BRIDGECLIMB A unique view of Sydney awaits on the climb of your life...
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a Sydney icon and a part of city life. Since 1932, it has been a symbol of Australia known the world over, and an important feature of the spectacular New Year’s Eve firework display. With its coathanger-like structure stretched across the beautiful natural harbour, Sydneysiders have driven it, walked it and sailed under it for years to travel between North Sydney and the CBD.
You can’t get the same view of Sydney and beyond without sprouting wings, so get to the top and take in the views of the harbour, the CBD, the beaches and the surrounding region.
With an arch length of 503 metres and the top of the arch at 134 metres above sea level, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is enormous, and chances are it will inadvertently appear in one or two of your holiday snaps – which isn’t a bad thing. Whether sparkling in the evening or clouded in fog on an early morning, the bridge is a marvel to look at any time of the day.
3. Strike A Pose
If looking at the Sydney Harbour Bridge just isn’t enough and you want to get close enough to feel its smooth steel in your hands, you can climb it. BridgeClimb has been available since 1998, and it has become one of the top must-dos when visiting Sydney. With a range of climbs available throughout the day, including Twilight, Night, Dawn and Day, it’s an unforgettable feeling once you reach the top.

“IF BRITISH BALLS DID THE HAKA WE’D LOOK SOMETHING LIKE THIS”
WELCOME TO THE 2015 RUGBY WORLD CUP...
In true spirit of the world cup BBM has got a little roudy and decided to go back to its original routes of being a dirty mouthed hooligan in order to keep you entertained and encourage you to get down to your local boozer wherever in Australia that might be to cheer on your team at stupid o’clock in the morning with fellow Rugby fans from around the world. Be proud of your team and make the most of this rare opportunity to head into work rather merry!
“I sent a player off in the first minute of a match today for deliberate handball.” He said, “You haven’t got a fucking clue what you’re doing, ref.” I said, “That’s what they all say... right lads, scrum down.” 8
www.bbmlive.com
RUGBY WORLD CUP
The Cross v The Dragon The English claimed they were robbed. The Welsh couldn’t stop sharing images of a firebreathing dragon over Twickenham Stadium. Yes, one of the most anticipated games of the 2015 Rugby World Cup ended as we all expected – supporters of both sides making tits of themselves on social media. The game on Saturday 26th September confirmed three things: one) The English are bad losers. 2) The Welsh are even uglier winners. And 3) The rivalry between the two sides is as ridiculous as ever. Even the royal family couldn’t escape the divide, with Wills rooting for Wales and Hazza supporting the English. Rugby being rugby, the aggression stayed predominantly on the pitch (how many bloodied and bruised men had to be driven off the pitch again?) and online, where we can all hide behind our screens in dark rooms. Should England face Wales in UEFA Euro 2016, then we’re in trouble.
10
www.bbmlive.com
What’s A Bit Of Banter Between Enemies? It was Rugby Football Union secretary, Dudley Wood, who said: “The relationship between the Welsh and the English is based on trust and understanding. They don’t trust us and we don’t understand them.” But it’s not just England and Wales that enjoy toing and froing with the banter. Let’s face it; pretty much everyone has it in for England, whether it’s in sport, war or the Eurovision Song Contest. After England’s defeat against the Welsh, All Blacks hooker, Keven Mealamu, expressed his delight at being kept awake all night due to the celebrations while they were staying in Cardiff, and Dimitri Szarzewski of France actually said that “nobody was disappointed for the English.” That’ll put a rose thorn in their side.
If Other Nations Did The Haka As a traditional war dance, you could say that New Zealand have an unfair advantage performing the Haka before every game. To even the playing field, here are our ideas for how a few other nations could take on the Haka. ENGLAND The English team will stand in line in a queue. They’ll then moan about queuing. They’ll then moan about the weather. This goes on for 80 minutes and they end up missing the game. SCOTLAND The Scots turn up in kilts with their faces painted like William Wallace. Bagpipes are played badly by ginger spotty kids with glasses and Alasdair Strokosch launches a 20-foot caber into the opposing team. WALES A dance that would probably be vetoed by the RSPCA, the Welsh team ride in on sheep, blaring Tom Jones from speakers nicked from Cardiff Revs.
CANADA Half of the Canadians will sing their national anthem, ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’ by Shania Twain, in French and the other half in American English. ITALY The Italians wrap the opposing team in spaghetti and boil them in a vat of olive oil before driving off in Lamborghinis.
A Spot Of Interbreeding
After the Welsh stormed the last 20 minutes of their match against England to crush them 2528, many English supporters rushed to argue that the Welsh team had an unfair advantage. Looking at the Welsh squad, it turns out nine of the 31 players selected are, in fact, English. The lads guilty of such treachery include Aaron Jarvis from Exeter, George North from King’s Lynn and Alex Cuthbert from Gloucester. However, it doesn’t stop there, with Toby Faletau hailing from Tonga and James King all the way from Australia!
USA The Americans will turn up late, not know half of the countries they’re competing against and need to lie down.
World Rugby’s eligibility rules mean that players could choose to play for a country because they moved there when they were young, or it’s the birthplace of their mother, father or grandparents.
FRANCE The French team will hand out baguettes and cheese to the crowd, before slurring obscenities to the officials telling them to get on with it.
With history as it is, this means that 99 per cent of players in the Southern Hemisphere qualify to play for England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Although why they’d want to is beyond us.

At Little Big Sugar Salt, you get the best of both worlds. There are hearty servings of slow braised pork hock with egg and Swiss cheese in the Governor R. Swanson for $19, as well as the health-conscious but equally scrumptious Bowl Of Health filled to the brim with avocado, spinach, beetroot, mushrooms and a poached egg for $17. And, of course, there’s the essential for any city café: acai. With spiced granola made in house, coconut yoghurt, pomegranate and fresh fruit, it’s like summer in a bowl for $17. If you’re feeling extra hungry, you can add sides like avocado or bacon (ooh – naughty!) for $4.
Review: Little Big Sugar Salt The name must be ironic, because there really isn’t much of either. With summer just around the corner, the healthier food we can stuff ourselves with the better – but we don’t want to substitute taste for a smaller waistline.
Like any self-respecting Melbourne café, these healthy lunches can be ordered with a cup of tell-the-whole-world-about-it coffee, made with almond milk they make themselves in-house – as if they weren’t perfect enough already. 385 Victoria Street, Abbotsford, Melbourne www.lbsscafe.com

PERTH
Perth Street Art Tour Perth has been hit by street art frenzy for the last couple of years, and in various areas of the city you can find artworks by local and international artists that turn Perth into an outdoor gallery.
Grand Lane Light Lockers Hidden near the heart of the city, the Grand Lane at Barrack Street has a collection of Perth’s best 2D and 3D street artworks. Over 30 artists such as Jacqueline Ball and Tom Freeman have been commissioned to display their works at the Light Lockers since its first instalment in 2011, with a variety of subject matters including patriotism and mental health.
Parry Lane As the centre of culture and entertainment, Northbridge has quite a vast collection of street art, most of which are centred at Parry Lane. The works cover a range of themes related to everyday urban life, featuring artists such as Daek Williams, Keiron Broadhurst, and The Yok. One of the most touching works displayed is a tribute to late cricketer Phillip Hughes, painted by graphic designer Aidan Garnett who crafted the mural in memory of a good friend of his who was a huge cricket fan.
It may not be on the street per se, but the mural to Heath Ledger as The Joker in the bar and lounge of The Backlot is worth heading inside for. Painted by Ledger’s close friend, Vincent Fantauzzo, the mural portrays the beloved actor in his best known role, and is aimed to inspire local filmmakers “to reach for the heights”.

