Player Predictions
Rory Arnold - Australia The big back-rower has been superb all year for the Brumbies and was the Wallabies most consistent throughout the Rugby Championship. Superb in the line-out in attack and defence with other skills including the ability to disrupt opposition mauls. Faf de Klerk - South Africa de Klerk follows a distinguished line of springbok Number 9s who have led their country to success – Fourie du Preez in 2007 and Joost van der Westhuizen in 1995. This time the blond playmaker’s game has improved thanks to time playing in Europe with Sale Sharks. Owen Farrell - England When Owen Farrell is firing on all cylinders, England look awesome. But he often has an off game it can be very different. At Saracens he’s number 10, for England likely to be ay inside centre. A superb kicker who could be the ‘x-factor’ foe Eddie Jones. Tevita Li - New Zealand Tipped to be the tournament’s top try scorer, and at 20, with a big future, in the footsteps of another greta All Black, Julian Savea. New Zealand has long history of try-scoring wingers: Jonah Lomu and Bryan Habana, and Li has all the attributes to follow in their footsteps. Johnny Sexton - Ireland Seen as elder statesman thee days, Sexton is Ireland’s leader, who controls and manipulates their game. Great both on attack with try assists and in defence, where he organises the line, Sexton reads the game better than almost anyone. Amanaki Mafi - Japan A powerful presence on the field, despite some off-field issues that have clouded his selection. A damaging, running Number 8, with plenty of experience. He has to shine if Japan hope to progress. Jack Lam - Samoa Lam plays at Bristol as a flanker, so British fans will know his talents. Spent four
6
years at the Hurricanes in Super Rugby before heading for Europe, the New Zealand-born flanker will captain the side in Japan. Telusa Veainu - Tonga Voted players’ player of the year in Britain, where he plays for Leicester Tigers, are is a dangerous outside back, scoring 29 tries in 67 games for Leicester and is a threat with the ball in hand. One reason why many believe Tonga could cause an upset in Japan. Stuart Hogg - Scotland Fullback Hogg was the Six Nations Player of the Tournament in 2016 and 2017 and is one of the best in his position in the world today. The second highest try-scorer for any fullback in the world since his debut in 2012. If any back can find the try line, Hogg can. Emiliano Boffelli - Argentina The multi-talented Puma can play in a number of positions, at centre, wing or fullback. He could be the key to Argentina’s progress, depending on how coach Mario Ledesma uses him.
Betting Predictions New Zealand 6/4 England 9/2 South Africa 9/2 Ireland 10/1 Wales 12/1 Australia 20/1 France 33/1 Argentina 50/1 Scotland 80/1 Japan 300/1 Fiji 500/1

