer service that makes customers keep going back. They utilized their strengths and talents and actually raised the bar. The times of change are upon us and we have to venture out and create our very own possibilities so that we open a gateway for opportunities to find us. Seizing an opportunity at the right time increases our chances to get in the flow of these changes rather than scream and shout our way through it. Life is short and we can make the best of it if we want to. We can act on ideas as they arise and leave the rest to happen as we move along. How something can evolve for us we will find out as we grasp the opportunity. I’ve found Montenegro to be an opportunity for me and I established myself there to be able to cater to individual requests knowing it will be varied. From someone wanting a studio to the upscale projects I can easily fulfill any request and ensure all the paperwork is done seamlessly. If you’d like to explore an opportunity then please email me at nayera@laniterra.com Budgets will vary, reasons will differ but what it all boils down to is I’ll give you the best advice as per your needs and definitely the best deal for you. In times of change, please be the change as well.