EXPAT INTERVIEW
HEALTHCARE AUSTRALIA (HCA)
If you want to work and travel in Australia, agency nursing is one of the most fulfilling areas. To explain why, Rhiannon Biss tells all about the experiences working in Australia has given her. What’s your name and where do you call home? My name is Rhiannon and I will always call true home England but at the moment I am living in Newtown in Sydney and I love it! What visa are you currently on in Australia? I’m on my second working holiday visa at the moment but I’m already taking steps to apply for a more permanent visa this year. What is your nursing specialty? I have a background in Respiratory Medicine and Cystic Fibrosis, but at the moment I am going to all specialties that Sydney can offer. What hospital and department are you working in currently? I work at Saint Vincent’s hospital in Darlinghurst and I go to every single ward, every department. Are there any particular nursing experiences you’ve had that stand out for you in Australia? Yes, at the hospital I am working at currently, they’ve actually sent me to the emergency department a few times and I’ve absolutely loved that! It’s an experience that I don’t know if I would have had back home and they are getting to recognise me now and they even know my name. You see so many things come through the door so I really love working there.
to until I get there at the beginning of the shift, I quite like that – it’s like a little surprise and I have learnt so much going to many different specialties. I feel like I have learnt so much coming to work in Australia, because I go to all different wards, all different departments. I spent five years in my one ward back home, just in respiratory so coming here I’m going to all different surgical, medical wards, which is great. As an agency nurse, one of the benefits is the ability to self-roster and book in for the shifts that you want around your lifestyle. How has this suited your lifestyle in particular? It is so easy to book shifts, it really suits me because a lot of my friends work 9-5 so I like to have the weekends off so that I can spend some time with them and see a bit more of Sydney on the weekends. It’s so easy getting on the App, I can say when I’m not available, and I can do it a day in advance if I need to - it’s so easy.
How does nursing compare in Australia to the UK? I think basic nursing will always be the same all around the world which is great. The staffinWg is so much better here so you do have less patients to look after, which means you have more in depth time with them and more special time which is great.
How much do you use the eHCA App? I’m on the App almost every day, just checking shifts, seeing what other shifts are available if I need to and just seeing what’s coming up for the following week. You can put your timesheets on as well there so you can do them electronically which is great and it’s so quick and easy. You have nothing to worry about – you can see when your next pay date is going to be so you are always in the know with what’s going on.
Agency nursing can often mean working in a range of different departments and settings. How has this experience allowed you to develop new skills? Because I don’t find out what ward I’m going
How has HCA assisted you in creating a lifestyle/setting your roots in Australia? Doing agency really suits me, it gives me the flexibility to choose when I want to work and choose when I want to have time off. Technically
24
www.bbmlive.com
I’m still on a working holiday so I need to holiday as well as work! What are your experiences of Australian culture and lifestyle? So I first came to Australia ten years ago and I travelled the East Coast then so I knew when I came back this time that I wanted to stay in one place and live in a city. So I live in Newtown now which is like the hippest part of Sydney – I love it! I love walking down King Street and getting to know the local community, it’s so great – I love living here! How has working while in Australia with HCA funded your personal travel and holiday experiences? Doing agency, you do get more money than if you had a permanent job so I have been able to save quite a bit and I have gone abroad on a few holidays. I’ve gone to Thailand, I’ve gone to the Philippines, and it’s so easy just booking that time off work. I’ve had a month off to go back to England as well. What have you enjoyed/has been the most rewarding experience of travelling you have had by being out here? I feel really grateful for the people I have met here, the girls I live with now I met when I got to the hostel and they are like sisters to me. I really feel special with the people I have around me. You are kind of thrown together sometimes when you are travelling but I wouldn’t change them for the world. Are there any particular adventures in Australia that you have enjoyed? Yes, you can go to the Blue Mountains for as long/ short as you want – I just went for a day trip and went down walking all around [the Blue Mountains] down by waterfalls. That was so beautiful – I really enjoyed that. We’ve had some weekends away as well, like to Jarvis Bay, camping and we’ve just gone on little road trips as well – just to see where the road takes us. What is it you love about Australia? The weather is a definite pull to live here – it is so nice, I generally think everyone is so much happier here just because the sun’s out – you can always get outside – it’s so lovely. And the lifestyle – everyone is outdoorsy – we can always go to the beach, go for walks, go camping – it’s great.

Your Home in Their Hands! A Q&A with a Seven Seas Worldwide Customer Over the Summer, Seven Seas Worldwide spoke to a group of customers about the issue of moving treasured possessions across the world. The response was informative and, at times, enlightening. Check out the Q&A with one satisfied customer. While researching for your move, what were the top three things you wanted to know? First and foremost, I wanted to know everything I could about Seven Seas Worldwide! After all, these were the people who would be sending my stuff halfway across the globe! I did as much research into them online as I could – not just looking at their website but also independent review sites, press releases and travel forums. In addition to this, I also wanted to know about the process involved – how long would my belongings be at the depots and ports? Would any of my items be scrutinised at Customs? And thirdly, how quickly would I be able to see my belongings reach their final destination? Would it be worth spending the extra money on air freight to see my consignment arrive sooner? Were there any other sources of information you found useful like newspapers and magazines? No, I got everything I needed from the Internet. Only online can you find genuine customer experience on forums and social media. Why did you choose Seven Seas Worldwide? I am at university so I’m surrounded by people in the same boat! Several friends on campus mentioned them whilst we were talking about affordable ways to get our things moved back home abroad. One of our tutors spoke of them too, saying he used them back in 2004, so that was reassuring. The sea freight options at Seven Seas Worldwide were really attractive and I think quite a few of us plumped for them in the end. 34
www.bbmlive.com
How easy did you find getting a quote from Seven Seas Worldwide? Their online quote engine is probably the easiest I’ve ever come across. They provide all the details you need, together with a total price within minutes. There are a lot of documents that go with your order which can seem daunting at first but it’s essential if you want things to go smoothly. The whole shipping process is a long and complex one and Seven Seas Worldwide have done their best to make things as simple as possible for the customer, which I appreciate. They also operate 24/7 which I was very impressed by. Was the time of transfer as you expected and were you happy with this? The transfer time by sea is considerably longer compared to air but I saved a lot of money in the process. The trick is to just plan ahead: If you know you’re going to be home for Christmas, order your boxes in the summer! Work out the precise day you would like your boxes to be delivered to your front door and work back however many weeks to the day when you absolutely have to have those boxes collected. It took me a while to figure this out but I got there in the end! And my wallet is very grateful for it. What is the one piece of advice you would give to someone leaving home and relocating abroad? Don’t bring everything with you! Essential, personal items are fine but if you’re staying overseas for the foreseeable future, leave items like bulky furniture or your book collection at home or put it in storage because starting a new chapter abroad doesn’t mean dragging your past with you. Plus everyone likes to buy new stuff, right?

7 Reasons To Work Behind A Bar In Australia Bar work is one of the most popular career paths in Australia. Here are seven reasons why you should consider working behind a bar while in Australia. Contribute To Your Travel Fund
On an Australian Working Holiday and need to boost your travel fund? Bar work can pay great wages that you can spend on experiences like travelling up the East Coast in a campervan, exploring Australia’s islands or heading into the outback to see Uluru.
Earn Extra Money To Get Through Your Studies
If you’re attending a university in Australia, working behind a bar is a great way to get you through it financially. Whether you put your wages towards text books, new clothes, rent or paying off your loan, it can help lessen the burden of the cost of university.
Meet New People
With all the people that you meet working behind a bar, if you didn’t know anyone when you came to Australia, you will do pretty soon after working at a bar!
Hospo Nights
Bar staff get great benefits at other venues including Hospo Nights: drinks deals, meal deals and full-on events just so you can let your hair down at a discount!
Travel With It
You don’t have to stay at one bar forever; you could move around Australia working in different regions and going wherever’s in peak season, especially if you’re on a Working Holiday Visa.
Enjoy The Atmosphere And Have Money In Your Wallet
Before applying for bar work in Australia, you need to get your Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA). It’s required by law, but each state is different. If you’re going to be working in New South Wales, you can get your RSA by completing a one-day course with BarMax.
Gain Experience In Hospitality
Save 20% on your RSA by using our exclusive promo code BBMAUS when booking and you pay just $112 (saving $28, normally $140). Must book and pay by 31st October 2015. Not available with any other discounts/specials.
If you like the atmosphere of a good night out but don’t want to spend the cash, why not work behind a bar, listen to the music and have fun while making money instead of spending it? There’s so much you can do in hospitality in Australia if you have bar work experience. Improve your employability, work at events for extra money and apply for managerial roles to take your career further.