RUGBY WORLD CUP
JAPAN
Without doubt, the 2019 Rugby World Cup is one of the most open in decades, with questions being asked of the All Blacks as they got in search of another world crown. Japan’s hosting of the event, which began on September 20 and runs through to early November, will undoubtedly be a sporting triumph off the field, such is their attention to detail, but on it many are predicting some upsets. The host nation Cherry Blossoms caused an upset in 2015 when they beat the Springboks 34-32 – and interest in the game has grown steadily since. Coach Eddie Jones has moved to London, but the hosts will be no pushovers, a blueprint for rugby success has been paid down, and in true Japanese business-style, they won’t let up until success has been achieved. Mercurial captain Michael Leitch will lead the squad in their home World Cup, but coach Jamie Joseph has an inexperienced side, which will be their eventual undoing. Their form in the Pacific Nations Cup was good, victories over Fiji, Tonga and the USA showed they are ready - not quite ready for a semi-final spot, yet. As for the All Blacks, they are The best team at the tournament. But there are some concerns over the fitness of several players, Richie Mo’unga, Jack Goodhue, Brodie Retallick and Ryan Crotty. Going into the tournament, New Zealand had mixed success. They easily overcame Australia to retain the Bledisloe Cup, after an early loss in Perth. A narrow defeat of a good Argentina side was then followed by a draw with South Africa – which has got ‘experts’ asking plenty of questions. If they don’t retain the cup, then South Africa are the next best bet.
skipper Warren Whitely and utility back Damian Willemse. A Northern Hemisphere challenge could come from ant one of three nations: England, Wales or Ireland. Under Joe Schmidt, the Irish have looked the best best - until recently - when warm-up games showed up some defensive problems assistant coach Andy Farrell will have to address. Ireland has won six of its nine Tests this year and are huge contenders, are confident, but there will always be a niggling doubt over their historic ability to stay the distance in a world cup, which is why a semifinal is probably their best best this time around. Which brings us to Wales - another genuine contender. Six Nations success and a superb buildup to the tournament has seen the men in red emerge from the pack, even though warm-up games have exposed some weaknesses. Flyhalf Gareth Anscombe was ruled out of the tournament with a knee injury and coach Warren Gatland will be relying on Dan Biggar and Rhys Patchell to drive their attack. Then there is England. A disappointing Six Nations earlier this year has tempered their hopes. But they looked good in warm-up wins over Wales and Ireland - a 57-15 victory over the Irish very impressive. Eddie Jones has rebuilt England from the side of four years ago and their attacking prowess will take them to the last eight - it will then depend on who they meet if they are to progress further. The squad includes eight Saracens players after their recent European Cup win and Jones knows he needs to maintain some continuity if they are to win the Webb Ellis Trophy again. Scotland and France are the two other key northern nations, Italy might ruffle a few feathers but don’t look genuine contenders.
They are the only undefeated side in 2019 and on form alone, it could be their year.
Coach Gregor Townsend knows there’s still plenty of work to be done. The Scots won only one Six Nations game this year, although three warm-up victories in recent weeks has renewed their vigour.
South Africans won their first-ever Rugby Championship crown earlier this year with wins over the Wallabies and Argentina and a draw against the All Blacks – in New Zealand.
Experience counts in world cups and the Scots have 13 players in their squad who played in a World Cup before. Hooker Stuart McInally leads the side, but quarter-finals looks their best bet.
That form tells you there will be no slip-ups this time around and coach Rassie Erasmus’s squad boasts a lot of experience - something that will be needed once the group stages are over.
France are another side that has disappointed this year. They looked da shambles for much of the Six Nations, winning just two games as the old guard were dispensed for new blood. Still very much a team in transition, the French found some form against Italy but then lost to Scotland in their last hit-out, Their big weakness, say many, is an inability to close out a game - it will be their undoing.
Willie le Roux, Francois Louw, Francois Steyn, Eben Etzebeth and Tendai Mtawarira all have in excess of 50 caps - and mixed with some great new talent. it just may be Springboks year. Stormers star man Siya Kolisi has overcome injury to lead his country but there are no spots for former
8
Italy didn’t need to qualify this year but it is hard to see how they will climb out of the group stages. With skipper Sergio Parisse playing his fifth tournament, the Italians are still in the ‘also-ran’ category.
Argentina could emerge as a real surprise candidate for success at this world cup. The Pumas surprisingly made the semis in 2015 and there is real hope they could upset a few of the big guns again. Close defeats at the hands of New Zealand and South Africa show they are a threat, but can Mario Ledesma’s team repeat 2015? Their scrum has been identified as a major weakness and it could prove to be their downfall in 2019. Australia at 20/1 are long odds and there are reasons for that pessimism. A lack of consistency in 2019 has seen an up-and-down campaign. They beat New Zealand one week in Perth, then suffered a thumping loss to them next week. It was embarrassing to watch. The wallabies have some talent and with flanker David Pocock set to return they cannot be ruled out. They will qualify from the groups, but who they play in the quarters will decide their fate as England will probably await. Tonga are the best outside best for a shock knockout stage appearance. The Tongans will be competitive, but they will need to improve on a poor Pacific Nations Cup showing if they hope to make it out of a pool that includes England and Argentina, the two pre-tournament group favourites, plus France. The USA and Canada are still emerging nations and while they will show some strength in early games, they won’t see beyond the groups. Neither will Samoa, another Pacific Island nation whom love to throw the ball around. Watch out for Crusaders Super Rugby-winning prop Michael Alaalatoa in their side. Fiji have quality backs that could threaten any team but it is in the forwards where they lack consistency and up against Australia and Wales, it would a major seismic shock if they were to make through the pool stages. Canada had to rely on a repechage tournament to make it to Japan but their form is poor against all nations this year, having lost to the USA, Tonga and Fiji, so expect any miracles here. Russia, who made it through in 2011, qualified for the World Cup in bizarre fashion. Spain, Belgium and Romania were all found to have used ineligible players ion qualifying rounds. The Bears will be there for experience. As will Georgia, Uruguay and Namibia, the latter always capable of a minor upset, given their South African influence.
The predictions: Ireland, Japan New Zealand, South Africa England, Argentina Australia, Wales The semi-finals will depend on who is matched up against who, but on form, there are only two teams in with a shout of winning the 2019 tournament: New Zealand and South Africa.

