ACHIEVING GREATNESS

ADELINE GUIDRY was ecstatic at being named Elementary School Student of the Year.

The Westdale Heights Academic Magnet School student believes her win is an achievable success that others can follow.

“It doesn’t matter how you start but how you finish,” she said. That’s a meaningful thought considering Adeline was placed in foster care and was taken care of by her new family in the second semester of first grade. The family adopted her in 2020.

Through all of this, school was a fun playground for Adeline. “I love school,” she said. “It’s just something enjoyable for me.”

At Westdale Heights, Adeline’s administrators welcomed her enthusiasm. “She’s kind. She’s caring, and she’s a leader,” said Westdale Heights Principal Alesha Cavanaugh. “She’s an excellent role model for her peers. We were just so proud and happy for her when she was named Student of the Year.”

Adeline believes that you can always turn things around and make them go the way you want. For her, this means becoming a veterinarian and opening a clinic with her sister. She hopes to inspire others her age to reach for their dreams and aspirations, no matter what life may throw their way.