TRAVEL
What's It Really Like Being A Contiki Trip Manager? There’s not one person that doesn’t credit their Trip Manager for making their Contiki experience even better, but what’s it really like being in charge of up to 25 super excited travellers? We put our questions to East Coast Australia Contiki Trip Manager, Mark Heap, to find out.
What locations or activities get the biggest reaction from travellers?
How long have you been taking travellers up and down the East Coast of Australia with Contiki?
Seeing passengers’ reactions when they “find Nemo” on the Great Barrier Reef or swim with a turtle. The adrenalin rush people experience from skydiving and landing on the beach on the Gold Coast or taking the plunge with a Bungy Jump in Cairns are always priceless to see. Being a proud Sydneysider, I love hearing people say how beautiful the city is and how breath-taking the views are from the top of the Harbour Bridge. I have had passengers cry seeing the Opera House for the first time. Some people have waited all their lives to visit Australia.
What made you want to be a Contiki Trip Manager?
Are all locations and activities accessible and available year-round? Do you ever have to make alternate plans?
I have been taking people up and down the East Coast for four years with Contiki.
I travelled with Contiki in Europe and had the time of my life, and I appreciated how much of a positive impact my Trip Manager had made on my holiday. I was talking to him about what he does for a living, and he commented that I would be suited to the job and so I decided to give it a shot and apply.
Where are your favourite places to visit along the East Coast? I love the relaxed and chilled vibes of Byron Bay. The beaches and islands of the Whitsundays and 27 degree ‘winter’ days are pretty awesome too. Each place has something unique about it. 38
www.bbmlive.com
We run our trips all year round with all activities accessible and available. In the rare cases we do have to make alternate plans due to weather conditions, we are flexible - that is one of the great things about my job: working as a team with our trip drivers to think on your feet and come up with a great plan B!
Where are the best photography spots along the East Coast? How much time do you have? There are great photography spots at all of our stops: watching whales and dolphins swimming whilst watching
a sunrise at Byron Bay; those perfect postcard shots of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House; capturing the turquoise waters and fine white silica sand of Whitehaven Beach; getting a selfie with a kangaroo or koala at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary; taking the GoPro or underwater camera to snap the colourful marine life and coral that will make all your friends and family back home envious. Not to mention the lush scenery experienced as you wander through the Tropical Rainforest.
Where are travellers most likely to see a kangaroo in the wild? Near our surf camp at Coffs Harbour - we also saw a mob the other day before we boarded our ferry to Fraser Island at a place called River Heads.
What’s the weather like year-round?
The weather is typically great. It’s always sunny enough for one of our Brits on the trip to come back from the beach looking like a lobster. In the tropics we have warm winters if you can even call them that; it gets a bit cooler down south, but passengers from Canada and the UK always laugh at me when I say “it will be a bit cold today, it will be 19 or 20 degrees”. They say that’s like a nice summer’s day back home.
How many people can someone expect to be travelling with on a Contiki trip of the East Coast?
You may go on the trip solo but you will leave it with life-long friends. The great thing about our trips is you can make up to fifty new mates on any given trip from places all over the globe.
What would you suggest people pack for a Contiki trip of the East Coast? Mostly casual summery clothes: ‘thongs’ or ‘flip flops’, beach gear/towel, a jacket for those cool days, some dressy clothes if you feel like going out at night at some of our destinations. Comfortable walking shoes for our bush walk in the Blue Mountains or for climbing the Sydney
Harbour Bridge. Half our passengers are travelling with a suitcase, the other half with backpacks; it is completely your preference. I personally take a suitcase with me on the trips, but with some airlines being quite strict on luggage weights at the moment, you might save extra weight with a lighter backpack.
When would you say is the best time of year to travel along the East Coast? Anytime is a good time to visit the east coast. Summer is the most popular and obviously the warmest, though currently this winter trip has just experienced temperatures in the mid to high twenties for the last week. And Queensland itself has on average over 300 days of sunshine annually.
What are your favourite or most memorable moments as a Trip Manager on the East Coast?
There are so many! Just recently helping passengers celebrate birthdays, honeymoons - I currently have a couple on a trip on their honeymoon and they are having a ball. I really enjoy showing people local experiences. I am a HUGE South Sydney Rabbitohs Rugby League fan and nothing beats taking my group to a night at the footy and getting them all dressed up in our team colours of red and green and experiencing some good old Aussie sporting culture, just like a local would.
What three words best describe the East Coast for you? Fun, Memorable, Awesome
Contiki Holidays Australian trips last from 3-25 days. If you’ve only got a few weeks to travel or if you’re looking to experience Australia and make new friends along the way, definitely consider organised group travel as an option. It’s great to share your experiences with likeminded people, and even better if they’re with you for the ride. Give Contiki a call on 1300-188-635, head to Contiki.com or visit your local travel agent.

Meet Alyce Carter, An Awesome Whitsundays Tour Rep Imagine not only travelling around the Whitsunday Islands, but living and working in them. That’s precisely what Alyce Carter does with Awesome Whitsundays. Here, she divulges exactly what she gets up to. Name: Alyce Carter Role: Sales & Media Coordinator Town of origin: Melbourne How long have you been living/working in the Whitsundays region? Two years What’s the most awesome thing about the Whitsundays to you? It is having paradise at your doorstep. After travelling Europe for three months I was eager to check out my “own backyard” and so I moved up here and haven’t looked back. The weather is beautiful; its constant warm balmy temperatures makes you feel like you’re on holiday all year long. Do you have a favourite island or beach? It would have to be world-famous Whitehaven Beach. You see so many photos of the beach and it’s not until you see it in real life, you see 46
www.bbmlive.com
the natural beauty and the stretch of 7km of pure white sands is truly magic. It’s nature at its best and it makes me appreciate where I live every time I visit. What would you suggest people get up to on Airlie Beach? Airlie Beach is a buzzing little beach town, it has really gone ahead in the last two years and there are some great restaurants along the esplanade. You can’t go past a visit to the Airlie Beach lagoon to relax in the sun and at night a cocktail at one of the outdoor bars. I’m a regular at Breeze Bar where you’ll find the best espresso martinis. What’s the best thing you’ve ever spotted while snorkelling in the Whitsundays? Every time I snorkel I can’t help but be amazed by the underwater marine life. I always love to try and find turtles, there is something so majestic about them and they are so graceful in the water. What are your favourite memories of being an Awesome Whitsundays rep? Hosting agent training trips in the Whitsundays, in particular taking agents up to the Whitehaven Beach Hill Inlet Lookout – after the 10 minute bush walk you come out to this spectacular view and my favourite memory is seeing their reactions of just pure amazement…Their jaws literally drop and then they break out in the biggest smile. This
is what makes my job truly special, to be able to share that moment.
The Packages
When can people snorkel when doing the Reefsleep? Sleeping under the stars on the Great Barrier Reef is such a unique experience and the best part is you get the reef to yourself once the day guests leave. This then gives you time to snorkel ‘til about 5pm and then it’s time to get ready for dinner. In the morning you have another opportunity to jump back into the water after breakfast from 9am. You will be amazed how much more marine life you will see when you have the reef to yourself and a few other guests!
If you’re itching to get onto the Whitsunday Islands, book an overnight package with Awesome Whitsundays.
After an Awesome Whitsundays trip, what would you recommend visitors do in the Whitsundays? If you can splurge I’d definitely recommend a scenic flight over the Reef and Whitehaven Beach and to see the iconic Heart Reef. A Local's Guide To Port Douglas We get the inside info on Port Douglas straight from the manager at United Backpackers Port Douglas. Name: Chris Barber Occupation: Manager at United Backpackers Port Douglas Living In: Port Douglas How long you’ve been in Port Douglas: Close to six months. The best place to hang out in Port Douglas: The bar at United Backpackers, of course! However, other than that, the sunset at Anzac Park is one of the most beautiful I have seen in Australia. The best breakfast in Port Douglas: The Little Larder The best coffee in Port Douglas: Guests rave about the coffee at Origin Espresso, just around the corner from us. Your favourite restaurant in Port Douglas: I’m a sucker for a good Mexican, and the aptly titled restaurant Mexican is my favourite (try the Hibiscus margarita), however there are so many great restaurants in Port Douglas, you can pretty much take your pick of any cuisine you feel like. Also try the Surf Club; amazing food and huge servings at a great price for the budget traveller. How you spend a weekend in Port Douglas: Either a day trip to the reef, or a sail and snorkel to Low Isles; at night a trip to Iron Bar for the
Cane Toad races at 8.30pm, then on Sunday a visit to the markets at Anzac Park you can walk around for hours with so many great stalls. Stop for a beer and lunch at Central Hotel to recover from all the shopping then spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool. Head To Fraser this Spring
Spring is in the air and here’s why now is the perfect time to hop over to Fraser Island. Located on the south Queensland coast, Fraser Island is one of Australia’s most special islands. There are many interesting facts about it, including it being the largest sand island in the world with a flourishing rainforest and a 75-mile beach that is the island’s highway and landing strip. It also boasts more than 100 freshwater lakes, the most spectacular of which is Lake McKenzie, where the water turns from clear, to turquoise to ink blue. In the early hours of the morning and evening, you can also spot dingoes roaming around – great to watch, but don’t get too close! The abundance of nature on Fraser Island makes spring probably the best time to experience it. It’s during this time that the wildflower comes out in bloom, the humpback whales make their way back down south, and the temperature starts to pick up but isn’t too hot. During spring, it’s warm enough to swim in the freshwater lakes and camp beneath the stars without getting chilly, but also cool
enough to head into the depths of the rainforest and not sweat through your clothes. You can experience Fraser Island this spring on the 3-Day Camping Safari with Drop Bear Adventures. A fun adventure tour packed with highlights, things you’ll do include swimming in Lake McKenzie, visiting Maheno Shipwreck, bathing in Champagne Pool, hiking through the rainforest, floating down Eli Creek and fishing on the beach. Get to know your fellow camp mates with giant jenga, beach cricket and learning the fine art of playing a didgeridoo and throwing a boomerang. From $425pp, you get a guide, beach camp accommodation, hot showers, food, 4WD transport (which you can drive yourself if you’re over 21 with a full driver’s license), pick-up from Noosa or Rainbow Beach, and all entry fees covered. Tick Fraser Island off your bucket list this spring with Drop Bear Adventures in just three days. Book your tour at