Three-peat or another name on the Cup? New Zealand again, or maybe it’s the turn of a northern hemisphere team, or South Africa, the only undefeated side in 2019.

Pub life in Sydney is pretty exciting and since the recent opening of the Duke Of Clarence, the British inspired pubs scene is moving to new heights of popularity. The bar and hospitality scene in Sydney is quite unique but it seems British themed pubs are a big thing now, and we are bloody impressed with the offerings. A night or day of exploration of local watering holes would not be complete without the opportunity to indulge in the ambiance of some good old British pubs, accompanied with a pint of good Ol’ Speckled Hen or a cool crisp London Pride. Sydney, we are happy campers. But the publicans are not stopping there, oh no, no, no! With British pubs comes our favourite… The Traditional Sunday Roast. And we can vouch that these are now serious contenders for the best of the British. Sydney you are doing us expats proud and we’re here to support you in showcasing our typically boozy heritage. Now the next challenge is getting the Premier League to start playing live during the day and we’re all set. Blighty has nearly fully emigrated to Down Under. Read on for our list of the best British inspired pubs in Sydney that are expats didn’t want you to know about.

Aside from its old world charm The Lord Dudley also boasts of a modernistic restaurant. It’s chic ‘Garden Restaurant’ located on the lower floor of the pub is the latest offering to its loyal following. Horse Bazar, Melbourne
INTERVIEW: HORSE BAZAAR Can you give our readers, who might not already know, a little idea about what exactly Horse Bazaar is? Horse Bazaar is the only venue in Australia (I would say) that offers Izakaya style food, Japanese infused drink (cocktail classic and local craft beer as well) and live music venue with panoramic projections mapping, It is quirky without trying….lol It’s such a fantastic concept, was it born as that, or did it evolve into what it is? Horse Bazaar was owned by some creative people in town originally. We took over the business almost 6years ago and the opportunity came up naturally and it seemed so right. we are still so lucky to have such creative support and community around us to be what Horse Bazaar should be. What did you guys do before Horse Bazaar? Do you come from a cooking background, a music background or a bar/nightclub background? I (Taka) used to work for the original owner of Horse Bazaar in 2009 and started kitchen there. I was a DJ back in the day and I was at Horse Bazaar playing music when the owner was looking for someone who can set up and

work as a chef there. I took the opportunity and I started with serving panini and cheese board, etc with the owner’s request and no one was ordering anything then..... I suggested to the owners to let me try what I do which was Japanese food and slowly we built up the crowd. Fumi was working as a sake sommelier at the Japanese sake bar and he heard about Horse Bazaar doing some crazy things like “all you can eat & drink” for $25..... we met each other in Melbourne visiting each other’s bar. Also, Fumi used to be a vocalist for a punk band in Japan and released CDs and toured around Japan as well that music was a big part of our life. What’s the story behind the name? Hardware lane is on land formerly occupied by Kirk’s Horse Bazaar, a horse and livery trading centre built in 1840 by James Bowie Kirk and the original owners of Horse Bazaar used to live in one of the warehouses that used to be for Horses and they brought in some of the things from the warehouse when they first built the bar. I was born in the year of Horse and famous for Horses where I am from in Northern Japan that I definitely felt the strong connection. Not only do you do food, drinks and music. You also have a massage night! How did that come about? I came up with this idea when I was still working for the original owner starting to serve Japanese food for the first time at this venue. There wasn’t social media and not much
budget for the professional marketing team then that I thought I have to do something crazy but fun that people would hear about us and know that we started serving food. I was drinking with some of our friends and one of our friends were massage therapist that she was more than happy to come and do massage for our customers! Then I am like why not serving dumplings if they come to get a massage! Why not!? What dish would you recommend to someone coming to Horse Bazaar for the first time? You will be surprised how small our kitchen is... it was an office before setting up as a kitchen and the original owner was cleaver picking small Japanese people like us to work there... lol. we are so limited in what we can do but we try our best to home make everything. I think the most famous thing is JFC (Japanese Fried Chicken) that can be addictive and it is only $1 per piece...! Did the two of you expect the concept to be such a wild success in the city? we don’t know if I call it a success but we worked so hard and we didn’t give up and just believed that what we do is the right thing... The City of Melbourne changed dramatically past 5 years and we are really appreciated that we still got such love from everyone around us. Because Melbourne needs more of a live music venue that serves good drinks and decent food! Read the full interview at bbmlive.com

