Setting-up is simple and quick, operation is intuitive and stress-free, servicing and maintenance is easy and high quality grain and straw is the result. Whether you choose the W330 or W440 model, you’re sure to have a combine you can be proud of. These lightweight machines deliver heavyweight performance within a compact format that allows the fitting of wider tyres, thus minimising soil compaction. Their compact dimensions are ideal for working in small fields and narrow lanes.

A great place to work The comfortable, quiet cab provides a stress-free environment for long working days in the field. Single-handed operation of all functions is made easy by the control interface integrated into the armrest, while the touch screen colour display is conveniently located on the cab corner post.

Enhanced threshing performance The Pre-Threshing Cylinder (PTC) raises threshing efficiency by pre-threshing the crop and smoothing the material flow into the main threshing cylinder, boosting capacity by up to 20 %. Standard on the W330, optional on the W440.

Versatile headers Available in a variety of widths from 3.90 to 6.30 m, our headers are equally proficient at cutting long and short crop material, thanks to the large diameter feeder auger and plastic/ nylon tines.

Powerful threshing cylinder The large 500 mm diameter, 8-rasp bar, cast iron threshing cylinder has a total width of 1110 mm (W330) or 1330 mm (W440). The combination of large diameter and high mass of the cylinder delivers excellent grain quality, performance and gentle material handling.

Power Separator Turning faster than the crop mat speed, the separator frees trapped grain by stretching and thinning the crop mat. The fingers can be adjusted according to crop conditions.

Proven walker system The stainless steel 5-walker (W330) or 6-walker (W440) system is robust, reliable and especially easy to maintain.

Unparalleled sieve area The high total sieve areas of the W330 and W440 minimise grain loss. Providing clean grain under all conditions, the adjustable sieve lamella prevent the unwanted passage of straw.

Exclusive re-thresher Unique in this class is the re-thresher. It reduces the volume of returns, thereby reducing the load on the threshing cylinder and increasing the combineâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s capacity.

Quality cut straw chopper The high speed (3900 rpm) chopper delivers best-in-class chopping and distribution and is available with either electric or manual vane tailboard for an even spread of the chopped material over the whole width of the cutting platform. The optional hydraulic chaff spreader delivers chaff to both sides of the combine.

6 | Headers | Feederhouse

Smooth and easy feeding Our W330 and W440 combines are available with a range of header widths. Connecting the header to the feederhouse can be simplified with the optional hydraulic multicoupler (W440). When working with larger headers on a W440 combine, faster ground speeds can be maintained on sloping terrain thanks to the lateral tilt capability of the feederhouse. The fixed feederhouse of the W330 is perfect for use with smaller headers where lateral adjustment is superfluous. Any stubborn blockages in the header or feederhouse can be quickly removed by activating the powerful reverser via the in-cab button. To protect the threshing cylinder from undesirable stone ingress, the header can be fitted with an optional stone dam. Our versatile W330 and W440 combines can handle a wide range of crops with ease. Purpose-built header trailers are available ex-factory to facilitate fast field-to-field changeovers and your John Deere dealer can also supply a variety of header solutions including rapeseed extensions with mechanical side knives.

Choice of headers Headers for the W330 are available as follows: 3.90 m, 4.20 m, 4.50 m, 4.80 m and 5.10 m. For the W440 the available headers are: 4.50 m, 5.10 m, 5.70 m and 6.30 m. All of our headers benefit from the following features: ■■Automatic Height Control with auto-levelling is standard on the PTC-equipped W440, optional on a non-PTC W440 ■■Feeding auger diameter of 350 mm ■■Robust wobble box knife mechanism ■■Screw-mounted knife sections ■■Feed fingers across the complete cutting table width ■■Fixed or foldable crop dividers ■■Fixed or quick-mounted crop lifters (optional) ■■Plastic/nylon reel tines Conveyor chain and front drum The heavy duty U-slat conveyor chain runs on an open-design front drum, so the bolted feeder chain slats cannot be damaged by a foreign object entering the feederhouse. Instead, it will be caught by the stone trap. 6-walker W440 combines are equipped with 3 chains and two slats to ensure reliable feeding across the entire 1330 mm width. 5-walker W330 combines feature 3 chains and one slat. The chain tension and position of the front drum are adjustable from the side of the feederhouse.

Large Service doors Two large service doors provide access to the conveyor chain and the threshing cylinder. On the PTC-equipped W440, the service doors also provide access to the PTC drum.