Turtle Season on Heron Island
Top Tips for Turtle Watching • To find a turtle, simply walk along Heron Beach one or two hours after the evening’s high tide. Look for tracks in the sand to see where the turtles have come in from the ocean. • Light can disturb and disorient the turtles, so always minimize the use of torches and make sure they’re 3-volt low-impact torches. • Don’t use flash photography. • When you see a turtle moving up or down the beach stay as still as possible. Excessive movement can upset the turtles. • Never walk in front of a turtle, always walk behind them. • Do not try and approach the turtles. If they feel threatened they will retreat to the sea and not lay their eggs. • If you come across a turtle digging out her nest, give her some room. Sit down quietly behind the turtle at least 10 metres away. Once she has finished digging, wait at least 15 minutes then you may approach from behind. • The turtles can be quite stressed and tired after a night of digging and laying their eggs so always be sure to not get too close (10 metres is close enough) so as not to panic them.
Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and delve deep into this island paradise filled to the brim with natural beauty and an abundance of marine life. Heron Island is a stunning coral cay situated 89km off of the coast of Queensland. The island is the perfect long weekend away for those who want rid of the buzz of mobile phones and lethargy of television and really experience a relaxing island getaway on the Great Barrier Reef. Heron Island is small enough to walk around the entire island in just 20 minutes, and with a no-day-trippers rule, this guest-only island means you won’t be crowded in and battling to find a spot for your towel on the beach. To reach this tropical arcadia of the Great Barrier Reef you can either take a boat for $60 or travel by seaplane for $338. The exclusivity of the island enables you to escape the tourist trap of other resorts within the Great Barrier Reef. The island features a range of stunning accommodation including private suites, a free-standing beach house, and twin rooms. Each accommodation type features a balcony or terrace, en suite bathrooms, towels, air conditioning, mini bars and more. Most rooms offer ocean views in between the unique vegetation on this plush island. From October to March, Heron Island is brought to life by the annual visit from Loggerhead and Green Turtles making their pilgrimage to breed on the shores of the island. The breeding turtles return some 30 years after hatching in the region, continuing the circle of life.
Heron Island has a resident population of around 4,000 turtles who live on Heron reef, so you can expect to see turtles in the water all year round. In September, more of these giants of the sea flock back to the island to mate and lay clutches of eggs. Hatching usually occurs with the warmer weather from December. You can take full advantage of this magical time of year and make the most of the fantastic savings and inclusions on offer when you book your 3 (or more!) night turtle season holiday, which includes: • Accommodation • Daily Breakfast • 1 snorkel trip • 24 hours free Wi-Fi for 1 device • A special turtle gift (an ornament per room or a t-shirt/turtle backpack for kids) • From $160 per person, per night, based on twin share Book a suite and receive return boat transportation for 2 adults. Better yet, kids stay and eat breakfast for free when using existing bedding configuration. Book at www.heronisland.com

SOUTH AUSTRALIA
AN INTERVIEW FROM KI HQ This month we speak with Kangaroo Island’s Amy Martin-Smith to get the inside scoop on the best things to see and do whilst on a Kangaroo Island Adventure Tour...
What are the top 3 things to do on a Kangaroo Island Adventure Tour?
One of the best things to do on the 2 day Kangaroo Island Wilderness Explorer tour is enjoy the free activities at Vivonne Bay Lodge, which is our accommodation for the night. You have about 2 hours of free time to kayak on the Harriet River, walk or cycle the 10km of paths, spot wildlife, play pool or table tennis or simply relax on the deck with a bevvy or two. My other top things to do on tour are the sandboarding and spotting as much local wildlife as possible, including kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, echidnas, possums and wedgetailed eagles. What’s your favourite time of year to be on the island?
My favourite time of year on Kangaroo Island is now. September to December is spring-time here and it is when the rolling hills are lush green, the weather is great and it’s the best time for wildlife spotting. The days are getting longer so there’s more time to explore all that this amazing Island has to offer. What essentials should visitors pack when visiting KI?
The obvious things to pack are your camera, spending money for souvenirs, good walking shoes and a warm jacket for night-time. But remember to bring your sense of adventure and willingness to learn all about Kangaroo Island. Our guides are knowledgeable and passionate about this Island so you’ll come away with lots of stories and information about what makes Kangaroo Island so great. What’s your personal highlight on the island?
My personal highlight on Kangaroo Island is Admirals Arch. Not only do you see an impressive 62
www.bbmlive.com
hole that has been naturally carved out of the cliff through millions of years of being buffeted by the wind and sea, but you get to watch the LongNosed Fur Seals frolicking in the shallows. What kind of temperatures/ weather can people expect if visiting in spring?
The average temperature in spring is 21C during the day. Most days are sunny and bright with very little rainfall. The rugged south coast can be windy but with a good weatherproof jacket you won’t feel it. What’s a highlight for animal lovers?
The highlight for animal lovers would be the Australian Sea Lions at Seal Bay. We are very fortunate to have 5% of the world’s population in this breeding colony. You get to walk amongst these amazing creatures, basically in their own backyard, with a National Parks guide. Did you know the Australian Sea Lions go out to sea for three days to fish and then come back to sleep for three days? That’s just one of the facts you’ll learn about at Seal Bay. Any tips for wine tasting on KI?
Kangaroo Island produces some fantastic wines. I personally love a good Sauvignon Blanc from the Sunset Winery and luckily you have the opportunity to purchase a white or red “souvenir” on tour. Or better yet, get a bottle to have with your Aussie BBQ dinner at Vivonne Bay Lodge whilst on a Kangaroo Island Adventure Tour. Any secret/ less well known beaches or locations visitors should seek out whilst visiting?
I personally love Stokes Bay. You have to walk through a rocky tunnel to get to the beach which is pristine, white sand, clear water, fish swimming in rock pools, it’s simply stunning.

Discover The Pink City
Known as the Pink City due to the colour of its buildings, Jaipur is the capital of the Rajasthan state. An exciting city rich with experiences, there are many jewels to be found amongst the chaos.
built to protect Amber Fort in 1726, it’s surrounded by large battlements, lush greenery and boasts 360-degree views of Jaipur. Standing on a cliff edge, it’s a symbol of the city’s defence from war and rivals, housing the world’s largest canon on wheels and armoury. Rumour has it, the fort was also holding treasure buried beneath the grounds.
Amber Fort is arguably the city’s star attraction. Built in the 16th century, it resides high on a hill overlooking Maota Lake and is made up of towering walls, gates and cobbled paths. Its red and white sandstone is juts one of the many examples why Jaipur is recognised as the Pink City. The most important parts of the fort are Diwaan-e-Aam, Diwaan-e-Khaas, Sukh Niwaas and Sheesh Mahal for their intricate beauty, design and royal use. However, the main reason why Amber Fort is so popular with visitors is that you can take an elephant ride up the hill to the main entrance. Decorated with traditional patterns, it’s an unforgettable experience as they make their way up the steep slope. Jaigarh Fort is connected to Amber Fort. Originally
The third fort to form a defence around Jaipur is Nahargarh Fort, meaning Abode Of Tigers. Built in the Aravalli Hills in 1734, you can get one of the best views of the city here. The fort was renovated in 1868, but is still connected to Jaigarh Fort by an extended wall.