COMEDY Dear Crystal, For the last four years I’ve been having a highly illicit gay love affair with a very senior Liberal politician. I don’t want to get him into trouble so let’s just call him Shmony Shmabbott. Myself and Shmony first met in the Tool Shed on Oxford Street after I accidentally stumbled over him in the toilets (he was on his knees at the time so I didn’t see him). We hit it off right away, but it was only later that night when his rainbow wig fell off during our marathon buggery session that I realised who he was. In hindsight, I should have recognised him from the Tool Shed toilets – I knew I’d seen those budgie smugglers before – but it was only now that I twigged and he begged me to keep his secret safe. I wasn’t sure what to do, but he managed to persuade me with his silver tongue –

You win a competition to replace Dr Chris Brown as the star of TV show Bondi Vet. Unfortunately, your contract is cancelled after you perform surgery on a pet rabbit and it quickly becomes apparent that you have no medical training whatsoever. Convinced that World War III is imminent, you decide to become a “prepper” survivalist, and start stockpiling tins of food and camping equipment in the woods, even building a secret nuke-proof bunker in some nearby bushland in preparation for the coming Armageddon. When the bombs start to fall, you immediately bolt to your just-completed bunker and prepare to wait out the nuclear winter by living on a diet of beans and spam for the next 20 years. Unfortunately, you’re forced to adapt your plans somewhat when you discover Shane Warne is already in there. Apparently he’s been using the bunker as his own personal sex hideaway and has just said farewell to the latest anonymous leggy blonde he’s been knobbing after calling her an Uber. You spend the next two decades locked inside a small, damp cellar listening to him recount his sexual exploits, explain in detail about how he executed the ball of the century, and drone on about how popular he was with everyone in the I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here camp. After less than five minutes alone with him, you begin to envy the people whose faces melted off in the initial nuclear blast.

Once voted by the readers of Q Magazine as the “greatest front man of all time”, living legend Liam Gallagher will return to Australia and New Zealand in December as he celebrates the release of his massively anticipated second solo record, Why Me? Why Not? (out Sept 20). Shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Auckland will give Australasian audiences a chance to revel in tracks from Gallagher’s untouchable back catalogue as well as taking in newer cuts from his more recent output. Also on offer for Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane fans will be a stoic support set from independent Scottish singer-songwriter Gerry Cinnamon, in the country to spruik his debut album Erratic Cinematic. We all know the Oasis story by now: Manc lads discover the magic formula, pump out several anthems for a generation, release some of the highest selling (and most loved) albums of all time, define British guitar music, burn out in a blaze of glory... money. I joined a band because I love music.”
Now, as we hurtle towards 2020, it’s a sheer delight to hear the unmistakable voice of Liam Gallagher producing music just as timeless as he did at the peak of Britpop’s heyday. His debut solo album As You Were was released in October 2017, proving to be a critical and commercial success as it sold over 103,000 units in its first week and becoming the ninth fastest-selling debut of the decade in the UK. Calling it a “debut” may seem a bit strange when we’re talking about an artist responsible for some of the most momentous albums in the history of recorded music, but Gallagher’s solo career to date has very much been about starting again with renewed vitality. This attitude is on display through As It Were, a documentary released in June this year that documents the release of As You Were and the subsequent soul searching forced upon Gallagher in the wake of the break-up’s of Oasis, Beady Eye and several other personal relationships. “I’m not doing this to be more famous, I’m f**king famous enough – you know what I mean,” he announces early in the film. “I’m not doing it for the
CALVIN HARRIS HEADLINES FESTIVAL X
With this typically confident catchcry in mind, Gallagher started work on his new record with super-producers Greg Kurstin and Andrew Wyatt, eventually pumping out Why Me, Why Not? and its stomping singles ‘Shockwave’ and ‘The River’. Both replete with oodles of the swagger and bluster that made Liam Gallagher a household name, the tunes are perfect precursors a much-anticipated sophomore release, both going down a treat at his recent Glastonbury performance. In fact, if that show was anything to go by, audiences in Australia and New Zealand are in for something very special as Gallagher stacks his setlist with some of Oasis’ most well-known tunes and sends the likely lads and ladette’s into Supersonic ecstasy. have enough flex to prevent your ball snagging. Keep track of your important gear with a lanyard and zipper pocket, too. What’s the point in going on an adventure if you can’t look good while doing it?
The bottom line is simple. Only consider heavy-duty power banks if you’re going to be away from an outlet for a long time, and if you need a lot of juice. You’ll find you’ll probably only need a simple power bank for a few hours each day. However, needs will vary. Take a look at buying a reliable power bank that fits your needs.
Consider yourself a survival pro? An adventurer is only as impressive as the tools they use. The Leatherman tool kit is a must for all would-be survivalists. It is a keychain multi-tool designed with travel in mind. It’s just 2.9 inches long and weighs only 1.4 oz. Despite this tiny size, it contains eight different tools that are all fully compliant with current TSA regulations. That’s always good to know.
Mobile Wi-Fi It’s tempting to travel light, and we’ve done it and most likely, overdone it. If you’re always focusing on cutting your baggage down to size, you could be missing out on some genuinely useful gadgets that make your trip easier and ultimately, more enjoyable…

