News from Broadbridge Heath Football Club
The 2015-2016 season has started quite well, the first team who play in the Southern Combination League Premier Division are currently mid-table in the division and have already played several of this season's promotion hopefuls including Horsham, Pagham, Newhaven and Horsham YMCA. Player availability has been a problem due to injury, illness, holiday and work commitments and Steve Painter the first team manager has already played 29 different players including two 16 year olds who stepped up from BBH Youth and did very well on their senior debuts. The Junior section are running 10 teams this season but we are desperately seeking new helpers and if you can spare some time to help we would really like to hear from you. One position we do urgently need to fill is that of U14 manager and coach for a second U14 team that we are running in the South Surrey Youth league. Away from the playing field officials of BBHFC have been working closely with our Parish Council and Horsham District Council on the new facilities for BBHFC on land south of the existing Leisure Centre. The facilities will be provided as part of the Section 106 agreement and they include a new pavilion and sports pitches where we hope to have at least two full size pitches, another 9x9 pitch and the potential of further junior pitches. With HDC hoping to make a decision on the future of the Leisure Centre very soon, we too hope we can soon finalise the plans for the new playing fields. First Team Fixtures: Tues 3rd November: Home v Eastbourne Town, K.O. 7.45 Sat 7th November: Home v Hailsham Town, K.O. 3.00 Sat 14th November: Home v Worthing United, K.O.3.00

Shelley Primary School: A busy start to the Autumn Term Children at Shelley have been engaged in various exciting activities so far this term. These have included Bikeability training for Y6 children, trips to Pulborough Brooks Nature Reserve and Seven Sisters Country Park, and ‘No Pens Day Wednesday’ which meant the whole school, teachers included, put down our pens for the day and found different ways to learn! Alongside these events, we have also found time for two very different but equally important community fundraisers. Firstly, our Y5 pupils led an uplifting and thoughtful Harvest Assembly at the end of September. Children from across the school brought donations and we are pleased to report that these were very gratefully received by Horsham Foodbank. Secondly, our own Friends of Shelley School (FOSS) ran our annual Sponsored Walk on the school field at the beginning of October. This is a great event for friends and family to come along and support the children. The FOSS team are now looking forward to the next event, the Christmas Bazaar! Please put the date into your diary – 5.00 until 7.00pm on Friday 27th November, all are welcome and we are sure it will be a fantastic start to the Christmas festivities! 6

SCARECROW WEEKEND BIG SUCCESS The Gala Association Scarecrow Weekend was a well-supported event that had many enthusiastic people following the trail maps around the village. They were rewarded for their efforts by an amazing display of scarecrows on the theme of TV/Film. One of the judges said, “The entrants were of a very high standard, which made judging very difficult. Well done everyone!” It appears that entrants enjoyed making the scarecrows and there were many positive comments and happy faces from those that visited the exhibits. The individual winners, Emilia and Layton Hazelgrove certainly went the extra mile with their Ghostbusters theme; second place went to a Dorothy and third to the Rugby scarecrow. The Clubs/Organisations winners were 1st BBH Beavers with Bob the Minion surrounded by lots of small minions, second was Homer Simpson by 1st BBH Scouts and third Peruvian Blue by BBH Football Club Juniors. The Gala Association would like to congratulate everyone who participated in a very successful weekend. Well done Broadbridge Heath! Report by Paul Muggeridge. 7

The Financial Fairy Godmother. Do You Have A Dinosaur? I was recently working with a new client whose pension with profits fund had a declared annual bonus of 0.1% per year. There could have been an additional terminal bonus paid at the end, but with interest rates at nearly zero, it’s simply not good enough if your pension fund is consistently making less than your savings account. So what had happened? He had a “Dinosaur” fund. Once strong, respected and even dominant, the fund was now weak, underperforming and had been overtaken by newer, fitter funds. And there are many more funds just like this. Remember the dotcom bubble, telecom shares and more recently Greece and China? Relying on one investment type or one part of the world can also affect performance when events go against you. On top of this, the charges applied to some older plans can be more expensive than is necessary these days, which will hold performance back. So what can you do? • Check that your circumstances and goals still need that type of fund or plan • Spread your pension or investment across different funds in different investment markets • Have regular reviews monitoring your funds Sometimes people put off getting professional financial advice because it costs. Well, bearing in mind in 2012 the average pension saver (aged 54) had a retirement fund of £74,544 (advised) compared with £37,277 without an adviser*, it seems that the advice can pay for itself. To track down your dinosaurs, book a free no-obligation initial consultation. We’d be happy to help. The content of this article is for information only and must not be considered as financial advice. We always recommend that you seek independent financial advice before making any financial decisions. *Daily Express 9 Sept 2012
