LYING OUR MISSION To support the
future of the Denver/Boulder business community, raising up an ethical
marketplace for tomorrow, by creating both ethics
education and opportunities for
students and youth.

THE GOOD NEWS
The BBB Foundation bridges the gap between these statistics. Statistics collected from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Josephson Institute 2012 Reports Card on the Ethics of American Youth and the 2005 Rutgers Business School survey.
BOARD INITIATIVES THE BBB BOARD ESTABLISHED KEY INITIATIVES FOR 2015 AND BEYOND EXCEPTIONAL COMMITMENT FOR OUTSTANDING PROGRAMS The BBB Foundation is growing and gaining clarity by
fine-tuning the focus on ethics education and opportunities for students and youth. BBB Foundation is strengthening its commitment to expand internship programs, doubling scholarship awards, solidifying relationships with five new strategic partners and developing LIFT, a business ethics certification program that will be a game changer for ethics education and our future workforce. The internal and external theme this year is to bridge the
gap
between BBB’s current marketplace focus and BBB Foundation’s marketplace of tomorrow by carrying out the mission and vision of the BBB Foundation with zeal, purpose and integrity.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S LETTER As BBB serving Denver/Boulder works daily to foster a marketplace where buyers and sellers can trust each other, it has a marked interest in instilling these values in today’s youth. Understanding this link between today and tomorrow resulted in a pivotal year for the BBB Foundation, which made huge strides toward its mission to raise up an ethical marketplace for tomorrow by creating ethics education and opportunities for students and youth. In 2014 the Foundation: • Received the Adams County Education Consortium Partner of the Year Award for its SMARTS professional internship program • Doubled the amount of dollars it awarded to local students through its Student of Integrity Scholarship program • Increased impact by coupling the power of BBB’s business reach with five additional community education partners that understand the importance and urgency of instilling today’s youth with ethics and business acumen for tomorrow’s marketplace • Hosted a successful Torch Awards that honored both ethical businesses in our area as well as students who show great promise While all of these achievements are impressive, perhaps the greatest achievement of the Foundation and its dedicated Board of Directors was the development of the LIFT Business Ethics Certification Program, a workshop and project based learning curriculum that offers an introduction to business ethics and personal character. In 2015 the LIFT program is expected to reach between 700 and 1,000 students in the greater Denver area. In 2016, for the full launch of LIFT, we are expecting to reach as many as 1,500 students. By 2020, we aim to have a meaningful presence in the majority of middle and high schools aiding at-risk youth in the 12-county district that BBB Denver/Boulder serves. These accomplishments would not be possible without strong support from the business community, a forward-thinking Board of Directors, and a dedicated staff. In closing, I want to express my gratitude to all foundation supporters, donors, community partners and BBB Accredited Businesses for your ongoing dedication to our collective mission of advancing marketplace trust. On behalf of the BBB Foundation Board and staff, I am honored to present this year’s Annual Report.

COMMUNITY PARTNERS
2014 brought great strides in the Foundations’s ethics program development. A committee of education and business leaders came together to tackle the issues of how to incorporate ethics education as a change agent, into a standardized, test-driven environment. LIFT, a multi-week program, teaches youth the importance of integrity and ethics and how both of those concepts affect them currently and in their future. The workshop and project based learning curriculum offers an introduction to business ethics as well as personal character lessons. These lessons focus on topics like responsibility, character, values, and development, and the program concludes with each student presenting their project and signing the LIFT Commitment to Conduct.