Phone Trackers
Don’t leave home without giving the people you love some form of reassurance. Who knows how long you may be away for? As a traveler, if you want the added security of your friends and family being able to track your journey, you should think about providing them with a dedicated phone tracker. With GPS phone tracking, any loved ones back home who are worried about your whereabouts can keep a close eye on where you are. It’s portable peace of mind. mSpy is a technologically sound and reliable GPS tracker to help you to achieve just that. It also has handy software for parents to monitor social media platforms, so you can spend more time focused on your trip.
Power Banks
The fact that power banks are travel-friendly goes hand in hand with portability. Whenever you need instant juice, you have it to hand, anywhere in the world. You’ll even find that some power banks are de-
It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but not everywhere has WiFi freely available. If you’re really going to adventure into the great unknown, there’s a good chance you’ll run short of a few hotspots. That’s why you should consider taking your own portable device like GlocalMe along for the ride. Thanks to this device, affordable Wi-Fi is yours for the taking, wherever we go. Wi-Fi might seem like a first-world commodity, but it’s incredibly useful while traveling. What if you get yourself lost, and need GPS to help you find your way back to civilization? Or maybe you want to track the swell? Whatever the reason, it’s handy to have with you and no doubt, something you’ll use on your trip.
Secure Backpacks
Taking a laptop or other valuable items with you? Keep them safe and secure, as you never know what could happen on the road. Lightweight, durable, and secure, the Venturesafe by Pacsafe is large enough for a 15-inch laptop and more besides. It’s perfect for long hikes, lengthy adventures and as a handy carry-on. All backpacks and bags are designed to keep thieves away to some extent, and the Venturesafe takes things to a new level of security. It’s fitted with steel webbing and imbedded wire to prevent theft. The 45-liter version is a particularly popular choice.

Can clothing be considered a gadget? Well, not really but in any case, grab yourself a pair of our good friend’s from HABU’ Boardies. These smart, reliable surf shorts are comfortable, breathable, and

Travel Adapters
Picking the right travel adapter can be a nightmare, and we all know it. There are around twelve different types of power sockets in common use around the world. Unsurprisingly, that’s not very useful for international travellers. Not all adapters are made equal, however. There are regional differences, portability, and production quality to think about. The trouble of not being able to charge your camera, smartphone, or laptop might be too much to bear. Therefore, look for a multi-faceted, reliable adapter - the S-kross travel adapter, for example, is always a good choice.
Sleeping Bags
You never know when you might need to pitch up for the night, or where. The Hanging sleeping bag is a mixture of sleeping bag and hammock which you can be easily carried on a wide variety of adventures. It packs down super-small, and can be easily popped out for instant assembly.
Coffee Makers
Thought you’d have to leave your morning coffee behind? Think again, as you can now take all the Joe you’d ever want on the go with you. Consider AeroPress for your portable coffee needs. The main AeroPress components (plunger, chamber, seal, and filter cap), scoop, and metal filter weigh 200g (7 ounces), and can easily fit into Outbreaker backpacks. If you are a serious coffee lover, the AeroPress Coffee Maker is the perfect travel gadget for you.

