WELCOME to Minnesota Dear FEW Attendee, Welcome to the 33rd annual International Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo, an event produced by Ethanol Producer Magazine and organized by BBI International. We’re delighted to be back in Minneapolis, this event’s unofficial home base. For the second time in as many years we’ve co-located the National Advanced Biofuels Conference alongside the FEW, fully aware that many of the key constituencies of this conference work in multiple established and emerging biofuel markets. Together with Monday’s Ethanol 101 program and an ethanol plant tour on Thursday, these four days are rich in biofuels content. We urge you to capitalize on this opportunity and make the most of your time at the conference. Set alongside the rich technical content is an expo loaded with the industry’s best service, technology and input providers. We urge you to bring them the challenges and opportunities you are facing and considering at your plant. They are eager to help you. Producer turnout continues to be the FEW’s calling card. This year we’re joined by over 500 professionals who spend their working lives in ethanol, biodiesel or other advanced biofuel production facilities. We’re gratified and humbled that the industry continues to make the FEW a part of its collective professional year.

A very sincere thank you to POET Biorefining – Lake Crystal for opening their doors to our tour group on Thursday. Many working professionals toured their very first ethanol plant while on an FEW plant tour and we’re grateful to be able to offer the experience again this year.

THINGS TO KNOW WELCOME Welcome to the 33rd annual International Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Now in its 33rd year, the FEW provides the global ethanol industry with cutting-edge content and unparalleled networking opportunities in a dynamic business-to-business environment. The FEW is the largest, longest running ethanol conference in the world—and the only event powered by Ethanol Producer Magazine. From its inception, the mission of the event has remained constant: The FEW delivers timely presentations with a strong focus on commercial-scale ethanol production – from quality control and yield maximization to regulatory compliance and fiscal management. The FEW is also the ethanol industry’s premier forum for unveiling new technologies and research findings. The program extensively covers cellulosic ethanol while remaining committed to optimizing existing grain ethanol operations. Welcome to the 7th annual National Advanced Biofuels Conference & Expo at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Produced by BBI International, this national event will feature the world of advanced biofuels and biobased chemicals—technology scaleup, project finance, policy, national markets and more—with a core focus on the industrial, petroleum and agribusiness alliances defining the national advanced biofuels industry. With a vertically integrated program and audience, the National Advanced Biofuels Conference & Expo is tailored for industry professionals engaged in producing, developing and deploying advanced biofuels including cellulosic ethanol, biobased platform chemicals, polymers and other renewable molecules that have the potential to meet or exceed the performance of petroleumderived products. Ethanol 101 will serve as a one day in-depth survey of the history, science, production and market basics of the ethanol industry. Populated by some of the industry’s most recognized professionals, this seminar will serve not only to bring you or your new employee up to speed on “must know” information about the ethanol industry, but will also provide a forum to meet respected industry representatives and network with them and their fellow seminar attendees. 10

Ironically, the latest breakthrough in the field of energy, is a field. While most innovation begins with the seed of an idea, the greatest advance in the making of ethanol starts with a seed. The first corn seed technology specifically developed to increase the efficiency of ethanol production, Enogen® corn can reduce costs by up to 10% and helps generate more ethanol per bushel than any corn feedstock ever grown. Recently named AgriMarketing’s Product of the Year, Enogen is definitely making waves in the field of energy.
