EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S LETTER As BBB Denver/Boulder works daily to foster a marketplace where buyers and sellers can trust each other, it has a strong interest in instilling these values in today’s youth and that’s where the BBB Foundation is making its mark in the Colorado communities we serve. The Foundation made significant strides in 2015 to advance its mission: “Support the future of the Denver/Boulder business community, raising up an ethical marketplace for tomorrow, by creating both ethics education and opportunities for students and youth.” To that end, the LIFT Business Ethics Certification program was launched last fall. In addition to a successful pilot launch of a new youth program, the Foundation realized growth in its other program areas. In 2015 the Foundation: • Launched the LIFT Business Ethics Certification program to 350 students during the fall semester. • Increased the amount of dollars it awarded to local students through its Student of Integrity Scholarship program by nearly 50%. • Increased impact by coupling the power of BBB’s business reach with four community education partners that understand the importance and urgency of instilling today’s youth with ethics and business acumen for tomorrow’s marketplace. • Placed high school students into impactful internships through the SMARTS program during the spring semester. The Foundation is on the path to continue this growth and subsequent youth impact. In 2016, for the full launch of LIFT, we are expecting to reach 1,000 students. The program has been so successful in its fledgling year that the Council of Better Business Bureaus and other BBBs around the country are taking an interest. Our hope is to see a nationwide impact in the coming years. Continued success with LIFT and our other programs in the coming year would not be possible without strong support from the business community, a forward-thinking Board of Directors, and a dedicated staff. In closing, I want to express my gratitude to all Foundation supporters, donors, community partners, volunteers and BBB Accredited Businesses for your ongoing dedication to our collective mission of advancing marketplace trust. On behalf of the BBB Board and staff, I am honored to present this year’s Annual Report.

COMMUNITY PARTNERS
The BBB Foundation is thrilled to have launched the pilot semester of the LIFT program and have 14 classes teach the LIFT Business Ethics Certification program during the fall semester of 2015. Students were required to complete 180 minutes of workshops covering three approaches and five steps to ethical decision-making, discuss scenarios using the different approaches and steps, and finally, complete a case study project and present their conclusion in class. More than 60% of students successfully completed certification by passing the requirements set forth in the rubric and signing the pledge to uphold the LIFT Commitment to Conduct in their school, work and personal life. Six schools and 14 classrooms facilitated the program through our community partners. 2015 schools included: • Gateway High School • Lester R Arnold High School • South High School • Pinnacle Charter School • West Leadership Academy • North High School “We’ve had a tremendous response from the students and schools where we have facilitated the LIFT ethics program. We work with many of the higher need schools in the Denver Metro area, so to see these students engaged and gaining important high level critical thinking skills is rewarding.” —Kelsey Glass, Curriculum and Staff Development Manager, Youth Career Development Services, Goodwill Industries of Denver 4 | 2 0 1 5 B B B D E N V E R / B O U L D E R F O U N D AT I O N A N N U A L R E P O R T

SMARTS Program A PROFESSIONAL MENTORING INTERNSHIP
Since 2011 the SMARTS program has provided students who are at risk of being left behind, due to life and/or academic challenges, with a path to success through a workforce readiness curriculum. The curriculum program lasts 10 weeks and is taught while concurrently completing 80—100 hours of an internship in a field of their interest. Given the students’ circumstances, the majority of these juniors and seniors are preparing to enter the workforce or a vocational education field after high school and many are offered entry-level positions at the place of which they do their internship. Students who complete the program are also eligible for the SMARTS Scholarship.

MEET KAMIA “Because of tough times in my family, I won’t have any financial support from my relatives for college. For a while, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to afford any type of postsecondary education, especially because the field I have a passion for—aviation—is such an expensive field of work. However, the BBB Foundation Student of Integrity Scholarship has given me a huge jumpstart towards my college education. I have plans to go to Metropolitan State University in Denver and to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Science, in hopes of becoming an airline captain. I now have a huge beam of hope for the future that I may not have had without the BBB Foundation scholarship program. It is truly amazing to be named a Student of Integrity.” Kamia Bradley, Denver East High School, Grand Prize Student of Integrity Scholar