KÔLSCH
For your Fabric Presents album, you drew inspiration from flights. Will you be producing anything on the long flight to Australia?
that every time I’m home, there are so many new restaurants I haven’t tried.
I’m sure I will. I usually spend a fair amount of time on long haul flights producing new music. It’s the perfect place to focus, as usually I get interrupted all the time. No Phones are a blessing sometimes.
The modern-day touring DJs get very little downtime. How do you like to spend yours?
What 5 essential things do you pack when heading on tour? 1. Rolex GMT. I always time my sets when I play. It’s not a precise science, but I need to know how much time I have left. I make mental notes in long sets as to when to add tempo or energy to my sets. Basically I feel naked without a watch. The GMT function is also super useful on travels. 2. Isotopic tablets that dissolve in water. I tend to play long sets and drinking only water will just flush all Vitamins and salts out. These help with that. 3. Campfire Audio Atlas and Astell Kern Digital Walkman. This is my Headfi setup for traveling. I love to listen to Albums in full length. It’s become a real obsession. 4. Pantofola Doro Kölsch sneaker. I’m testing the prototype of my shoe collab these days. Seeing how they hold up to travel and festivals across the world. 5. Horizn ST pro trolley. My good friend Seth Troxler designed this. It’s the perfect DJ Trolley and fits everything I need. Are you visiting anywhere new this time on your trip to Australia? Sadly not. I really love Australia and I’ve spent a lot of time in amazing places, but this time I sadly can’t stay long, as I’m back to touring the weekend after Festival X. We recently saw your set at Sonus festival after DJ Koze & Sven Vath which was a wonderful journey. How do you differ your approaches to sets depending on the artists on the bill alongside you? I really try and avoid having other DJs on the lineup influence my sets. It’s obviously very hard, especially in such cases as Sven Vath, and Koze playing before you. Sometimes there are real fanboy moments for me as I play alongside heroes of mine. The real reason for my focus, is that I believe that the connection between the Artist and the audience is a very “holy” thing. My performance should only be a reflection of the energy from the audience, and that’s what I strive to achieve. With such a busy touring schedule, do you get much time to relax in your homeland, Denmark? Not much sadly. I really miss Copenhagen, my family and friends. It’s become weirdly exotic to visit my City these days. Only good thing is
I love to cook for friends. For me the real luxury these days, is to spend time with people I love. Those precious moments are too few. Also nothing beats a home cooked meal.

Broome
The Pearl of Western Australia Endlessly sunny and with natural wonders at every turn, Broome is one of Western Australia’s premier coastal towns and the perfect place to start any journey south along this spectacular coast. Located up at the northern end of the state, Broome is perhaps best known as the gateway to the Kimberly Region but is has much more besides. Make a pit stop here as part of a hop on hop off coach journey or spend longer exploring everything the town and its surroundings have to offer. No visit to Broome is complete without a trip to Cable beach, a stunningly beautiful 22km stretch of sand and endless skies, and one of the best places to watch the sun set in a red and orange blaze of colour. Riding out at dusk on a camel is an experience not to miss. Another natural wonder is the Staircase to the Moon. This otherworldly sight occurs during March to October when the full moon rises over exposed mud flats at Roebuck Bay, creating an illusion which makes the land look like a rising staircase reaching all the way to the moon. There is nowhere else on earth where you’ll find such a spectacle. Broome has a long pearling history dating back to the late 1880’s, which is still a huge industry today. Divers came here in their droves, particularly from Japan, to do the often dangerous job of diving for pearls. The fascinating Japanese cemetery in town is the final resting place of 919 divers who died, and their colourful beach rock headstones are a testament to their bravery. The annual Shinju Matsuri (meaning “festival of the pearl” in Japanese) festival celebrates the town’s pearling identity and commemorates the lost divers. Go pearl shopping in ChinaTown and pick up a bargain – the Sunday markets in Johnny Chi Lane are a must do. Lastly, if you’re just in need of a little head space, check out the Buddha Sanctuary over at Cable Beach. This peaceful place is home to a 3 metre high crystal Buddha statue and the perfect spot for meditation and yoga. Free to enter and open 7 days a week, head here for yoga classes, calm thoughts and a friendly welcome.

