Broadbridge Heath Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers. Sharon Newman Guide and Ranger leader and District 2nd Broadbridge Heath Brownies I love Brownies. I am a Sixer, I get lots of badges so my Nan can put them on my Brownie top. I like to meet my friends, some are from my school. We sing at Brownies. Sometimes we go out to places like Horsham and Warnham Nature Reserve and I go in my friend's cars. By Bethany aged 8 2ND Broadbridge Heath Guides and Rangers Camp Report At camp we work towards a coloured stripe and on our first camp the camp scarf, which we sew the stripes on. Three of us were working towards our 1st stripe (red) and the others towards the camp scarf. The favourite part of the scarf challenge was making the woggles out of natural materials and the best part of the red stripe challenge was the agility badge. The favourite meal that we made was on the first night and it was a rice dish, although the lunches and breakfasts were delicious! We also enjoyed cooking on the campfire. At night we all gathered around the campfire, toasted marshmallows and sang campfire songs. We all loved to sleep outdoors in the tents and it was a shame when it was over. 2nd Broadbridge Heath Guides

Paddy’s Page Revd. Paddy Beresford Vicar of St. John’s Church. Church Road, RH12 3LD 01403 274114 ——————————— Introducing: Revd. Kate Bailey Paddy is away so we introduce the newly appointed Curate at St John’s. My name is Kate Bailey. I have moved into the Wickhurst Green development together with my husband John and our youngest son, Chris (aged 23). We have three more grown up children and four grandchildren – some living locally, and some further afield. It is a joy to be able to see some of my grandchildren on a regular basis and watch them growing up. Growing is something we all do: towards adulthood when we are children, and towards maturity (hopefully) throughout our lives. I have been training for the past two years at the South East Institute of Theological Education. It’s been hard mixing academic training in with practical teaching, as well as running a home. And now, to my own astonishment, I am the Reverend Kate Bailey. It still sounds very strange to me, because I haven’t yet grown into this title. When I tried my first new clerical shirt on, somebody different wearing a dog collar looked back at me from the mirror. I believe that is what it may have been like for the disciples who met Jesus after his Resurrection. He looked different, but of course He was the same, and they eventually recognized Him. Just as I looked into the mirror and saw the dog collar before I saw my own face staring back at me, those disciples must have looked at His hands, seen the scars and then realised who He was. Change is part of growing – I am growing into this new person the Bishop has just ordained me to become. And growing is what our parish is doing – as new houses go up all around us, and new people come into our community. I am looking forward to getting to know my neighbours on the various parts of the new development as well as those who have been here for much longer. Unity is what we strive for, as we seek to help each other and as we strive to show God’s love to those with whom we come into contact. It’s both exciting and scary in equal parts. I don’t know people here yet, but I know that as a Deacon I am to serve the community and make the love of God visible to all. It’s a daunting charge, but I am comforted by the knowledge that I will not be doing this in my own strength, but by the grace and power of God. I pray for His Holy Spirit to aid me in my task, and I ask for your prayers too, as I step into this new role. Kate Bailey

BBH Mag Sport News from local sports clubs. If you would like to publish your sports news in this magazine please contact the Editor by email: bbh.mag@gmail.com FOOTBALL
Broadbridge Heath FC We may not have a trophy cabinet yet or a pavilion to put the cabinet in but Heath have been picking up some silverware during the close season. The First team won a trophy for finishing the 2015-2016 season in third place in the Southern Combination Premier Division Respect Merit Table, the awards are based on the disciplinary points a team gets during the season. The trophy and a cheque for £100 was presented to Club Chairman Keith Soane at the Leagues Presentation Evening on the 4th June. A shame the League don't also give an award, and of course the cash, to the Reserve Divisions as Heath Reserves finished top of the Respect Merit Table for the Reserve Section West. Elsewhere the under 11s won two football tournaments in three weeks, the first a five-aside tournament at Shoreham and then a six-a-side tournament at Lancing. In both occasions teams had come from far and wide to participate, the standard of football was very good and the games very competitive. At Shoreham the boys only lost one game to Hollingbury Hawks in their group stage but had their revenge over the Brighton based team by defeating them 1-0 in the final. At Lancing they came through their group stage unbeaten, then had wins against Patcham B in the quarterfinal, Hollingbury Hawks in the semi-final before defeating Patcham A in the final by 1-0. The team also got news that they had been promoted to the Sussex Sunday Youth League division one next season. It may still only be mid-June at the time of writing but the new season fixtures will soon be published and the first, reserve and under 18 teams are already in pre-season training with over 40 players attending the first session. Off the field the seniors and juniors were very pleased to hear that Countryside have renewed their sponsorship of the Club for the 2016-2017 season. Senior Chairman Keith Soane said We are delighted that Countryside have agreed to renew their commitment to the club by becoming First Team and Junior Club sponsors for the new season. He added "Without the support of sponsors like Countryside it would be very difficult to sustain the level of football we do at Broadbridge Heath FC".

BBH Mag SPORT CRICKET
Broadbridge Heath Cricket Club Byfleets Lane Broadbridge Heath West Sussex RH12 3PB As the weather continues to provide all four seasons in a week, so the Cricket 1st XI have also found it difficult to settle into any kind of routine. After finishing a strong third in Div 2 for the last two years, they have yet to win a game this season – and we are nearly half-way through the season ! However, they are not too far behind many of the other sides (promotion is now a forgotten dream) so we are hoping that the second half of the season will bring better fortune. Meanwhile, the 2nd XI are having a completely different season. After promotion in both the last two years, they are now second in Div 5 and really doing well. You may remember that Neil Charman had a good indoor league season and thankfully he has now carried-on that form outdoors too. You may also remember that our Groundsman, David Bridges, advised that we were going to have a good summer this year. He’ll tell you that it has been pretty good so far (warm anyway) but we are unconvinced. Fortunately, he’s a much better groundsman than weather forecaster so we are really going to miss him when he steps down at the end of the season. If there is anyone out there who would like to look after our square, supported by a number of groundstaff members, then please let our Chairman Tim Wells know on 07740101983. Don’t forget to keep in touch at the Club’s website and on Facebook. http://broadbridgeheath.play-cricket.com/home/home.asp Finally, if you are planning a Children’s Birthday Party why not consider hiring our refurbished Clubhouse. We are able to offer good parking and wonderful facilities for outdoor summer games in a lovely safe environment. If you would like to know more, please contact Colin Case at colincase@aol.com. The Financial Fairy Godmother of Broadbridge Heath How to manage your money when you’re just starting out Don’t wish you’d started earlier. Start young. I’m not that old, but at the risk of sounding like my mother, my advice to the younger generation would be... Know what you spend it on. It’s so important to budget for the things you would like to have, but debit cards make it too easy to spend money without thinking about it. As financial advisers, we calculate the income and outgoings for lots of people. Many of them are shocked about how much they spend with nothing to show for it, and how little is left over afterwards. Take advice whenever your life changes. It’s wise to seek financial advice each time you go through a major life change, such as buying a house or having a baby. To make good decisions, you need to have all your options on the table. As advisers, the most important role we play is a sounding board for your ideas. Live within your means. It can be so tempting to buy things on credit, but it can take years to clear the debt. I have sometimes been envious of how much people seem to have, but that went when I found out how much they owed on their credit cards! Start saving young. It’s been said before, but it’s good to start saving early. Whether saving for a house or retirement, it is so much easier to put a little away over a long period than it is to put a lot away over a short period.