8 | Threshing unit

Smooth, efficient threshing Although the W330 and W440 are compact machines, they both benefit from a large separation area. Versatility is assured by the large diameter of the threshing cylinder, which smoothly threshes everything from small grain to corn. Choose between low-speed drive – ideal for all crops from small grain to rapeseed and corn – and high speed drive for regions where neither rapeseed nor corn are grown. Fitting and removing de-awning plates for harvesting barley is totally hassle-free. The concave of the pre-threshing cylinder (PTC) delivers 20 % extra threshing performance and can be heightadjusted independently of the PTC. The adjustment of the concave distance to the drum allows the matching of performance to the prevailing conditions: reducing the amount short straw in dry conditions (greater distance) and increasing capacity in wet conditions (less distance).

Threshing cylinder The large, 8 rasp bar, threshing cylinder with 500 mm diameter and a total width of 1110 mm (W330) or 1330 mm (W440) provides excellent grain quality and gentle material handling. The clearance to front and rear concaves can be adjusted from within the cab. It delivers unmatched threshing efficiency and capacity in this segment and is protected from stone damage by an effective stone trap.

Rear beater The large diameter (350 mm) rear beater strips the threshed straw mat from the cylinder/concave, slows it down and transitions it to the straw walkers. It provides consistent material flow. Below the rear beater a finger rake collects free grains from the straw mat that is reduced to a better aerated mass for the walkers.

All PTC and threshing cylinder settings and adjustments, including pre-threshing cylinder clearance, can be push button controlled from the cab.

Stainless steel walkers Efficient separation of any remaining grain from the crop material. 6.3 m2 separation area for the 6-walker W440, 4.8 m2 for the 5-walker W330.

Pre-Threshing Cylinder (PTC) Tough, but high yielding, hard to thresh conditions will benefit from the additional drum and active separation area of our PTC. The reduced angle between feederhouse and threshing concave accelerates, pre-threshes and smoothes crop flow to improve separation and grain quality is assured by the smooth paddle design. The load on the main concave is reduced because more grain is pre-separated in the PTC concave below the pre-thresher, resulting in up to 20 % performance increase.

Adjustable Power Separator The Power Separator improves separation in the rear part of the walkers. It turns faster than the crop mat speed, thus stretching and thinning the crop mat so that trapped grain is released, improving separation especially in wet harvesting conditions. The smooth cylinder design eliminates the risk of stringy crops being trapped around the Power Separator cylinder. Its fingers can be adjusted according to different conditions via an external lever, so that finger retraction times can be changed to avoid wrapping in rapeseed, beans and other long and sticky crops.

Proven Walker System Robust, reliable and easy to maintain, our stainless steel 6 4-step walkers (5 walkers in the W330) with their 18 cm walker steps, efficiently separate any remaining grain from the crop material. They provide the highest quality straw for baling, while requiring relatively low levels of power. Their separation performance can be enhanced by the optional Power Separator. Walker area for the W440 is 6.3 m2, while for the W330 it is 4.8 m2. Both deliver top quality grain separation even in high yield or wet conditions.

10 | Cleaning

Clean solutions Our W330 and W440 combines are equipped with highly efficient chaffer and sieve technology to ensure delivery ofÂ thoroughly cleaned grain to the tank. The large cleaning shoe, variable 4-blade fan and adjustable front and rear chaffer sections make certain that chaff is thoroughly separated from grain. The active tailing system re-threshes the grain above theÂ sieve area before distributing it evenly across the upper sieve, while reducing load on the threshing cylinder.

Largest sieve area in the power class With a high sieve area the W440 and W330 ensures low grain losses, even under high yield conditions. High longitudinal divider plates help maintain an even distribution when working across hillsides. They also allow varying the intensity of the cleaning air flow according to the nature of the crop material. This optimises cleaning shoe performance. The sieves can be quickly removed for end-of-season cleaning.

High performance sieves The performance of the cleaning shoe is enhanced by the manually adjustable rear chaffer sections on the W440 (fixed on the W330) which ensure constant air flow with stepless, in-cab speed adjustment and long, removable preparation floor segments that ensure a smooth transition to the chaffer. The special high performance sieves are easy to handle while reducing the amount of short straw from the lower sieves.

Active tailings return Unique in this class, our active tailings system re-threshes the grain above the sieve area before distributing it evenly across the upper sieve. This increases threshing capacity by reducing unnecessary load on the main threshing cylinder. The operator isÂ informed of the return system loading via the standard electronic return measurement device.