Home of the Jaipur Royal Family, the City Palace was completed in 1732 and is a prime example of Rajput palace tradition and regional style. The use of columns, arches and balconies are symbolic with Rajput, while the murals, lattice and mirrors are very Mughal. Enter through one of several gates, including Udai Pol, Jaleb Chowk, Tripolia Gate and Virendra Pol. You could get lost staring at Hawa Mahal. Built in
GLOBAL TRAVEL 1799 and translated to Palace of the Winds, it is a great wall made of pink sandstone that resembles a honeycomb hive. Towering five stories high, its main purpose was to provide the royal ladies of the City Palace a view of everyday life and royal processions through the windows without being seen from below. Away from the glitz of the palaces and forts is Jantar Mantar, an astronomical observation site. Built in the early 18th century by keen astrologer, Maharaja Jai Singh II, along with four others in New Delhi, Ujjan, Varanasi and Mathura, it is the largest of the five, housing 20 handmade instruments including the biggest sundial in the world, the Samrat Yantra. Etiquette In India
Travel confidently in India with our helpful tips on Indian etiquette. • When meeting a group of people for the first time, it’s expected of you to greet the oldest or most senior person first. • When saying goodbye, you should aim to speak to each person individually. • People of opposite genders generally don’t shake hands. If you’re unsure, wait for them to make the first move. • Dress modestly - aim to have your shoulders and knees covered. • If entering someone’s house, it’s customary to take off your shoes. • A lot of food is eaten with fingers rather than cutlery, but should still be practiced in a formal manner. • Dietary restrictions mean that chicken, fish, lamb and vegetables are main ingredients in food.

There is so much scope for non tourist travel in Bali and Indonesia. One only needs to drive 90 minutes west of the bustling and overcrowded airport of Denpasar and Kuta township to reach a beach where coconuts, surfers, sunsets and the friendly neighborhood dogs might be your only companions. There is a richness of ritual that is carried out here every day. Ceremonies on the beach take place regularly producing a scene of fragrant incense smoke, flames, chimes and chants ringing out around a group of crisp white outfits and largerthan-life temple effigies and flower petal offerings. The innate spirituality of this beautiful island is so deeply magical, thanks to the many sacred rituals that are carried out by the Balinese on a daily basis, and we invite anyone who has ever called Bali a tourist trap to open their eyes to the ‘real’ Bali. You might have heard the mainstream media beginning their mumblings about Canggu; 18 months ago a less well trodden track took you down to a surf break that was a steady Sunday favourite for those looking for an escape from the easier and more crowed breaks at Seminyak
and Legian. Batu Bolong in particular is a thriving scene for the young and hip traveller in search of a cool vibe with space to breathe, with the convenience of an empty (or packed) café for your post yoga or surf avocado eggs and green juice. Every day a new café pops open with yet another menu of mouthwatering dishes. Nalu Bowls is moving in from Seminyak and Betelnut Cafe are about to open their second restaurant. Another yoga practice, another cross fit and another place to get freshly baked croissants. Now is the time to visit Canggu – enjoy this special part of Bali while the mix of expats and entrepreneurs can still afford the rent to show their wares in between rice fields, Balinese warungs and cows in an unceasingly creative and eclectic way. Stay in Canngu with Inner Temple Retreat for an authentic yoga, massage and meditation experience that honors and connects to the deeper soul of Bali from $895 USD. JESS GLYNNE
INTERVIEWS
Hi Jess, Where are you right now? I’m currently on tour in the US. So, to put it bluntly, you’re kind of everywhere at the moment! How does it feel to have become such a successful recording artist? What’s been a highlight of the journey? I’ve experienced so many amazing moments but the main highlight so far would be releasing my debut album, ‘I Cry When I Laugh’. I poured a lot into creating this record and to be able to finally share it with everyone has been a real dream come true. You only get to release your debut album once so that moment will live with me forever. You started off on Blackbutter Records, and went on to Atlantic, how important was this switch for you? My publishing deal was signed via Black Butter and Atlantic has been my recording home from the beginning and I have found it to be a great partnership in getting my voice heard as an artist. The whole process has been organic and, collectively, they have really pushed me to be the best I can be. You’ve worked with some amazing artists such as Clean Bandit, Tinie Tempah and Route 94, which has kind of stamped your vocals on this era of music. Do you have more collaborations coming up? I’ve been really fortunate in the collaborations I’ve had so far as they have all created long-lasting memories. however, I don’t have any plans for the future just yet, as I’m focusing on bringing my band on the road and playing live to as many people as possible. Having had to have vocal rest and surgery earlier this year, it seems like a realistic eventuality when you’re working so hard. How did this affect you? When I was told that I had to have an operation, I was instantly heartbroken as my career was really starting to blossom and the thought of having to cancel shows and basically disappear for a while was a difficult reality. However, I was in the best possible hands with Dr. Zeitels from Boston, who has done similar ops for lots of people like
Lionel Ritchie, Roger Daltrey, Adele and my friend Sam Smith who recommended him to me. I was with the best man in the world but there’s still no absolute guarantee that it would work. Thankfully, it has and I think my voice is the strongest it’s ever been. Where’s the most incredible place touring has taken you to? So far I’ve only been to America touring-wise and I can’t get enough of it! Next stop is Japan and I’m guessing that’s gonna be amazing! If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be and why? I have a long list but off the top of my head – Frank Ocean, Beyonce, Timbaland. So when you’re not recording, writing or performing, what do you like to do to relax? I absolutely love horse riding. Haven’t been able to do it for a while but hopefully I can do it again when I get a break. Maybe I’ll have my own horse one day. Your mother worked in the music industry, and you also did a stint; would you consider also getting involved in the business side of the industry again, or is it just performing from here on out? My dream has always been to be a singer but working for a management company really helped me to understand the inner workings of the business side. Plus my mother has given me invaluable advice and support, especially when my schedule gets a bit hectic, as she understands what it’s like “behind the scenes”. Quick fire round - Let’s get to know Jess a little better! Coffee or Tea? Tea Night out in Camden or night out in Shoreditch? I’m gonna say Shoreditch! Glass of wine or pint of beer? Water Steak and chips or a cheeky Chinese? Just CHIPS! I don’t eat meat and I’m not a fan of Chinese. Heels or trainers? That’s not fair, I love both!

How did the title, ‘The Radicle’, come around, and what was the main inspiration behind it? The whole inspiration behind it was taking a break from music, believe it or not! Studying jazz, blues, piano, and wanting to connect directly with the music as opposed to hanging out of nightclubs at silly o’clock. I just got a little burnt out around 2008-09. I stood back and it was a good time for a break because there wasn’t much music inspiring me. That was the beginning of ‘The Radicle’ so it’s been a long process. How long has the process been? About five years of learning, running marathons, not really going out to nightclubs, and a radical life shift. The way it’s spelt with ‘le’ means the first seeds of an embryo, and once I got the music together, I wanted something rootsy that fitted with the vibe. There are no synths – it’s all humans playing instruments – so I felt that was a good title. It’s almost like version 2.0. With the sound you created, did you have pen to paper for a while? In the beginning, there was a bit of improvising because I was messing about trying to get ideas for new music. But I got a few ideas together quickly, and I was starting to get an album. Once I’d committed to it that was it. Production was the last stage, whereas when I’ve made music before, it was always starting with beats and drums and getting grooves and it evolved from there. This was literally sitting down, playing and recording, leaving them and coming back to them. When you’re working on a piece, you’re zoomed in, and the only way to evaluate it is to put the space and time in. Sometimes 24 or 48 hours isn’t enough, so I’d leave things on the hard drive for six months and then come back, and if they were still exciting on that first listen, then that stands the test of time. That was part of the aim as well: to make something timeless. I don’t want to
Tim Deluxe ‘The Radicle’ is out 30 October 2015 (2LP, CD and digital) on Strictly Rhythm. Pre-order now from store.defected.com use loads of electronic software and production because that will date really quickly, and when things shift again it will just sound old. I was talking to Adrian Sherwood maybe about 5-6 six years ago, and he said that you’ll always find, with people playing real instruments, the record will have a longer time or feeling about it and outlive things that are here and now. The next step was to evaluate whether to have singers and I ended up just using loads of spoken words and sourcing out With this record, you were listening and playing rather than going out… Yeah, I wasn’t going out at all. Maybe a couple of nights in that time span, but I was running a lot and Sundays were all about marathon training for 18 miles, so you need to be well rested and fed! It’s funny because I live near Fabric and I’d be running past and people would be on the pavements. My life has gone 180. You were working with so many musicians and listening to so much music, were there any tracks in particular that seemed to take forever? ‘Feelings’ was like that. The bonus track, ‘Spirals’, is a mad track - I didn’t know where it fitted in. There was a lot of toing and froing, I was trying to get everyone to play the riff, but it’s not really designed to be played on a trumpet! I was fighting with ‘Captain Captain’ because I’ve got an outtake of John [Donaldson] doing a whole piano solo over it, and it sounds amazing, but it’s full-on jazz, so maybe I’ll use that for an unreleased club mix or an experiment. For the album, it was pretty wild. So are you leaning towards live shows? Yeah, that’s the plan for the record. And they’re amazing musicians so it’d be really cool to galvanise that altogether and work out how to do it. We’ve also got the big back catalogue to jump into and maybe rework into the style of the album, so it’s quite an exciting, nerve-wracking prospect for me! It’s new and stimulating. I mean no disrespect – DJing’s amazing – but I still feel like I want a challenge. I think it’s good to fly by the seat of your pants a little bit!