Finding Accommodation on Fraser Island
Fraser Island Lake McKenzie
Lake McKenzie (Aboriginal name Lake Boorangoora) is K’gari’s most popular and beautiful lake and is famous for being sacred place for indigenous people. Interestingly, the crystal clear waters were never swam in to preserve the purity of drinking water. The lake often mirrors the changing colours of the sky during sunrise and sunsets and its pristine white sand contrasting against the water is the perfect place for tranquil relaxation.
Central Station Rainforest
Wanggoolba Creek runs through the lush Central Station Rainforest inviting you to see the serene diversity of Fraser Island. This was a place for indigenous women to give birth and it sincerely requested that visitors treat it with respect. A peering evergreen canopy begs the question how such a diverse and thriving rainforest can gain enough nutrients to flourish on a bed of sand.
75-Mile Beach
With an unworldly array of colours and incredible stories, this is the setting for Fraser Island 4WD Tours! An expansive stretch of continuous 4WD beaches in Australia: Teewah, Rainbow and Fraser Island’s 75-Mile Beach are staggering in so many ways. Lining the Great Pacific Ocean, some of the most ancient coastal sand dune formations in the world protect these shores.
Champagne Pools
This is where tropical fish dance in the flotsam of breathtaking natural rock pools and are carried to their home by the frothing waves of the Pacific Ocean. The Champagne Pools are soundly protected from the sea’s immense currents making it a dream to enjoy K’gari’s bubbling salt-water Jacuzzi as the waves gently foam over the rocks.
Eli Creek
The K’gari’s underground reservoir explodes into life with the endless flow of purified water forming the incredible Eli Creek. This ever-flowing creek is the second largest on Fraser Island. Make sure you don’t miss out on the chance to take a dip and drift downstream - a perfect chance to reflect on your Australian adventures thus far.
The Maheno Shipwreck
In 1936, the iconic Maheno Shipwreck was laid to rest on K’gari’s shoreline when it was struck by an off-season cyclone. From its glory days as a luxury cruise liner to being used as target practice for the air force in WW2 it holds many fascinating stories. And as time goes by this iconic mass is slowly sinking beneath the sand, soon to be gone forever – it is worth a stop.
Indian Head
This world class viewing point was named Indian Head by Captain Cook in 1770, (Aboriginal name Tukkee) has so much to tell and offer. With striking contrasts to its mesmerising views and amazing sightings of Sharks, Turtles and Manta Rays, the 360-degree headland has many stories to share, equally as incredible as the scenery.

Surrounding Areas of Fraser Island Most commonly, on your east coast adventure tours you will likely arrive in either Hervey Bay or Rainbow Beach the day/ evening before embarking on your Fraser Island Tours. The most popular options for accommodation in Hervey Bay and accommodation in Rainbow Beach are Hostels. This is a great way to meet those who are also taking up tours on Fraser Island and is also where Fraser Island Tour Guides will come to give you a briefing of your adventure. Transport Tips to Fraser Island
The best ways to get to Fraser Island whilst travelling the East Coast of Australia depends on your budget and the accommodation types you are after. One option which can eliminate much hassle is the Hop on Hop off service with Greyhound; they take you to all the main destinations, and of course Fraser Island has a solid place on that list. However, this will be an option between Hervey Bay and Rainbow Beach to be dropped off and from there the Fraser Island Tours will take you across to the Island. You may decide to depart from Brisbane but the same Greyhound hop on hop off tour deals apply, as well as being transported to the Island with tour companies. Alternatively, you may opt to rent a campervan on the East Coast Australia or a car which is a fantastic choice if you are travelling in a group as you can split costs and even save money on accommodation by camping. Although it is common that most who rent a campervan still choose hostel accomodation so they don’t miss out on the awesome social aspect of partying and meeting other travellers. You may even chose tour companies which transport you up the coast taking you through the mainland attraction before taking you onto Fraser Island. In this case accommodation deals are usually sorted directly through the company and transport is taken care of.
Choosing the Best Fraser Island Tours
The main differences between tours on Fraser Island is the duration of stay and the location you depart from to get to the Island - Brisbane, Hervey Bay, Rainbow Beach. Within the basic itineraries 4WD tours on Fraser Island is usually the main “go too”. But with all the incredible beaches on Fraser Island, a rainforest and other world class attraction, tours vary between what can be possibly experienced within the time frame you are looking to stay. Fraser Island is most definitely amongst the greatest places to travel in Australia so we strongly recommend you book yourself in for the full experience.