12 | Residue management | Grain tank

Quality grain and straw Our two speed (3900 rpm/2000 rpm) straw chopper available on W440 and W330 HD comfort chopper cuts short lengths of straw which are then spread evenly over the whole header width. It has 44 smooth knives and 45 adjustable counter blades. On the comfort chopper, chop to drop is operated via a convenient lever that adjusts the straw flap and engages/disengages the high density, high speed chopper, avoiding the need to change belts or switch clutches. The comfort chopper offers up to 4 ways to distribute chaff: into the swath, into the chopper, underneath swath and spread to both sides. The tailboard vanes can be adjusted manually or electrically (optional) from the cab. The hydraulic chaff spreader is optionally available for standard and comfort chopper. Because the grain and straw handling is so smooth, the high quality dropped straw is easy to bale. Adjustable straw rakes simplify windrow width adjustment, allowing the use of balers with narrow pick-ups.

Unrivalled grain tank capacity The large, completely enclosed grain tank of the W440 can hold up to 7600 l. It enables longer harvesting runs before unloading is necessary. The two adjustable sensors report 75 % and full tank level. After dark, grain tank lighting provides the operator with a view of the tank via the wide grain tank window in the cab’s rear bulkhead. Multiple access doors and a smooth interior make the tank very easy to clean. Seed producers without a PTC will appreciate that the cross augers can be removed for cleaning.

Unloading System The 105 l/s unloading rate of the closed unloading system on PTC equipped models can empty a full tank in only 76 seconds. Combines without PTC achieve a rate of 55 l/s. The unloading auger swings to a conveniently wide angle, making it easily visible from the cab. An alarm sounds to ensure that unloading functions only when the auger is in its highest position.

Adjustable vane tailboard Consistently equal straw distribution is assured by the vane tailboard, which can be adjusted either electrically from the comfort of the cab or manually at the tailboard. It allows you to change the spread width or compensate for side winds. The tailboard folds away very easily without any need for tools for driving with a header trailer, or for transport on public roads.

Grain sampling made easy Accessing grain samples for content monitoring on the W440 with PTC could not be simpler. It’s easy to check the high quality of grain from your John Deere combine via the dedicated access point.

Our straightforward approach to the design of the W330 and W440 combines extends to the spacious ergonomic cab. Both operator and instructor sit in comfort and there’s still plenty of space for a toolbox or refrigerator box. Superb visibility is complemented by controls that are grouped to provide intuitive operation and the colour, touch-screen display is conveniently mounted on the cab corner post. Excellent sound insulation limits intrusive noise to only 76 dB(A), while electric mirrors and the 3-way adjustable steering column provide a relaxed and healthy driving position for all operators. Operator comfort is assured by the suspended Grammer seat, heating and air-conditioning. The standard instructor seat also includes storage space for two water bottles.

Full-colour touch-screen display. Unique in this class. No other combines in this class can offer the convenience and refinement of a touch-screen colour display. The clear digital screen can be customised according to operator preferences to view all the necessary data and information concerning harvesting conditions and performance. You can also set alarms and warnings governing certain functions. The display is mounted in the ideal position on the cab corner post, easily reachable for touch-screen operation but not obstructing the view of the header. Upgrade your W330/W440 with JDLink Select: JDLink Select is the perfect entry-level telematics solution. It shows you the location of every machine on a map, so you see at a glance which machines are closer to the target customer, and track your machines’ hours since the working day began. JDLink Select is available as a kit from your John Deere dealer.

Machine supervision and control The display also measures the threshed area and threshing time used. It estimates the time required to finish the section. Most rotating shafts are equipped with sensors that warn the operator of speed variations, so that the operator can get the maximum out of the machine. Advanced users can even choose the speeds at which warnings should be activated. The screen can be configured to display only the information you require. The system records operating data that can then be transferred to your office computer via a USB stick.

Open for business Large service doors provide excellent access to all significant drive-line and crop-handling components. The entire clean grain handling system, for example, can be easily accessed for a simple and quick clean out at the end of the season. Preparation floor panels are individually removable. Both the W330 and W440 are equipped with a 3-speed transmission (top speed up to 25 km/h depending on legal regulations), and a 4-wheel drive system is available if you regularly encounter wet harvesting conditions. The tight turning radius make small field manoeuvring especially easy. To maintain around-the-clock productivity, our W330 and W440 combines have around-the-machine connections for bright, efficient work lights.

Large service doors Wherever you need access to the working components of the combine, there are large, wide-opening service doors. Lubrication banks and the two daily grease points are all within easy reach. A conveniently large storage box provides ample space for a toolbox, grease gun and oil can.

Engine compartment The Stage IV compliant 6-cylinder common rail engine uses the latest Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) technology to reduce exhaust emissions. There is safe, unobstructed access to the large engine compartment, radiator and cooling package. Cleaning the air filter, changing engine oil and hydraulic fluid and refuelling have also been made as convenient as possible. The fuel tank holds 350 l in the W330, 450 l in the W440.

Our W330 and W440 combines will work for 600 hours between oil changes and there are only two daily greasing points.