Interviews by Frankie Salt
British producer, Tim Deluxe, will release his highly awaited new album, ‘The Radicle’ on 30th October – but it’s probably not what you’d expect. The man behind summer party smash hits like ‘It Just Won’t Do’ and ‘Less Talk More Action’ has been absent for quite a few years, and during this time, has swapped house for jazz. To explain more, we had a chat with him about why he’s taken such a musical shift, working with live musicians and trading hangovers for marathon training on Sundays.

level. It’s something that we’re really looking forward to building. The whole concept of the brand is to just put on really cool events that are designed for the ravers and for DJs to be outand-out DJs. It’s about having an insane vibe and enjoying the music.
Hi Hannah, how are you? I’m good, thank you. How are you?
Is there anywhere you’d most like to take it? Anywhere and everywhere. We’re focusing on the second UK tour for February and March next year; we’ll have bigger venues but I’m gonna make sure that I don’t take away the vibe if we go bigger. I’d rather do a smaller venue – warehouse vibe, low ceilings – to make sure that what we deliver is correct.
Really well, thanks! Where in the world are you? I’m at home at the moment. I had a pretty heavy weekend with a gig in Birmingham, then I played Bestival and I’m about to go to Ibiza tomorrow so it’s nice to be at home! What have been the craziest moments of the summer season in the Northern Hemisphere for you? There have been so many! One of my favourite English festivals again this year has been Creamfields – that was insane. I was in MK Area 10 and it was at capacity, the tent was so big and the vibe was so good. Ibiza has been amazing because I’ve had my What Hannah Wants events at Ibiza Rocks, which has put the brand out there. But then I’ve also had my monthly residency at Amnesia in the Defected terrace. You must be chuffed with the success of What Hannah Wants… It’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time, but I wanted to wait until I got to a certain 74

While summer in the Northern Hemisphere comes to an end, it’s just picking up in the Southern Hemisphere, and you’ll be returning to Australia in November. Is it solely for Stereosonic? There are a few sideshows – I’m not sure what they are yet – but Stereosonic is the main thing. In such a setting, how could someone from the crowd get your attention? I’m pretty active, I do like to look around and I enjoy watching people enjoying themselves. People can do a lot to get my attention and have done really random things like pull up their tops while on people’s shoulders – which I wouldn’t necessarily advise! People usually do the W with their fingers and that usually gets my attention – or just generally scream like crazy!

Al Murray
This month, a whole host of comedians are going to be performing at the Sydney Opera House for Just For Laughs Sydney. In its fifth year, the comedy festival will be putting some of the biggest names live on stage from 19th – 25th October – including a handful of the UK’s most beloved stand-ups.
Russell Brand
Sometimes controversial but always hilarious, Russell Brand returns to Australia with Trew World Order, a show about freedom – Trew freedom – and spreading a message with the strength of a crowd, rather than alone. The must-see act of 2015, you can’t argue with Brand’s impressive experience in the entertainment, political and celebrity worlds, whether debating with UK party leaders, starring in Hollywood movies or opening cafes whose profits go straight to the local council estate. He says what he thinks and he thinks what he says, so an evening with Russel Brand is one not to be missed. Friday 23rd October – Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House Saturday 24th October – Qantas Credit Union Arena
John Bishop
Despite being no stranger to Australia’s shores, John Bishop will in fact be embarking on his first ever tour Down Under this October. Why it’s taken him so long to book his dates, we don’t know, but what we do know is that it will be worth the wait. The king of comedy who took just three years to hit the limelight, has won over hearts with his comedy entertainment series including John Bishop’s Australia no less, and raising more than £1.6million for charity by completing a horrific triathlon. It may be his first time on the great stage, but we think Bishop will feel right at home at the Sydney Opera House. Wednesday 21st October – Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House

He’s been The Pub Landlord for a staggering 20 years, and in that time Al Murray has drunk around 20,000 pints in front of a million more comedy lovers. With a pint in hand, he’ll be bringing his new show (and bar!), One Man, One Guvnor, to the Sydney Opera House for three shows! We can’t wait to hear what he has to say about Australia, its people and its politics as this spoken-minded publican-turned-politician treats us all to a few laughs. Monday 19th – Wednesday 21st October – Playhouse, Sydney Opera House
Omid Djalili
Actor and comedian, Omid Djalili will be coming to Australia on his first official tour this month. The brilliantly titled, Iranalamadingdong, sees Djalili step away from his usual material on his Iranian heritage, to discuss things like getting older, being a celebrity and the secret to marriage. Older and wiser with stories that will have you falling out of your seat, he’s one of the UK’s most beloved stand-ups for very good reason. Thursday 22nd October – Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House
Danny Bhoy
A favourite for audiences in Australia, Danny Bhoy returns to Australia for four dates during Just For Laughs Sydney. No stranger to the Sydney Opera House, Please Untick This Box will see Danny perform a different kind of stand-up, one that lets him be who he wants to be, rather than who he is (his words, not ours). As quick-witted as always, the Indian Scottish comedian will prove once again why he’s packed venues at Edinburgh Fringe Festival nine times over, and broken records with the audience numbers in Australia and New Zealand. As well as performing their own individual shows, Al Murray and Danny Bhoy will feature on the lineup of the All Star Gala – the crown jewel of the festival with a second show added due to popular demand! Also cracking a few jokes and telling some stories will be Ireland’s very own Tommy Tiernan, UK funny man Stephen K Amos, and Australian locals Dave Hughes, Will Anderson and Celia Pacquola. Saturday 24th October 7pm & 9.30pm – Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House

I want to be, and what I want to say, rather than who I really am. You’ve previously picked up on Australia’s over use of the term bizarre, but what’s the most bizarre thing that’s happened to you whilst touring in Oz? I met The Krankies backstage after a show I did on the Gold Coast. You’ve previously joked about being the Common Wealth comedian - is there a big difference between how you approach shows in the UK as to in Canada, Australia or NZ? Not really. Obviously there are some cultural references that you have to change in order for the joke to work. I once spent the first 3 shows I did in New York wondering why a punchline wasn’t hitting home. Then I changed ‘trousers’ to ‘pants’ and it got a big laugh. I took off my pants.
Our favourite Indian-Scottish comedian talks Aussie accents, meeting The Krankies and returning to Sydney this October. Hi Danny, how’s life treating you? Very well thank you. And may I commend you on the most cordial opening to an interview I have ever had. Bravo! You’re welcome! We’re so pleased to hear you’re retuning to Australia; can you tell us a little bit about Please Untick This Box? What’s the inspiration behind the name and what sort of subjects will you be covering? The main inspiration behind the title was the fact that I had a deadline in which to submit a title in order to reach the main brochure drop for the forthcoming season of shows in any given theatre. I am currently talking about elections, religion and birds. Yes, you’re right - it is quite hard to tie those in together. Previously, you’ve touched on the Australian accent and Australians moving to London; how will you be putting a local touch on it this time around? To be honest, I’m a little embarrassed when I think back to my over-relience on accents in previous stand up shows. I think this is a more grown up show. I haven’t grown up. Not a bit. But the material has definitely started to reflect more who
You’re breaking up the tour with Sydney in October and then elsewhere in Australia in 2016; what are you up to in between? I am going home. I could have stayed out in Australia over Christmas, but they have Christmas on the beach in piping hot temperatures, which is not what the baby Jesus would have wanted. Being a rather well-travelled comedian, have you discovered anything in Australia off of the beaten track in between shows? There is a phenomenal winery somewhere on the outskirts of Kyneton in regional Victoria. But I can’t remember what it’s called. Also, hidden away just off a side track in, I think, the Northern Territory, is a kind of large rock that changes colour during the course of the day. I don’t want to say anymore than that, because I don’t want it to get flooded with tourists, but it’s quite the rock. Anything you haven’t ticked off your list in Oz yet? What would you like to get up to this time around? I am thinking I might do the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb this time around. I’m not very good with heights, but I feel like I should give it a crack. I reckon it’s probably one of those things you just need to have a few beers and tackle it on your own...

