It’s taken me a long time to enter into the social media world with enthusiasm; in the Wild West cowboys unwisely reaching for a gun were called “trigger happy”, today we whip out our smart-phones to record the food on our plate or a funny moment. Sharing is an excellent and meaningful aspect of social media - yet we can capture moments before we properly experience them ourselves. At some events, we video the action, yet fail to take it all in because we’re concentrating on the best angles. St Paul in the Bible seems an unlikely commentator on mobile technology, but he offers some significant thoughts in his letter to the Christians at Corinth. He said that in this life we perceive God as though “through a lens dimly” but one day in heaven we will see Him "face to face”. For Paul, looking through some form of ancient glasses because his sight was failing, was vastly inferior to taking that glass away and with renewed eyes standing face to face in direct contact with God. As we use our mobile devices, there’s a screen between us and the object we’re taking, we choose to see through that screen and miss out on the ability to be totally present in the experience. We, of course, have the photos to show others but the trade-off was that we missed being fully “in” an unrepeatable moment ourselves - was it worth it? So before you automatically reach for the smart-phone - enjoy the moment yourself; focus and feel before you Facebook, try before you Tweet. Imbibe before you Instagram.

BBH Mag Sport News from local sports clubs. If you would like to publish your sports news in this magazine please contact the Editor by email: bbh.mag@gmail.com FOOTBALL
Broadbridge Heath FC The new season has started and the first team have their first win under their belt following a 4-3 home win over Littlehampton Town in the first game of the season in the Southern Combination Football League Premier Division. Manager Steve Painter has been in charge of team affairs for six seasons now and during that period the team have won two promotions, reached four cup semi-finals and one final; each year there's been a gradual improvement in the quality of player's and in the team's performance. This season's squad looks even stronger than last season with the capture of Joe Holvey (Loxwood), Marlon Maxwell (Oakwood), Ollie Moore (Loxwood) and Jamie Liddell, names that some of our supporters will remember from the past as all four also played for our Youth teams before going elsewhere to play their football. On the downside there have already been two injuries to players needing hospital treatment, Ollie Moore was stretchered off at Chipstead with a suspected broken jaw and cheekbone and in the Littlehampton match Michael Chester fractured and dislocated his finger, not ideal for a goalkeeper. We obviously wish them both a speedy recovery. Elsewhere the Under 11’s have had a successful summer, they entered three small sided tournaments and won all three, the tournaments were held at Shoreham, Lancing and at Chesworth Rovers, Horsham against some very strong teams from across the county. The team have also heard that next season they will be playing in the top division in the Sussex Sunday Youth League which gives the players an opportunity to play against some very good teams at that age group. The Under 15s are running two teams this season in the Horsham Youth League and we are desperate for helpers with these teams so if you can spare some time please do get in contact with us. You may have noticed that work has finally started on the clubs new facilities on the land immediately south of the existing Leisure Centre, when complete this will be the home for seniors, juniors and veteran players and allow us to develop the club further with girls, ladies and an academy for the youngsters all things we would like to do in the future. Why not come on down and support the team. First team home fixtures: Sat 27 Aug, Arundel, Kick Off 3pm Sat 3 Sep, Haywards Heath Town. Kick Off 3pm Sat 10 Sep, Crowborough Athletic, Kick Off 3pm (FA Vase) Sat 13 Sep, Horsham YMCA, Kick Off 7.45pm 8

BBH Mag SPORT CRICKET
Broadbridge Heath Cricket Club Byfleets Lane Broadbridge Heath West Sussex RH12 3PB Well, at the least the weather has improved and with it, so has our 1st XI’s cricket. They look as though they have turned their season around just in time and put enough wins together to avoid relegation in this disappointing season. With three games to go, I reckon that one more win will see them safe but with two of the games against top sides going for promotion it’s still going to be tough. After finishing third in the last two seasons, captain Jordan Ruff is disappointed with this year’s performances, especially as it’s the bowlers who have kept the side competitive, despite the regular loss of Fred Bridges to the England Disability squad. Jordan himself is hoping his own batting form returns for the remaining three games. After two successive promotions, the 2nd’s have yoyo’d up and down Division 5 and skipper Ian Stocker has used 28 players whose ages have ranged from 17 to 66 ! After a really good start they were on the slide until a great win on Saturday 6th August stopped the rot. The division is so wide open that with 3 games to go, relegation or promotion is still open for many sides – including us! In our social matches, during July we had a fabulous match day with our President Alan Lord’s XI and also a commemorative match against Kingston Methodists in honour of a long-time player, committee member and Club servant, Bill Woodford who died earlier. Many will remember that Bill and Janet lived in Corsletts Avenue for many, many years before moving to Horsham. A family memorial match is also being played at the Top Common on 3rd September.
Cats Homing Show: Cats Protection Horsham & District Branch will be holding a Homing Show at Broadbridge Heath Village Centre, Wickhurst Lane from 11am - 2pm. Why not come along and meet the cats looking for new homes - our fosterers know all about their characters so we can find the most suitable match for you. Refreshments will be available, plus there will be other cat related goodies on sale. Entry is free but donations (including cat food & litter) will be warmly received.

The Financial Fairy Godmother of Broadbridge Heath
Rise of the female On 11 July 2016, Theresa May was appointed as the second female Prime Minister in the UK. This may seem astonishing when you consider we have been electing Prime Ministers since the 18th Century – but perhaps not so surprising when you remember that women were only given the right to vote in 1918, and even then, only women over the age of 30. But it’s not just the political forum where females are a rarity... The business world is changing In 2010, Government-appointed Lord Davies of Abersoch found that women were included in only 12.5% of the boards of FTSE 100 companies – a small increase since 9.4% in 2004. Even though recent figures show that women are still paid less than men in 90% of sectors1, data from 2013 showed that 41% of women earned more than their other half, up from an estimated 26% two decades ago2. The percentage of women in the Independent Financial Adviser sector is rumoured to be less than 10%. In a sector dominated by men in grey suits, women (and many men) prefer a female adviser. So why not talk to one of those rare female IFAs – the Financial Fairy Godmother! For a free initial consultation about any financial matters, please call me on 01403 288078. 1 gov.uk ‘Opportunities and outcomes in education and work: Gender effects’ 17 November 2015 2 The Telegraph 18 July 2013