FUNNY NEWS But her unorthodox response didn’t seem to damage her standing in the pageant, which she won based on both judges’ scores and viewer callin votes. Which just goes to prove, if Hitler had a nice arse and great tits, we’d all be speaking German now.
Having A Blast At Birthday
Everyone knows the more drunk you are, the less things hurt – which is just as well considering the more drunk you are, the more likely you are to fall over and smash your face in. In fact if you’re reading BBM, there’s a good chance you’re drunk right now – drunk illiterates have been our key demographic for a while now.
Bringing Sexy Back - In Time
If you could go to any place in time and history, where would you choose? To Judea in 32AD maybe, to share out a KFC family bucket with JC and his crew at the last supper? To Stratford-upon-Avon in Elizabethan England to watch Hamlet with Shakespeare himself? Or maybe to the Playboy mansion in the ‘60s, when it was still socially acceptable to objectify and degrade women? And speaking of degrading women, the newly crowned Miss Italy gave an interesting answer to the pub-debate-style time travel question. When quizzed by judges, she said she would most like to travel back to the world’s most brutal and bloody conflict that resulted in attempted genocide and millions of innocent lives lost – World War II. Asked why she had chosen 1942, Alice Sabatini from Lazio said she wanted to “live” the Second World War, noting she would not have had to fight as she is a woman. Bless. “Well . . . to see really what the Second World War was like, since the books talk about it for page after page. I . . I want to live it. In any case I am a woman so I wouldn’t have had to do military service, so I would have been at home with the fear of . . .” she said, trailing off with a delightful light laugh. Awww. So cute. Sexy Sabatini’s strange desire to relive one of the continent’s bloodiest years triggered a swift and savage online barrage of satirical memes. Twitter montages featured the brunette beauty queen smiling as she sashayed in her bikini through warravaged battlefields. 80

But a bloke in Tulsa took the phrase “beer armour” to a new level after stumbling home after celebrating his birthday, only to discover he’d been shot. Twice. During the ride home, the man and others in the car heard “popping” noises on the highway and, after parking up, noticed a bullet hole in the back windshield. The victim then complained of pain in his shoulder – only to find a bullet had passed straight through his arm. Brilliantly, it was only when he sat down in hospital that he felt another sharp pain – this time in his arse. Surprise, surprise another bullet was found lodged in his butt. Something similar happened to BBM’s mate Dan once, only it wasn’t a bullet in his arse, it was a shampoo bottle. That one is less of a mystery.
Storm In A D-Cup
In possibly the worst attempt to trick women into removing their clothes since those Female Body Inspector T-shirts a few years back, workers at a jail in the US told female lawyers to remove their bras so that they wouldn’t set off metal detectors. At least two attorneys say they were told they’d have to remove their bras when entering the Cumberland County Jail but both refused to comply. Sheriff Kevin Joyce said it was not standard practice and he would not let it happen again. “I appreciate that he recognises that I shouldn’t have to take off my clothes to see my clients,” said attorney Amy Fairfield, somehow keeping a straight face.
Spider Scare Sparks Smash
In possibly the biggest overreaction since the last time Cristiano Ronaldo made slight contact with a defender in the penalty area, a woman in the US leapt from a moving car and caused an accident after she spotted a spider on her shoulder.
Selfies More Deadly Than Sharks
Journo Jumps To The Rescue
Whether it’s falling off rocks, being electrocuted or tumbling down the steps of the Taj Mahal, more people have died from taking selfies (12) this year than have been chewed up and spat out by sharks (8) – which by the dodgy logic of most news outlets means it’s a more deadly pastime.
Reporter Shawn Annarelli, from Pennsylvania’s Centre Daily Times, says the brothers, aged seven and nine, were supposed to board a bus to their school but failed to show up.
Bad news for narcissistic social media whores – it seems selfies are now more dangerous than sharks. Kind of.
Of course, this doesn’t take into account other factors, such as the fact that billions more people take photos of themselves than go swimming in shark-infested waters, or the relative stupidity of the person taking the photo. Take the example of a boy in Russia from a few weeks ago. The gun-toting teen tried to take a photo of himself while holding a pistol – and promptly shot himself in the head. Remember kids: intelligence saves lives.
An intrepid investigative reporter ruined his own story after being sent out to report on a manhunt for two children following their sudden disappearance – only to find them himself.
Police posted their picture on Twitter about an hour later and the media machine began to crank into gear.
Mother-of-the-year contender Angela Kipp, 35, panicked when she saw the offending arachnid as she was backing out of her Syracuse, Indiana, driveway and immediately jumped from the vehicle. Unfortunately, her 9-year-old son was still in the car, and the traumatised tyke tried desperately to hit the brake pedal as he slowly reversed into traffic. By a stroke of bad luck, he accidentally hit the gas pedal and the car charged into a passing school bus, which luckily had no children on board. The pint-sized driver escaped with minor head injuries. The medical status of the spider is unknown.
Then action man Annarelli arrived on the scene. Using his expert powers of deduction and sleuthing, he set about his search by poking around in some bushes near a playground. He promptly found the boys hiding under a blueberry bush, and called 911. Apparently the boys just “didn’t want to go to school”.

Gloves Off For Boxer’s Battle With Crime
Sean McComb has taken the first step to becoming the world’s first Northern Irish superhero after the champion boxer stopped two robberies in the space of 30 minutes. Now all he needs is to witness his parents being brutally murdered and the transformation will be complete.
Tuxedo Joke Suits The Mood
They say the secret to good comedy is timing. And certainly whenever we see some idiot wearing an Apple watch, we’re inclined to laugh. But for a better example, let’s turn to Tyneside for the tale of the Toon twin-tuxedo trauma. The story starts just before the season opener in August, when Newcastle new boy Chancel Mbemba took manager Steve McLaren’s request to “dress smart” a little too seriously. Mbemba promptly turned up at St James Park in a tuxedo. The press loved it, everyone laughed, and a general sense of good-humoured optimism was in the air in the north-west as the team took a new direction following a change of leadership for the coming campaign. Jovial stuff. Fast forward six weeks and the Toon are in crisis. They’re in the relegation zone, they can’t score for shit, and fans have just realised they’re being managed by Steve ‘wally with the brolly’ McLaren. Perhaps remembering the laughter that followed Mbemba’s fashion faux pas at the start of the season, Florian Thauvin decided to cheer people up by literally “following suit” and turning up for his team’s next match in a tuxedo. Unfortunately for him, the joke didn’t go down so well, with Toon fans claiming he wasn’t taking the club’s crisis seriously. “He turns up in a tux!” said Toon legend turned slap head Alan Shearer. “This is a serious business we’re in here, it was funny on the first day of the season, it’s not funny anymore. When Newcastle walked out they didn’t look focused or prepared – that was for the warm-up.” Poor old Newcastle. The faces may change, but it looks like they’ve yet again shelled out a small fortune on an expensive flop. Much like an Apple watch. 82

The Belfast amateur, who won bronze at the European Games this year, was on duty in his day job for Belfast City Sightseeing Tours last month when the would-be criminals struck. The first instance involved the theft of a lady’s purse, with the thief forced to drop the stolen item after being chased by McComb and a colleague. It is unclear if the colleague’s name was Robin. Soon after, 22-year-old McComb was dealing with some customers when a similar incident occurred, only this time he physically restrained a thief to retrieve a stolen mobile phone. “I was walking up the town with some customers, and I saw a man running in front of city hall. I saw all my colleagues pointing and pointing – I thought to myself: ‘No way, this could not be happening again’. I just started sprinting up after him, grabbed him by the hood and I got the phone back,” he said before jumping off the top of a building in a big cape.
Wiki Games Help Make A Mayor
We all know the greatest thing about living in the internet age is the amount of information and communication available to us all at the click of a button. That and the porn. Vast quantities of extreme porn. But an extra perk for celebrities, it seems, is that access to your own Wikipedia page makes writing your CV so much easier – as recently retired Mexican footballer Cuauhtemoc Blanco discovered last month when he applied for the position of mayor of Cuernavaca, a city of about 350,000 people. According to a report in the Mexican news, Blanco’s CV features information cut and pasted from his Wikipedia page and has no information on academics or related work experience. But in a world where Donald Trump is a front runner to become the most powerful man in global politics, do you think such minor inconsistencies were going to trouble Blanco? He comfortably won his election and starts his reign on 1st January.
Arsenal Get The Ref End Of The Stick Diego Costa’s attempt to get the entire Arsenal team sent off last month may have fallen just short but there was a silver lining for his unwitting partner in crime.
For his failure to spot the Chelsea striker slap, kick, garrotte and do the chicken dance/noise in front of Gunners players in a bid to stir up trouble during the clash at Stamford Bridge, referee Mike Dean was awarded man-of-the-match by viewers of French channel Canal+. Congratulations Mikey, you earned it.
Model Frames Herself
With so many scandals involving sports stars shagging around, it was almost inevitable that some nefarious woman would come up with a scheme to make some cash out of it. That was certainly the plan for an 18-year-old Czech model, who managed to seduce a National Hockey League legend, go back to her place, do the no-pants dance, then take a selfie in bed with him as he slept off his exertions. The woman, known only as Catherine from Moravia, then threatened to publish the photo unless Jaromir Jagr, 43, was willing to hand over 50,000 Czech crowns (about $2000 US currency). Sadly for Catherine, there was one fatal flaw in her plan - he’s single. His response to the threat? “I don’t care.” So in a fit of anger, she published the photo anyway – and in doing so screwed up her own relationship with a hockey player from the Czech junior national team. Smooth.
Hammer Thrower Gets Fare Hearing
There’s nothing worse than when you get out of a taxi and suddenly realise you don’t have any cash on you. Except maybe getting out of a prostitute and realising the same thing.
Well, according to a Chinese taxi driver, that’s what happened to champion hammer thrower Pawel Fajdek (the taxi bit not the prostitute) after celebrating victory at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing. When Fajdek realised he was short of shrapnel after a taxi ride from the stadium, he handed over his gold medal instead. At least that’s how the taxi driver tells it. According to the hammer thrower himself, it’s more likely the cabbie just stole the medal after finding it on the back seat and tried to cover his tracks.
Hammering Home A Good Result
It’s not uncommon for football fans to get a tattoo commemorating a famous night or a great triumph. BBM, for example, has a tattoo of a naked Cheryl Cole after we successfully hid in the attic above Ashley Cole’s bathroom for a week in 2007. But we can’t help but feel one West Ham fan got a little carried away after tattooing the score and goal scorers from the Hammers’ 2-1 away win against Manchester City last month onto his leg. A good result? Definitely. Worth searing into your flesh as a reminder for the rest of your life? No. Especially as most people will have forgotten about the otherwise meaningless fixture in a month’s time. Except that guy.

Costa image courtesy of CoolGuy Wikimedia Commons
Alas, while Mike was the only one to come away from the game with any sort of accolade (sarcastic or not), the Arsenal players and Costa (who was subsequently banned for three games) were not the only victims of the fallout. In a bizarre twist, some Arsenal fans tried to start a boycott of Costa coffee in protest. No seriously, we didn’t make up that punchline.

CRYSTAL BALLS Taurus
That little white lie you put on your CV comes back to bite you when your boss asks you to use your five years of hostage negotiation training to resolve a tense situation involving the company chairman and five heavily-armed ISIS terrorists.
Libra
An overhead microphone catches you making a poor joke about Syrian refugees and the Murdoch press calls for your immediate resignation from the role of Trade Minister. Your attempts to point out that you’re not the Trade Minister, and have never been involved in politics, fall on deaf ears as the paparazzi photograph your every move. The Daily Telegraph even runs a frontpage photo of you with the simple words “Trade Minister Scum” written underneath. After a week of hell, the Telegraph finally relents and prints a 24-word apology in a corner of page 25 – but Andrew Bolt refuses to back down from the comments in his column where he describes you as a “political parasite” who deserves to be viciously beaten by anyone who sees you walking the street. A week later, you’re viciously beaten by someone who spots you walking in the street.

Cancer
Due to an administrative error at Roads and Maritime Services, you are officially designated as a road traffic accident blackspot. As a result, council workers install a large warning sign to your chest featuring the words “slow down” written in black on yellow. You are also visited by several emotional families who take turns to cellotape wilting bouquets of flowers to your body.
Leo
After making it to the final two candidates for a new job at work, you’re surprised to discover that your main rival for the role is former WWE wrestling superstar Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Things take a further unexpected turn when you’re called in for one final interview. Midway through the chat, your interviewer is called by Bret “The Hitman” Hart and, while he’s distracted, Jake “The Snake” sneaks into the room and smashes you over the head with a steel chair. When the interviewer sees you lying unconscious on the floor, he has no choice but to count you out and award the job to Jake “The Snake”.
Sagittarius
You apply for the role of “supervisor” at work but your credentials are called into question when you list “super vision” as two words under a list of skills on your CV. In a subsequent test to see if you can see through walls like Superman, you fail and are immediately dismissed from the company.
Gemini
After a poor run of defeats, your star sign is in danger of being relegated from the Zodiac Premier League. As a result, the Gemini board hire Dave
Bassett as a director of football to try and steady the ship. From now on, every decision you make has to get Bassett’s seal of approval first – or at least a thumbs-up from his assistant John Fashanu. Awooga!
Pisces
You shock colleagues at work by quitting your job to pursue a career in the NFL. Six months and several expensive plane trips across the USA later, your dream becomes a reality when you’re hired as an assistant stadium cleaner by the Tennessee Titans.
Capricorn
You write a hit novelty pop song called ‘There’s No Need For Noodles (So Let’s Have Risotto Instead)’ which features a rap from perennial Noel Edmonds collaborator Mr Blobby.
Virgo
DNA testing proves you’re the illegitimate child of the two male actors from ‘90s teen sitcom My Two Dads.
Aries
When a new poll puts Aries 10 points behind Taurus on a two-party preferred Zodiac, a leadership spill is called. You become a surprise front runner due to your hard-line stance on Pisces encroachment into late March and a hatred of noisy people on trains. Just when it looks like you might win, Kevin Rudd leaks to the press that you used to be a member of the Young Leo Party as a student and your popularity plummets.
Aquarius
You break the record for the world’s shortest horoscope. Congratulations! Doh, by writing ‘congratulations’ you now no longer have the shortest horoscope. Sorry about that.
Dear Crystal, I’m in desperate need of some legal and moral advice. I agreed to go on a fox hunt with some posh friends of mine and after a few hours roaming around fields on horseback, we finally came across the tracks of one of the vulpine pests. Before long, we were galloping at a fair old pace, and with the sound of the hounds barking away in my ear I have to admit I felt a thrill of excitement. That all changed a few minutes later. Suddenly, there was a great roaring and gnashing of teeth from the dogs, followed by a feeble cry of panic and pain. By the time we caught up with the dogs in a forest clearing, there was little left of our foxy prey. The sight of all that blood turned my stomach and made me question my actions – but worse was to come. As I turned over the carcass, I realised to my horror that it was the body of beloved children’s TV entertainer Basil Brush. His mutilated face was barely discernable under all the blood and gore, but I’d recognise that tiny tweed jacket and those pinhead eyes
anywhere. Amazingly, he was still breathing – short little gasps, so quiet yet so tragic. Then he whispered “bum, bum” and was gone. I feel terrible, and after all that Cecil the Lion business, I’m scared of being hounded by the press and social media like a filthy common dentist. What should I do? Yours Truly, Jack
Dear Jack, I can put your mind at ease. During the ‘80s, it was common knowledge that Brush had a string of high-profile affairs resulting in several unwanted pregnancies. The illegitimate foxes all bore Brush’s trademark tweed jacket and “bum bum!” catchphrase, and were released into the wild where their population has since thrived. In fact they’re now considered vermin. I happen to know the real Basil Brush has changed his womanising ways and now lives a quiet, sedate life with his third wife in Bath.
JOKES This Halloween, David Beckham will be bringing an embalmed corpse to the party. His wife. Bill, St Kilda I got so sick of the trick or treaters at Halloween that I turned the lights out and pretended I wasn’t in. Sod the ships. My lighthouse, my rules. James, Cornwall I’m not saying my wife is ugly, but we save a packet on the Halloween costume. David, Northbridge I’m going to a Halloween party in Essex and wanted to really scare the locals. So I’m going as a book. Will, London
Thanks to Ebola, the scariest costume might turn out to be that sexy nurse uniform. John, Port Douglas
When will fat girls learn that they don’t look sexy dressed as cats just because it’s Halloween? Clark, Manly
I’m going to terrify the local farm animals this Halloween and dress up as David Cameron. Luke, Fremantle
Joe Hart wanted to dress up as a ghost for Manchester City’s Halloween party but he hasn’t got any clean sheets. Sam, Sydney
It’s a shame that young people today no longer know why we celebrate Halloween. None of us would be here today if Jesus hadn’t assassinated that bloody giant pumpkin. Sheila, Brisbane You know you’re living in a posh area when this Halloween you’re washing quail eggs off your front door. Jane, Subiaco
My Halloween pumpkin has more teeth in it than the guests of Jeremy Kyle put together. Anne, Gold Coast I’ve got a great plan to avoi trick or treaters this year. I’m going to board up my windows and spray paint “paedo scum” on my front door. George, Newcastle
